    Bought a 2008 brand new. Now has 393,000 miles. Have done minimal maintenance but keep the oil changed, other fluids changed, and replaced a few parts that aged. Runs great. Interior fabric only has one spot that has worn through. Great truck.

    I have a 1st gen honda ridgeline. I love this truck. Right now it's sitting at 219K miles and still going. I do most of my own maintenance. Although replacing valve cover gaskets and stuff like that I let a mechanic do that. Thanks for the video!

    I have a 2007 Honda Ridgeline. It is an awesome truck for my gardening business. I have 135,000 miles on it and hoping to get a whole lot more.
    If you are thinking of buying a Ridgeline or any other vehicle, you can ask your auto insurance company to run a check on the VIN to see if the vehicle was in any accidents or floods.

      Just sold mine. Bought it with 79k sold it with 178k never had an issue. Always started right up. The one issue which was small anyways was the radiator had a leak but not a huge deal. These trucks are god but the major flaw is the rust.

    In 2019 our Honda dealership got a 2013 Touring with 27,000 miles on in. An older lady had it and spent money on floor mats and running boards and decent tires. It came in on a Thursday night and by chance I went there on Friday morning, took one look at it and told them not to put it on the lot. It's coming home with me. Four years later, it's got 39,000 miles. Oil changes, TPM sensors, a battery, and usual maintenance. Nice truck! (I'm in Canada, so the mileage was 45K and now 65K.) We did buy a stupid useless warranty for $2800. That was a waste of money.

      Excellent find!
      I never bother with warranties on Hondas. Most of the time, things break/leak after the warranty expires or aren't covered.

    I found a set of wireless front and rear camera license plate frames at Costco with solar batteries. Works fine.

    Love my Ridgeline. I'm at 255k miles on my '06. I'm the second owner though, bought it from the original owner at about 200k miles for pretty cheap. I've had the same issues you're describing, plus my starter went out on me at 250k miles, no big deal. Also my rear bumper support bar is rotted through, super common on these and the Pilots, although sounds like since you live in the desert you probably don't have that issue though. It's a trade off, my paint is still in pretty decent shape since we don't have as much sun exposure, but we have the rust to contend with. I'd pick the paint failing over rust issues any day lol!

    • @trailcairn1717
      @trailcairn1717  2 года назад +2

      Wow, I just passed 150k miles. Yes to the desert dry heat with no rust issues but all rubber dries and cracks leading to leaks, suspension issues, dead batteries and cracked tires. I'll take the fading paint over rust 😐
      With TLC you'll get her to 400k miles!

    Love my 2007 RTL. I have had a fraction of the problems you had. My RTL has 64,000 miles and always been garaged. I did recently fix the corrosion in the quarter panels since I live in Salty Upstate NY. My fiancé installed an Xroose back up camera which works great so far with no issues.It uses a wireless antenae and the power source plugs into front 12V port of the RTL. Just recently my drive side seat heaters failed so I will looking into this shortly and also thinking about dealing the SMOD issue.

    My 2007 RTS has 246,000 k and I've had plenty of issues that had to be fixed. About 2 months ago I had oil seals, timing belt, Plugs, 2 rear calipers replaced to the tune of about 4 grand. 2 days ago when getting on the interstate I suddenly lost power, the engine started shaking and my check engine light was blinking. Was able to limp back to my mechanic. He put the diagnostic machine on it which told him that all 6 of my cylinders were misfiring. We immediately thought, timing belt. Checked it out and no problem with it. He's thinking it's probably the main control unit or brain. Still trying to figure it out. As you can tell I love my truck and will spend what I have to so it keeps running. Best vehicle I've ever owned!!

    • @trailcairn1717

      Wow, I totally understand your love for your truck. I've spent about 15 grand in last 3 years. Once it hit 13 years old, things started breaking and wearing out. It's either fix/replace parts or buy new. I don't like how poorly built new vehicles are these days. Rather keep my Ridgeline.
      Keep me posted on your cylinder misfire. I hope it won't need a replacement engine. I've heard Saturn V6 engines with low miles are the way to go.

Intermittent issues with AC. Strange issues, but the engine purrs like a kitten. Just did timing belt/water pump change, buy a recommended mechanic.. About to hit 100,000 miles on my RTL 2013 Ridgeline. Only issues I’ve had so far is engine mounts, 3rd clutch pressure sensor, and TMPS sensor. Had to do some reupholstery on the arm rest and change the cup holder plastic. I just did it my self. Great truck and it’s paid off so I’m just going to drive it until the wheels fall off.

      Haven't had engine mount issues yet, just recently got new TPMS sensors.

    • @speed_vroom6030
      @speed_vroom6030 2 года назад +2

      @@trailcairn1717 I knew the engine mounts were bad because every time the car would shift it would violently shake. When I went to look at the mounts two were cracked. Got it fixed at Firestone for around $500 because I didn’t have the tools.
      Not sure how the pressure sensor went bad but when it did it sent a code and I got a check engine light. This was super easy to fix and I did it myself. You take off the tire and the pressure sensor is right there. You just unscrew it and put the new one in and then wipe the code. I think the new sensor was $50 at O’Reillys.

    Yep radiator fittings, water pump, any seals, all fitting for suspension. brakes and pads, tires tread, check underneath the back seats for the supporting bar to check to see if it's fitting into the seat, easy fix, check underneath the carpet to see if there is water do the same thing up front of the cab to see if the sunroof is leaking. Check the locking cable for the trunk bed storage easy fix just need to look for the cable with the ball at the end that goes into the unlock on the lid of the trunk storage, just need zip ties to fix it. check for yellow tape on the cable pull back and zip tie it. Make sure if you get one get a inspection on rust too. Either don't buy that one or if it's just a little bit take care of that first.

    I have a 2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL with Navi, which I purchased new while I was an engineer at Honda R&D in Marysville, Ohio. I have done all the schedule maintenance, and I am at 202K miles. One recall that needs to be addressed is for the straps on the fuel tank. There is a corrosion recall, and the dealerships will replace/install the additional mounting bracket. Only expensive repair was for the rack and pinion steering that was leaking after hitting a pot hole on the well maintained CA roads in standing rain. The roof liner is starting to sag over the bench seat, but the 1800 dollar price tag to replace it is not feasible to me. I have addressed some of the roof liner material around the windshield myself with 3M spray adhesive. I have the tonneau cover, so I have not had any bed liner issues. I have replaced all the interior/exterior lights with LEDs and it make a huge difference to aging eyes. Headlights should be replaced, but I have been wet sanding and applying clear coat during the summer to get through the winter weather. In CA, that is called rain.....

Transmission Overheating on Summer time. ✅ i did add extra Radiator to ATF Fluid ti have fluid ti cool down the transmission. 2. Leaking underneat coming from oil drain plug ✅ i bought a oversize drain plug at Amaxon & it Fixed it. 3. Broke the Engine Pull release Tab by Oil change guy ✅ biught one in Amazon with Red Color and is tougher than OEM. Thats it. I also added ❤️ Wireless Back up camera Amazon ❤️ i lowered the spring suspension ❤️ i changed the wheel & i put BMW X 5 OEM wheel ❤️ i put LED STRIP TAIL LIGHT ❤️ i replaced tail light w/ clear lens & perfect for my Silver color RTS. ❤️ i put LED BAR LIGHT IN FRONT under Bull bar bumper. ❤️ i changed all BULBS W/ LED ❤️ i just recently put a Camber bolt adjuster to the front coz its negative camber & wore out my tires fast. ❤️ also replaced the back camber bolt adjuster. ❤️ i add a 1 inch wheel spacer bolt in type ti front & later will put one set at the back. It help in cornering when you have a wider axle. 🟪 My next project are ❌ replacing the stereo mine has more light at night. I found one on Amazon 7 ,8 or 9 inch touch screen w/ carplay ❌ putting a Blue LED WARNING LIGHT if trunk or tailgate is Open. Coz last i drop my Luggauges from Airport coz no Warning that the tailgate is closed completely. ❌ LED BACKLIGHT w/ switch On & Off for those driver behind me Blinding me w/ their Highbeam light.
    So far i love my RIZLINE “ thats my plate no. “ A/C still works since i got it last 2008. I will keep this truck & take good care of it so she will take of me.

    Hello from mother Russia! I drive 2005 RTL and its just great. We dont have that much heat over here, but we do have low temperatures sometimes - and that surprisingly caused one problem with my Ridgeline. When the temperature drops fast enough, dropping like from + 5 C to -10 C at least (14-15 F) my central lock acts wierd - it can even close all doors shut when the car is runinng if you leave the car and close the door. But when its not cold outside this problem vanishes. I guess Ill have to dive deep into my drivers door to replace the actuator. Speaking of back-camera - there are handles for trunk door with a mounted camera for Ridgeline - mine is connected to my 2din audio-system and helps a lot when parking!

      It does get very cold here in the desert in wintertime (20 F). I haven't had an issue with door lock mechanism, but am having issues with CV or Axle as front end shakes when driving 70 mph on highway. I have had my new tires balanced but still have heavy vibration.

      As for your timing belt and water pump replacement service, due to the age of your truck, I recommend having it done soon. The belt is 15 years old. I have had some of the same issues but its still runs great, have 2 areas getting rust so thinking of having it repaired, cheaper then 45-50K on a new one. Also 2 other issues, the plastic pulleys that raise the rear seat bar will break, the replacements are metal (Mine went I still have to do) and in my case the tailgate only is dropping down not opening sideways (Another reason its at the dealer, the part for the latch is coming tomorrow)

    I just replaced the AC hose on my 2006 Ridgeline which was leaking refrigerant oil. I thought it was a power steering hose because it smells like oil.😂. That costs me about $500 at my trusted auto repair shop. Now my problem is mpg. The average is only 14 mpg that is not good. Does anyone have suggestions on how to improve it? The truck only has 120k but the bad thing is most of them are local mileages. I am thinking about replacing oxygen sensors since I cleaned up the throttle body and MAP sensor but that didn't help.

Luckily a rock took out my radiator for me. SMOD issue- more salt belt issue. ALL Hondas- when they get old enough the roof weld seam sealer under the trim cracks and water can leak in.

Once Gen 2 came out and I was sorely disappointed with the looks, I bought a 2013 used which now has 150,000. I can never say enough good about the Gen 1's and my biggest fear/concern is what am I going to do when the time comes to replace #2. I would be quite happy never driving another vehicle/style ever again.

      450k is commendable. Sorely disappointed with G2 is an understatement. I'm also wondering what I'm going to own/drive once I have to retire my 2007 or when someone else retires it for me.
      I recently test drove a Passport suv but just don't feel it. I got back into my Ridgeline and smiled all the way home 😃

    Have a 2006 RTL... now have some clunking noise up front only when driving off road thru my backyard... wondering if it's sway bar links or struts 169k miles
    Changed radiator about 5 to 6 yrs ago deer hit. Front side AC line leak, replaced myself, PS whine noise changed one top seal not the bottom yet
    Window regulator on rear pass door failed... third brake light still out...
    Typical exhaust heat shields rattle and rust off... recent 3 nuts came off holding center exhaust resonator like device to flange back... I used 2 split flange and gasket to reconnect as bolts were too rusted for nuts
    Navigation died yrs ago, never replaced... have had some fluke with high beams switch turning off lights completely at night... not sure if switch or something else but it's random

    • @trailcairn1717
      @trailcairn1717  2 года назад

      Front end clunking is probably sway bar links. I had mine replaced around 148k miles. My PS whine was the high pressure line and o-ring seals.
      Sounds like you're really handy with the truck! I wonder if your 3rd break light is just the bulb.
      I haven't had issues with rust as I'm in the dry desert.
      I'm hoping not to have window problems. My RTL didn't come with NAV...I just use my cellphone or Garmin.
      High beam issue with 2006 seems to be a relay switch. Not sure if low or high beam switch. She keeps on going!!!

    Given where you live, perhaps you should consider painting the RL white; I know that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but I think the RLs look great in white. If mine had been available in white, I would have gone that way. Regarding replacing the radiator: SMOD would be a disaster, so why not do as some recommend and bypass the radiator-tranny cooling circuit by simply connecting the tranny to radiator input line and the radiator to tranny output lines? Supposedly this has a negligible effect on the tranny and could save one the cost of a new transmission. I haven't done the latter, but am considering it.

    • @trailcairn1717
      @trailcairn1717  2 года назад

      Hi Daryl, I'm definitely considering painting her white, my favorite Ridgeline color. Unfortunately black was only color available when I bought her.
      I already replaced the radiator, not just do to SMOD, but because it had sprung a leak and needed replacing. Due to summer temperatures here and that I drive to high elevation, sometimes 12,000 feet, I cannot bypass the cooler.
