Amol Palekar was the only pathbreaker because he represented emotions of every common man of India and not behaved or chose roles which were larger than life.
Agree. But he has no appeal today. The larger than life roles of 70s/80s still have repeat value.

Amol Palekar movies are the bright part of my youthful days....I still enjoy watching his movies....especially Baton Baton me, Rajnigandha, Choti si Baat....his natural style of acting and the soft texture of his voice was very calming.

I had met Amol Palekar when he used to work for Bank of India, Bombay main branch & was shooting for his first film. I met him thro' his friend late Suhas Kulkarni, an international table tennis player & a close friend of mine as well as both of us were also working in the same office as direct recruit Bank officers. Amol's wife was also also found of table tennis & they would sometimes come to watch Suhas's matches. Both Amol & his wife were very down to earth persons.
I don't think it was ego. It was just self-respect and propriety.
Those golden days will be never come back . Watching him on black & white TV in neighborhood !

Sir,even today,i watch your films ' Golmal ',Chitchor' with the same enthusiasm as i used to watch these films,way back in the 80's ! Your image of a next door boy,in these films appeals to me ! The dialouges seem so real that for sometime we don't really feel that we are watching a movie !

Till early 90s, Half of my life was spent in Amber Oscar and Minor (three screen theater) before it got converted to Shopper's stop. Oscar catered Hollywood and Amber to Bollywood .Minor was tiny and mostly showed what was then called parallel/art cinema. We (family) used to watch 6 to 9 show and then have dinner in Radhakrishna Restaurant. Lot of childhood memories attached to the theater. If you happen to visit Shoppers stop do stop and look above you can still see the screen and the balcony/dress circle sitting area.
I remember watching Chota Chetan and Beautiful People at those theaters back in 80s. Good times!
He is one of my favorite actors. I never feel bored or sleepy watching his movies, although his movies are a bit on the slower side. I feel like I am watching myself on the screen or rather I am there in the movie then how can I ever feel bored.
There is another actor, Farooq Shaike, who I like to watch, who is in the mould of Amol Palekar.
They were really good times, with such good homely looking actors around.
This performer has been a delight to watch across his performances. If one feels sad over a day you need to watch him act and you see a character swaying all challenges laughing.

Amol sahib is CONFUSED. At 4:50 he is talking about Chitchor and mentions that Basuji cast Vidya Sinha in the movie. Vidya Sinha was not in Chitchor but in Rajnigandha and Choti Si Baat. In chitchor he introduced Zarina Wahab.
