Karlton379's First Podium Finish! (1lb Full Combat Shuffle Drive Robot)
Просмотров 5 тыс.8 месяцев назад
This is the story of Karlton379, my first 1lb full combat robot, and its first event March Mayhem 2024. I was inspired to enter the hobby by @alexsalchemy and his robot Cheesecake!
"We've podiumed every event we've been to" Whereas I have more events where my 4 bots go 1-8 than I have podiums 😭
why are all those robot battles copy-pasted? doesn't anyone have any creativity? i mean why 3 min matches, why always same lame arena? how about making it UNIQUE, if i had money, i'd make best robot battles ever. make arena bigger, add arena hazards so that control bots would have a chance aswell. those pins are so boring and lame, make some arena hazards so control bots can push others into those. this would also mean that if you don't want to get stuck in there, you need some self righting or unstuck mechanism. add 2 house bots, not just some boring ones, but someting like in robot wars, unique and different and with lot of control, so if 2 bots get stuck, house bots can sepearate them. when it comes to championships, qualification matches could remain 3 mins, but then make matches 5 mins in the elimination rounds and in championship itself, remove time limit completely, it would be last bot standing. only way to win, is when other bot stops moving completely. this would also add another factor -- batteries! so people would have to think about conserving the battery and not always go all out or have bigger batteries. arena hazards should be actual hazards, not just some toys. in a way that they can actually damage bots. one could be a blowtorch that can set bots on fire, then another thing could be a launch-pad that throws bots if they are on it for longer than 3 seconds or get pushed there by other bot (so control bots can use it for their advantage). could also have a water pit, it would have small reverse edge on it, so it's harder to get into it, but easy to get out. this would also mean that builders would have to consider water proofing their bots in case they fall into it. it wouldn't have to be deep, maybe like 5cm max. they could literally lower the arean from that point and add edges and smooth ramp coming out from the pit. just make it INTERESTING, don't copy paste from all the others.
Those are great ideas! These events are hosted by volunteers so I am just thankful to have a place to compete. You may be surprised to hear this, but robots like mine can’t run full force for more than 3 minutes.
I love how the twins aren’t supporting their mom just playing btd6 😂
Good stuff, I always enjoy the fairyweights
That is 1 pound ant but with the +25%weight because of shuffling Sorry I was mistaken
This is a fairy weight with a 50% shuffle bonus. She weighs 225 grams.
@@GotterRoboticsoh yah it says fairy weight my bad
Finally a walker that’s a horizontal spinner 👌👌
Karlton looks like Atom94 with a shuffle drive system
Thumbelina V2 YAY
Great fight against HOF antweight MS. When will Karlton go to GSCRL in NJ?
Thanks! It would be awesome to attend a big GSCRL tournament sometime. We live in Charleston SC so it would be an 11hr drive.
@GotterRobotics we understand, GSCRL provide hotel blocks for out-of-town competitors. Remy, Rachel and Mudskipper made the trip two years straight.
awesome bots! have you tried using mixes to have fw/bw on one stick and lef/right on the other stick? maybe that can be more instuitive, fsi6s are quite hard for smaller hands to contol but they were doing great nonetheless!
Thanks! They have transitioned to robots with active weapons now, but that could have been a good idea!
@@GotterRobotics nice to hear they got an upgrade! but yes, unless you put the weapon on a switch with a 6ch reveiver it's not possible to have dual stick drive, maybe they can try to use index+thumb instead on thumb only for the drive, like drone racers do. I host loan bots sportmans fairy tournaments and i often see the issue of not being able to move the stick in a straight line just because of how big the radio is, i watched the newer video and they already improved tho!
You must be happy your wife convinced you to not tap in the first fight! Glad to see more karlton content
Yes I am! That would have been a mistake for sure!
Whenever the spring SWORD gets announced, yall should come, it’s a very nice event
Where is that located?
Also all my bots got nerfed :)
@@GotterRoboticsPennsylvania, it’s either in Williamsport or Bloomsburgh, 1 is at the local YMCA. 1 is at a college, I think it’s gonna be the college for springs one
you should push with your back not the front
Also are you making another bot? (cuz im pertty sure your profile pic is different...)
My videos are really behind… that is the version of Karlton379 I designed after getting thrashed by mudskipper. It will be unveiled on the next video
@@GotterRobotics cant wait to see it
YAY MORE GOTTER!!!!!!
We are flattered!
Great video! Is there a model or open source design for the shufflers you use?
I designed my shuffle drive from the compliant drive on this post absolutechaosrobotics.wordpress.com/2023/08/11/experimentation-in-shufflers/
Thanks!
@@YH-du3jc My drive has been very reliable, but it isn't the most efficient. I believe the pin style drive yields more speed and pushing power. Though I haven't tested this in person.
are either of these robots actually one pound?
No. In these tournaments they both had a 50% weight bonus (up to a pound and a half) for not having wheeled/tracked drive systems.
Whats the plan for next year with the shuffler bonuses changing
@@forceofwillgaming8475 despite the nerf, I plan to stick with shuffle drive. I have found our complaint shuffle drive to be very reliable.
My friends friend made goal line you did a good job with its weaknesses and fighting it!
@@Boltywolf02 thanks! He is a great bot builder!
@ indeed
Hearing you micromanage those kids while they were driving was pretty painful. Let the kids drive their own bots dude
Great job 👏
Thanks! We are gearing up for the TNRL finals Dec 14th. It will be our last competition at 680grams.
Karlton is insane
Thanks! I’m working on a new version of him for the new 1.25x weight bonus.
@@GotterRobotics isn’t it much wider. I think I saw CAD for it on Discord
@willfranken8293 yes, that version is still 680 grams though. It is definitely going to be lower from now on. The ground game helps a lot!
I CANT GET ENOUGH OF THIS!!!!!!! ITS SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!! (also in the future you should have it to where you can add active weapons to Split Chaos)
@@KingPieGamez Thanks! More Gotter Robotics to come! We do give Split Chaos an active weapon, but maybe not in the way you think 🤔
@@GotterRobotics 🤔
You look so much like a younger Sergei Kovalev, the boxer.
That was electric yall are the reason I'm getting into combat robotics
Welcome to the sport!
That arena is kind of on the small size I think.
@@Onisanofwhan it is what they have…
That thing is a beast. If you keep building shufflers like that, the weight bonus won't be there for long anymore.
Honestly, I'm kind of ready for that weight bonus to get nerfed.
@Onisanofwhan I’m willing to bet all the shufflers will disappear too. That will be boring… everything will be standard vert meta
When fighting robots my mindset is, "Expect the worst, perform your best." (loved the video, cant wait to see the improvements for Turtle Dozer)
That is a good mentality!
Eli’s driving is getting pretty good.
Thanks! He has been doing a great job!
Some good fights!
We had a blast at this event!
I love high tipspeed weapons, it would be cool to see if Vector could match up, love the vid!
4700kv is insanely scary. What's the tip speed on that?
The pulleys reduce the rpm’s by half, not sure on the tip speed
@@GotterRobotics Oh i see. Does that help you getting more torque to spin up with?
@@laurendemsky-xc6tt To be honest it was just the way pulleys I used worked out. 15T on the motor side and 30T on the weapon side. It does mean that I have to spin my motor faster to reach an equivalent tip speed compared to a direct drive weapon.
Awesome! Karlton is probably one of the strongest vertical spinners I’ve seen.
Good fights!
Nice video
I like how you build shuffler mechanisms. Do you have any tips for a new builder to the sport? I’m currently maximizing the potential of a viper lifter kit.
Thanks! I like studying bots and finding ways to exploit weaknesses. How much spare weight do you have? A titanium wedge configuration seems like a good mod for a viper kit imo
@@GotterRobotics I have a uhmw wedge and forks as my basic configuration, but a titanium wedge is actually something that I might do. Thanks!😀
I have like 30 ish grams of spare weight though.
I think it's really cool to see so many young builders. Huge props to the parents that continuously support their child's passions, and creativity. These life long memories are thanks to you.
Thanks! It is a lot of work, but worth it! It could set them up for a great career too!
Age range? Can a 70 year old do this?
Yes! All ages are welcome!
Very interesting to see another flexible shuffler implementation in the wild!
All of my designs feature compliant shufflers right now.
Nice fights. I would like to compete at MARCO someday. Either In the full Antweight weight class or Beetleweight Sportsman weight class.
Maybe we will see you there one day! I will say, we are 9hrs away from Baltimore.
Great job guys personally I am working on my first bot that will be a grabber but not a lifter kinda like og lock jaw before it got the vertical spinner
Good luck! It is a very fun hobby!
As Khaotic robotics has said “Yeah, those things are really durable”
They got more durable after this. I came up with a new "anti-thing" method.
Can you make a tower vert shuffler bot next, please 🙏 (another great video👍)
Interesting, do you have any images that are similar?
@@GotterRobotics Sadly, I do not have any images of "shuffler drive, tower verts" but, a good representation of a "Tower Vert" would be "Deep Six" from Battlebots.
Great video!!! Greetings from Mexico.
Greetings from South Carolina, USA!
I like your and the robots are all shuffle drive so I will call you the shuffle drive team
I started out by building a shuffle drive mechanism. After that I started building robots! LOL
Congratulations! and no shame in losing to Combustion that thing is scary
It was a very good fairy!
Ok the last one needed to be unstuck that shouldn’t be fight ended
Rules were set at the beginning of the day. "NO unsticks". His weapon was broken though, so it would have probably still gone our way.
Congrats on a good run and beating Alex (teammate who runs the white horizontal) and you did good against Lars and combustion(also teammate of mine) y’all had a good run and can tell she’s learning more, I think as time goes on and the more she learns to drive and control the bot. I think thumbelina can do really good in the future. Keep up the good work
I am really happy with the design. The fairy class is so fun!
@@GotterRobotics looks like a fun time, it’s interesting seeing a shuffler fairy cuz it’s sooo much bigger than the average fairy
@@chriscapps206 This one if full of air with very thin tpu
This is really cool. I have an idea to convert my Viper kit into a shuffler and put a deep bar on the tail spinner add on
this is so sweet
Thanks!
with such an normal name such as karlton he's terrifying
LOL, Yep!
