Amol Palekar was and is my favorite actor of all times; though I was die hard fan of Amitabh Bachchan, I always had AB as my 2nd preference for 70s and 80s movies. Amol Palekar was the most versatile actor of his time without doubt, and I have collection of DVD's of his movies.

Just pick any movie of his. Look at the story, direction, dialogues and yes, of course the acting of amol palekar! Everything about him and his movies have always been perfect!
Doesn't matter whether you are a small boy, a teenager, a bachelor, a married man or an old, withered man, you will always feel connected when watching an amol palekar movie. You will be able to relate yourself in his movies, at least at some point... Like oh yes, this is how I am or I used to be!
I strongly believe an actor who's able to bring this 'relateness' factor with his/her audience becomes an instant success overnight!

In one of his interviews he said that he has always liked to experiment with new, innovative roles and didn't like to be type-casted. He said he could easily cash on the movies like golmaal and choti si baat, but he didn't want to get associated with one kind of character... This shows the calibre of this great actor! He loved his profession more than fame.
Amol palekar and utpal dutt have always been a great pair in any film. Both an institution of acting in themselves. I am sure they must have had a deep sense of respect and camaraderie for each other!

I cannot understand why such a great actor who made unparalleled movies is not acknowledged the same way other Heroes are. His movies are the face of the common man, his face is the face of the public feelings that were reflected for the times.
Because majority of the audience which belongs to the group of teenage to young couples in India love heroes who in initial life are getting humiliated and later come out strong and rebellious against the villains. That's the reason most of the heroes and movies from South India are made like that and become blockbuster.....
