I'm 73 grew up with The Beatles and Motown and all that great 60s music, but there was never anything like Ren he is a one off. People say he is a generational artist, I think he is more than that. People say he is a bard, I think he is more than that. He writes epic pieces that challenge the mind and highlight major issues in society. He crosses all genres with aplomb. I have all of his recorded material and it is all absolute fire.

Amen!! I like to say AR and BR when it comes to different times in my life. During BR, I was much more guarded when it came to letting people know me. I was very secretive about my life experiences. I was ashamed of some of the things that I have gone through. On the other hand, after February 12, 2023 was when AR began. Since then I have shared my story without shame and embarrassment. I have let people in and my life has shifted immensely. Ren changes you emotionally, mentally, and physically.

    • @Skittenmeow

AR is a roller-coaster. Recently I finally had a fall from a horse. I'd been riding for 18 months but had been so scared of falling that I kept limiting what I was trying despite my skill. I wasn’t really living. Once I'd had that fall everything that seemed unacceptably risky became clarified. Sure some of the things I was scared of trying I can still categorise as too difficult to try yet. But most of the things I was scared of trying I've done now. I got this. And due to embracing courage and determination, I've somehow now been given a horse with all her expenses and upkeep included in the gift. I'm almost 44. I didn't expect my steam of having a horse to ever come true. And now I have a palomino arabian mare named Shakira who is the best thing in my life

When is a completely independent artist. He’s a lyricist, actor, storyteller, extraordinaire, editor, Director, and producer. Singer and rapper all around gender bender in his storytelling bardcore. He suffered with a misdiagnosed illness for around eight years while he was diagnosed with all sorts of mental disorders and psychosis being treated with heavy psychotic drugs and others that actually made him experience psychosis and hallucinations. At times he spent 23 hours a day in bed. Finally, he was diagnosed with lime disease from a tick when he was 17 years old. At the time he was busing in Brighton solo and with his band the big push he gained a contract with Sony for an album, halfway into it he became extremely ill and couldn’t finish and the contract was canceled Reno and performed this while he was in Alberta, Canada undergoing daily IV treatment and surgeries For massive brain damage and mass damage as well as severe autoimmunity and pain throughout his whole body. Unable to eat anything except mashed up food you were right this is a one take video. 3 still cameras, recorded from beginning to end nine minutes, and then Ren edited them together. It went viral and became an anthem for many peoples experiences with mental health disorders and physical, chronic illnesses, etc., and many who have been gaslit by the medical community. He has changed millions of lives. From there, it’s just been one hit after the other. Master of the one take he decided he wanted to try for a rap album. For an intro to rap reaction to the hunger, Genesis, Illist if out Time, Power. For mental health chalk Ourlines ren x Chinchilla and how to be me by Ren X chinchilla. For Joe, suicide. Storytelling start with the tales of Jenny and screech. And then move through the trilogy money game one, two, and three was recorded for a few hundred dollars, always finding a way and a place to make it work buy money game three you will see him almost a year later with a very healthy budgetin England with all new lighting all new equipment microphones extras choreography in an incredible wrap/storytelling event in the highest movie light quality available! You may have been quiet throughout a lot of that performance, but your face spoke volumes. Your eyes, your expressions when lines like "You've got to kill you, if you wanna kill me", and "Some people know me as hope. Some people know me as the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope" hit you. As someone who nearly deleted herself multiple times over the first 50 years of my life those lines hit especially hard.
I love how the musical part ends similarly to how it began, the difference being the joy Ren exhibits through the playing and singing, yet the lights are still flickering wildly. To me that shows the acceptance that the dark side, and the light side have to learn how to live together. To dance together if we are to survive.
Great heartfelt reaction man. It's not an easy song to get through, just as the self reflection that is needed to overcome the darkest depths of despair are hard. But it's so very worth it. ❤

Ren has been writing music since 12. Was signed by Sony At 19 but became very sick and could not finish album. Bedridden mostly from 19 to 26, wrongly diagnosed and given psych drugs that made him worse but allowed his body to deteriorate. 7 years later diagnosed with Lyme disease. Treated in 2016 with stem cells which improved his health about half way. Still has major autoimmunity and brain damage. Just back to UK after 18 months of treatment in Canada. Still has issues. Got a #1 album for Sick Boi last year in UK.

Both lights are flashing, and his sweet voice is representing his pure Ren persona, and the sort of frantic dancing is his dark side. His message is that you never triumph over your demons. In an interview Ren said that Hi Ren was a one take, the third take they did. They didn't have permission to be in the basement they were in, and they had 4 cameras and two mics. As they were finishing the second take, the building manager walked in and asked them to leave. They begged for another 30 minutes and that was the take they used. However, the very end part when he turns from putting down the guitar and starts talking is a separate take. They were allowed to go back when the building manager helped them submit the correct paperwork.
Post production was them just taking footage from the various cameras they had set up to auto record.
He's done quite a few single takes, both storytelling and singing solo / duo. The Tale of Jenny and Screech birthed the genre "Bardcore" for a reason. Earlier this year he won a couple of international music awards for best song video for Money Game III which was two takes.

Most people follow this song with The Tales of Jenny and Screech (official video with Violet's Tale on the end). Then they may dive into the Money Game Trilogy. That order will give you more of a glimpse into his acting prowess.
After that Ren's rabbit hole is filled with a treasure trove of goodies. Ren loves to collaborate with other singers, all top quality.
He fits no pigeon hole. A nightmare for humans who like to put songs into ordered categories/genres. Ren just does his own thing throughout a song.
Many (like this) are filmed live and are one takes. This one they had about 4 tries, as they were getting kicked out of the room!
    He often does remixes.
Let the Renegades guide you as to the best version of which song to hear. It is best to hear the official video before the acoustic each time. The other way around is akin to eating dessert before the main meal. It also makes more sense to see the official to get an idea of the story. His acoustics really are sublime.

Ren's been doing his own stuff for a long time. Before, during and after the Big Push. He was actually signed by Sony, at the age of 19 but became too ill to perform or record, only a few months later, so the contract wasn't renewed. He spent most of his 20s bedridden, in chronic, 24hr pain, which meant he couldn't really sleep. He also developed severe autoimmunity, making him highly allergic to virtually all food, for instance. Although his health has improved over the last half a dozen years, he remains seriously and chronically ill, with a whole range of conditions. He is still in constant pain, though the level of pain has dropped, generally speaking.

There are several interviews, and his life story in eight chapters on RUclips, this guy has had some struggles, he developed Lyme Disease, and for ten years, this went undiagnosed, and during those ten years, Lyme Disease ravaged his body, this led to major side-effects, becoming allergic to food, major depression, psychosis and pain. Through all of this, he has maintained being a genuinely nice person, to musically (music being the best way to induce emotions), sharing his struggles with us to let us know we are not alone, he struggles too, and to share what works for him, giving us hope. I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction.
    jAN 01, 2023
    rEN~
Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed.
I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head.
When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus.
These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between.
My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished.
My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world.
The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war.
For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person.
I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought.
Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours.
I can't wait for you all to hear it.

The order should be Jenny's tale, Screech's tale and then Violet's tale. I just found Ren this past week as well and I can't stop watching. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar in December 2022. However, Ren's earliest recordings on RUclips are from his time in a band called "Trick The Fox," consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren's onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is "The Mash Up."
Ren's trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master's class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal.
Ren's Hip Hop/Rap style songs are worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; unfortunately, sexual innuendos are pervasive in hip-hop and rap, and Ren makes such references in several of his songs. Check out "The Hunger," "Genesis," "What You Want," "Losing It (FISHER rap retake)," "Right Here, Right Now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake)," "Life is Funny," "Love Music (Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4)," "Crucify Your Culture," "Power," "Hold On," his recent release, “Down On The Beat (feat. Viktus),” “Masochist,” his song “Halftime (Nas Retake),”and “Troubles,” just to name a few.
Ren's collaborations with Chinchilla ("Chalk Outlines," "How to Be Me," "Sexual Healing," "One Dance/Drunk in Love") are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," "Diazepam," "Penitence," "Dear God," "Heretic," "Dominos," his "Freckled Angels" album, in particular his song "Fire," just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I, II & III) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren just released "Money Game Part III," and in my opinion, it is his best work to date.
Ren's performances with Sam Tompkins ("Blind Eyed," "Earned It /Mans World / Falling," "Walking on the Moon/No Diggity," "Feeling Good/Trouble So High/Masterblaster (Jammin')," "Latch," "Wild Thoughts/Crazy in love (Live Session)," "Same Old Situation (Live, feat. Ren)," "Improvising Around Stevie Wonder," "Live in the Streets of Brighton, UK," "What Went Wrong" Part I&II) are definitely a must. Also, his collaborations with Eden Nash ("Humble," "Ocean"), Bibi ("Crutch," "Ahiahiaoha"), Molly McKinna ("Penitence"), Orlean ("Jessica"), his former bandmate Romain Axisa ("French Song"), are all great. Last but not least, Ren's busking sessions with Liv Sangster are awesome. I recently discovered that Ren also recorded a cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover)," which is simply beautiful.
"The Big Push" (Ren Gill, Gorran Kendall, Romain Axisa, and Glen Chambers) busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are amazing and well worth checking out. All but the drummer sing lead vocals at times. They are each incredibly gifted artists. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard," "War Pigs," "Roadhouse Blues," "My Generation," "Paint It Black," "An Englishman in New York," "Bongo Bong" are excellent. On "These Boots Are Made For Walking'/Satisfaction/Everybody," "Praise You" (Fatboy Slim Cover), and "What Kind Of Woman Is This," all three take a turn singing. The songs "Oh My Woman," "Swan Song," "Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Dignity," "Watch Out," and so many others are equally impressive.
In 2023, Ren released "Sick Boi," "Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake)," which is another masterful work, "Illest Of Our Time," and "Animal Flow," which is out in two versions, a full-production music video, and a live, one-take acoustic version. Ren's release, "Su!cIde," is a sad, haunting, gut-wrenching tribute to Ren's friend Joe who took his own life. Ren’s follow-up to “Su!cIde,” "For Joe," is also sad and emotional, but strangely enough, it offers a sense of closure. Ren also premiered the official music video of his song “Murderer,” and followed it up with a newly recorded acoustic live version that is phenomenal and my favorite of the two versions. His releases, “Love Music Part 4,” “Masochist,” “Lost All Faith,” are from his album, "Sick Boi," which came out on October 13th, 2023; it made it to #1 on the UK Album Charts.
Ren also released “Back on 74/Message in a Bottle (Live Retake),” “Fred Again Mashup,” as well as a number of Live acoustic versions of previously released songs, and “Bittersweet Symphony (Live)” just premiered August 26, 2024. I could list more, but this comment will likely get blocked by YT due to its length.

I re-subscribed today because I want to watch you discover this amazing artist, as we all have. You are right, this was a one-take, live performance. As most of us have discovered, Ren is a perfectionist at his craft and we have never stopped being awed by his talent. So, come join us down the Ren rabbit hole. The Tale of Jenny and Screech, and Violets Tale should be next. It is a trilogy that will have you open-mouthed for much of the story. See you soon😀

Perfect, poignant reaction, btw. That stunned silence says it all. First time I heard this, I sat… frozen and stunned stupid… for almost the entire thing. And then suddenly BURST into tears. And I’m NOT much of a crier.
Then I watched it about 5 times in a row and shared it with all of my family. Absolutely stunning performance piece. ☮️

Hell yeah, I'm here for it. You are in for a real journey. Some of my favorites: Murderer, Animal Flow (There's a video and a live version of these two both are worth the listen), Back on 74, Fred Again mash-up.
I'm looking forward to your Ren reactions, he's a unique artist.

Welcome to the world of Ren 👽
Great reaction!!! Yes, it is the MASTERPIECE of all masterpieces. Refreshing to see a reactor feel the music and recognise his lyrics are dynamically poetic🖤🖤🖤
