I'm in the middle of my train layout build and I built a desk that I designed to slide under the layout when not in use but its not working as I envisioned. I wanted to have desktop organization with all my tools at hand but its not going to work so the tackle box idea is very intriguing.
Metal ruler with whatever scale you model in on it, magnifier glasses and a flat piece of glass for painting and gluing on. Coffee is Krispy Kreme classic from my Keurig with just a touch of Coffeemate creamer.

I tend to subdivide my tools and supplies by task. I have one set of tools for making turnouts, one set for wiring, one set for scenery, one set for installing turnout motors, one set for building structures, one set for bench work, etc. Of course there are many tools that serve more than one task. I'm always experimenting with different tools and supplies trying to find easier methods to obtain better results.. I suppose my favorite tool is my soldering iron.
I would add a 12” extension bit for your power drill. Sooner or later you’re going to need to drill a hole and the drill will get in the way. For example: You want to add a street light between two buildings
Jimmy I have a box and bag I carry with me. Take it to the museum and of course my layout at home. Right now it's in the afternoon so I'm drinking a coke but this morning just simple Folger black always.
I like using the small retractable razor knives they can be adjusted small enough to shave off but not cut you. I also have a lighted 5x magnifier lamp on the work bench great to see those small parts on my n scale buildings. Coffee is Black Rifle silencer smooth w french vanilla creamer

In draws, on counters, in cabinets … stacks and stack! Now I’m just a little more organized. I found a little countertop drawer organizer that holds all my rolling stock. Finally half cup of strong black no sugar coffee… don’t know what brand. ( cafeteria coffee)
I have a list I made as you told it to us. Somethings I have others I need to get and those on this site gave out some more tools to add to list. So glad you did this video. I use my cordless dremel the most. I have a pair of wire strippers that go down to 28 awg, for installing decoders and Led lighting in buildings. My Model Railroad scale ruler also gets used a lot. Great topic, Jimmy.
Great video and I like your Amazon list. I have a lot of the exact same tools you have on Amazon. One thing I would add that I still need is one of those extendable magnet pickup tools. I am constantly dropping tiny screws, springs, etc.. and crawling around under the work table trying to find them. I have also seen magnetic cups or dishes for holding small metal screws and parts that I plan to add to my work bench as well.

Hey jimmy want to say all of the tools you bought up are great and I use all of them too as for the razor knife I use an Ofna 18mm brake away blade knife as I also do a lot of tabletop gaming terrain and it’s great for cutting exp foam and anything else. Coffee tonight is Starbucks Sumatra in K cups for my coffee maker in the shed.
The hobbyvac sucks, just use a vacuum cleaner with a sock at the end....also just use aquarium sand for the train track stone, cheaper and easier to get.
how long is a piece of string? for me N scale each to their own a lot of factors go in to it space, how good your eyes are when things go wrong, e.t.c.! the only one who can decide what is right for you is you
If you have bad hands and poor eyes HO lol depends on your space and what you want HO needs more room N scale is 1/167 size of a real life object so you can do more
1 x 2 x 3 blocks are standard tooling in the machining industry. I've used these for over 30 years and never heard anyone call them 3-2-1 blocks. It's 1-2-3 blocks if you don't want to sound like a dunce.

That pad of sanding strips is a "drafting pencil sharpener". Get them at any drafting supply store or some office supply stores.

I have an old sewing box for much the same thing. I keep my foam hot wire kit in it so no room for drills.

I know that woodland scenics paint is way more but I have found that it looks the best and with out having to do a lot of mixing of paints
The sanding pad is an artist’s drawing pencil sharpener. Michael’s or Hobby Lobby, or Walmart.
