      DId he face Wawrinka in any of those 3 years in RG?
      Because, if i remember correctly, Wawrinka was still playing well in 2017 after that crazy match against Murray.
      Thiem's backhand is a joy to watch. I wish he could have lasted longer in this year's Us open. Oh well. Can't wait for next year to come.

    Yeah, I always tell that Thiem is combination of Djoko, Nadal and Fed... Flexibility, power and speed, and great backhand...
    Problem is that he is too inconsistent... And I really dont know why... I expected him to be on top spot also on hard court but he is really too inconsistent...

    Nadal may be the kind of clay, but Thiem is definitely crown prince of clay and one day he will take the title 'king of clay' when Rafa retires. By the way, LOVE that backhand

    Most of the Points that he won were From BackHand to ForeHand, (The shot which many Players Avoid & Scared to use!)
    This shot is Simply very Necessary to master if you want to have a Chance against Left Handers Like Rafa.
    This Shot is the Reason why Thiem is one of the Only Dominant players against Rafa on Clay!

      Or, as I interpret it, 'He is the most dominant among all those who have faced Nadal in RG, yet'.

    About one handed backhands: Stan is my favourite because he has power and placement, and elegance at the same time
    Federer has a great one handed backhand because of his precision and his slice
    other great that we all know is Gasquet but guys, the accelerations that can impress Thiem with his backhand is something never seen in tennis !

    Watch the entire 2018 USO QF match against Rafa. You will not see a better 1st set or consistently stratospheric level of tennis from 2 players for pretty much every point and the highest level possible from thiem in set 1. One of the best matches ever. Period.

      It happens. idk if he was sick or not for sure, but one thing I can say for sure is that every player has their good and bad days.
      That day wasn't his best.

      @@danieldenuijl4047 Or even Dimitrov's. If you have seen the recent Dimitrov vs Wawrinka matches, you would probably be as impressed of the backhand shots of these 2 players as I am.
      Their backhand winners are remarkably similar.

    Despite clay obviously being his best surface, I think he will win a hard court slam before Rolland Garros. Mainly because of Rafa.

    Thiem for a brief period was the only one that can match nadal physically and hit through djokovic. Wawrinka could do it to Djokovic but never nadal.

      He's a clay specialist, but he's also one of the very best hardcourt players in the world, which is sth extremely special. And even though grass is his by far least favorite surface and he only rarely plays on grass, he even has 2 grass titles (one of them being Stuttgart where he defeated Roger on grass)

      @@FlowerPrincess99 I agree with you mostly. However, about half of the tennis players aren't as classy as we think they are.
      Kyrgios and Medvedev are more like the guys who are just not afraid to show their emotions in public.
      Sometimes, it's better to let go of some anger, if it helps you focus later in the match.
      Probably the most unfortunate thing I have seen from a player I like is Federer breaking his racquet (I think it was in 2009). Goes to show that Federer is human too. And, it is good to be classy, but not necessary.
      Because such rare slip-ups will always happen.
