It's a classic server from a 2007 expansion, so of course Blizzard got servers from 2007 to give players the closest to the original experience.
Exactly and to give them the true blizzard experience, they banged a in game shop in there, just so you can see you're a cash cow : ) Blizzard are so awesome!
they are actually worse than 2007, because back then the servers had dedicated hardware (also known as the server blades). shadowlands and classic uses some random cloud servers that are virtualized to save money

Blizzard Activision are a small Indie company you cannot expect them to be perfect alright cut them some slack.
I understand how infuriating this is but it's crazy how effective DDoS attacks are. A couple kids with a couple hundred bucks to spend on a botnet can literally break the whole game down. I object to current-day Blizzard as much as the next guy does but this is the one situation you really can't fault them.
There are solutions against DDoS for websites but that's because you don't really need constant communication with them - you get a page, click a link, get another page, etc. That's very slow compared to a game where you might be exchanging anywhere from 5 to 100 packets every single second you're logged in. DDoS protection just doesn't work.
If anything, get mad at Blizzard for saying "we are working on it". There's literally almost nothing they can do.

EU Mirage Raceway had 0 issues last night, granted its not as busy as Faerlina, but hats off to blizzard on this one
Eu rea;ms were unaffected. Asia realms too. DDOS attack targeted US server host so basically only yanks got short end because no one else liked them.
The server issues caused asmon to get more exercise than he has in years.

As someone NOT on a streamer server, it went smoothly for the most part, no dcs, just occasional lag hiccups during the first 2 minutes. Lol lmao

Ken Havens I gotta disagree with you there, mate. The classes in FF14 are all unique and play different. Rotations like mini games in of themselves unlike WoW cookie cutter “all tanks play the same” “all healers play the same” but to each his own

@@tukkek DDoS would hit their entire infrastructure, not just one single server. DDoSing would cause issues on every server, and most likely retail as well. It's literally just the big streamer server being flooded with people and Faerlina is imploding from the load, same thing as Classic launch just with a lot less people overall.

@@Tory-JJ I know I sure don't know how Servers work so maybe Tory! Maybe Blizzard has the best and most powerful servers money can buy dedicated to their game. Anything for the players am I right? Despite their best efforts and the money they have at their disposal, there are just so many players, modern server technology simply cant deal with the heat! Lets also not forget, that at every launch of a major patch or expansion the shadow organization of DDoS attackers rears its ugly head to breath fire on Blizzards good times! ...Or they are using sub optimal (cheaper) servers for their game and calling high load a "DDoS attack" every time more than 50 people load into the same space... Which is true? Who knows, who cares, Blizzard being cheap and using DDoS as an excuse is just more amusing to me. Though I will admit... Blizzard using the best servers money can buy and still being taken down by this 15 year strong DDoS campeign is kinda funny as well! xD

Guys if been playing MMO's also for 15 years, and EVERY TIME an expantion releases, there are server issues, queue times whatever. Doesnt matter what MMO, every populair MMO had this, and YET! Everytime people think this time it will be different... Its like the definition of insanity

Atiesh was smooth no lag everyone in dungeons made it easy to quest
So was Thunderfury, we were about 15mins late but it was smooth.

Honestly waiting an extra 5 minutes to form a group on a small server is infinitely better than waiting for queue times like this. I literally did not DC or lag one time all release

idk, my server had a fuckload of people and is one of the highest pop pve servers and there was very minimal lag. Was pleasantly surprised. Very well could've just been Faerlina because of the whole streamer thing.

Me and my GF play on different Servers - both are full and both went fine
In EU it was smooth as much as it was possible. On Shazzrah we got instantly 8 layers at release time (3 more layers added in a minute up from 5). Got only 1 small spike 30m after, no disconnects, it was a miracle

I think blizz did a relatively good job from the experience on my server, compared to OG launch for sure lol. I play sulfuras horde which is another high pop east coast server. I went into blasted lands around 545 with my group and the SECOND we crossed into blasted lands it was lag spiking and rubber banding. We got to the DP and it was INSANE! Lag was intense, but I only got 1 DC before entering Outland. There was a massive pile of people waiting for the quest to appear and as I was clicking him checking for quest one time it DC me. After a few min of waiting for the quest to appear, I closed wow deleted WTF, logged back in got the quest immediately, logged out restored WTF, logged back in lag was mostly gone and ran through the dark portal and was golden for the rest of the night. I had 2 other DCs when I tried to leave /4 after filling our dungeon group so I could actually read party chat, but that was it. My whole group was good until 4am with no other DCs. That was a massive improvement for me personally compared to BCs launch back in the day.
i remember the days on incendius when the ques were a solid 2-4 hour ques mid afternoon.
Load screen for ramparts and boom your hide sent back to storm wind son your facial reaction was priceless lol.

EU was super smooth, handed in all my pre done quests, did 1 run of ramparts then went to bed, excited to play it more after work today!
Most NA servers were fine as well, just the one streamer server got rekt.

I remember taking the day off for classic and I was on the waiting for queue all day lol wasted a day off work.

It's funny that everyone is hyping WoW Classic when it's just a "restart" from the beginning.
Eventually it will reach a point where it will restart again because all the expansions will be out again.
And after that it will eventually restart yet again.

It's actually quite clever, they make profit from the feeling of nostalgia alone. I don't play WoW anymore, I switched to FF XIV a long time ago but I still like watching people enjoy playing their games.
That is if they don't get constantly kicked from the server that is, incredible how unstable these servers are.
My launch experience on Herod was awesome, there was some lag at the start but never any crashes or extend loading screens

Herod had no queue and was lag free after the first 10 minutes zero DCs and the zones were relatively unpopulated due to dungeon spam.

I'd Dungeon level aswell if I was playing tbc. Did questing in classic and it was just pissboring. Takes like 2 hours for some droprate quest that gives you 5% to the next level. At least doing a dungeon is fun.
Pretty sure Asmon would love to quest, but as a streamer thats borderline impossible. Especially on a pvp server
Myzreal was smooth. Maybe don’t play on the server all the streamers and their fanboys play on.

Yup, Grobbulus was perfectly smooth and my group hit 62 dungeon running.
@@Shad3x even the only populated server in Russia was ok. They got near 5k queue in the middle of the day, and no queue at all on the release hour. 9-11 layers created

Remember playing and getting disconnected for the first time after the portal opens. I go to his stream to see if this is a universal thing only to realize Id, completely by coincidence, picked the same server he was playing on. I started laughing when Faerlina went down, and then a couple hours after I tried to get on again and had a two hour queue, watched an entire movie waiting through it, then played lmao.
Be comprehensive. Blizzard is a multi dollar company. You can't expect them to ensure their game is playable at release.
At least 2 dollars.

So he played for a three days then barely ever again, I really hate how much he now hates Classic.
I am glad I had work the day of launch. I was eager to play, but my BE isn't 60 yet. I heard from my guild that those who tried to get in ultimately had the same problem. The game was down till about 4am the following morning before it started to work "normally" No one seems to have gotten stuck in a Queue yet and they have been having a blast. Watch you walk through the portal was still epic, I cannot wait to do the same.
This is the authentic TBC experience. Just like when it first came out!

I dunno... the best part about this video so far is knowing what happened, knowing how Asmon is going to react, but continuing to laugh as he gets up from his chair to do a speed scoot to get his jerky, comes back realizes it and goes "OMG!!" and aggressively chucks his beef jerky to the table

To be fair, vast majority of servers had INCREDIBLY SMOOTH launch, no issues, I was even able to actually do a quest 30m in and since then play normally. Crazy stuff

I'm playing FFXIV and I never got sent back to Limsa Lominsa for entering a new area on launch.
Mankrik and the launch as a whole did outstanding. This was a "Classic experience" because people targeted Asmon's server. The making up stories whiners to go along with this video are hilarious. Everything went pretty smooth.

My experience, I log into my new main druid, get a party invite, get summoned directly to the ramparts stone, and fell off the rampart and almost died to a few 63 orcs. Then we proceed to the sloppiest ramparts run ever, followed by smooth sailing after that.
They are milking the game with remasters and nostalga

Our experience was incredibly smooth, there was some lag turning quests in, but didn't get logged out once (mandokir EU)
Fairlina was the only server having this issue, almost no lag on Grobbulus after the portal was cleared

It was actually a very smooth launch imo, comparable to shadowlands.
Lag, and the layered opening was a bit odd, but otherwise not too bad. No dcs, queues, 12 hours extended maintenance, everything went pretty smooth for me except the 300 horde camping the portal
Agreed. I don’t play on Faerlina, but Sulfuras is pretty big and it went very smoothly for me personally.

Guess I lucked out. I got through the portal with no issues except for some minor lagging once in honor hold. I just parked my toon there and logged out. Wanted to level my spacegoat while the lower levels are the same as empty.

@Front Flips Ye, because you don't read. A game developer is the company, not the worker with the job title "game developer". Blizzard does not outsource the hosting, so yes they do all the server work, yes also devs work on server related stuff depending on their expertise. you cant just buy a server, throw some game files on there and expect it to work, thats todler logic.
