      exactly, it's total poppycock that you can't have Drack (and your other companion) go get the Krogans while you rescue the Raeka and the other slarians, it's almost as if the producers of Bioware said:
      "Alright, listen guys, I have a great Idea, how about we make the players choose between saving the krogans or saving Raeka."
      "What if they did both?"
      "Then that would make the entire thing pointless!"
      "But why make them choose between them when they could be a good leader and split their strike team into 2 and-"
      " *Anyone* else? No? Good."

      I know right? Always pissed me off when you can't do that in games. I mean, it technically happened in ME3 (if certain characters were loyal and alive, they'd help you get extra EMS that you'd lose out on otherwise, like how Zaeed got you Turians and a Volus fleet by threatening a Volus he was hired to protect).

    • @christopheredwards9904

      because Krogans are already badass on the field, and Kett exaltation (If you ever read the log on Kett Beheimoths in the Species Catagorey in the Codex, you'd know this) has a malfunction where Krogan "Blood Rage" is permanent, making them even more of a strong target because as everyine should know, Blood rage only happens when they're low on health an it's supposed to make them nearly invulnerable and make their power attacks replenish faster and makes them do more damage when they melee- (you get the point) so choosing Raeka over the scouts is going to make the Kett even more deadly, with them having an offensive strike force of 2-3 Beheimoths, they would be bound to be able to wipe out the enitre Angaran Resistance in a heartbeat (Not to mention all the expendable organs a Krogan has also gives them an edge) so yeah, be mad at Drack because he's mad at you all you want, but the right choice almost no doubt would be to save the Krogan Scouts.

    When Drack says to back off on the Tempest after saving the Salarian Pathfinder, if you say you're sorry instead, he forgives you in the next conversation you start with him even if it's within the same minute. So, save the Pathfinder and tell Drack you're sorry. Best results.

      Drack tends to be a surprisingly understanding and rational Krogan in almost every conversation that involves him. Considering the obvious reasons Krogans and Salarians hate each other, I knew he'd be pissed when they were chosen over his own people, especially after having Just seen the result of their exaltation. But since he forgives you with a laugh and practically a pat on the back just for saying sorry, always pick Salarians.

    It's WAY better to save the Pathfinder.
    Drack understands that mission parameters change.
    And if you do all of the stuff for Drack and Elaaden, Kesh is very understanding that you've already helped the krogan.
    Plus, as a matter of principle, Drack's scouts were the closest thing to military, while Raeka's people were civilians: it is standard military practice to rescue civvies over non-VIP military. (On top of which, Raeka is VIP.)
    And choose Morda at the end of the game. Best solution for both.

    Militarily speaking, there is only one correct choice to make because you know *damn* well what your orders from Addison and Tann would have been. Remember, you aren't really the leader, the people have trusted you as one on your word and mostly due to lack of choice. It's also the correct strategic choice, and your own extra abilities can overcome the unfortunate fact that it's not tactically optimal. You save Pathfinder Raeka. Enough with the chess Queen/Pawn metaphors. There aren't only 8 Krogan scouts left in the Galaxy. There is however only one *actual* pathfinder left and no, they are not "space Jeebus" they are the people (not you) in whom most of the training, resources, power and knowledge were invested because they were the ones who were going to find and start the colonies for *all* races. This is your chance to save a *real* one, and don't forget that during the scourge *most* of the leaders were lost. This choice was practically automatic for me.

    • @RazielTheUnborn
      @RazielTheUnborn 3 года назад +4

      Late to the comment but there isn't just one Pathfinder when you have the order of succession. Many have been trained to be Pathfinder if the current one dies or is no longer fit for duty. Cora is trained to be a Pathfinder.
      This is more than just 8 Scouts. This is the Kett learning how to Exalt ALL Krogan. A single Exalted Krogan is strong enough to overcome a Pathfinder and their crew on its own. What will happen if the Kett decide to send in groups of Exalted Krogan? Krogan are hard to put down on their own ass is, but Krogan with untold genetic modifications and added genetic benefits to their already tanky disposition is absolutely terrifying. When it comes to Exalting Krogan, I rather leave a replaced team to die than make it possible for the Kett to reinforce with Krogan shock troopers. In the overall grand scheme of things, you'll have way more casualties if the Krogan are Exalted than getting a new Salarian Pathfinder.

Now that I completed the game, I think it is obvious that there is no absolute right or wrong. These classifications are always dependent on the observer, scope and scale. The possibilities and consequences are infinite with progressing of time/events. Each decision has its pro and cons in relation to the perspective chosen. They reflect our horizon, mindset, experience, social programming etc. Maybe this is a hidden message, that what ever you choose or decide, it is not wrong nor is it a final marker for your development. We are free to chose, free to re-evaluate, free to develop that is why we have a choice. Moreover it is often not the external information we have got to make a decision (because often they are wrong, distorted, not complete or simply contradicting or difficult to classify) but it is more an intuition or internal guidance which leads us on our pursuit of happiness.

      Not only that, I like to be able to point out that plenty of salarians were taken from the ark (In the thousands, I believe). I figured there's less Pathfinders than Krogan but that conversation with Drack was just painful. Sadly it shows one of MEAs biggest issues, zero consequences. Let the Pathfinder die and nobody bats an eye and you get no consequences in the final mission. If you let the Krogan become exalted Drack forgives you after being grumpy for a while, no added difficulty later on with Kett/Krogan abominations, Drack leaving the team or worsened relations between Nexus and the Krogans or something. Everyone is so fucking *reasonable* all the time.

      It decreases replay value and shows a bigger issue with ME:A. The devs were scared of making the player leave the comfort zone, which is necessary to get moments like Virmire or being challenged by Wrex after he figures out you sabotaged the cure. ME doesn't really give you a whole lot of consequences overall, but Andromeda was more railroaded than the OT. That being said, MEA did a bunch of things very well, making your own class(es), and having personal/loyalty missions tie into the overarching mission was absolute mint.

    I find that saving the Pathfinder is the more humane decision. She is a great leader like no other among salarians, with a will to sacrifice for her people, compasionate, a person to inspire and drive and someone to look up to, in a context where survival of the entire species depends on her. She was assigned/chosen for this task so she is the greater good, helping her means helping an entire race in a new galaxy.
    Helping the scouts favors the relation with Drack but they don't bring the same level of value and importance to the krogan species (on the other hand I have already helped the krogans by giving up the core and it doesn't feel like putting them in a unfavorable position).
    Just to make my fights (later on in the game) and tasks easier at the expense of an entire race would've been the egotistical choice but not the logical/humane one.

    • @tracyfraser-bingham5823
      @tracyfraser-bingham5823 2 года назад

      save salarians = get only og pathfinder left. salarian biology important factor here as well. she is a SHE salarian. she would be expected to be a huge part in any plans of populations the salarians were intending to have. she and other salarians there put themselves on the line to help you out in the mission you meet her (regardless on if you needed the help). you are saving civilians along with her. any military person worthy of being a defender of their people would tell you for those under their care, the enemy would have to go through them first before their people can be touched. someone also mentioned she has a SAM as well. unless she intends to destroy herself and the SAM in her, that is tech the kett can take, reverse engineer (edit, tech, tekk, kett, reverse engineer? intentional clue, serendipity (ME2 overlord anyone?), or just coincidence?) and use against you later. krogan scouts are by definition a type of soldier. not necessarily defender but thats something you go in realizing you may not come out. you will HAVE to fight exalted krogan if take this route, so tougher short term fight and not yet fully measured effect on any yet to be made sequels.
      save krogan scouts= at least delay kett from figuring out how to exalt krogan. if doesnt stop them from doing so in any as yet to be made sequels, it still means you dont have to face them for now. save them you get to be godfather to keshs kids. you dont get drack angry at you even temporarily. you are saving HIS people, you may not know them, but he does. You dont know either group prior to this mission. salarians will be exalted and have to face them. not made clear if kett retrieved raekas SAM, but apparently not. if so will have to be shown in future sequels. war is hell and not everyone can be as good as they would like to be. if giving up a tactical advantage to make an attempt to save someone causes the enemy to win, then you lost. raeka is only og pathfinder you can choose to save. you may want to know exactly how big a difference in ability there is between a replacement pathfinder vs an og one. turians replacement was a spectre, anyone playing the me series should know that means they are definitely competent. depending on your choice with the asari, may have a definitely competent one (literally wrote the book on how asari do engagements) that did a decision that makes them unpopular but may or may not have been right call, or you get someone who is totally untrained, but might be able to learn and the one thing they were tested on, they passed. you are the humans replacement, and you have to be at least somewhat competent to make it through the game. apparently your father trained you in what he was trained in in an unofficial manner, so while dont have a medal or certificate, you may have been prepped to be a pathfinder already without knowing it, which may be why you get through the game. the salarian replacement, is a male salarian, who had not studied to be replacement though they knew they were next in line. they do work to bring themselves up to speed, apparently enough for certain things to be accomplished by endgame. a salarian memory is near perfect at least.
      so saving the salarians very much the morally correct choiceof those two decisions. could cost you the ability to win though this game though. saving krogan, makes it notably easier to survive to the end here ( if only by easing one small portion). both decisions may have consequences in sequels though. would have liked option to consider splitting team and risk losing everything or trying to take over ship as some people mentioned here. ultimate challenge mode:can you solo the archons entire army? hmm the game would have been alot shorter though if that was an option.

    Reasons why most players would choose to save krogan scouts:
    1. Krogans are badass, from ME trilogy to Andromeda, Drack has that Wrex appeal
    2. In this mission, the KroKett could withstand damage akin to the Eiroch. Quite problematic if you keep encountering them. A hybrid Salarian wouldn't be much trouble.
    3. Ryder gets to save the Salarian Ark, why bother saving a few more? They're already indebted to Ryder whether or not Raeka survives.
    4. Salarians unleashed the genophage on the Krogans after the Rachni Wars, a small payback of convenient murder would be nice.
    5. Having a small Krogan squad indebted to Ryder is always a good idea.
    6. Drack is in your squad and he urges Ryder to save his scouts.

  • @123darkpassenger

    The way I see it is this, the salarian species was at risk in Andromeda and most of them aren't warriors, they are scientists and explorers and have been asleep for 600 years only to be enslaved as soon as they awoke..
    and like the Krogan like to brag about, they are warriors who live by the sword and die by the sword, also most of them have been awake since the nexus rebellion and were atleast given the chance to fight back, they should have known death would be preferable over enslavement
    I see it as the pathfinders duty to protect each species no matter what, and I mean come on krogans what is it? they all boast how death doesn't scare them but when it comes time for their end they kick, complain and blame like petty children...
    Krogan are enteraining but to me they're cowards who are good at throwing their bodyweight around like bullies, hell they always play the victim when the genophage is brought up but do they forget its because they tried to forcibly take over the galaxy? they don't like to take responsiblity for their actions and that I just can't tolerate

    I like how everyone seems to use the words "obvious" and "clearly" when voicing their opinions.
    Certainly both sides deserve to be saved, so it comes down to a value judgement.
    By saving Pathfinder Raeka:
    -You get a trained pathfinder
    -You prevent that detailed knowledge about pathfinders from potentially falling into Kett hands
    -You might gain political capital with nexus leadership (aka Tann)
    -Raeka herself carried significant political weight (see codex)
    But,
    -The archon kinda already gained a lot of information about pathfinders by injecting you with that serum when he had you in that trap
    -Do you really want to be best buds with Tann?
    -Her political weight in the Milky Way was clear, but less so in Andromeda
    By saving the Scouts:
    -You get Krogan and Drack's loyalty
    -You could prevent further Kett research into Krogan exaltation
    -Preventing those Krogan from being exalted and deployed as weapons will save hundreds if not thousands of lives
    -The Krogan are far more susceptible to going extinct due to their lower numbers
    But,
    -It seems like the Kett are pretty far along in their exaltation of the Krogan so it might not matter
    -While you probably don't want to be best buds with Tann do you really desire to piss him off?

    Plus the krogan are much more powerful/dangerous than the salarians, and if the kett have to figure out how to exalt and utilize one species in their army, I'd rather it be salarians than krogan, who they've almost unlocked the secrets to already.

  • @thomasneal9291
    @thomasneal9291 6 лет назад +3

    actually, the game is heavily biased towards you making the choice to save the Krogan:
    -the first mention you get is from sam telling you about krogan that can be saved, and warning you about the fact that they are near to being exalted. sam doesn't even mention saving salarians. it's the other pathfinder that does that.
    -second is Drack's commentary
    -third, and hardly ever mentioned, is that if you ask sam in your cabin on the Tempest afterwards, he tells you flat out that your father would have done that differently. not judging, mind, but for some reason needed to point that out anyway...
    -fourth, it is noted by other krogans during diplomatic debate
    -finally, you also have to face more krogan behemoths if you don't save them
    none of these things happen if you save the krogan but let the salarians die.
    I personally think saving the pathfinder is the right thing to do (plus, I LIKE the challenge the behemoths add late game). too much experience there too lose. But very clearly the game itself leans towards you saving the krogan.

    3) Raika very skillful - cost more then severel scout unit
    4) Mission - save salarian, saving krogan is unpredictable difficulties - mean if there choice you know your mission.

Losing the Salarian Pathfinder sucked, but she put herself in a situation she knew she would not make it. As a Pathfinder, she made the choice, as much as she did come to help she should of focused on her mission and I wouldn't have been forced to make a crappy choice. I thought a few exalted krogan was more of a threat to the Initiative than the salarians so I chose the scouts. I wasn't bothered about the pathfinder because hardly any of the original ones are there and we're doing alright. I also like to stick a finger in Tann's eye at every opportunity.

  • @connorcaldwell588

    I prefer to save the scouts because the salarians still get a Pathfinder even if it isn't Raeka and because even though Drack eventually forgives you, I still find it dangerous to piss of a krogan and because I like making sure the Kett can't make more heavy hitters for their troops.

  • @sethsavage2442

    Plus saving the scouts and gaining a better friendship with drack it could effect a next ME game but that's a small effect. Saving the salarian pathfinder that's a crucial and denting effect to a next ME game. I would go with saving the salarian PF

  • @TurtleRawrrs
    @TurtleRawrrs 7 лет назад +3

    Huh. I thought the krogan scouts were the obvious choice. If you left the scouts behind then the kett would have had the means to finish the exaltation process for the krogan species therefore putting the entire colony at risk. Also Sarissa, Avitus, and Ryder ALL inherited their roles as pathfinders. Seeing as Hayjer seems calm in the face of danger he seems to be capable replacement for Raeka.

    • @Ziircool

      TurtleRawrrs they will have the means to do it either way really, just capture other krogans tho they are a bit more rare than salarians

    • @TurtleRawrrs
      @TurtleRawrrs 7 лет назад +1

      I suppose. But you leave the ship knowing you've killed a prototype and taken away the rest of their live subjects. If they do capture more krograns in the future we won't really know if "Kett Krogran" will be a thing until the next game or DLC.

    • @xaviervega468

      At the same time though Sarissa is a veteran Asari commando and Avitus used to be Council SPECTRE. They were both HIGHLY trained individuals before joining the Intiative and are used to high pressure situations. Not sure if Cpt. Hayjer has that level of training or experience.

    Urgghhh...I actually sided with Drack on this one. True, he wasn't very nice about it and could've shown remorse and gratitude, but really, what would you expect him to say? "I'm sorry, of course we should've went back for the Salarians"? The situation left time for only one group of aliens to be saved, and Drack acknowledged that it was a hard decision, but those were HIS people who were going to be exalted. People from his clan, people he trained - moreover, these are YOUNG Krogan. To repeat what someone said earlier: you can make more Salarians, but Krogan? Well...*side-eyes Salarians*...that's on your ancestors, bruh. Your ancestors made the Krogan more important to save, so...woop.

      Krogan have always had flat teeth. they are omnivores, probably evolved from a prey species. Note the eyes on the side of their heads as opposed to all the other race's forward facing eyes, almost exclusively found in predators.

      exactly, they have biological features and traits of prey. Eyes, teeth, armor, body mass, size, frontal plate. Also culture: they have farmers, they wrestle using their frontal plate same as buffalo. I think their design is based on Muskox and turtle

  • @Tfmusicmaker
    @Tfmusicmaker 6 лет назад +5

    I chose salarians. The pathfinder is the greater good. He and his scouts messed up earlier that put his scouts there. The initiative is what Ryder reps. Not the Krogen who left the intiative hanging and bailed. And above all citizens come before solders. Drack should've understood that. He just wanted to relieve his guilt at the expense of civilians and a pathfinder. Not happening here.

    I got pissed off at this choice, for the pathfinder to risk her life, I thought it would at least 30 salarians, something worth it, but it turned out to be a handful, each one of those krogan is worth all of the salarians, fuck, I could probably taken the ship with those krogan if it weren't for those guns coming back online to shoot the ark. All in all, we needed a fully trained pathfinder considering the rest are a military commander, an ex spectre on the verge of alcoholism and some guy who used to guard a relay. I really wish I could explain the choices so Drack didn't get so pissed off.

    I’d like to think that the Salarian pathfinder died like noble six did in halo reach since I chose the scouts. It would be a fitting end for a pathfinder in combat. She can slaughter as many Kett as she can, cripple their army, decimate their morale. Bring as many enemies to the grave as possible but remember that this is a battle she cannot win.

  • @MAlford65
    @MAlford65 7 лет назад +2

    I'm concerned for what will come in the next games based off this decision. It reminds me of Ashley and Kaiden. It's impossible to save both, and the story line changes from then forward.
    The Salarians still have a Pathfinder in Hayjer. Raeka made her own decision to die for a few stragglers. That's not a worthy sacrifice for a Pathfinder. She seems far to emotional to assume that role, but I suppose that's why she had it, she inspired other Salarians. So being martyr'd, that could cause Salarian aggression toward Ryder or the Kett.
    In saving Drack's scouts, you succeed in gaining a large deal of loyalty and confidence from him. I feel like in future games that will be extremely important in saving lives or accomplishing a goal. In previous games these sorts of decisions had huge impacts. Drack is justified in his disdain for Salarians, being as they developed the genophage.
    For the Initiative, Drack's Scouts seem like the better choice. You still have the support of the Salarians either way, ad one of your companions is even more loyal to you. You have seemingly more options available in the future.

    I chose to save the scouts, to me this video reinforces that it was the right choice.
    That and I didn't wan't the Kett to perfect Krogan Exaltation, I played that Mission at level 49 and that Behemoth still had a load of skulls above its health bar meaning it was a higher level.
    There is only 1200 Krogan in Andromeda minus the ones the player killed and a few casualties here and there from mercenary work and fighting the Worm.

    • @Zanithos
      @Zanithos 7 лет назад +1

      BNOBLE981
      You know technically they've done it anyway. There's a new bronze mission in which you fight an exalted krogan (if not more), so since the multiplayer is cannon your choice didn't really matter. It's more of a "save the helpless" vs "prevent a sacrifice" kind of thing.

    • @BNOBLE981
      @BNOBLE981 7 лет назад +2

      You can't stop them from exhalting Krogan in general but you can prevent them from using those specific Krogan.
      The Kett can always get more Krogan only 700 of the 1200 are in the colony the rest are either on the Nexus, Mercenaries, exiles or colonists in the outposts. (Easier targets for the Kett to capture)
      Besides I would assume the Salarian Pathfinder knowing whats at stake would die rather than be captured alive (that and the Kett have yet to perfect Exaltation on Salarians, a few more won't make a difference)
      All that and the Scouts join you , Along with the Replacement Salarian Pathfinder in one of the big battles near the end of game.
