Some may say that assault mechs don't make good scouts, but the Lyran Alliance disagree! If their 'scout' lance of 4 100-ton Atlases leaves no survivors to report on their positions, surely that counts as stealth, right?

Compiling a detailed report of enemy movements is just so much less efficient than simply and truthfully reporting "Area clear".
All clear because they spotted you in time and ran away, or all clear because they did not. Simple.

@@JasonSkye Good question. I'm not too privy on slots, but I do know that 1500 yellow jackets can fit in roughly a 2-foot cube hive. So go off of math from there.

Steiner scouts are the finest in the Inner Sphere. They *always* get the answer to "can the enemy stop a four-Atlas lance".
And thankfully the answer is always "NO" 😂

The commander reluctantly accepts the daring mission, knowing full well that they may not return from such an overwhelmingly tough contract. They walk across the cold galvanised catwalk with an eerie vibe looming over them, and coming to a halt at the front of their mech.
They stare broodingly into the cockpit for a brief moment, then out of nowhere, a sudden jolt of bravery takes hold. They tell themselves that if this could be their last mission, then they're gonna make sure that it'll be one for the history books.
They hop into their mech with a wonderful bravado, and get prepped ready to drop.
*Reactor online. Sensors online. Weapons online. All systems nominal* .
"Remember. Stealth is optional on this mission."
All Hail the Steiner Scout Squad. Praise Z0rg.

The only thing that says "we'll find those enemies" more than 100 tons of assault mech, is 400 tons of assault mech. Stay scouty.
With enough tonnage you can create a gravitational field to bring the enemy to the Atlases!
The large cloud of dust the fleeing enemies make is invaluable for locating their positions
If the Lyran Commonwealth is so infamous for military incompetence, then why are they the only Successor State with Mechwarriors capable of performing both a scouting mission and a demolition mission at the same time? Think about it!
Completing two missions at once is sheer efficiency
Because all they scouted/demolished was a school, a hospital, and an orphanage

"Scouted" obtaining vital military Intel without being detected and reported. Note, an adversary cannot detect and report if they have already been squished by your Steiner Atlas.
I hear Lyran manuals even recommend stepping on your enemy as a stealthy way to eliminate them
Surprisingly, the Steiner Scout Lance is an example of what is called 'fighting for information' or, in essence, poking the enemy with a stick and seeing what happens.
And they mostly find out if the enemy can defend against 4 atlases, they usually cant
Can the enemy survive our probe? *4 Atlas later* No. No they cannot.
When I was in the brigade recon squadron in '04, we were told our mission was to find a fight we couldn't win on our own, then call in the main line.
Those guys skip a step.
This slaps like 400 tons of ECM obscured Atlas. 0 to 'DEAR LORD WHERE DID THEY COME FROM' real quick.

Once i had that 95 tons Banshee equipped with nothing but lots of armor, jump jets and its own fists. Good times. Yes i really used it for scouting.

I love the jokes about "Steiner' scouting lance"... yet House Steiner was the first star kingdom to RnD and field dedicated scout mech... the Commando.

Commando is powered armor.
A competently piloted commando is a royal pain in the arse. The trick is in tabletop and HBS BT, you don't stop moving. If you stop, you get waxed by anything 50 tons and up in two turns or less.
Edit: spelling on mobile is also a pain in the arse.
I'd say locusts are the OG scouts. And a plague of locusts with competent leadership can give anyone a run for their money.
@@WinterRaven25 well... yes. Ok, I rest corrected, *one of* the first dedicated scouts. I do respect Locusts... they get a priority on my kill list, ignoring Locusts bite me in butt many times in Mecwarrior 2018.

This came out at the perfect time. I've recently entered the late-game in my current MW5-YAML playthrough and out of my current eight 100t 'Mechs, a whoping six are Atlases. The meme is real^^

i like the AS7-D-DC more because of its ECM.
Especially in darkness and close quarters its very spooky for enemies if they have to look up to identify the wall that just stepped in front of them. :D
Because of the ECM its also the only one i sometimes struggle to solo kill with the Firestarter 9A.
I'm quite partial to the AS7-K, I have a soft spot for gauss rifles 😊

This is the music you need when playing endgame Battleground missions. Your atlas is out of Ac20 ammo and suddenly you get the message that an enemy Melee Mech wave is coming. Now is the time to become Legendary!

Steiner scouts are why I both have trust issues when told about "light" Steiner combat presence and why I keep a capacitor boosted ER PPC on hand.
