It's one of those WoL RP decisions that makes NO DIFFERENCE to the overall story, but makes a ton of difference to the PLAYER's experience. I've watched the "Trust Papalymo" version where the WoL stoically leaves him, and ones where the player stays with him. I chose the same as Jorja and it still hurts so much that we couldn't stay with him. This is actually one of scenes I specifically call out as "The story is mostly on rails because it's an MMO, but you feel agency to express your WoL in some of the choices."

I had Papalymo spoiled for me, but not exactly when it would happen. It cuts deep when you start a Gridania class (Archer, Lancer, Conjurer) and meet Papalymo & Yda as your introduction to the Scions.
I still miss him the most.

i think the worst (best) part is the very subtle timing of the song where when papalymo begins to walk forward and made up his mind, the song just starts saying "walk free, walk free" like we already know from interviews that they fully time the music with cutscenes purposely so like yeah. that was on purpose

As non Gridania starter, this doesn’t hit as hard as I wanted it to. Sadly Papalymo is kinda missing for the most of Heavensward and our exposure with him and Yda was quite limited. During most of ARR, we often interacted with them as a collective scion and rarely we have intimate moments with them.
And let’s be honest, they were quite bland in ARR as stereotypical the Pinky and the Brain.
Only in a few HW patches that I begin to feel attached to them, but it wasn’t enough. In the end I felt like I didn’t get the feel stab as much as I wanted compared to my Gridanian friends

I always felt like Papalymo got really cheated out of the story, there was barely any charachter development and introduction, Moonbryda was with us only for one expansion and yet that was way more powerful... And then we have an original scion cast member Papalymo, got like 2 mins of fame, crafted a temporary ball, and gave his life for it i didnt even feel sad because it was just so random, he deserved a way better send off
