    i started as a dc9 co pilot DTW base in 97 and worked my way to the 747-200 in 04 then transitioned to the 400 series in 2007 after the 200s retired, currently I am a captain on the new airbus a350s for delta. Thank you for producing a nice piece of history for northwest airlines i will never forget the wonderful memories this airline gave me along with a fresh start to my career.

    I was hired by NWA in 1991 and was working in BOS when this was filmed! Talk about a blast from the past! Just looking at how "old school" everything was! Departure boards, those airplane seats! The single large screen at the front of the cabins! WOW! I also was trained at the original DTW airport - worked in the concourse that was called the "Meat Grinder". What a memory that was.

      Wow, I'm sure that it was. I've done alot of traveling and flying myself through the years. A couple of examples on Northwest in the 90s, I remember flying a Northwest DC10 from London Gatwick to Minneapolis, and another time flying a Northwest 747 from Seattle to Tokyo Narita. One time in the 80s, I flew a NW 747 from Boston to London. To my recollection, in the 1980s NW flew their 747s to London, but in the 1990s they went and put most of their 747s onto their trans-Pacific routes to Asia and put DC10s onto most US to London/US to Europe routes.
      I think Continental did the same thing because in the early 90s I flew Houston to London on a Cont. 747, and later in the 90s I flew Houston to London on a Cont. DC10

      "How old school everything was"... like when women actually looked like women. I was fortunate enough to have arrived and departed from the "meat grinder" concourse in the late 1990s. The DC-10 was one if my favorite aircraft to fly in. I was blessed to have flown on:
      American Airlines DC-10
      British Caledonian DC-10
      Continental Airlines DC-10
      Hawaiian Airlines DC-10
      Lufthansa DC-10
      I miss the roaring sounds of those engines during take off.

      One thing I remember about Northwest was their breakfast service; they had the best at that time. I think they called it a la carte service, and they had a selection of cereal, bananas, bagels, muffins, and yogurt. On longer flights, I think they had a breakfast sandwich choice too. It was a really good product, and passengers really liked it. I also liked their 1990s image; they're corporate logo and branding was top-notch. They're uniforms were very professional, but stylish. They stood out from the other airlines really well.

      Why.???

    • @keezeeroots5997
      @keezeeroots5997 8 месяцев назад

      Same here for sure. For me, flying in the 1970s was the most exciting because it was free...parents paid lol. Flying back then was an event that you would happily dress up for. The excitement of heading to the airport to get on a plane was such a joyous feeling. Why? Because back then, the airlines were proud of their brand and the quality of their onboard services. Unlike today, the airlines focus more on profits instead of quality and comfort.
      Back then, every US airline had a very unique decor in their cabins. For example, back then the cabin of a TWA 727 looked much different than the cabin of a Braniff 727. It was all about uniqueness and style. Unlike today, most of the US airlines all look and feel the same. There isn't any more uniqueness and flavor.
      Back then there was a different vibe. You knew the flight attendants were genuine when they would welcome you on board. And that's because their main job next to safety, was to make sure you felt welcomed and comfortable, enjoying your experience with them. Today, the main focus of a flight attendant seems to be enforcing the rules. The quality of the food they served onboard was so much better back then, it was served on real plates and the presentation was more appealing. Unlike today, if you are (un?)fortunate to get served a meal, it is presented as if it comes from a school cafeteria. How the times have changed. So yes, this is why I would love to go back to the old days of flying...on the DC-9s, DC-10s, L1011's, and 727's. I miss those roaring, earth-shaking engine sounds. Peace!!

      So true,your story, i think its al to blame to the low cost airlines, because all bigger airlines had make tickets cheaper and that made the service go down 😢
      You can see thee B 777 is made for 9 seats from side to side , but al lot of airlines made there seats so small so they putt 10 seats from side to side.... so bad and small seats☹️☹️☹️

      Yeah, I remember flying from Boston to London on Northwest once in the 1980s, it was a 747. I don't really remember specific terminals now since it was a while ago.
      I remember in 1995 being on a Northwest London to Minneapolis flight on a DC10, and got an upgrade to first class, it sure made the 8 hour flight better. And if you remember in the mid 90s, only first class sections had a personal TV per seat, the economy section only got to watch something when shown on the big screen on the middle wall. So I was really stoked by my own TV with a choice of several channels that was pulled out of the wide armrest, and those wider seats which reclined further back, and fine dining cuisine instead of those economy TV dinners

    • @keezeeroots5997
      @keezeeroots5997 8 месяцев назад

      Flying in a DC10 in 1992 wasn't bad at all. Most incidents involving the DC-10 were the result of poor maintenance by the airline or pilot error and these incidents occurred mainly in the 1970s. By the 1990s, the DC-10 had proven herself to be a safe aircraft, although not too economical for the airlines. The praise should actually go to all those brave passengers who flew in the DC-10 back in the 1970s.
