Before this time period, it was widely attested that the role of newscaster was widely respected for transparency and impartiality. After the large scale commercialization of news in a 24 hour news format and tv channels being solely dedicated to news, open speculation and bias became more accepted in news and the previous reputation the newscaster held eventually died out. While it's misleading to say this is how freedom died, it was how news became intentionally polarized and biased.
