- This whole section hit SO hard. Thancred and Minfillia's/Ryne's story has been beautiful so far!

The Dad Battle is still one of my favourite duties.

@@wontononionslicer1004Gonna disagree there. After completing 5.0 there is a party at the Crystarium. The morning after Thancred says "I was going to have a drink but Urianger started naming all my drunken conquests. I ended up drinking water." If he were still a Fuckboi he'd have not cared and probably fucked half the Crystarium by now.
Fun fact: Minfilia's real name is Ascilia, but since her bioDad is a spy Thancred gave her her name "Minfilia" to keep her safe.
And now so many years later he names Ryne too 😭🥺.
The battle of the stepdads is what finally made me like Thancred. I hadn't been charmed by him much in previous expansions, but this gave him so much growth from his past as a womanizer. Seeing him mature and act as a (step)father is what I didn't know I wanted.
Yeah, as a Ul'dah starter, I couldn't stand Thancred for the longest time (until this point in shb)
I was soooo scared Dadcred died before he has a second chance to be a better father 😭. I'm so glad omg my heart. It's one thing to have a grand gesture and sacrifice your life but being a dad isn't just about grand gestures.
I kind of feel for Ran'jit as well. He raised girls as his own and saw every last one of them die on his hands...
Ditto. The man was a hero until the world broke him. After that, it was easier to accept Vauthry's future of resignation than to continue to struggle in vain.
And you could see that he was confused about Minfilia/Ryne, continually confusing her with her predecessors when he grew frustrated. Who knows how many of her incarnations he raised? That more than anything is what broke him I think.

Possibly my single most favorite scene from the entire game, and I'm not even a dad ! 11/10, would cry again.

Ryne is my favorite character by far in FFXIV. I hope that my daughter will be as precious as her.
FYI, Ardbert’s VA is from Game of Thrones. He was Gendry.
Also, Hrothgar name lore is Slavic while Viera is Icelandic.
And Crystal Exarch’s VA is the one guy from Bridgerton. I forget the character’s name but the actor and VA in FFXIV is Johnathan Bailey.
It's a bummer how Shadowbringers mismanages Ranjit's character. A man who had to watch his adopted daughters die over and over again as part of their duties in a world that slowly twisted his relationship with each subsequent generation of Minfilia from one of probably sincere care, to one of over-protection, to finally one of control.
We've probably all seen this type of story play out far more effectively in other media, so it's sad that it serves as one of the sole blemishes in an otherwise near perfect 5.0.
I agree, it's hinted at, and you can extrapolate the truth from what he said, but it could have been spelled out in a more obvious way to add some additional weight to our fights against him.
Similarly, I would have loved a little more of Thancred explaining that the reason he is giving Ryne the cold shoulder is because he doesn't want to influence her choice, and also doesn't want to get attached to a girl he may lose. It must have been really hard for him at times, and we only see at the end how much, by how he softens after the choice is made.
Agreed, it'd make a huge difference in the drama if he was better handled, since he's essentially the primary antagonist for most of the leveling process
@@Dewkeeper I give kudos to the voice actor for being able to convey as much as he did with the voice cracking when delivering the "and who was it who watched you fall, again and again..." line.
