- It's a question brought up every year when shiny new PC parts come through the pipeline: "Should I buy a prebuilt PC or should I build my own?" Once upon a time, the answer was easy! Nowadays, however, prebuilt PC manufacturers have stepped up their game, offering very powerful, and very beautiful PC builds for only a bit more of your money and almost none of your time. With the rise of global chip supply shortages in the last couple of years, it's made that decision even tougher.
In this episode, Seth Macy helps you decide which is right for you. Is building a PC yourself a smarter option that also gives you the most bang for your buck? Or is buying a prebuilt PC the way to go, avoiding supply shortage and troubleshooting headaches along the way? Whichever route you choose, you're bound to reap the benefits of PC gaming.

01:05 - The Pros of Building Your Own
05:05 - Just Buy One, It's Okay!

If you wanna split the difference, see if there's a pc hardware store in your area where you can hand pick and price match all the components you want and they'll put it together for you for an extra $100-150. Saves you the hassle and if anything goes wrong you can bring it straight to them instead of having to deal with shipping.
If you're deciding on whether to go prebuilt or build your own gaming PC, tell us about your experiences. Are you still holding out for those high end parts to show up on shelves, or have you decided you're done waiting and going with a prebuilt? Let us know in the comments!
You forgot to pin this lol
They don’t need too
In these times the best option is to buy a used one built by someone who knew what they were doing. Its a long shot, but the best option if you can find one.
Any tips on what to look out for?
When one has the time to do it, build it. When one doesn't have the time, pre-built is a valid solution.
Also just make sure you know what you're looking for as apart of what cpu and gpu you want amongst other things in pre-built.
oh thank you wise one
And currently pre built is the cheapest option
Building is far better. You can pick the parts you want and fit your budget. Pre-built if you want hassle free. It costs more but from experience it pays off with the warranty.
Sometimes cheaper too.
@@mikem2253 how can it be cheaper when not only parts but also service charge like assembling, company brand, after sale service which last for few years etc?
@@dennisthemenace4288 No scalper price for gpu.
@@mikem2253 i mean in usual scenario.
Once you experience pc gaming at its finest, it’s hard to go back to consoles.
Only if you’re a healthy individual. My back hurts sitting in a gaming chair but a couch and console is perfect for me
The gatekeepers always come out on videos like this. You can tell how much someone fakes their knowledge when they put down videos from non-pc tech channels about pc building. He didn't even say anything wrong and yall are out here wildin

Gatekeepers 😂 y’all weird
They're the worst, especially when they're spouting false information like its gospel
WTF are you talking about?
what are you on about?
Buy it pre-built at first and learn/upgrade as you go.
Build if you want. Buy if you can. Play in the end. Now let us see how much hate this nuetral comment gets. Cmon!!!

... If you know what you're doing ALWAYS BUILD.
If you're not confident enough to build without damaging components, buy a PC.
Not always... When GPUs were all the way up a few years ago buying a prebuilt was a no-brainer... Plus even if you know what you're doing, an included extended general warranty can be better than individual parts that might not have any coverage
Nice video, you're very funny :) keep your style !

*Me being a 15yr*: everything
I'm a big fan of NVC. Thank you Seth!
Every 4 to 6 years? Me changing PCs every 2 or 3 decades..
All my components are from 2015 and still work fine. I've added some memory but other than that it works well enough. Starting to meet minimum requirements but it's sufficient
Building a pc is always gonna be in my opinion the best way just building your own pc and getting the parts is an experience. Only if you can find pc parts for msrp of course.
Where they find this guy!? Jim carrey relative? Not bad... keep it comin.
Even if u don't know what you're doing just go to your tech savy friend and he'll help you out building it. Might even learn a thing or two.
PIck and let them unbox and build in front of you. Safe and instant replacement if there's a problem.
Just bought my 3070Ti!!!
Just did both of these. Let’s see what they think about it
Recently bought a AMD based budget laptop, I'm now a hard-core PC gamer.
Not to mention building your own is way better for prices as you can wait for big sales like Black Friday and buy the best piece per price.
Me with a PC, a Series X, and a Laptop
Just reading the flame war, lololol
A pc and a series x ? Short bus rider for sure .
@Nell Tull me with a PC all new gen and last gen console,And a house that cost more then you will ever earn, laughing at your comment😌

Hmm something to note about what he says at 5:38. Lenovo does not allow you to swap out the CPU on their pre-builds. If you try to use your CPU on another motherboard that didn’t come with the system, you WILL brick the CPU. And you can’t even put it back with it’s original motherboard to fix it either. It’s just done. Be careful if you buy a Lenovo pre-built PC.
that is crazy!! thank
Build, all the way. it's straightforward, cheaper, more satisfying.
The only downside is the time it takes
@@bigmanmccheez5342 but after that we can change the pc anytime , we don't need to wait for someone
Whats a decent gaming laptop to buy? That plays like ps5 type of games? And how much they cost?
GP66 is worth it.
A laptop that can play ps5 quality games? About 2,000, might be able to find one for around 1,600 if you look around.
pppfpfppfpfppfpfppfppfpfppfpfppfpfp nuh uh not happening you could get 4 PS5's for the cost!
Corsair vengeance prebuilt are great quality if you want a pre built. Probably the best
Yes
corsair and NZXT pcs are probably the only prebuilts I'd buy lol
@@yuh9157is this still true as of today?
Would you still recommend these ?
If there is no wrong answer the please hire the VERGE PC Guy...
Prebuilt: generally you spend more money to get lower performance. An sometimes they upsell you on some tragic nonsense: see ltt secret shopper video
With what's happening in the component market ordering builds better/easier, you just order the build with components you need and take it, you do not have to look for any components that are not currently available or wait for their delivery, and then maybe deal with the fact that they were delivered to the wrong place or was some defect or delivery does not work because of a strike of workers. And you have a warranty in your hands, if you don't like something it will be fixed or refunded.
Do whatever the F you want. It’s your money.
Cocaine and whores it is then.
This guy is at an 11 and needs to bring it back down to a 4
Build, there is not debate possible here... cheaper, better.
And if you don't know how to do it, you must have a friend who do, and if you don't, go ask a pro at a PC repair shop, more expensive than DIY but still less than a pre-build
Building also makes people understand how cheap the latest gen gaming consoles actually are.
You aint building a pc for the same price as a new gen console, with the same specs.
@@PlayboyHZ i think people who build pc's want a bit more than a console can offer
Building is just so much fun. You’ll save a few bucks as well.

Uh this isn’t 100% true. If you buy a shitty dell Alienware prebuilt you get plenty of proprietary parts you can’t replace
we know? he literally said that in the vid.
Got no fcking time to build
5:27 "Gone are the days of propriety chords and cables or soldered boards you can never replace".... IGN showing an image of an Alienware PC 🤣🤣. If you want to save money, and give a crap about squeezing every bit of performance out of your parts, build your own. Some people are not that technically educated.
This video would be so much better without all of the useless asides and trying to be funny. Also would have been shorter and not waste viewers time.
Why is the tone of this one leveled at 12 year olds?
Because people who are actually asking themselves this question likely aren't well versed in building PCs. Being deadpan and overly technical wouldn't help the video do well at all. He's a little over the top but it has to be simplified.
The tongue in cheek joke about littering PCs around the 5:40 mark is pathetic.
YES, there literally is wrong answers!! Jesus Christ, stop spreading misinformation!!
Ditch the PC and get something superior, like a console. Hell even a switch would be better, a PC is just for checking emails and doing taxes. At best it can handle solitaire but even then That's inferior to using physical cards. Never game with PC, be better, use consoles ☺️

Yay another terribly explained pc video by ign….at least this one want as bad as their infamous build video (my mistake that was the verges video not ign). Of course the bar is set so low for them this still qualifies as bad information. There are better channels and options out there to anyone watching this go look for other channels who specify in pc related stuff.
huh? What exact point do you disagree with, instead of vaguely gesturing at misinformation.
