MN v. Derek Chauvin Trial Day 2 - Continuing with Donald Williams - Darnella, Filmed Encounter

- Опубликовано: 29 мар 2021
- As seen on footage, the defendant kneeled on the victim’s neck for minutes during a fateful arrest on May 25, 2020, while co-defendants Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng were on the man’s back and legs. Floyd, who was handcuffed behind his back, was face down in the street, saying he could not breathe. He called out for his late mother. Angry bystanders demanded Chauvin remove the knee. Floyd became unresponsive. Authorities carried his limp body onto a stretcher.

Self control and professionalism- when you wanna punch the defense lawyer but just politely smile at him instead. Well done Mr. Williams! 🙌🏽
You should be thankful to the defense lawyer rather than "wanna punch" him, cause if he wasn't there against all odds and public opinion, we would be watching a public lynching and not a trial.
Professionalism-ness
Donald Williams is a hero. He stood by and did everything within his power to try to stop a horrible situation. He did not leave his fellow man on the ground and was there until the very end. He had every right to confront the police and call them out. I applaud this guy and his courage.
Agreed Scott. Thank you for this message.
Agreed. I think the defense attorney went down the wrong road in trying to make Mr. Williams look bad for swearing and continuing to yell at the police. He'd just witnessed something very traumatic and was trying to process it. It must have been horrific and terrifying to see.
He ain’t no hero. He stood by and did nothing but yell.

Donald WIlliams got destroyed. He claimed he acted professionally.... what a joke.
And fails miserably. Why? Because he just let go of the reins by being so argumentative. He’s in court. He acts like he’s ready to spar exactly what the defense is showing that interfered with the police.
I’ve wrestled for years. I’ve always gone for the neck and applied as much pressure as I can to the neck and I’ve never seen someone pass out because you can’t choke or stop blood circulation in that position. If you could you would see kids passing out every time they were in a half Nelson. Dereks little chicken leg isn’t the cause of death. Floyd’s opioid addiction killed him

Donald Williams, control, professionalism, truth....Thank you
Donald Williams did not loose one shred of credibility with me. Some people think he “lost it” and got angry with the defense lawyer, but I just didn’t see that. Yes, he got defensive, but not overly so. Watching the video, I don’t think he was being overly aggressive to the cops, and didn’t sound any more angry, or threatening then any of the other people who were there witnessing this. And keep in mind, from his training, he had some idea of the danger of the choke hold, so could tell that George Floyd was in major physical distress and seemed to be trying to call the cops attention to this. Also, saying someone was “being a bum right now” because of their behavior is not exactly the worst language he could have used. I know he got more aggressive as time went on, but even then it was not the worst language I’ve ever heard. Seemed like the defense was trying to make it sound like Donald Williams was partly to blame for what happened, as if Derek and the other cops were being distracted by some name calling. I don’t buy it. Still think he was an excellent witness.

Hey Yo, Precisely, they obviously knew they had done something to George because they called an ambulance. They found no pulse and still they remained on top of him. Who did they think he was? Goliath?
@@sarahreid3467 they called an ambulance because he busted his own mouth while fighting them in the vehicle. They called a minute after they put him on the ground. They upped the call a minute and a half later because they realized he was probably overdosing. They were holding him there for the EMT rather than putting him in the hobble so he wouldn't further injure himself before the ambulance got there. Especially after he passes out, they knew that when people under the influence pass out, they often freak out more when they regain consciousness. He had just busted his own face open in the car... I'm sure they were scared he would do worse on the pavement. He was HIGH AF. They did their job. It went wrong because he was unhealthy and extremely high on a dangerous narcotic. That same technique is used ALL THE TIME and nobody dies from it. Nobody.
If you watch Thomas Lanes body cam video, they had no idea he didn't have a pulse until the ambulance was there. They had JUST realized he had gone unconscious.

Instead, he reacted like any normal person would if they see that something has gone horribly wrong.
Your looking for damage ? This is about getting the truth. The truth is a man died because 3 grown men constricted him like a snake does it's prey a slow painful death that was the damage. How can you watch the video and think anything else ? Come on
That is correct.
Donald Williams was a very likeable, human, decent and credible witness, my opinion. The jury can't help but like him.
Correct
I adore him. He is a solid man with his head screwed on. Much respect to Mr Williams.
King Footie It's not about whether the jury likes him or not. It's about his credibility as a witness in this case, and the Defense absolutely destroyed his cred when they had him answer the anger questions -he lied/ BSd his arse off! Williams should have just answered honestly and said, yes, I was angry.
He is a true hero.
@@markh.2899 Excuse me, but do you have trouble reading? I said that I found Williams to be a credible witness, as well as likeable. Under the circumstances, I'm certain the jury liked him too, and also found him credible. Any interpretation of being angry would be translated as being panicked for George Floyd's life, and completely understandable. This man was an excellent witness for the prosecution.
Witnesses are the ones who were there at the time. One can say for example, he should speak more clearly or be more relaxed, more this or that. He is the witness. I thoroughly am impressed by the sincerity and trustworthiness of this witness.
I agree, I think he is very credible.
Can the witness know how much pressure is actually on his neck ? No , the autopsy shows no bruising or broken bones on is neck, inside or out. Do research on that fact ! I’ve watched so many trials, have heard lots of experts explain what happens inside the neck even if no bruising on the outside, it’s helped convict lots of people...George had no such bruising or the small bones broken. Try watching and listening to all evidence before you become a judge and jury.
@@smilely771 Study MMA. The fact that "the autopsy shows no bruising or broken bones on is neck, inside or out" is redundant. You can "choke" a person to death without breaking bones or bruising. You can choke a person unconscious also without breaking bones or bruising. The fact there was no bruising or broken bones in the neck makes no difference to the fact that the knee contributed to the man's death.
And on whether the witness can "know" how much pressure is on the neck? Obviously no. He cannot know exactly the numerical value we can attribute to the exact pressure. But he can tell, as can anyone else whose studied chokes, that a significant amount of weight is indeed being placed on the neck, which is a large factor that is leading to Floyd's difficulty breathing, and is exactly what we should expect of such a choke, done by a man with Chauvin's approximate size (i.e. he ain't small.). Its really, very simple. You can try and complicate it. But its right there for everyone to see. Not much expertise is actually required here. The knee makes it harder to breathe. Period. It contributes to the man's death. Period.
@@Fin365 there’s still so much more to the case, I’m just frustrated at people just saying anyone is guilty without having all the facts. The video is only a small part of the evidence. I have watched many, many trials, and belong to many true crime channels ...there’s so much more to all cases. Also people should watch body cam videos on RUclips, you’ll see and learn a lot , and this type of hold is used many times on all types of people resisting arrest , and they don’t all die. There’s more to it .
Because you’ve watched a lot of trials on TV, you think that you know what exactly? The video caught exactly what happened. A cop suffocated a retrained man who was begging to breathe. The man died. The cop never let up, he dug his knee in further and continued this for almost 10 minutes. After the man was already dead. Not much more to it. Your “expert” tv watching skills don’t really stand any argument with what all the witnesses saw and recorded on video.

Guilty.
I missed all the aggression that everyone is referencing in the comments. I thought he did just fine.
So what he was angry there was a man being murdered in front of his eyes
Do we know yet why they took him out of police car? Was he hand cuffed while in the car?
They opened the other side of the car door to pull him in, and floyd pushed himself all the way across the vehicle and started pushing out the other side. So they pulled him out the rest of the way and put him on the ground. They didn't really take him back out, he pushed himself out. And they couldn't keep him in.
@@adrn205 you were able to see that?
*handcuffed
Why you just don't watch a bodycam video??? There are plenty on youtube.
Watch the video its all online. They took him out the car cuz he was fighting getting into the car
I feel really bad for the young man who was told to leave. He never intended for George Floyd to get hurt.
Yelling don’t kill ppl
*doesn't
Totally agree.
Dude just cant name his emotions or just wont wtf
@@tinypapertiger Thats what I precieved. Its ironic that he made all these assumtions about what officer Chauvin was feeling (and his intentions) even though Chauvin's expressions were calm and he was not raising his voice, but then he reacted badly to it being pointed out that he was angry and getting angrier and even denies he was angry. Anger is a human emotion we all experience. It is how we react to anger that differentiates us. If a person doesnt even admit to themselves that they feel anger then they likely give themselves a free pass to act just like he did. He described his screaming threats and obscenities over and over and over and over as 'staying in his proffessionalism'. That is obsurd!
OMG!! He didn’t know those other two cops were behind the suv the entire time!! I had no idea. I wonder what would have happened if all those people would have known there were two more cops to reason with, or try to? Could it have raised emotion of bystanders making them more likely to get even more vocal?
“I called police in a police..” *mic drop*
Irrivelevant mr defense attorney I hope jury sees through this
*irrelevant
I don’t think it matters how long the police were interacting with the deceased and what may have happened before Mr Williams came upon the incident, what does matter is what he witnessed when he arrived. His feeling of being in potent when he tried to get help for Mr Floyd . I think Mr Williams held his own when challenged by the defence. 🇦🇺He had to relive witnessing a man losing his life and NO ONE was allowed by the police to help! 🇦🇺
Is that why he just blew the case..... He don't sound like he s telling the truth... He s talkin from an emotional view just like the unsuccessful bw that raised he s not so bright self, this is the same reason why we can't progress.....many of us we're brought up by emotional women and are still losing..... Lying gets you nowere.... 400 years & we still don't get it!!....... Nobody but other liers likes liers....
Catherine- it is not about “feelings”. The questioning is designed to uncover facts. It is very clear why arrival time of the witness to the scene is important as well as every other question asked.
Not to mention he called the police on the police
Come on bro
I think very one would think it mean but we have no idea what he did
Donald Williams is a patriot 🇺🇸
Do well let him know I referred you to him...his strategies are top notch ✅...and don't forget to smash the like button..
2:53 How are they going to interrupt and stop him from speaking? Is that even legal. Let him speak!!!
They let him ramble more than any witness I've seen so far.
I grew professional and professional
He said a couple times at least that he was scared, so why didn't he leave?
I think he said threatened......not scared. And maybe you should ask another question. Like why did Chauvin take a handcuffed man out the back of a police car and rest his whole body weight on his neck for 9mins.
@@candice721 Check out 3:06 and 6:09. And apparently he shouldn't have done the knee on neck!
Guilty
Ah Who cares he was yelling. So that’s worse then what they did to GF
My mother always said that actions speak louder than words. Derek Chauvin actions spoke more than any of the bystanders words.
I'm so slow... I read your comment thinking "omg, what did the witness do to his girlfriend?!"
.... smh 🤣🤣
@@rubberchix what? Nobody was trying to put him in jail 😒

See & hear PTSD at 1:03:20
"I referred to fish 🐟😵in the bag" puts head down, whispers, "Fish 🐟😵in the bag." He explained on Day 1, that earlier that day, he & his kid had caught 3 bass, and they sealed the plastic bag, and watched the fish "suffocate and their eyes 🐟😵go pale." It was a happy memory because he had a great day, hadn't been fishing for many years, and had fun with his kid. He described their watching youtube videos trying to learn how to prepare the fish probably still in the plastic bag back at their home nearby.
Then, he went to Cup Foods to get a drink and a break from the smell of the fish & their trying to prepare the fish. Then, he drove up, parked, and came up on the murder of Floyd.
Donald said he watched Floyd "suffocate and his eyes 😵🐟go pale, roll back in his eyes." He compared Floyd dying to the fish 😵🐟dying in that plastic bag.
Those two are now forever connected: fish 🐟 dying and Floyd 😵 dying.
He said that the fish were still in his freezer- he never finished preparing or eating the fish. He could not handle dealing with those fish- that's called a "trigger." He cant even talk or think about the dying fish- that he knows he killed. It reminds him of Chauvin killing Floyd.
Donald understands that Chauvin cared about Floyd about as much as Donald cared about those dying fish. Donald knows we can all be evil- and wishes he could have done more.
PTSD trigger- he cant even recall the fish dying without becoming overwhelmed. He said in an interview on the day of the guilty verdict that he hasn't trained for over six months. He has lost his former life. This has changed him, and apparently not in a very healthy way.
I hope he is able to file a lawsuit that will get him and his family some money to compensate for watching a murder happen and keeping him from doing what he could've done, which is save George Floyd's life.
Unfortunately, those cops would've put Donald on the ground and killed him just as fast as they killed Floyd. Maybe even faster, by using their guns.
On a side note, if we all had to kill our meat, we would probably eat way less, because its quite upsetting, watching the animal struggle for life, and the effort it requires to kill.
This testimony is very powerful because the officer was actively killing Floyd. Every movement of Floyd caused Chauvin to press harder until Floyd stopped even struggling to breathe and Floyd had already died.
Then, when Floyd went into death-spasms, and was already dead, Chauvin pressed down even harder as if Floyd was resisting or fighting. Then, the other officers were taunting Floyd as he died- as if he could comply.
Donalds expertise in subduing others using these moves 100% complemented the doctors and other experts of how Floyd died, why Floyd died, and how it could have been prevented.
You see how Donald kept trying to smile, breathe, and not allow the Defense to make Donald responsible for Floyd's death? The Defense keeps trying to blame the "angry crowd" for causing a lapse in judgement, distraction, and police failures of their duty to care. Donald did not fall into the trap, much. The Jury probably connected with Donald more than any other witness, because he was like Superman and the cops using guns, mace, and threats had kryptonite.
You see here how PTSD can come from watching someone else die, especially being rendered powerless to help or stop the killing.
Donald knows none of us expected any more out of him. Donald was a hero. Look at the price a real hero pays.
Nelson proved Donald was a knowledgeable person who would not be aroused thus not an angry young man but a man who was seeking justice.
10 mins talking bout martial arts why
Because the defense is going to try and argue that it wasn't the knee on the neck that lead to him going unconscious - so they are trying to undermine the witnesses expertise about martial arts to dispute his claim.
I think lawyer keeps asking Mr. Williams to confirm it only takes a few seconds for a choke hold to render a person unconscious because - Mr. Chauvin had Mr. Floyd in a choke hold for about 9 minutes before he was unconscious The lawyer is saying If police had really had Mr. Floyd in a choke hold, Mr. Floyd would have been unconscious in just a few seconds versus the several minutes it took to happen. That's why lawyer also asking Mr. Williams if he has ever been able to speak during a fight while in a choke hold -.becauae Mr. Floyd was speaking during the 9 Minutes he was in the choke hold.
Hopefully the jury see through this Donald guy.
Sure...and just watch the videos which backs up everything Mr. Williams stated🙄
Very surprised at how this defense was allowed to ramble on about nothing that had to do with the defendant and his crime
They always do that in trials where the defendant is blatantly guilty... its am attempt to confuse/fill the jury's head with a bunch of fluff
@@ninachkah13 I understand what this lawyer was trying to achieve so lets hope the jury sees it for what it is, deflecting from the truth.

Mr. Williams should not have got all defensive on cross examination. He should of just answered the questions directly. The young lady so far has been a good witness for the state hopefully she doesn’t get an attitude when the defense questions her.
He is getting frustrated with the Judge.
@@tinypapertiger I can see why; the Judge would not let him finish his answer and kept interrupting him. He does not have to control his emotions and I was not being critical of him. He witnessed a horrific act by someone paid to protect and serve the public; he has every right to be angry especially as he has to relive it. All these people criticising him below in the comments section wonder how they would feel if this is something they witnessed.
