This 10 Year Old Honda Ridgeline Has Features that New Trucks Don't | Start Up & Drive Why to Buy!

  • Hey Everyone! So we just got this older Honda Ridgeline in at the store and I was excited to see some of the cool features that it has. I'd say a few of these options still don't come on the newer trucks that are sold here in America like Chevy's, Ford's, Rams etc. The real question I ask is will you give the Ridgeline a Pass or a Go if you were considering buying a truck? After I spent some time with this truck I started to realize its pretty capable of doing most things you would need a truck to do. Now if you're looking for a towing capacity over 5000 this won't be for you, but Honda's V6 with 4x4 should get the job done in most cases depending on what your looking to do.
If you're interested in buying this Honda Ridgeline feel free to give me a call at SMC at (843)277-2983. Come visit our store at 4252 Rivers Ave N. Charleston, SC 20405
Make sure to Like, Comment and Subscribe for more great reviews here on CCV!!!

My 2011 Honda Ridgeline RTL has 130,000 miles and is still going strong! I stay ahead of the maintenance and take great care of it. Still looks amazing. BTW- I can haul 2 dirt bikes, 2 large gear bags, awning, chairs and 2 bike stands with the tailgate down and a moto net. Also, 2 small coolers and tool box in the cab with the back seats up. Took a while to get it down, but now 15 minutes to load all of that.

I have an 08, my transmission went out right after 100k miles, got that fixed and it overheated once then the radiator blew up because of the plastic getting brittle from age and over heated again trying to make it home. I got the radiator changed and now it works great, didnt blow the head gasket. Ive used it to tow quite a bit and close to capacity, up steep hills too, probably why the transmission gave out early. Its a great truck with decent power for what it is. Took it offroad with a 2” lift and does pretty well. Now i got a new silverado with a diesel engine to do heavier hauls but i held on to my ridgeline for taking the trash to the transfer station and small trips to the store and some offroad trips, i cant give it up, it served me well and continues to do so, il gonna repaint it, fix it up, and keep it until it cant be driven anymore

Thanks for the video! There are a few more features some folks like - e.g., with rear seats up, a trail bike's tires fit in the floor groove. The VTM-4 traction helps in slippery conditions (but works only in 1, 2 3 and R - not in Drive).
Here's my experience. In 2019, I bought a used 2012 Ridgeline (assembled in Alabama) for CA$15K with almost the same model/trim as in the video - cloth seats, no nav system, no roof racks. Came with 188,000 Km on it; now has 235,000Km (146,000 mi.) and still going strong. Being in Ontario Canada, I have spare steel rims with winter tires, and got it undercoated against the salt used on highways. My prior Ridgeline was a used 2006 (assembled in Ontario) I bought at 150,000Km and sold at 254,000Km - The transmission had developed a ticking sound. (only because I drove it a few miles too long with the fluid leaking out.)
Also the rear cross-member under the tailgate rusted out - Honda has recently issued a recall. This may not be a problem in the US South. Here, we can just rust-proof against it.
Ideal configuration for my wife and me, who have a cottage (i.e., need modest carrying & towing capacity) and occasionally have passengers who need leg room (which is more than in other compact trucks).
A friend has a 2008 with 400,000KM and says she will maintain & keep it 'forever' because she likes it so much better than the new style.

PS - it won Motor Trend Truck of the year in debut year 2006 …. And a tip for Ridge owners who do not know - put the key in the door lock and turn it right and hold to put all windows down, opposite way to put them back up and lock veh. I use this often to cool the truck down before putting my dogs in during the summer. (And replace the one cheap washer in the radiator asap if you haven’t done so!)

He forgot something. I have a 2010 Ridgeline. If you press and hold the key button down it'll automatically roll down all the windows. Its a nice feature. We often spent the day at the zoo with the vehicle sitting out in 90 degree weather. It can get close to 200 degrees inside of that truck. To cool it down quicker I simply roll down the windows as soon as we get in key fob range of the truck. Another thing the window feature is useful for. With the rear seats folded upright and the back fully loaded, I can literally fit more things in the back that won't fall out by rolling down the windows and placing them inside, I roll them back up by the drivers window controls. I use the feature again to removing items before opening the doors when I get home.
Some versions of the truck has covered side ports in the truck beds with plug ins for conventional electrical items. Great for tail gate parties or construction workers. who need to charge batteries. Some have auto start, which I really don't need where I live because there is seldom a warm up needed.
My vehicle also has a spring helper option for towing or hauling heavy loads. I do haul river rock for new pens for my water fowl and its' come in handy to have. If I use an extension out of the towing port I can fit one or two more bales of straw for my birds. With the spring helper option I could add a trailer anytime one is needed.
I keep my fluids changed and my filters clean to prolong engine, differential, and tranny life. But I do that with all of my vehicles. Our homes are our biggest investments and our vehicles are our second biggest investments with major appliances being in third place. It pays to always maintain our vehicles for their longevity. . My Ridgeline still drives like an SUV instead of a rattly older truck.
If I'm not using my tonneau cover and it rains heavy the trunk can get full of water. I just open the plug in the trunk and leave it open. The truck looks really sharp with the tonneau cover, and it helps to keep groceries hidden if I have to run inside another store on my way home from the grocers. Yes I could use the trunk, but that would require cleaning the thing, which I don't. I have seen other Ridgeline owners fill the trunk compartment with Ice and beverages. The drain port is great for dumping residual ice water! That hidden trunk is a great place to hide presents in if it's not leaking rainwater or snow melt. I put my gifts into plastic contractor bags just to be safe. Kids are nosy when it comes to gifts. There just aren't enough hiding places. This is one of the good spots! It's locked and requires the key. If you ever have a problem with the trunk not opening once you get it opened (use a long tool through the drain port and a flashlight to push the safety release) make sure the metal line with the ball on the end is seated correctly in the locking mechanism. It can get knocked out of alignment if you use your trunk a lot. That safety release lever inside of the trunk is just in case someone would get locked in the trunk. With the tailgate up even that emergency latch isn't going to save anyone. At least the drain port would prevent asphyxiation if it's open.
The VTM-4 is a fabulous option and helped get me out of icy conditions more than once when traveling up north, but it's also great for mud slicks down south. If there's icy patches on a road the VTM-4 is the way to go! Between the VTM-4 and snow tires in the winter up north this truck can traverse almost anything when everyone else is getting stuck on heavy snow days. I used to use a heavy logging chain and pull my neighbors out of the snow banks We always had to hurry before the snow plows came. How does one hurry with that much snow piled up and super cold weather? .I live in the wonderful south now and love every minute of it. Only enough snow for the Holidays and I'm happy. I'm getting to old to be shoveling sidewalks and digging out cars. I never had to dig out my truck though. It simply plowed right through snow banks!
Aside from regular maintenance of brakes and fluid changes the only repairs I've had to do on my 2010 is the starter and then the alternator that went next, and of course it fried the older battery(but it was due anyway) But that's not bad for a well performing truck. If you ever get all sorts of idiot lights going off, check to see if you have a flat tire, or almost flat tire. It seems to cure such ailments.
Also too if you are installing your own seat covers of the fancy durable washable kind. Pick a cold day. Put the covers one or two at a time in your dryer to heat them up "just a few minutes". It makes them more pliable and stretchy and the cold seats are at their tightest smallest (albeit a fraction ) size. Install seems to work better and faster.
Make sure you know where you vehicle was made. One battery disconnect and your vehicle will need a radio reset. No one placed the radio codes anywhere in the vehicle. I could not get the codes to work off of the internet. That's because my vehicle was made in Canada with different codes! Corporate Honda customer service does have people who can look up your codes with your VIN number.Write that code in paint inside of your glove compartment so you'll always have it or when you sell it the next owner will also. Another note : there are different shades of paints for Canadian manufactured vehicles. If you need touch up paints you'll need an exact match with your VIN. I hope you enjoy your ridgeline as much as I enjoy mine. It's been my favorite vehicle since the day I bought it, and I'm hoping it'll last me until I go to walk with Jesus.

I’m pretty sure the ridgeline will be my next vehicle. After my current pick up dies. It will do all the stuff I need to do. But it’s not a truck. Frame and suspension makes it not a truck in my eyes. It’s a SUV with the back end cut off.

The definition of a truck has nothing to do with frame and suspension, you people trip me out. If it has a bed and a tailgate and can haul at least 4 or 5 thousand pounds then it is a truck period

The Ridgeline has a a boxed frame, ya know, like a truck. It's not just an SUV with the back lopped off.

My 2008 has 151000 miles bought in 2010. Always maintained regularly. Watch for instrument cluster to start blinking. But easy enough to replace. Catalytic converter replaced in 2022. Headliner replaced in 2023. Now off to paint and body to fix a few dings and scratches. Then to line x for recoating composite bed liner. Has hauled collision center parts , gardening supply’s, grandkids and fur kids. Looking for another 151000 miles out of it. Yea it’s that good.

Sorry, Friend, Friend. I was out of town in the State of Washington on business. I saw this Honda Ridgeline and HAD to look at it; 2013 4WD; leather interior; upgraded Navagation System (which I don't know the code; so I'm working on that); ALL the bells and whistles, meantime, it had $57,000 miles on it! I bought it for $25,000. I can't say enough about my Ridgeline. I work alone a lot in my vehicle so I wanted to be safer. This takes the "cake". Ladies, if you have children, drive alone by yourself; this Ridgeline is for you! Beautiful; oh, it's a Hawaiian Blue. Oh yeah, I don't have a "donut" for a spare. I have the original tire that is on the truck itself. Good luck everybody. Own a Ridgeline!!!

😂 sorry dude it's not a truck it's an El Camino SUV top reason's for this 1 biggest 1 is it's not leaf springs it's rear coils can't handle anymore weight in that bed then a SUV trunk this reduces the trailer payload reason 2 very limited trailer weight payload towing capacity reason 3 the bed is to short to conveniently carry 8 ft lumber or materials without the tail gate down very inconvenient reason 4 its all time AWD with 4WD 4 wheel lock not a rear wheel drive with real 4x4 more to break an more expensive to fix now would this vehicle be perfect for a contractor only carrying his tools to site everyday yes it has perfect storage setup for this purpose but that doesn't make it a real truck it's a Swiss army knife sport utility vehicle hence SUV 😂 I own a 2008 ridgeline I've also had Chevy an Ford 1/2 an 1/4 tonnes an driven 3/4 an 1 tonnes too for reference

Rides exceptionally well because of Unibody design and Rear Independent Suspension. Great highway ride.

EZ to service yourself, unlike some Ford and GM vehicles. The Japanese are four steps ahead of American auto makers. My 2010 Ridgeline has been dependable for 94.000 miles and 12 years. Only problem I had was a Transmission valve sensor.
