Kyrie added rhythm to the Mikan Drill. Its like he dances when he's breaking down his defenders. Plus I learned how to handle the ball much better by putting the basketball in a plastic bag and dribbling it which he spoke about one time. He got the idea from Baron Davis who is also one of my favorite Point Guards.
Wearing gloves while dribbling gives u a similar feel
@@austinbuckets21 like snow gloves? Leather gloves? Tight stretchy surgical gloves? Regular cotton gloves?
@@johnhopkins7039 I prefer snow gloves
@@johnhopkins7039 plastic wud be best
Saw my boys practicing with the plastic bag over the ball a couple days ago. 🔥
This drill is so helpful, had a game today and used the inside foot inside hand and it worked perfectly, muscle memory!
Great drill with lots of reps. Teaches kids a variety of ways to finish at the rim.
this is good but u goin need a neck brace when u done lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bro fr my neck always hurt when doing this drill
no pain no gain lmao
I thought I was the only one lol
DukieJr you’ll end up training your lookups instead of your layups
Thanks Coach, thanks RJ!
Nice. I recommend trying a bunch of spin variations with both hands. Try as many combinations aiming outside the box. There are so many spots you can aim for about 1-2 feet above the box that'll go in with the right touch.
Did this and it instantly helped my finishing, thanks heaps coach
This is an insanely important drill Knew a guy who went from being a pure jump shooter got obsessed with the drill became the best finisher in the state ppg went from 17 to 40 just because he had a two pronged attack. Btw. Guy couldn't dunk either and was just an insane finisher hanging in the air.
master cobra who was he
what's his name?
State his name or this may be false
Cool story bro
@Mohamed Saad if you become a great finisher and have a great jump shot it's very possible not to mention the foul shots that add up when driving to the basket
Great drill coach thanks!!
Great drills
Great clip
Amazing video.
Kyrie does this for fun.
But what is the most important is that you keep the ball on the shooluur level 2:30
Gratitude 🙏🙏
thank you
Youth coach here. Teaching this to my kids. Thx Coach.
Pistol Pete's friend taught me this when I was a kid. Had me doing all type of wild shit.
I'm trying to mix athletic finishing, great shooting and great defending so I can be a good all around player
Arc Angel same
Effective 💯💯💯
Homie was tired as hell 😂😂😂😂😂 but dope work out
butter finger 3/10 last game, gonna do this drill and push my FG% up!
We aint gon talk about that miraculous shine on the floor? Couldn't even concentrate on what you were saying.
Kareem has also used this drill. Would love to know what other players have used it.
Never tried this many variations of it
That is why I believe George Mikan should be in the mt rushmore of basketball , His drill style paved way
THis is great
What r u doing over here
Is this at Bryant?
I will be able to finish in the paint after I perfect all these moves I will.
Well, did you?
Did you ?
Nah didn’t, and I’m still ass at ball. I do track now and I’m pretty good at that tho so 🤷🏾♂️
6:00 that is the one that I struggle with the most.
I can never get it no matter how hard i try and how many reps I do
Kxryyツ learn how to spin the ball off the backboard and try
It’s not that hard
Try spinning the ball with your pinky going towards the rim
Dude keep the ball high damn
Ur saying he keeps it high or he should?
@@phonymontana4254 He should
yeah i kept cringing because he was bringing it low every time
Thank! Btw what is inside and outside? I'm a little confused
Step in with your left foot but finish with your right hand and for the other step in wit your right foot but finish with left hand
Inside is foot/hand closer to the rim
He messed up the 1st try on 2nd variation but that's dope!
can someone explain the hads and foots not with outside and inside maybe like with right and left
Inside hand/foot is closest to the basket. Outside hand/foot is furtherest from the basket
is this my middle school? tf lol where is this recorded? Indiana?
Fondamentaux
Kyrie taught me everything i know. And thanks to him i failed Science. 👍
WAIT IS THIS GYM IN MAGNOLIA
Andy Dago yep
No, Olathe, Kansas
What video is this
me here figuring out how to make my brain use also the other leg for jumping 😀
Anyone else here from that tweet?
Is it just me or is that guy bringing the ball down to his waist when the coach says "keep the ball high"? I get that this is more Kyrie than Mikan (ie, for guards, forwards) but a big who brings the ball that low is asking for trouble.
player has the foorwork down, but, going against the drill, bringing the ball down too low
Love the mikan drill, player messed up on outside foot, inside hand though 😁
Variations are great - but a very high % of players can’t do a correct simple Milan drill. Fundies first
*mikan
this is so confusing!! inside outside faaak!
Inside hand/foot is closest to the basket. Outside hand/foot is furtherest from the basket
dukezc If that’s true, can you explain 4:25?
Jay T my comment was 2 yrs ago and im still confused
darwaka88 lol , I am with you brother
yea becouse this "coach" says "outside foot" and what he means is - outside foot is the one you will jump from not the one which goes up
First off, not a lot of people can jump off one foot, both sides. Kyrie and Kobe could use both sides. The Goat MJ too.
Everybody nowdays can lol. Are u disabled?
Equally well you tard. You ever see Zach Randolph or Julius Randle jump off their off leg and or finish with their right hand?
@@xart23x lol true it’s tuff to master unless you very athletic
Literally figured this shit out without the video
Is that Rj Barrett
Nope. But his name is RJ Jarrett.
excellent video. hes built well. great pro physique on that player..
No. That’s the other RJ in the world!
Did he say goofy foot like he is trying to coin that term?
He dont like to keep the ball up high lol
He's definitely not keeping the ball high
Everyone stamping a pro’s name on a drill that people normally do. Why???? Just show the drill. Why put a pro’s name on it as if they made the drill?
This was influenced by a video with USA Basketball where Kyrie Irving explains how he practices finishing to one of the coaches. There is an article on our website about this.
Its historically known as that. So when people say mikan everyone knows
Lost art of the game ask some of these coaches who George Mikan is?
10% these type of drills, 90% game play (1v1, 3v3, 5v5) at the park/pick up ball/aau ball/summer league/etc. Does anyone really think this type of drill is why Kyrie is one of the best layup finishers of all time? NO. He played millions of games (1v1, 3v3, 5v5) vs defense, got real time reps vs D, and the creativity emerges.
These drills are good tho...but that's real. U have to put in the work at game speed against defense to in order to get better. I agree with you on that one... players need to understand that
This sucks
