Im glad that this video is just about the fundementals, no crazy drills that dont translate to playing basketball.Triple threat is the only way a ball player gets open against good ball players. He has logic to what he is teaching, which most trainers don't have.
You do a good job instructing kids too. I remember seeing Steve Nash and Manu always doing the load/plyo step. Now kids get all the gems dropped on them.
These are fundamets that create every play in the game. And yes, the coach did switch the pivot and that's a travel, but every single kid are traveling in euro standards because they making a first step with a pivot leg without bouncing the ball first. But in the NBA that's not the rule.
Lmao...Luke I was thinking the same thing when I saw this. 50yrs young & now I'm bout to go to work on these youngins at my 35 & up league. They won't be ready for this smoke. Thanks EGTBBALL!
The coach changes his pivot foot when he goes right from the left side. He pivots on his left foot when he is "jab-stepping" but then steps across the defender with his left foot first.
That’s what I saw also. You need to create a half dribble before the foot comes up. Meaning one low quick set up dribble into the move. He’s teaching nba moves. That’s good in the league
Coach- So it’s not a travel until that foot hits the ground? You’re allowed to jab with right, crossover with left foot as long as you dribble before that foot lands?
I bought into EGT mainly because of this video. I cannot find the Jab series to go with it which Coach Drew mentions. The support email isn't responding to My query and follow up. I think you guys make good content and this one specifically is skill used in tryout in elite junior level in Australia. Please help me with locate the complete series.
Great stuff coach! But one question. Isn't that travel? When you attack middle? Because your lifting your pivot foot before the ball bounces the floor, right?
@@hhahahhahaaic2086 I understand that is the way it suppose to be, but I saw the pivot moving first and then the ball hits the floor. In Europe refs call travel for sure.
Fck....coach i just realized now that u have taught me so many things And i might cry for this...thank u so much coach...and im sorry if my english is bad...
Is this replacing the idea that moving the ball with the jab will sell that u r driving and shift the player? I know ball protection is very important but a great defender might c that u not fully selling the drive and know that u r waiting for him to shift
he told that one kid not to jab. He didn't want them showing the ball. They needed to be able to get by the defender without the jab, so that when they did jab and show the ball, it was even more effective.
No hate. Just looking for the explanation. The first move, is that a travel? The pivot foot lifts for the explosive part of the move before the ball is released... if the explanation is that it's just too quick to see full speed or that it's just too smooth then I feel it, but just looking to learn.
@@easymoneysniper697 really man? I'm based in Europe so maybe it's different (assuming this is a USA rule book thing) I'm gonna do some research on it, thanks for the response bro
Daniel Girvan I’m in Asia bro and they call it from time to time but you can get away with it. also it’s a FIBA rule so it’s official but people have different perspectives on it.
you're right, he's traveling in the example. ideally when u do the move fullspeed you put the ball down faster, and the lifting of the pivot foot comes closer to the point in time at which you release the ball from your hand. Some older-school refs like calling this a travel and will be anal about it to the point where you can't even do this move. Other reffs will give the player the benefit of the doubt. In practice usually this move is *technically* a travel, but it's close enough to not being a travel that it's actually an effective move.
I really appreciate Coach Drew, he's really a great teacher but at minute 1:57, 2:46, 5:06 and 6:40 it's no more Basketball. In Basketball there's no chance to change pivot foot. If I jab with the right foot, no way to move the left foot before ball's out of my hands, and in these cases ball has been dribbled long time after pivot foot has been changed.
"Lot's of reps" is a bad idea at the beginning. Do few, good quality reps. These kids were going way too fast and not implementing what you just took the time to show them. Walk them through how to do the move a couple times, and once they have the motor skills down, they'll be able to build off of them
I think he may be doing it with heavy reps simply because he’s got a lot of kids to train these moves to and if they’re all doing it quick he can catch what they’re doing wrong and what they may or may not be rushing to get “lots of reps” in. Makes it a lot easier to catch the mistakes
you can not change your pivot foot when you jab step then as you rip thru the ball needs to bouncing before you lift your pivot foot. otherwise its a travel.
The fist move is a travel! You can’t move your pivot foot with the ball in the hand! Right foot can move, left foot is the pivot… lifting that left foot everytime.

I disagree because he starts his dribble before lifting his pivot foot
