USA Cycling calls Cry Baby Hill "a grueling course that tests even the fittest of cyclists surrounded by an adults-only party where Mardi Gras meets Carnival meets the Tour de France."
Here's the story on Cry Baby Hill, as I understand it from Chris Zenthoefer - a founder of the race:
Cry Baby Hill became famous because it was all the cycling fans who created it. The folks from Soundpony (a bar in the Tulsa Arts District that attracts the cycling community and other cool people) wanted to create a Tour de France experience.
So it evolved from ad hoc parties where the riders would come through and people would be in the middle of the street, and they'd simply “part the waters.” Because everyone was there for the race, they were paying attention.
As it's grown and grown, and there are more and more people who maybe don't know so much about bike racing, they've had to put up barricades since spectators were walking in front of the riders.
Every years there’s a theme. People dress up in costumes. Often the costumes involve very little bits of clothing. This year, it was “Beauty Pageant.”
They do handouts to the riders at the top. When people drop out of the race, they'll come by and hand them a beer. And there are lots of houses hosting private parties all around the course, too.
It's become such a big party that it almost overshoots the mark!
Anyway, on the way to the race, carrying an armful of beer to contribute to the house party, I walked down Cry Baby Hill. I came back, but by the time I did, it was too crowded to go up more than just a little of the way.
This gives you a taste, though. It's 11 minutes of footage condensed down to less than three.

Quite a social, no make that a _very_ social event. Looked a lot of fun. Great choice of music too. I haven't heard that in a while!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah - it's a sight to see. When I was walking up there, I found myself relating to a particular scene from the movie "Dazed & Confused" when newbie Mitch is taking in the party scene over by the Moon Tower. Dr. John was playing on the soundtrack. Had to use it! I'll see if I can find the scene..
