You know... If George simply had the discipline to finish this build rather than obsess over being THE biggest game, Duke Nukem would probably still be famous rather than infamous...
The crazy thing is this game was way ahead of the times. Even if it launched 2 years after it was shown off in 2001 it would still be the first to do lots of crazy tech.
It's especially odd since Duke had always been just a little behind the times technically. Duke 3D kept pace with 3D games like Quake basically by sheer chutzpah, and this build certainly had that.
Even the first two games showed that as well, coming out at a time when the PC platform was massively underpowered compared to consoles and arcade machines.
This is like going to a restaurant, sitting down and after three an a half hours they bring you an unwrapped, cold burger from the McDonalds across the street. Then, weeks later, you find out the Chef was originally preparing Filet Mignon for you but right before it was done the owner of the restaurant threw it into the dumpster because he didn't like the garnish, fired the chef, and then promoted a busboy to take his place. It would have hurt less to have just thought it was always going to be shit.
14:24 Besides what's already been said about this version of the EGO system... notice how it drops (pretty heavily) when Duke kills an innocent. Not too obtrusive, but it's a really effective way to remind people that Duke does, in fact, have a heart. Actions speak louder than words, and something you feel in gameplay is even louder.
And I think it still gets boosts from playing with stuff in the world like Balls of Steel pinball, pool and killing enemies, with weaker guns giving you more health back Manhattan Project style, besides just eating food and using health packs. This is exactly what I wanted the 2011 version's ego metre to be, with ego boosting activities not losing their gameplay benefit after doing them once. The only thing missing is Ego serving as armour with regular Duke health ala 3D and Advance underneath, Halo 1 health & shields style but that's OK because Manhattan Project did Ego first and Halo 1 wouldn't be out for months back then.
When Civvie killed "George", EGO got both reduced and boosted. Was a creep but also an unarmed guy that probably didn't need a .50 AE shaped hole. Orrrr Duke kinda felt bad for him but then he remembered he was a creep that did need a .50 AE shaped hole.
This duke nukem looked like Doom 3 the amazing map that caught me of guard was the hive...............look at that thing is a real masterpiece of a level!!!!!!!! Except for those women they putted there in the shadows!!!!!!!! That was so hard to watch!
If the og DNF was released, the Duke Nukem series would be in a better state than even Doom nowadays, shame it had an ambitious perfectionist leading the project
You know, you guys who keep posting replies hating on checkmark comments are just as bad as the people who like their comments 'solely for name recognition' Attention is attention, good or bad. Also, the "checkmark" folks are still people allowed to enjoy things, idiots.
I think the truly ironic thing at the end of the day is that if all broussard wanted was to make a game to give half-life a run for its money graphically and fraturewise, he wouldve succeeded. So much of this build has stuff years ahead of things we'd pin on HL2 for innovating, but it wasn't enough...
It's insane that a janky unreleased demo build still feels more complete than the finished game. It really highlights that games can be amazing if the team that's working on it actually gives a shit about what they're doing.
its like with all products.. if the engineers , workers etc gets to work with the customers in mind even crap can turn out ok.. if the fat slugs upstairs that cares more to spend as little as possible to get into other peoples wallets rather then work an honest days living starts stick their greasy fingers into the workshop design documents.. even gold becomes crap :/
This is why I have so much hope for the restoration project. Just this build alone showing so much charisma in an unfinished state means that a final product will stomp ass.
That strip club scene actually had a purpose in the actual story and leaed to a cool trap, ambush and escape, this makes so much more sense, how would you lure Duke into a trap? Exactly like that it's been reduced to a filler dream in the finished game what the fuck lol
The club location and main story beats (such as saving one of the girls from a rapey perv) were reused in The Doctor Who Cloned Me without the trap at the end. Why it was removed in the main game in favour of the meh dream sequence I don’t know.
We've certainly had occasions where Duke had to rescue Babes (Duke Nukem: Manhatten Project) or was simply a womanizer. It's fitting that the aliens would actually use such a thing to exploit Duke. This games setting was so promising. I fully agree with Civvies sentiments; it was better when Duke was part of the world instead of being the world.
The strip club dream actually still had a purpose in the last storyline document before the "Cutting is Shipping". The stripper there, like in this build, was supposed to be Bombshell, though instead of her luring Duke into a trap, it would've meant something else. But yeah, thanks to "cutting is shipping", it got turned into filler as Bombshell got replaced with Dylan, and the striper replaced with a generic one.
@@Savayone I wonder if that was Bombshell's introduction and we needed to convince her to join forces or something after the trap. Maybe it was like the compactor in Half Life crossed with the cut HL1 version of Judith Mossman (for want of a better name for that sequence). Shelly could have been annoyed Duke was killing her men, not realising they were infected or was worried he was infected himself and not showing it. Or she was infected herself and Duke found a way to cure her from the Thing monster stuff, at which point she joins our side.
It’s a travesty that this game was never released. The amount of time, effort and love that went into this build is nuts. Could have really made an impact on the FPS genre as a whole
The thing thats cool is that this likely isn't how much the game was worked on. This is the 2001 version of the game. what they told to news media implies that the 2002 build was MUCH more finished. Pretty much up to the final level was much more playable than this build.
13:12 agreed, the entire duke 3d world was seedy and gritty, even up to some of the music in the game ("gotham" comes to mind), he was the comedic relief to all that, and that's why it worked nicely
Compare and contrast DNF to Half-Life 2 or Doom 2016: two other FPS sequels that are famous for hyping up the player character as a legendary hero. HL2 has your character getting hyped up by Barney & treated as a serious threat by the Combine, but the player's been stuck as an unarmed civilian getting kicked around by asshole cops and relying on others to save you. You feel lost and uncertain at first, literally being chased through sewers like a rat. By the end of the game you ARE the legendary hero everyone said you could be, and the game's given you numerous opportunities to prove that. Doom 2016 starts with the hero tearing apart manacles with their bare hands, demolishing their foes, and generally being an unstoppable badass. The PC has already proven their credentials by the time the game starts hyping them up as The Ultimate Hero. I haven't played DNF so I can't speak for it firsthand.
@@Ninjat126 in the final DNF the 2011 version basically you spend the first like 30 minutes just fucking around (sometimes literaly) and just doing stupid shit until you get to actually fight monsters, it kind of works taking into account what they were going for the game were duke basically stopped fighting bad guys after saving the planet and started to go under and had to prove that he still got what its needed to save the world, but yeah
It's pretty much why Saints Row lost its edge too, when the devs turned the entire game world into a parody of itself it just wasn't as funny as before.
Suprisingly, the Leak is still better and more full of personality than dnf2011. You can blame randy for dnf2011, but blame George Bussard for not getting the original game finished. Gotta thank cv11 for still covering the leak despite always keeping in mind that "dead is better", so, he lets more people know of the leak. Got nothing to say, i just like this video alot.
@@hollyc5417 Not strickly true. Alot of the story was re-written when it came to gearbox ((which is why it has new writers credits)), alot of the weird eyebrow raising crap really was added by gearbox with randy's ok. 3D realms were polishing and then repolishing what you see here... and the story / flow is alot better.
@@CrashHeadroom What eyebrow raising crap would that be? The vast majority of it is standard Duke Nukem humour. Either way, people weren't complaining about the story, but the final released version of the game, which is still 99% 3D Realms.
@@markobighead3173 Nope. It was rewritten by some gal at GBX when they tried to salvage maps into a coherent plot. Yeah, the storyline was roughly written by 3D Realms, but GBX filled the blanks. And that's exactly where the misogynistic jokes came in.
You can't blame Randy for anything involving DNF 2011....The only person who you can blame is George who was too busy wasting millions of 3D Realm's dollars till they had none, then wasting millions of 2Ks dollars to the point that 2K was ready to sue 3D Realms.....He was obsessed with making Duke Nukem into Modern Warfare The only thing Gearbox had to do with the release of DNF was, 2K and George talked to Randy about Gearbox staff helping 3D realms take the work they had, polish it up, get it to a state that it could actually be released...Randy/Gearbox didn't make anything for DNF.
10:42 God damn it. I'm too simple of a man. The fact that the enemy takes over the animation of pointing at the door, trying to make Duke open it for him, made me laugh too hard.
Hahaha I was also creeped out at the same time....like imagine you saw that in real life...after murdering someone it waves to you all happy like. yikes!....and I love that it wants you to open the door so it can kill you next but is pretending to be sooooo "nice''
There is a whole different timeline where this game comes out ahead of Halo, ahead of Half Life 2 and ahead of the ludicrous trend chasing that dogged the DNF we actually got.
People would have still been disappointed in the game because the expectations were so high. That's what took so long to release it. People romanticized the idea of it instead of seeing it for what it was; a cheesy game, based on sexism, ultra-violence, and a stereotypical 90's macho white male protagonist. The game was "Doomed" to fail because it released in the age of "woke politics" and WWII games galore.
10:43 Holy shit, that zombie asking you to open the door is genuinely funny, and a nice parody of HL1. Did Gearbox *deliberately* go through this and strip out anything remotely decent, fun, or entertaining? I'm getting salty just watching this and thinking about what we could have had. Also, I want to think that 20:11 would have played Great Big Sea's "Donkey Riding." If not, some modder needs to make that happen.
If you forgive me playing devil's advocate for a moment, this was not only (likely) already cut when Gearbox picked up the publishing rights, this was (likely) already cut _many years_ before they picked up the publishing rights. You gotta understand, DNF 2011 was not a totally new project that Gearbox started after 3D Realms ceased work, it was simply what was actually finished by the time 3DR stopped that Triptych Games (or whatever they were called) the remnants of the DNF team were able to salvage and turn into an actual game. Trying to turn it into an actual _good_ game was not in the cards unless Gearbox (and the fans) was willing to give them another few years or something, which wasn't going to realistically happen.

@@revalution1965 Obviously other games have used this version, but the ones we have were released without the dev tools used to make the games or the source code used to the actual engine. Now with the leak, we have authentic source code of the engine and the dev tools used to design the levels that were once thought loss to time. Usually with old games people have to make wrappers and basic patches for them, but with this community devs can directly edit the code to fix issues as well as potentially finishing the game or even making a new game with the basis there.
In the comparatively milder .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum chamberings, the Desert Eagle has pretty mild recoil, but with .50 Action Express it's pretty damn brisk, yet Duke controls that beast like it's nothing.
There's quite a number of .50 caliber cartridges even, .50 GI, .50 Action Express, .500 Wyoming Express, .500 Linebaugh, .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum, .50 Beowulf, .50 Alaskan, etc, etc. In addition to the most famous .50 Browning Machinegun cartridge (12.7x99mm), there's the Eastern Block equivalent, the 12.7x108mm, which does the exact same thing.
Ya know this could easily come out nowadays if they released it completely as a full game. Boomer shooters are on the rise again and are having a bit of a Renaissance. This would be perfect since it'd be the first "AAA" boomer shooter on a older engine and actually fit a certain time period and not try to simulate it.

I don’t know man, Unreal Engine 1 is apparently notoriously difficult to work with, which is a major reason for why the game’s development was so difficult.
Honestly the second-best timeline is the one where Gearbox saw the 2010 build they were handed, realized that it was unusable and that sometimes you have to cut your losses, and buried the project so deep that even the people who unearthed this build couldn't find it.... and then this build still got leaked anyway, possibly only a year or so later. The thing about DNF 2011 is that Duke comes across as mean and cruel, and it reaches maximum "ehhhh" with the fate of the Twins and Duke's quip in the aftermath. And to be fair a lot of that stuff was present by the 2008 design document, but it seems to me that 3D Realms, or the people who were working there by 2008 had never played Duke 64 or Zero Hour. They had no concept of the more sympathetic Duke found in those two games -- who is still true to the spirit of Duke, but is more of an overt anti-hero, kicking ass and taking names and saving babes. That version of Duke is what they needed to look to. Duke as a babe saver was introduced by the N64 games, and it's a genius flourish. But when you play Zero Hour and then DNF 2011 back to back, the whiplash is horrible. N64 Duke is a blowhard, narcissistic charmer. It doesn't matter why he saves the babes. His personal flaws fade away. That he saves them is what makes him on the side of the angels. DNF 2011 Duke is a selfish, cruel prick that for no apparent reason finds the suffering and death of women entertaining. As an aside, various teams are currently working on fixing and (perhaps) finishing the game. The source code was included with the build, which is allowing a lot of progress to be made.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves Zero hour. At the beginning it also showed Duke being more intelligent than he lets on when he talks about temporal disruptions.
@@luichinplaystation610 ? I don't see how that has anything to do with this discussion. Duke being an out and out prick in DNF 2011 has nothing to with wokeness

the cartridge is refered to as .50 Action express or .50 AE for short. the caliber just dictates the diameter of the projectile. when most people hear 50 caliber they usually think of .50 BMG which you would never fit in an autoloading pistol. my preferred 50 caliber round though is S&W .500 magnum. ya know. for when there's an intruder. hiding behind the refrigerator. at your neighbors house.
It's amazing how much content was completed, and then scrapped in the years that followed. They had a huge gem, years before Far Cry, Doom 3, and Half-Life 2, and didn't know it. Somewhere out there is also a mid to late 90's Quake-engined incomplete Duke Nukem Forever, that would be great to see as well.
The Quake 2 version never made it far: the E3 1997 trailer was essentially all they had and it was all stuff made for the event. The Quake 1 screenshots that appeared earlier were mock ups made while 3D Realms was waiting for id to deliver the final code of the Quake 2 engine.
Seeing this build shows that 3D Realms had a big, ambitious title they were gonna release back in the 00's, but didn't because George didn't think it would good enough. You can also see all the corners that got cut. Good corners too.
it's interesting to me that 3D Realms became so obsessed with being so technically distinct from its competition when it started it's life seeing eye to eye with Doom II. I mean, they definitely put more attention to detail into the environments, and they brought their own sense of humour and charm into the mix, but for the top brass to get so up their ass about the engine they were using just seems so out of character... that said i don't really know jack shit about the management structure of 3D Realms before that point, so maybe the Build Engine Duke Nukem games were all just a fortunate series of flukes
"You can use the level select to go to any level that's here" Well... Not exactly. Lots of them are selectable in there, but there's a few *hundred* map files you can load using the console. 16:26 - I've just realized - the lens flares here are flipbooks. Each lens flare is not a static image, but an atlas of frames and the flare's position on screen determines which frame of the animation is used. That's a pretty cool idea, I've never seen something like this done before!
It is odd how the flare sprite as it were appears behind the motorbike's first person model. Also a bit too large for a level going past many lights on a road in that space of time, quite strobe-like.

@@chavesa5 I was 11 that year! I was hyped for DNF and this demo is just like I was imagining it. It could of been the game that make Duke Nukem really mainstream, but maybe not also. And yeah, I remember Halo all too well, the best console shooter at the time, with Perfect Dark
I love that when you shoot the prospector, his glasses and hat stay in place, hovering in the air like it's a Looney Tunes cartoon. I know it's probably a bug but it's funny AF and should be a feature. I'm glad this build was finally leaked and a team has decided to properly finish it so that we can finally get the DNF we deserved. It's just a shame that it took so long to happen.
There's an unmatched feeling of dread and horror that comes from playing unfinished games like this and the Half-Life 2 beta maps in the dark in the middle of the night
playing beta versions, and playing outright unreleased games are different, but yes. on one hand, the HL2 beta feels weird and eerie is because you've grown attached to retail HL2 so much that this is a completely new experience where the base feels familiar, but the shell surrounding it is very unstable, worked around and rough. it's a really majestic feeling
25:30 It's (was) 2001 and we have Judith Mossman 3 years early. Possibly inspired by the cut female scientist betrayal scene from Half Life 1 and/or Helena Mossman in the Half Life 2 beta, whose script might well have been in the planning stages at this point. (most likely the former)
Just to be clear, none of the levels featured in the campaign of DNF 01 were "made specifically for the trailer." They were made for the single player game. There are pieces that were polished substantially and cut out specifically for the trailer, and they're actually in their own folder.
It's really interesting how much Duke Nukem: Zero Hour audio content exists in this build. Many EDf lines like "Cocked, locked and ready to rock, Duke!" for example.
Strangely, the early version of the Randy version of Duke Forever featured the Shades Operating System. Decided to look up the footage of shown on the Jace Hall show and there it was, back when that version looked fun. That old version even allowed you to hold every weapon in the game.
I think you could also still see the jet pack in use in single player still in that footage as well. Something you never get in the released version. So much was cut.
Whoever did this, thank you for the early birthday gift. I hope that we'll get another Duke Nukem game someday. As for this build, I say "let the fans and modders have their fun." Whatever they do, please god give him some sunglasses.
Watching it again now. I honestly think I've watched your whole catalogue three or four times, and it just never gets old. You single handedly revamped my whole passion for older FPS games, and retro games in general to be honest. Thanks cause it's been a ride playing these new "Oldschool" titles. I'm playing through "Hedon" now. ROTT is next.
In 22:14 I don't think the surface is actually reflecting the light. Basically, what they did was, they made the floor a bit transparent and copy/pasted the ceiling, lights and walls upside down. They did the same in one of the Duke Nukem 3D Christmas maps. Still a very smart hack. Great video as always, Civvie!
It's so amazing how much is DONE. Like, there is so much ready for release. That many guns and enemies for what is basically a tech demo? Animations and detail seemingly finished? How long was this particular version being cooked before it was tossed out?
there's also a 2002 version which is even more complete to our knowledge, if you heard that the game was "90% complete", then yes, the 2002 beta was that one
This version is dated October 2001 and probably started development when 3D Realms got access to Unreal. The "80-90% complete" build was dated December 2002 while Doom 3 was shown off at E3 2003. Doom 3's stencil shadows was what doomed this version of the game, so we can assume this version was in development from around 1999 to spring 2003, when George decided to delay the game to implement the shadows, which fucked everything.
Those particles and explosions. Damn. This is a little history moment. Maybe Duke get some positive recognition again. And Im glad that Civvie finally scratch that itch.
7:10 The 1911 in the modern Duke forever appears to fire 45 Automatic, the same as most 1911s (although plenty are chambered in 9mm.) The most popular Desert Eagle variant fires .50 AE, which is 50 caliber but much shorter than the 50 BMG that people tend to talk about with 50 cal.
This is the biggest "What if?" moment in gaming to me. What could of this have been? Even more curious to me is if the claims that this build continued on for another year of development before it was restarted are true. If so, I want to know how THAT version looks!!!
Part of me wishes this had never seen the light of day. The fact that a leaked beta from 20 years ago is miles ahead of what we finally got is depressing.
Isn't that everything Randy touches? Colonial Marines didn't even have that long to stew before he served something undercooked and looked nothing like what was on the menu.
Is anyone else impressed that, where practically every other character except Duke is using roboVO or stock clips, they had Lani Minella do full VO in the 2001 demo build for Paul the Callgirl?
The near-complete build of DNF was from September 2002. Game runs pretty well on a 2001 computer. The Slick Willy is surprisingly complete, wish you showed off the Slick Willy shootout. Great video, almost expected something misinformative about the build like many others have done.
How do you know how the 2002 build runs when it wasn't leaked? Or was it leaked, too, and Civvie decided for whatever reason to do a video about the 2001 build?
@@armorgeddon When I talked about how it ran, I meant the build Civvie is playing, as Civvie asked, wondering how it would run on a computer of the time. It has already been done almost immediately upon its release. As for the 2002 build, it was widely misreported by journalists that the 2001 build was near complete, when the original post by 3D Realms CEO Frederik Schreiber was on how the September 2002 build was near complete, with an estimate of 80-90%.
This game really had so much potential, a shame it turned out how it did 😔 Also of course Duke finds a way to be relevant again with something that is immediately dated
Duke hedonistic attitude in 3D was tolerable not because it was "fair for its day" but because it felt like he would fight to the death against aliens to keep with that lifestyle, and I can respect that mindset In Forever it feels like he is just a manchildren, a shallow parody of himself, ironic because he is supposed to be a parody himself
This build reminds me of "No one lives forever" Like this not quite IS game. But still with lots of interactivity. No one lives forever video when civvi?
Everyone blames Randy, but I blame George for the most part. Randy may have fucked up future games in the franchise getting made, but George was the one who royally fucked up the entire games development
I'm still blocked by George on Twitter because I made a joke on an unrelated tweet about how embarrassing it was that he had to get Randy Pitchford of all people to finish his game. Worth it. I'm still sad about what could have been, and I'm not even a massive Duke fan.
Nein. George is to blame for not delivering on DN:F, yes. But Randy is to blame for the DN:F version that we ended up getting and is STILL to blame for not allowing Duke Nukem content to be made, because of his pettiness. Let's not pretend that Randy is innocent of anything and that he doesn't deserve all the hate and scorn he gets as he ruined several franchises; remember Aliens Colonial Marines? For example.
Let's all just agree that every person who picked up this ball after 2001 just dropped it and dropped it until the poor ball somehow got brain damaged, even though it doesn't have a brain (being a ball).
@@DarkOmegaMK2 It is thanks to Randy that we even got a DNF game at all. The project was a wreck when Randy approached it, but they made up a deal and a small team of people of the then fired 3d realms team, now Triptych games, worked intensely from home for about half a year to gather up and put together what they had as best as possible before they transferred the files and the rights to Gearbox to finish it up. So if you hate Randy for giving us DNF then maybe you should hate Triptych for providing him with the source material. I haven't played it myself, I'm waiting for a steam sale, but on the whole a lot of people think it's at least an okay game, if not decent, even if it's not up to our 2001 expectations or without flaws. Even LGR liked it and I felt that his review was very sincere and fair.
The HUD being inside Duke's sunglasses was actually first implemented in Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes and yes, I DO have a guilty pleasure for the DN PS1 games, I'll gladly die on the cross for that opinion, those games were fun!

Uh, Duke was pissing out of his mouth. What, did he graft a deer antler to his groin? Also, the Riot Shield is something I feel like we need more of in shooters. After all, in classic boomshoot you're mostly dodging projectiles, but in a game with hitscanners you can't do that, so naturally it'd make sense to have blocking as a response to what you can't dodge, rather than break the flow by having regenerating health as a crutch.
@@GreenEyedDazzler Too right you. Admittedly, most of my Aqua Team memories are of Doctor Weird's moments. *Steve:* "Gentlemen! Fill me with barbecue sauce because I'm dumb as hell!" *Randy:* "...yeah ok. Sounds like a fun magic trick."
@@fojisan2398 On the one hand I can see how that would work. But on the other hand, a dedicated block button a'la Ultrakill would make blocking flow better into the gameplay loop. After all, while DUSK technically has a block button, it's only really a block button when you've got a melee weapon equipped, so that's an extra step you have to take that you're probably not going to take in the heat of the moment. That said, it wouldn't have to be the right mouse button, since that'd make blocking take up precious alt-fire capabilities like how ADS does in other shooters. Maybe have it default to R or F or C, or maybe \ or Shift since they're closer to the pinky when you're in WASD configuration.
You know... If George simply had the discipline to finish this build rather than obsess over being THE biggest game, Duke Nukem would probably still be famous rather than infamous...

It's especially odd since Duke had always been just a little behind the times technically. Duke 3D kept pace with 3D games like Quake basically by sheer chutzpah, and this build certainly had that.
George Broussard’s biggest mistake was forgetting the lesson of Duke Nukem 3D which was you don’t need the latest tech to make a fun game.
Yeah
“I ain’t afraid of no Quake.”

Besides what's already been said about this version of the EGO system... notice how it drops (pretty heavily) when Duke kills an innocent. Not too obtrusive, but it's a really effective way to remind people that Duke does, in fact, have a heart.
Actions speak louder than words, and something you feel in gameplay is even louder.
That's so fucking cool.
Duke may be an egotistical asshole, but he isn't _evil_
When Civvie killed "George", EGO got both reduced and boosted. Was a creep but also an unarmed guy that probably didn't need a .50 AE shaped hole. Orrrr Duke kinda felt bad for him but then he remembered he was a creep that did need a .50 AE shaped hole.

My absolute favorite thing about the Golden Deagle from this build is how Duke is 1-hand-rapid-firing it like an SMG. Because THAT is who Duke is.

Exactly like that
it's been reduced to a filler dream in the finished game what the fuck lol
dream about drinking a beer and fetching a sex toy. Ego++
Or she was infected herself and Duke found a way to cure her from the Thing monster stuff, at which point she joins our side.

Yeah. Also 1911 are usually .45, not 9mm, which in terms of diameter isn't too far from .50 cal.
.50 action express. It’s mostly a novelty caliber
the cartridge is refered to as .50 Action express or .50 AE for short. the caliber just dictates the diameter of the projectile. when most people hear 50 caliber they usually think of .50 BMG which you would never fit in an autoloading pistol. my preferred 50 caliber round though is S&W .500 magnum. ya know. for when there's an intruder. hiding behind the refrigerator. at your neighbors house.

The near-complete build of DNF was from September 2002. Game runs pretty well on a 2001 computer. The Slick Willy is surprisingly complete, wish you showed off the Slick Willy shootout. Great video, almost expected something misinformative about the build like many others have done.
God I hope that gets leaked too
How do you know how the 2002 build runs when it wasn't leaked? Or was it leaked, too, and Civvie decided for whatever reason to do a video about the 2001 build?
@@armorgeddon When I talked about how it ran, I meant the build Civvie is playing, as Civvie asked, wondering how it would run on a computer of the time. It has already been done almost immediately upon its release. As for the 2002 build, it was widely misreported by journalists that the 2001 build was near complete, when the original post by 3D Realms CEO Frederik Schreiber was on how the September 2002 build was near complete, with an estimate of 80-90%.
This game really had so much potential, a shame it turned out how it did 😔
Also of course Duke finds a way to be relevant again with something that is immediately dated
Duke hedonistic attitude in 3D was tolerable not because it was "fair for its day" but because it felt like he would fight to the death against aliens to keep with that lifestyle, and I can respect that mindset
In Forever it feels like he is just a manchildren, a shallow parody of himself, ironic because he is supposed to be a parody himself
The scripts, the action... It all has so much personality😭😭
Would've been a BANGER
this, what's in here is already much more itneresting than all of dnf
And it will!
Just wait a year or two ;-)
This build reminds me of "No one lives forever" Like this not quite IS game. But still with lots of interactivity. No one lives forever video when civvi?
Oh hell yes i'd love that! I think higher difficulties affect stealth though, be warned. Just do Normal
There is an alternate timeline where DNF is a critically acclaimed masterpiece released in like 2012-15.
In 2002 you mean, it would've been an absolute meme surpassing that of Half-Life 3's release date if it was released in '12.
I love the fact that the sewer count is slowly deteriorating
Skeleton sewer count, when civvie
@@DarkOmegaMK2 he didn't sat Randy was blameless. Just that George holds most of the blame for it getting that bad.
Even LGR liked it and I felt that his review was very sincere and fair.
oh man, at 19:25 when civvie mentions the pistol piercing ammo sounding fake as hell, it sounds EXACTLY like the silenced pistol in Goldeneye 64 lmao
Im glad Civvie's kept track of the number of Nukes he's fired after all these years
it's been like... 3-4 years

It’s important to keep track of inventory.
He's in a prison compound in an unknown location for the rest of his life. What else is he supposed to do
The HUD being inside Duke's sunglasses was actually first implemented in Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes and yes, I DO have a guilty pleasure for the DN PS1 games, I'll gladly die on the cross for that opinion, those games were fun!
Some of us enjoyed DN64, too.
@@predcon1 DN64 was my introduction to Duke Nukem, me and my sis played through the campaign in co-op.
Good thing it was censored because then it would of been more awkward otherwise.
@@SynthLizard8 I didn't even know there was co-op. In fact I can't think of _any_ FPS or TPS game on the 64 with a co-op mode. Plenty with MP deathmatches and stuff. My sister and brothers loved the MP in Turok 2 and BattleTanx
The only I haven't grown fond of with the ps1 games are the controls, otherwise those games were a blast.
@@solidsnake8008 Fortunately I was well versed with Tomb Raider 2 at that point, played through it several times so, the controls weren't that big of a hurdle for me.
11:09 Hey, Civvie? That was a very specific example. Do you need to talk about something? I'm always here for you. #FreeCivvie
Maybe attach shields to the gun itself, like Doom Eternal's Chaingun Energy Shield
Holy shit is that an AQUA TEEN reference
@@GreenEyedDazzler Too right you. Admittedly, most of my Aqua Team memories are of Doctor Weird's moments.
*Steve:* "Gentlemen! Fill me with barbecue sauce because I'm dumb as hell!"
*Randy:* "...yeah ok.
When he said the RPG had a nuke mode, I crossed all my fingers for a Lo Wang Nuke count. Civvie always delivers it :)
