    They make a special cutdown version of the toolhead just for that reason. Dillon makes one but check out Jofer USA. They make a custom polished toolhead for this application also. Its made in Miami Fl. and Joe has awesome customer service. Cheers!

    Good video Fred, now a year or so ago I borrowed a RT1500 to prep half a 5gallon pail of .223, the one I borrowed was mounted in a tool head from Dillon specifically for this trimmer, it was machined or scalloped to make it thinner where the trimmer was mounted. Also he had adapted a sump pump discharge hose of 25' that you attached to your shop vac, to keep the noise at a distance.

    Just got my RT 1500 today. Have sizing/trim dies for .223 and .243. Bought a separate sizing die, RCBS full length for the .223. Glad you showed the station set up for one and four. I'm new to reloading and this is very helpful. I so agree about price and time return. Have done the manual process for trimming, chamfering and de-burring. What a pain. Subscribed and hope to see more videos.

      It sounds like you do a lot of reloading. Joined the Dillon Precision blue group on FB and have gained a wealth of knowledge. Have watched so many on youtube that just want to go fast. I don't think a speed race is the way to go in reloading, just pace the entire course. Oh, and save some steps when possible with technology. Post on Bravo1Xray. @@bravo1xray522

    I love my RT 1500 trimmer, very efficient.. But I agree such a pain to get set up, but when it is set up boy does it chew through brass! I will recommend though that the cases are lubed well. The die that the trimmer sits on is a small based sizing die essentially. I have found that it does resize the neck of the case smaller than I would like and makes for a very tight fit come seating a bullet. I have a final third sizing die set up after the trimmer that just neck sizes, so that it brings that neck back into spec.

    • @DubfromGA
      @DubfromGA 5 лет назад

      Moving into a Dillon 650 now....first progressive for me. This trimmer is on my short list of new gear I want to add. When you say to ensure the case is well lubed prior to trimming......is the normal case lube, the lanolin Dillon stuff, sufficient ? Or, is there another type you recommend ? Thanks.

    Hi Bravo, James here. I was watching your video and observed you using a full size decapping die before trimming. Why? That trimmer should full size if set up correctly. I have the RT1200. Watch my video on fastest way to prep 223 brass part 1. I decap with a neck sizer or a universal die, then swage and decap, and trim, all on the 650 all at the same time. Then I wet tumble with the pins for two hours and that debures the cace and cleans the primmer pockets out. I use the Frankford Arsenal wet tumbler. And I have the mr bullet feeder, so I have to use a neck expansion die so the bullets will stay on with out falling off. Its a hot set up. You do a great presentation on this video, and very professional. My video was one of the very first videos I have ever done on RUclips. I felt embarrassed but it seem to get many views. I am going to subscribe to you right now and click the bell. God bless you and your family. I enjoyed your video, very well done.

    Al Riley. Check out the Giraud Trimmer for answers to your question. It’s also very expensive but you can’t cut .556 down to 300 blk with the Giraud trimmer but it does trim/chamfer.

    Bravo, I give up. I installed the RT 1500 per factory instructions. Also installed an RCBS full length case sizer and decapper in #1 to what the manual instructed. Brass comes out great to within .010 of spec (1.750-1.763). When I adjust the 1500 case sizer for the 1500 to instructions, they don't get trimmed (they, for whatever reason are on spec), but the case length drops to 1.740 to 1.748. I'll buy the beer if you can help me understand why I'm loosing .010 or more on each length after the 1500 sizer.

    Help me out a little on this , if you resize the brass trim it, then go to reload it on another tool head for reloading the brass do you need lube, as it is already sized , all is left is primer, powder, bullet length and crimp ? thanks also on prep of brass should have swage

  • @JoseyOaks

    so with your trim die. I found turning out the die about 1-1.5 turns so it does not affect the neck. About how far did you turn the die out on your setup?

  • @josephperez9795

    Just to be clear , there still isn’t any faster way to swage military brass, you still have to do that in a separate step one case at a time? I have a 5 gallon bucket of 223 brass and I think I’ll start separating crimped and non crimped brass. Thanks for the video, I’m definitely going to be picking up this trimmer👍🏽

    It looks like you got this working great -- I wonder, if you used the special toolhead Dillon makes for the trimmer, which has a relief cut at station 4, you would have had room to mount the lock nut on the top and still be able to mount the vacuum shroud?

      I think the tool head you mentioned is mostly for converting .223 to .300 Black Out. The cases get so short you need to relief cut in the tool head. I'll pick one up and see if it helps. Idea for my next video!! Thanks!

    Dillon shows on there site that it is a sizing die as well as trimming.Thanks

      @bravo1xray522  6 лет назад

      So how are setting the Dillon trim die to not size the brass. Are you able to keep it turned off of shell plate a turn or two to keep it from resizing the brass.
      Thanks Dan

  • @larryd1296
    @larryd1296 4 года назад

    You forgot to resize the case neck after trimming the case. the trim die squeezes the neck below SAAMI specs so you should run a mandrel thru the neck to bring it back out to accept the bullet.

    • @bravo1xray522
      @bravo1xray522  4 года назад

      I have the trim die set so it does no sizing at all. I have my sizing die set up in station 1 and with this set up works perfect. I have about 10k loaded this way with no issue. Thanks for the comment and interest!! 73

    Hey great video...very well informative. My question for.....since you have already sized decapped and trimmer....after you tumble and put the finished brass back in the hopper will you remove the sizing and recapping die from station #1 and start with priming the brass in station #2.

    • @bravo1xray522
      @bravo1xray522  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you for the comment and questions! I have not had a issue with losing the sizing process in the re-tumble. So when I'm actually loading station 1 is empty, Station 2 is priming, charging and putting a slight flare into the neck. Works really good and produces excellent reloads!! Please let me know if you have any other questions.. Please like and subscribe!! 73.

    • @bravo1xray522

      There are two lock nuts used in this set up. One on the trimmer and one on the die. Both would be as described as on the bottom I guess. I hope this answered your question.

    • @bravo1xray522
      @bravo1xray522  4 года назад

      You need a different die for every caliber that you need to trim. On Dillons site they show it with a locking ring. In my experience all dies come with some sort of locking device..

      Bravo1Xray I understand a separate die is required for each caliber. My question is...is everything provided in the trimmer kit for you to set this up. Or do you need to purchase another lock ring for the trimmer (the one on the top side of the tool head near the base of the trimmer in your video)?
      I ask, because Dillon sells a $6 lock nut that has the special thread count/pitch for the threads that the trimmer screws on to. Thanks for the clarification

      The trimming motor comes with everything you need for it. My guess is the one that you found on their site is a replacement? Not sure.

      Love mine. If you have very many cases to trim. I had no issue with setup just have to do it. I use it for 223 and 30-06. Mine is really quite other than the vacuum running. I used both nuts on the top for the RL 55OB.
