The scene with everyone running from the dragons and the WoL just bravely walking toward them, that was the first time I felt like a real hero. That and the subsequent battle between Hraesvalgr and Nidhogg is one of the most amazing scenes in the entire game.
Spoilers for Shadowbringer:
This scene and the scene where Ardbert is almost done after he couldn't save the soldier and then he sees the WoL leading the Troops into battle. The WoL in front of the other soldiers, marching into battle against the monsters was a really cool scene.
One of the things I love about FFXIV is that it really, really goes out of the way to show you that a 'hero' isn't always someone that defeats world ending threats, but also someone who just helps a random passerby because they can.
In a video game sense ARR is very slow, and at the time I was like 'wtf are we doing delivering cheese?!', but I really think these moments hit so much harder when you realize that your character is essentially just someone trying to do the right thing, and help those around them.
It's just a fantastic story/game.
The immense amount of emotional damage that I incurred while watching the cutscene where you take the eyes from Esti-Nidhogg was severe. Haurchefant is a character who deserved so much more. I'm a Paladin and I've never once forgot to glamour my shield into the Fortemps' one. I love that man.
I started Gladiator/Paladin on my character solely for the purpose of glamming the Fortemps' shield. No other shield is worthy.
i'm sorry, I love how Estinien wakes up, fresh from spending however long it was in canon being possessed by a dragon who absolutely hates him, and his first thought is "man, Alphinaud needs to shut the fuck up"
13:40 The Warrior of Light is the one character in the game that it's totally okay to fall in love with cause you know they won't die. Unless you're me in raids, then she dies over and over and over and over and over... eventually it stops hurting and you just wait for a healer.
Embrace the floor. She is your constant, stalwart companion throughout your journey :D

Technically Lahabrea kills the Warrior of Light at the end of 2.0 since the overhaul of 6.1, but they get rezzed by Mommy Hydaelyn.
Canonically, we never lose thanks to the Echo. When we wipe in a raid, canonically it's the Echo showing us how we could possibly fail. The only true fight is the one where we win.
Remember, everytime it played the song Dragonsong throughout the game it was an orchestral version. But when you get Hraesvelgaurs eye, you finally can understand the lyrics of the song. It's so amazing.

I love seeing streamers and other players develop the trauma response to the "several cutscenes" bit.
it has traumatised me for sure
i will forever love the little touches they often use that go unnoticed by many. My favorite in possibly the whole game being the transition from the instrumental of Dragonsong to the version with lyrics the moment you absorb Hraesvelgrs eye. You become attuned to the dragons, and able to hear their "song" which so many referred to. Nidhoggs rage and anguish in musical form, metaphorically signalling your new connection.
Heavensward was when I realised something profound...that I never wanted to stop seeing what this games story provided!
This story was amazing in every sense, and it saddens me that many will never experience it because:
'It's just an MMO, they have no story worth anything'!
The cast of characters in this game is wonderful, and watching you encounter them is going to be a true treat - enjoy Eorzea!
this was when the Warrior of Light made their true mark on the world and the start of them being an entity beyond physical limits.
The first time they played Dragonsong War with lyrics I bawled my eyes out.. then it happened again at an emotional moment. Lost my sanity and never found it again
The whole Dragonsong war storyline was INCREDIBLE. The trial and the last phase with the music just swelling is still one of my favourite moments in this game. After ARR which felt quite slow story-wise, HW was such an amazing improvement.
I'm not going to lie, when I first did this many years back I cried at the post fight cutscene. I did not expect it, and it always makes me tear up everytime I see it again. I hope you truly enjoyed the story thus far, and we'll see you in Stormblood soon.
This has long been my favorite part of the game, and I always watch the cut scenes on whatever characters I take through here. . . Watching you experience this for the first time was so cathartic! I cried right along with you, even though I knew what would happen many times over.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us. So many of us find it worth rewatching, and crying alongside new players. Heavensward truly brings us all together, in grief and catharsis.
I did not know you could learn the Haurchefaunt emote! I looked it up, now I'm gonna go do that quest chain.

this was the point when i decided to care about the story of this game. just so great.

@jorja I know I'm a bit late but welcome to the "FFXIV Feels Club." You are, of course, starting with the customary and "oh so much hurt" Feelsward Level Membership. Don't worry though, you'll be able to progress to the "Feelsbringers" and "EndFeelers" levels quickly enough if you so desire.

If you’re interested in learning about an alternate retelling of events of the dragonsong war, such as what if Haurchefant had survived, look up “The Story of Dragonsong’s Reprise Ultimate.” Turns out, things only get worse than how they turned out in the main story. Warning to not watch the last 30 seconds or so of the video though as that will have spoilers for events to come.

when the song starts playing before fightnig nidhogg, i knew then that this was more than just an mmo, and i have not been dissapointed since.

Great reaction, lots of fun. Super wish your character looked like a proper adventurer, as I couldn't get behind the whole "she looks so cool" dressed like shes headed to pick up some avocados from the farmers market or maybe a light jog around the park, but to each their own! Thumbs up!
