THIS STORY:
Kate Townsend was a brothel madam during the late nineteenth century in the district of New Orleans that was later to become Storyville. This district became possibly the best known area for prostitution in the nation. Her luxurious brothel on Basin Street was the first of a number of upmarket brothels that the street became famed for.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Hi Ron, i found out my mother has colon cancer along with my dad, who has both colon and lung cancer, but i will be here tonight to ease my mind a bit and be with friends.
I'm so sad to hear about your mom and dad. I hope that they can receive treatment to help them.
Sorry to hear that, hopefully they’re on a path for recovery. See you tonight.
I am so sorry Amanda! Lost my dad 2 cancer 3 years ago 💔 and my mom in February!😢 just love theme you got this 👍
So Sorry to hear that. I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer in 2022 and my little brother in 2021 to COVID. He was only 34. I will keep you in my prayers to you and your family.
Will be praying for you all
All these stories helps to learn lessons and appreciate life. I am happy to see Ron back in action.
She died without repenting or anything to do with Christ , how on earth can she be resting in peace???
Yes, that’s true. ❤
New Orleans is such a city of contrasts. There’s so much unique culture and beauty, yet there’s also so much corruption and violence (past and present).
There is a house in New Orleans ,they call the Rising sun,and it's been the ruin of many poor boys, sadly I am one.
Wow that'd be a great song. You should be a song writer. Hahaha 😉😉😉 wonder if I get told?
Pete Townsend would be proud of his grandma. He would say, "Who are you?" Or, "Kate was a looker, behind blue eyes!"
Sounds like crazy Kate got what she brought on herself.
I lived in New Orleans back in 1977 for about 6 months dancing in a travesty show with Frankie Cain, I loved it!!! New Orleans is such a fantastic, mysterious, and beautiful place and very wild has the most beautiful cemeteries and such rich history. Beautiful plantations I love the story about Marie Lavou Queen of voodoo
This was a very interesting story this lady was a fatal attraction !!
Thanks for the video Ron.
This was a very interesting story
There was a house in New Orleans they called the rising sun… what a story RIP Kate and thanks Ron ❤
What a tough life. She made the choice to live that way so I guess she couldnt expect the outcome to be much better than it was. I wonder what became of her twins and if the young sailor ever knew he had those children.
Some of your descriptions of Ed being chased around has me in stitches... I could envision it....
It would take months of looking at each grave to find her, that’s a BIG Cemetery. Thanks for sharing .
One of your best Ron. Great story and great job retelling of Kate. RIP Kate. I wonder if her condition of getting obsessed with Eck was from drug use or STD.
She sounds like a tough lady! Geeze...
I'm so sorry Amanda... Be strong...
Or, don't be strong. You just be however you need to be. Your friends and loved ones will understand no matter what. It's sometimes an unrealistic pressure when well-meaning friends tell us to be strong. Just be.❤
@@janupczak1643Telling someone to be strong isn't an "unrealistic pressure" 🙄.
@@melindaroop1346 Thank you for understanding my belief about having to be strong around the very ill people. I just lost my husband and I had to remain strong for him. It does nobody any good to fall apart in front of your very ill loved ones. It wasn't easy to do... I had my harsh moments of fear and seeing my husband dying😢... I fell apart in private... That message I got stung .. I certainly didn't agree with her words of wisdom....🙄... thanks again! Now I feel better❤ 13:28
These stories of the darker side of life in the 1800s are so interesting makes a me want to learn more. Thx Ron, your stories often lead to rabbit holes for me 😊
I love two for one. Thank you so much for making my Sunday a lot more enjoyable.🇺🇸☮️🙃
Hi Ron, beautifully kept cemetery. RIP to all🙏
Anyway, Kate had a
interesting life !
May she Rest In Peace 🙌
I'm sorry I was late, don't know the time difference, I was excited thinking I'd made it for my 1st live..I'm catching up now Ron
What a story Ron. You definitely can tell these stories so that I feel like I am where these stories took place back in time. Best storyteller I know my friend. So glad your back!❤😊
Wow Ron you've got some really interesting stories lined up.
Its nice to see you back doing videos. Missed your stories.😊
Hay Ron. Such a beautiful cemetery. that's a real shame couldn't find Kate's grave. Great story. I luv listening to old stories like this thanks Ron. b safe take care. luv from the uk 🇬🇧👍❤️
Beautiful cemetery, thanks Ron❤
I couldn't help it.... it sounded like a disfunctional relationship...
What a bunch of nuts!!
Wow, Kate was a piece of work. Those kinds of places never seemed to bring anything but trouble but I'm not sure what was wrong with Ed hanging around so long well his life was being threatened. Those were some wild days. I can't believe how the police handled that murder. Like the Keystone cops lol. Ron, you never cease to amaze me at your storytelling skills. I don't know how you keep all of these names, dates, and places straight. Nobody does it like you can. So, RIP to all involved including the abandoned twins wherever they may be ❤💐
Thanks for sharing ron
Thanks Ron love this video 💓

Hi ron thank you for share this with us stay save pls 🌸🕯️🌼
Ron, you tell a wonderful story.
Love your post
it is sad that no one knows where she is😢
Ah, Liverpool. Sounds familiar. Perhaps, because four lads, with a little musical talent, were also from?
Love Sunday nights again!!!
So good to have you back. Great stories, as usual. ❤
What a story and wow what a cemetery! Thank you for sharing such interesting stories with us.
I'm so glad you're back! You are so good at telling stories! Thank you
Hello Ron. We just came from Lake Charles, LA. And we went to go visit the old city cemetery there and it is still really bad. There is an open tombstone, and we saw a skeleton. Head with teeth, femur, and legs, and some are still full of water, and some tomsbstone are covered with plastic bags. My heart goes out 💔. We love to hear your stories, always interesting 😊
What a wild story!! Noone tells these stories like you do Ron! Kate had a fancy funeral, ironic that after all that turbulence, noone knows where she's buried there. I wonder if she probably figured she might have a violent end? Great job Ron thank you ❤
Wow what a story😮
I've been MIA just life happens 😕 😢 I really love your videos!!!
I wonder if she had Syphilis, it sounds like she may have. Because (Sugar Honey Ice Tea) got bad pretty quickly for the one guy. Rest in peace everyone in the arms of our Lord. Stay safe Sir & everyone. Sending virtual hugs to you all.
In general this story was a about reinventing yourself. Kate had to do it and so do many today. Times have changed, although the past history will decide our future. Thank you, Ron! always great to see and hear from you. Take care and be safe on your travels.
Watching now it’s late but I’m here
Hi Ron...New Orleans...has quite the history good and bad..... the cemetery is very big has .old..beautiful monuments ...thanks for your dedication and passion to bring us these stories...very interesting..... Deborah 🇨🇦
Did another wonderful job ❤❤❤. Whatever happens to her twins?
Wow, sorry Amanda! ❤
Great story as always Ron. I love your history lessons they are so interesting. Sounds like politicians back then are just like today’s politicians. Nice to know some things never change. 😂🤣

Interesting story. My family is from England
Confortantion is 😅
It hot in Wisconsin today
not in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, coooold here.
Used the.panel trick while you were undressed a sliding wall would open and they'd rob your valuables from your clothes.
Good story! I had heard of her, back when I was researching Storyville. I didn't know she had a memorial in Metarie cemetery (gotta go try to find it someday!!) Kate actually predated Storyville. That wasn't enacted until 1897 and lasted until 1917 when the Army made the city close it down due to the soldiers coming over to see the women. Kat's place, at 39 Basin (now on Elk's Place, her house was made into an Elk's Lodge for a time), was just outside of the area designated for Storyville, which is between Iberville and St. Louis, Basin and S. Robertson (the street next to the cemetery St. Louis 2). Mansion Row was Basin between Iberville and St. Louis 1, on that side of the street only. Mahogany Hall, the "Octaroon Palace" of Lulu White, was at 235 Basin.
LuLu, I did an episode last year w her at St Patricks no. 2
Hey Ron, I see ur back in ur favorite state☺️. If I'm not mistaken, Anne Rice, her husband & daughter are buried in Metarie. I liked her writing.
I still think it's a spooky state.👻
Enjoi urself & be safe.
yes, I did a livestream at her mausoleum last year
Hi Ron I enjoy your posts so much I have live by cemetery most of my life and find them very interesting I'm in Circleville ohio and lived by forest cemetery and then I lived and went to school by high street cemetery they removed the head stones from it all of them are throne over the bank in the creek I'd like to tryand put them back Elvis has a mother to his maid barrier there but my family is barrier in Tarleton cemetery it's kid of old to
Amazing story Ron. You can't make this stuff up. Kate sure had a lot of weapons in her trophy case. I wonder what else she had in there. A lot of this trouble could have been avoided if Ol Ed would have left town and never looked back the first time she threatened to gut him. I know I wouldn't have hung around. She was definitely set on doing abdominal surgery on him. I wonder what ever happened to her twins?
Kate left quit a story, but karma turned the tables, and she ended up in a coffin as cold as she was.
Evidently alcohol rotted her brain for her to be so fixated on disemboweling that other person ... How odd to not be able to find her grave. She might be buried under another official name. I'm glad the wishes in her Will were honored. What a story and I do remember the ''Blue Book'' and the woman in her striped tights... Have a nice day 🙂
yep, the stripped pants!! classic photo.
Good story, i wonder if she ever kept in contact with her twins.
Buongiorno mr. Ron I just saw un tragical fact...seem exit a cemetery who was established in the early 1900s by the Borgnemouth Realty Company for African American families....that cemetery seem to rest in bad conditions after Katrina pass there in 2005. I' m not sure if it's still in that conditions today but good to check... grazie ❤
Wow, she was crazy and he was stupid for not moving lol😂😂
Big Kate has big grave.

how interesting
Poor twins. I wonder what became of them.
❤
Well if the records were almost destroyed but not, then why don't they know where she is burried? Also, can't we see /see inside this old brothel? What's there now?
The New Orleans red-light district I believe was called "Storyville".
It was I did a episode on it.
Had to be a gigalo??? lol.
One question. Why didn't Ed just leave???
Wow was this woman riddled with Syphilis? Honestly it causes severe mental changes if untreated. I'm really curious about that.
maybe!! hmmmm
Big kate
Hi
👍🏻✌🏼😊
RIP ⚘️
I would say Kate asked for it and got what she deserved.
See ya later
