I know you are putting on duals, and you will let it breathe a little better with a K-N or something similar. It's great how some of the old stuff we did in the 70's too squeeze a little more out of a car still work. Have fun with what seems to be a new toy. 👍😊
Best thing to do is buy a hpp to start with. You get the duals, gears and higher stall converter after 2001. Those things together make a huge difference
There are a few things to watch for not mentioned here as depending on how you drive may not be noticeable . Civilian could have axle ratio's from a 2.73 - 3.55, P71 is either 3.27 or 3.55. Another difference is the torque converter 11.25" and others 12". You will need to line up the catch code to match what your car has. Otherwise you at the very least could have drivability issues at worst could be looking at severe transmission and eventual engine damage to due over-revving.
No. It's not really a problem. You can absolutely use a P71 ecu with a 2.73 rear end. The computer calculates shift points based off of speed and rpm, not a theoretical final drive ratio. Using a P71 ecu is no different than using a SCT tuner to add higher shift points and more timing, etc. It's just way cheaper.

You cannot just use any PCM from a 2005. If you could find a used one with the same calibration code (it's on the sticker) it would probably work, but in 2005 they switched to a CANbus network and everything has to be programmed to work together on the network.

Hey great vid, i have a question I have a 2000 Towncar and my pcm went bad, can I just switch it out for a new one like you did or would I have to get it reprogrammed?
Yes if you can just match the code it could work, but the PATS system (your transponder keys) would have to be reprogrammed for the vehicle to run. The only reason this works is because the P71 computer does not have PATS
Without PATS the keyless entry will work. They have nothing to do with each other. The coded keys will still work because the car doesn't look for the key anymore. So you can keep using them or get cheap non chip keys cut from them and use them also.
So I put this ARA3 in my 2000 Grand Marquis, it fired right up. Only thing I notice is that the security light on the dash is blinking in some kind of code while it’s running ....like 2 flashes then 6 flashes, or vice versa. Something to worry about?
No. It is telling you that your PATS system has a malfunction. That's because it's gone. You can either ignore the light, which will stop blinking after a few minutes or unplug it under the dash panel, which will make the light stop blinking but you will loose automatic headlights too. I never use automatic headlights so I just unplugged the light.
