Don’t ever apologise for crying at Ren’s music. You are the first reactor I’ve seen mention the “choose if you die, choose if you survive” section. If Ren sees this reaction he’s going to absolutely love it.
Agreed, I have seen in the past Ren and even Chinchilla pop in on Comments. I am sure they love seeing people connect with their music like so many have.
I've been watching reactions to this song for over a year now. This was one of the most insightful, intelligent and heartfelt reactions I have seen. Loved it.
So have I and I don't get it. Isn't this just a display of human emotions. There is nothing profound or special about it. Just average random expression of something we all go through. Psychology is a testament the the abject failure of trying to fix what isn't broken. We need both, we all have the innate capability to deal with both but people are medicated, told what to do to cope with being human.... There is nothing wrong with you. You are not different from me in this way though my past might be covered in a lot more blood and the pretence that my anger is because of my service and somehow justified. Bullshit diagnosis of PTSD when it's just living a life. I wasn't made to be broken and twisted nor were you, just accept who you are and hold your head high instead of listening to that bullshit. We are who we are and there is nothing to be fixed about that. There is no hell below us and no heaven above, we are not special creations, we are just human beings not unlike any other animal here except for our capability for empathy which is what causes all of this. It is the most precious thing we have and it is the crucifying feeling of guilt that consumes you all at once. It is what you are, be proud of it, I'm proud of you for it.
@@michaelmay5453 i guess you don't know his story then. "I wasn't made to be broken and twisted nor were you, just accept who you are" Is easy said when you don't suffer from serious illness for nearly a decade without knowing whats happening to you, because of false diagnosis (he got lyme disease and psychosis). It seems all easy to you, just a matter of how you approach it, right? It's not. Not for everyone.
I’m a 57 y.o. Navy veteran. I’ve seen many things around the world. I’ve been exposed to a great variety of people, cultures, and music. Ren truly floored me with this one. Like you, tears streamed down my face. I wish someone had the talent, insight, and courage to have made this song/video/ART PIECE thirty years ago, when this incredible wisdom would have benefited me most. As an old dog, I’m grateful I’m still open to learning new tricks. Ren gives us some amazing wisdom here, “It was never really a battle for me to win…” This is so very true. I was a victim of my inner critic for many years. Fortunately, I connected with others who taught me to dance with that critic, to soften his words using self-empathy, to build strategies to overcome his fears, and to keep moving forward toward becoming the man I wanted to be. And, to no longer punish myself for being human, but continue to learn and grow. Yes, this piece of musical art is amazing. Hope to see you dive deep into the Reniverse, as Ren is an amazingly talented instrumentalist, singer, rapper, lyricist, storyteller, and enlightened human being. Before going any further on the Ren journey, I’d suggest reading up on him and what he’s been through. His story is inspirational, yet far from over. Warm wishes sent your way, a new follower.🥰
I love your comment. It sounds like you've become a wise young man and finally learned to dance the dance of just being you after all these years.🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Never apologize for crying to Hi Ren. I cried the first time I saw it more than a year ago and I cry again with every reactor... This video is supposed to make you cry. ;)
Countless reactions I've watched. Finally someone catches the end is him singing with reckless abandon with both sides of him in balance, the dark and the light in an eternal dance and him in the center singing victoriously. Thank you. And I cried with you after thinking I had no tears left for this piece, appreciate it.
Yes! You caught what I’d reached too as the basis / drive for the climax. Instead of picking the guitar while sitting and singing contralto (as he does at the intro, while the lights are steady), he’s up, dancing, strumming “wildly” and the lights are flashing, which previously symbolised the dark side. Great stuff, all of it.
I absolutely love that Ren and his music is capable of bringing all generations together. I have never and don’t think I’ll ever in my lifetime see someone as talented as Ren.
I too have reached 62, I never thought for a moment that someone would spark another musical interest in me. I have a very eclectic menu on what music I like but rap wasn't one of them (or Bjork for some reason) but after I found this gem and fell down the Ren rabbit hole I found that given a chance Rap can move me. His talent in all genres is really refreshing and I agree with you, he is absolutely the artist of my lifetime too.
I've just turned 60 and could not agree with you more. Lennon/McCartney - fabulous. Bowie - a game changer (so I thought). But this lad is on another level. Sorry, forgot my manners.... great reaction, NittPicc. Word of advice though, try to find a way to monetise "rabbit hole."
@@staticcentrehalf7166 I'm 70, my brother was a hit pop singer and street busker, and I've followed a variety of music all of my life. At 69, I discovered a talent, the like of which I had neither seen nor heard before - REN.
The "spiraling out of control" on guitar during the dark part, is actually really brilliant. Ren is playing tritones, also known as the "Devil's Interval". They're chords that were forbidden in writing music years ago, because most music was written for the Church and gods. They have an extremely chaotic, discordant sound, that almost makes them sound very uncomfortable and almost out of tune. The fact that Ren incorporates them into that dark part, is absolute genius.
@@reubennichols644 what's even more brilliant is that Ren is taking the moniker "Devil's Interval" to literally, double entendre. The word "interval" in itself, has more than one definition, the main one being a pause or break in activity, so to speak. Which is exactly what he did. He paused the song for a "Devils Interval", whilst playing tritones. The guys a fucking genius.
This is one of my very favorite parts of the song when he starts those tritones it seems like he's descending down into a cave or a tunnel in the Earth. In my mind I always think of this descent as the Drop. I just love it. It's so evil.😅🐣
For me it reminds of the 'Sympathy for the Devil track by The Rolling Stones, mostly in its context, but also that beat gets pretty out there too, although it's built up over the entire track, rather than in one verse as in Rens' track.
Ren is a survivor. His story is a voice for millions of people who suffer from chronic, mental and physical illnesses. Ren sings about the dark side of humanity and he makes it beautiful. He is also a cheeky, funny and goofy character. We, “Renegades”, are so proud of him & love him. Thank you for your honesty.
- " " R E N Is A S U R V I V O R . " " - Amen . Indeed . - - - And . . . Along With Himself . . . We Are A L L Greatly Benefiting From His - Courageous Tenacity .
People say Ren's this generation's Prince, but I'm a formally trained classical pianist (amateur), have played for 44 years, and I think we're looking more on the order of the next Mozart. That possibly sounds like a strange statement to a flautist who "only" has Hi Ren under her belt, but this guy is beyond the real deal. As you watch other Ren tracks, the level of genius will overwhelm you (beyond however much it's already overwhelmed you). - "You wanna be a big deal, next Jimi Hendrix?" Dark Ren asks mid-song; Ren shows you that despite not having taken guitar lessons, he can play a flamenco guitar pretty beautifully (I saw you leaning into his phrasing of the intro guitar line; it brought tears to my eyes because you know what you're hearing & you know what you're feeling & we don't always get reactors who "see" it). You'll enjoy the musical interludes in The Trilogy (the 13+ min video of Jenny/Screech/Violet). Violet's theme is some of my favourite melody in the history of music. Then of course there's his voice - you heard his Sting/reggae belt today in Hi Ren; wait until you hear what he does with Chinchilla. Chalk Outlines is one of my very favourite Ren songs, and other than the heavy autobiographical lyrics, it's utterly unlike Hi Ren. The mashup/retake he put out recently "Back on 74/Message in a Bottle" is another gorgeous vocal track, easy to recommend. Vocal harmonies? Chalk Outlines and How to Be Me with Chinchilla, and you HAVE H A V E to see Swan Song by his old band The Big Push. It's Gorran's song (the bassist) but it's not to be missed. (The Big Push is amazing, 3 creative geniuses who were bottled lightning together... later, they found a drummer, Glenn, and things got even better, but I don't know enough about him to make any claims about his creative genius like I can about Gorran and Romain). And he raps so well it brings rap fans to the table, and convinces those who never really paid much attention to rap, to count some of his rap songs as among their favourite Ren songs. The Hunger bent my brain when I first encountered it. Genesis is another huge fan favourite. Power is my personal anthem, though I don't get the sense from the rap fans among us that it ranks super high on the "ong this guy's an amazing rapper" tracks compared to some of his others. But it's brilliantly written, hugely uplifting message, and the hook is a whole brain worm. And there's Sick Boi, which vies with Chalk Outlines for top spot on my list. Murderer is another incredible video, and the hook is another unescapable ear worm. Bare minimum, he's the 21st century Bob Dylan, lyrically. It's not all heavy stuff; he writes plenty of fun tracks, but it's all brilliant writing on any number of levels. Some of his recent "fun" rap songs aren't my favourites but I can still respect the wordplay. He's an unmatched storyteller. The Jenny/Screech/Violet trilogy is the clear piece to point to here, but it permeates pretty much everything he does to some extent. And he's pretty much a self-taught pianist. He had a couple of lessons as a kid, but literally only a couple. He's not full-on a *Mozart* on the piano, but he's ridiculously competent and fully capable of expressing his musical genius on the keyboard. Tracks that are set to piano instead of guitar include Money Game 3 and For Joe... but I'd caution against going into For Joe until you've caught your breath a bit with Ren's personal journey. It's intense. Also his recent instrumental track Mackay (I find it to be a lovely piece but it's not my favourite style of composition. I'm impressed at how layered a composition it is, for someone who never went through formal lessons/theory/music composition). He apparently also can fart around on a cello and trombone although I don't believe we've seen that. You'll see that he composed a string quartet part for one of his songs. Quite successfully. Brings tears to my eyes. He plays bass like a madman (mostly with The Big Push, where the bassist sometimes picks up an acoustic & Ren takes the bass... Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard is an ASTONISHING performance by the whole band), and also has some ability to play drums. Before The Big Push found their drummer, Ren played drums for the band "when it was necessary" lol. He beatboxes. You'll hear it on The Hunger, and also one of the more recent hip hop songs I don't enjoy as much, Loco, where every sound on that track is made with his voice. Again, it may not be something I love, but you can't ignore the talent. You'll be blown away by the videos he puts out - they're amazing, and most if not all of them come from his head. He's said in interviews that a lot of the time the video is born in his head at the same time the song is being written. He directs almost all of them (possibly all), and up until now he's largely been the one editing them too. Some, he filmed himself, lol (Losing It and at least parts of What You Want; probably others too). Speaking of proeess with tech-in-art, he's also recorded and produced the bulk of all his music, including samples and beats, or however rap folks talk about "all the stuff that isn't the rapper rapping." As if THAT isn't enough, he enjoys creating music and video so much he and his main videographer Samuel Perry-Falvey (who was behind the camera for Hi Ren) are hoping to make a multimedia TV series of short-format films for something like Netflix. Again, watch Jenny/Screech/Violet; but also Money Game 1 (another of my very very very favourite Ren tracks) and Money Game 3, to get a sense of the kinds of things that might come out of that. He said Black Mirror-like, but with musical storytelling. There's still more to list, but this is way too long so I'll leave it at this. Super glad you were willing to share your vulnerability with us here on RUclips! I smashed the subscribe button at 5:00 because no matter how much more Ren you do, I'm quite certain I'll enjoy your content. ❤ (I mean, I hope you do All The Ren lol, but I'm interested to check out what else you get up to here).
@@charlieosstyngood observations, but it turns out that while the audio of Hi Ren is all one take, done live in that room, the video has bits of the 3 other takes edited into the cuts (see his interview with The Charismatic Voice, and others). Some/many Renegades (including myself) misunderstood in the early days of Hi Ren's release, and it's been an impossible little bit of misinformation to eradicate since then despite Ren mentioning the reality of it in a couple of interviews. Obviously, it's an AMAZING nine minute live performance whether the video was ALL from one runthrough or not, and it's also amazing that the audio *and* all of the video was captured in the 4 runthroughs they were able to capture before they were asked to leave the building. The confusion isn't helped by the fact that different people have different ideas about what a "one take" or a "one shot" is, and Ren's worded some things somewhat ambiguously himself on Twitch streams (not on purpose, I don't think; just the way his words came out in the moment. He was very clear about it in The Charismatic Voice interview, though).
Fabulous extended comment, well written & excellent advice for a new rabbit hole inductee to enter with 👏👏👏 Subscribed 3mins in, a wonderful genuine reaction & one of few to really understand the genius of the music/playing accompanying Ren’s lyrically “world affecting” masterpiece 👏👏👏🥰
The fact that you heard him accepting both voices on your first listen is pretty impressive. Welcome to the world of Ren. It's deep and dark, but still feels very nice...
This was a very intelligent and empathetic reaction. Ren does not shy away from deep and emotional topics in his work. Feel free to cry along with the rest of us Ren fans. Looking forward to more Ren reactions from you.
Thank you for sharing your first experience with Ren (Gill) ...I have watched dozens of reactions to this amazing video and you "got it" more deeply and accurately than most.... Love You gtirl.....there will no doubt be hundreds of "Ren-egades" soon posting behind me and they will direct you to the countless treasures to be found in Ren's catalog....do check out the "Tale of Jenny and Screech (full trilogy) for a true taste of his "Bard-core" genius.....his two collaborations with his fellow (and at the time also independent)artist/vocalist Chinchilla "Chalk Outlines" & "How to be Me"....(Chinchilla is a force ...a Must View is her "Fingers" live versioh...from there for Ren....just enjoy the brilliance ..... oh btw for a more joyful and soulful taste...check out his newest "Back on 74/Message In a Bottle" retake.... Ren will be releasing a new album on May 9.....these two have changed my perspective on music "today"....so happy you joined the new wave of hope and joy......Thank you again for your time and efforts....
Yeah, Ren is utterly remarkable. His performances are always top notch. Video (and probably live) is his medium. "Some people know me as the voice you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope." is one of the best single lines I've ever heard. Such a tough song, dark, honest, but ultimately so beautiful and optimistic. Hopeful, indeed. It's hard to go wrong with this guy, but two that top the list for me (I love the dark stuff, so be forewarned) are "Chalk outlines" with Chinchila (she also has an amazing voice) and the full trilogy of "The Tale of Jenny and Screech."
I’m in my 50’s now and this is one of the most important and impactive pieces of music I have seen in years, Ren is very special and one of the most important artist of the last decade
Ren has a unique way of communicating and connecting with the audience. Seeing someone *not* cry is far more rare than seeing reactors cry when listening to his heavier subject songs.
The reason why i like miss Nittpic is... She is SO empathic and you can see ALL emotions in her facial expressions.. She's not holding back and you can see her reactions are NOT fake just for the likes. She's sometimes a feisty happy Latina but she can feel the emotion in music for sure. She would be the kinda woman i would like to sit with on a remote mountain top at sunset while she plays the flute and i play the kazoo ( cause i cant play anything else) That will NEVER happen😀 but i enjoy her reactions. ANDALE señora.. Love from Amsterdam. ❤🤟
This song has brought me to tears so many times. you need to look up his mental history as he has struggled so much in his short life. He is getting much better after some intensive therapy and medical backing in Canada and US. He is an amazing artist who puts his whole heart into is music and art.
Random internet guy here. Please, never apologize for being human with a heart and sharing your true feelings. It’s what connects us as people. You’re amazing. 😉
In case you didn't know. He developed Lyme disease as a kid and doctors misdiagnosed him for a decade and told him it was all just in his head. This is what led him to his mental illness that he talks about. If you're interested in his music, check out his song Sick Boi. It really shows off his musical style and shows a glimpse into his thought process
Exactly. All of the comments coming from medical professionals about his being mentally and not physically ill coupled with all the medications they gave him which he didn't really need would be enough to drive anyone mad. His resilience is phenomenal.
I have watched 100s if not 1000s of reactions to this (and others by Ren). You are quick to pick up stuff! Upper 10% at least. I've not seen anyone pick up on the "failing courage" of "good Ren" right before the "evil takeover."
No matter how many times I see this performance from Ren, it always hits me hard, the way it should. Thanks so much to you for giving us such an honest and unflinching response to it. We love you, too NittPicc. And thanks again to Ren for giving us all that shock of brutal honesty that we need to hear.
I'm 63 and have been very inspired by Ren's music, a true renaissance artist. And your honest and vulnerable response was one of the best out there. Very insightful.
4:40 I always appreciate good musical observations. Liked and subscribed. Ren's catalogue could probably be an entire course of music education. *Edit: I appreciate your empathy and respect your courage in showing it.
This is the guy you think you see way off in the distance between you and a million people jumping up and down waving his arms and yelling everything is going to be okay. And you say thank you, I needed that.
Oh my goodness young lady, you totally belong in the Reniverse ❤, you understand him like we do, it frustrates me when others go 'meh' when they hear him, I truly believe that when you react to Ren with a 'meh', luckily for you, you haven't experienced any stress in your life, whether that be mental or physical , this young man is beyond his years, which besides his utterly raw talent is why we adore him ❤
Doubt you’ll see this 8 months later, but as soon as I noticed your voice cracking a little and could see the tears welling up in your eyes, I started getting emotional, I wanted to reach out and give you a hug. I watch reactions to this song constantly and have since it came out and cry during most of them but not as early as I did with yours. You are a truly amazing interpreter of this song….. you gave me some insight into this song that even after a year or so I hadn’t quite been able to interpret. You can tell the people who have struggled or know someone who is or did struggle with mental, physical or emotional issues. Because they cry or their voice becomes shaky, your the first person I’ve wanted to give a hug too…. Sorry if that seems weird or makes you uncomfortable, it’s coming from the heart and want to empathize and sympathize. Which is rare for me. I suffer from adhd, prob on the spectrum(autism spectrum)bpd (border line personality disorder),from depression, rage issues and antisocial personality disorder bordering on sociopathy. So as I’m sure you can imagine, for me to feel empathy and sympathy is rare. And for me to comment on it even more rare. Idk why I felt the need to share that but sometimes the comment section of truly beautiful people(heart, mind and soul) is the only place I feel comfortable enough to show emotion. Big love to you and thank you for your insight and vulnerability, never apologize for your emotions, we want real raw reactions. Not just someone who watches and speaks but shows no true connection. I hope everything is well with you and that you are happy and have people around you that deserve you, you are a light in the darkness. At least to me, and from the few comments I’ve read, seems like many more. I wish you great success and offer my greatest respect. 🤟🏻
I’m 62 which almost sounds like an echo at this point. I have been watching Ren since late February last year. I was introduced to him by The Fairy Voice Mother and have watched almost every reaction on RUclips and have never commented before. There was something special about the way you reacted that made me put down the TV remote find my phone and write to you. Thank you for the honest reaction and I will be watching for more. Most likely in silence but you never know 👍
Thank you for your beautiful reaction. I don't think you missed a thing! I believe you interpreted Ren's song perfectly. One of the best reactions I've seen. So heartfelt and on point. Many people miss the ending where the dark and light join and learn to live and dance together. New subscriber ❤❤
You are not the first person to cry whilst listening to this performance, and you won't be the last. Never apologise for showing your feelings. This was actually a great and insightful reaction, and you will have many new followers. Take care, and enjoy your Ren journey. I've liked and subscribed.
Thank you for your emotional openness and vulnerability. I pray for a world in which nobody ever again has to say "I'm sorry" for crying, for showing their emotions. Thank you for being you 🙏🫂💚
I could see Ren doing a one man show off Broadway., much like Whoopie Goldberg did in her early career. His use of theatrical devices to enhance the stories he tells is becoming legendary. The videographers he chooses deserve a great deal of credit as well. Talent attracts talent.
Wildwoodson, Ren and Samuel Perry Falvey have been friends since Samuel was 15 and Ten 17. There's a great interview with Falvey. Can't remember the interviewers name at the moment, but if you search Perry Valley it's bound to surface
I’ve watched hundreds of reactions to this song over the past year and this is one of the absolute best. I love seeing your emotions come out as well as the incredibly detailed breakdown of everything in the song (meaning, music, cameras, everything). I’m incredibly impressed. I’m a 41 year old man and I still cry every time I hear this song.
I’ve been watching reaction videos to this song for months and you are the first person that I’ve seen that mentioned the “beat” of the “bad Ren”. I picked up on that too and I think that it sounds like a clock, the ticking poking at him as he is riddled with these thoughts. He is sitting in silence and stuck in his head. In fact, I think that the whole room is his head, and these thoughts keep him feeling like he is in that chair. I also noticed that the beginning of the song is like a gong or bell which lends an eerie buildup. It sounds like an undertaker is coming for him. Finally, I’ve never seen anybody mention that the whole song symbolizes what he describes at the end as a battle between the light and darkness. The harder he fights these thoughts, the stronger that they come back and the song ends the same way that it began because he keeps going in these circles and so he must “soften and relax” and accept this part of himself (ourselves).
Nothing better than watching a new reactor get the deep message of this amazing performance, really enjoyed your heartfelt reaction and appreciation of this stunning artist. There are so many brilliant tracks by Ren, he is so diverse it is crazy. I would highly recommend Chalk Oulines ( the Live version ) and it is a great introduction to his beautiful vocals , that said his latest track " Back to 74 " is out of this world. Subbed as I am so looking forward to more Ren.
53 years old hip hop rock blues fan and I watch reactions to this now just to have someone to get a little cry in with. Great reaction to an amazing young artist
New sub here from Arizona, I'm here for any and all Ren reactions. As a 53 year old music lover my whole life, Ren has reconfigured my mind for the better and REN-EWED my heart & soul by making me really hear music for the 1st time in my life! Great reaction! 😊 what an amazing journey awaits you! And never say sorry for crying, Ren has made me cry more time than I can count and no artist has ever done that to me before!! (Ren video #4,258)
What a great reaction!! Im 56, hated rap and now finding Ren and his wonderful music and rabit hole. He will make you laugh and cry. His own struggle with Lymes disease and mental health has hit so many but got people talking more. Look forward to more Ren and his friends music. ❤🙏
Welcome to the Ren roller-coaster. He is genuinely beautiful inside and out. All his songs are worth reacting to. He also doesn't copy stirke his songs, so reactors don't have to pause. Keep up the good work.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. Ren combines an incredible multi-genre talent with amazing and authentic courage. He confronts the true experiences that go unmentioned in society. And he performs open heard surgery on himself with his music and lets us sit on his shoulder. I, too, have watched hundreds of reactions to his songs in search of getting to experience that first listen again while sitting on your shoulder. Thank you for having the courage to post your vulnerability and tears. I'm 53 and crying right now with you. God, I love it! You have to be strong to show your vulnerability. Subbed and belled. You spotted the classical vs acoustic guitar. You got the camera changes. You let me experience the exquisite FEELING of being moved with you. Not all his work is so face leaky but it is all done with amazing skill and creativity. Buy tissues in bulk, though.
This is definitely the most respectful, in depth reaction that I’ve seen. I love how we listen and you stop, explain some techniques and then lead us in watching it again. This song speaks my internal dialogue. But, knowing how he musically creates the spiraling, the 2 different voices helped me to better connect w the song. I get so excited for lessons like this. And NEVER apologize for your tears. Never apologize for connecting so deeply to a song that it takes you into the emotions. (The song could be a book, could be a piece of art, it could be the forest, the water, a friend.)
You said to let you know what you missed. Nothing. Of the dozens of reaction videos of this that I have watched before yours, you are the only one that really gets the song. And I learned so much of the musical aspects that no other reactor or myself noticed. I'm talking musicians, therapists, suicide survivors, vocal and music coaches, rappers, rockers, producers, composers, somebodies, nobodies, ...... I cried and still cry throughout this song. It was so refreshing to watch someone else cry, and for a good reason. Although some people have found it funny in the beginning or spooky, all seem to find relatable and profound by the end. Many eventually cry. I battle depression and this hits me, really hits me. Gives me hope. Thank you for your understanding of this song.
I am so happy that RUclips recommended your video to me. As someone who suffers from severe depression and anxiety, this song really says all the things I can´t. I see it as an anthem to us who are misdiagnosed, misunderstood and, in general, not taken seriously. And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your genuine, honest and uncensored reaction to this. This might sound strange but your tears make me feel seen. Thank you.
People lament that they cannot recreate the feeling of seeing this masterpiece for the first time. That's why we watch reactions. But honestly, I'm sad that I will never get to experience your reaction for the first time again. Brilliant and knowledgeable analysis and breakdown of the music, of course, but seeing how you "get it" and how it affects you, had me tearing up right along with you. I've watched probably 200 people react to this song and that is very, very rare. Thank you for this and best wishes for you as you continue to grow your channel.
Hi , am a big ren admirer and have whatch a lot of ren reaction but yours is the best one I have ever seen, to say that was your first ren introduction, that was amazing,. You nailed every point he was conveying so perfectly, his struggles, his strength and pointed the differences in his guitar playing for the two different personas and showed me things I had missed, you are brilliant, keep up the good work, I will be watching ❤
His music is extremely raw. He doesn’t hold back at all with the emotion. You can feel the venom in the words of his inner voice and hear his voice on the edge of breaking in the response. It’s something a lot of people can relate too and hear their own inner voices represented in his struggle as well. We are all humans here and everyone has their owns struggles they have been through and that they face. There is nothing to be ashamed of in crying. We are all here on this journey with him together and I tear up every single time I’ve heard this song.
Welcome to the Renegade family. You are loved and supported here. This is gonna be a wild ride going down this rabbit hole. He takes you through every emotion through basically every genre. He is a modern day Bard, and I look forward to you continuing your journey! Definitely recommend doing Chalk Outlines, and How to be Me, next. You will subsequently discover ANOTHER amazing artist named Chinchilla.
You carry a lot of hurt within yourself, I can tell because I had the same reaction watching this performance for the first time. It helped me a lot because I felt less alone with my struggles realizing so many are going through theirs. There's a community here, reach out whenever you feel the need to, it really does help. Beautiful and honest reaction. Thank you.
This is why we come to watch reactions for his music. We have all gone through that first initial reaction. We can never get that back. Your reaction was exactly how I reacted to it first. I cried for like an hour after watching it. It's raw, it's relatable, and it's a truth we all know inside of us.
When I started my work as a therapist (30 years ago) I was taken in by the idea that we had to be positive at all times; and, in the circles I moved in, people would even pick me up on the word 'but'. 'You should say, "and" instead, Alan.' It seemed ridiculous that if I said , 'I want to go for a walk, but it's raining' someone would say it should be, 'I want to go for a walk, and it's raining.' It didn't make sense, and it didn't convey the message. It really is okay to say 'but'! And it's more than okay to have 'negative' thoughts. In fact, they're vital to your quality of life. Let me explain. The whole dogma of having to be 'positive' at all times makes no sense. Ask a business person to look only at the benefits of an investment, for instance, and ignore costs, risks, etc and they'll think you're crazy. They'll rightly say, 'I need to look at both sides - not just one!' Indeed. We do need to consider the upside AND the downside. When you buy something you want to know what you will get from it, AND what it will cost. I helped my clients best by saying they needed to look at the 'costs' as well as the benefits of anything. For instance, it's true that the benefits of gambling can be huge, but usually gambling causes financial loss, and can lead to a life-destroying addiction. Ignoring these possible costs is incredibly unwise. In time, the term, 'Toxic Positivity' emerged in Psychology. I embraced it whole-heartedly. It pointed out that just as 'negative' thoughts can be toxic, so too can 'positive' ones. Positive thoughts can be so extreme that, for instance, they may induce you to act incautiously in the belief that you're 'bound' to succeed. Toxic Positivity may tell us something can be done easily when in reality it requires masses of hard work. Another example is that we can over-estimate the likely rewards. These 'positive' delusions can badly affect our quality of life. When you change your perception, just as Ren has done, and learn that these two 'voices' are 'two sides of the same coin' then your battle starts to subside. You realise that some downside thoughts are unhelpful - they can tell us we aren't able to do things that objectively we know we can, for instance; or claim our chances of success are far less than they truly are. But downside thoughts can be helpful. They may make us take necessary precautions, look at things in a balanced way, and decide to do something that involves less risk. So, instead of battling your thoughts - 'positive' or 'negative' - you can welcome them all. You can explore each one - not to see whether it's encouraging you to do something or discouraging you - but to discover whether it's true and accurate. When you change your perceptions like this, you want to know both the costs and possible benefits of any action. You don't want false information. As you explore your thoughts in this way, you realise that many of your thoughts are helpful, but others are unhelpful. As Ren says, this is not about David versus Goliath, but simply truth-seeking so you can decide how to live in a realistic and honest way with yourself. In practise, you can welcome any thought - whether it's a 'take action' thought or an 'avoid doing it' thought. You can then question it: 'Is this true?' 'Is this accurate?' 'Is this helpful?'. So all thoughts give us an opportunity to see life and ourselves in a more realistic way. Every unhelpful thought is no longer an 'enemy' to be destroyed, but an opportunity to learn more about how you think and to improve the accuracy of your thoughts. You can start to dance with your thoughts, unafraid of that destructive voice, willing to discuss its claims with it, and to undermine the false info your thoughts can give you. As Ren says, we aren't gods, angels or demons. They don't debate with themselves, they have no counter voice - with them it's all clear and simple. We're human; we have conflicting thoughts all the time. But this gives us the opportunity to improve our lives if we cease the battle and embrace all of them, exploring them to see whether they are unhelpful or helpful. Changing unhelpful thoughts can take a long time, but every time you explore them you get nearer to developing more helpful ones. Good luck everyone.
Wow. Thank you you just made me realize something that' actually should have been obvious. I usually run from the negative thoughts I have or just shut them down entirely...Next time, I'm going to stop and ask them what they want to tell me and listen. Peace ✌️
Beautiful reaction, thank you for feeling so much and sharing that with us. Really enjoyed the musical insights. Would love some more Ren reactions (I'm a bit of addict). 💙 Keep stepping forwards.
I have a stand alone private playlist just for my favourite ren hi ren reaction videos, had it for over a year. But i just made a new one, for only your reaction, titled "hi ren reactor that truly gets it like i do". Thank you for your vulnerable and authentic reaction, it is beautiful. Xx
One of the most perceptive reactions to this ever. I look forward to more from you. I believe This video represents 4 stages of Ren's life journey. 1/ during the intro instrumental part with his unique vocalizations, prior to lyrics, while the lights are not flickering.....is "artist Ren" struggling to create a new beautiful song. 2/ flickering lights.... His creativity is interrupted by "negative Ren" telling him his music is bad and give up. 3/ solid lights....is Ren trying to take back control from the negative Ren. 4/ flickering lights after lyrics and the more powerful instrumental....is "artist Ren" with a healthier mind and he is back to creating his beautiful song with more power and confidence because he has "learned to relax, learned to soften and that dance got easier."
Ren is a savant. He is an experience that flips a switch somewhere inside you, and you feel different somehow. It feels like he draws out every emotion I have ever tried to dismiss or push down, and asks them to dance. There is so much beauty in that breakdown.
You got it exactly. I feel your own pain and I've felt it too. This song has been so helpful to me, especially the idea of it not being a battle, but a dance. That you can't fight or get rid of those parts of yourself, but you can learn to accept and live with them and dance with them so you can move on and find joy.
Also, this was filmed and recorded as a live one-take. Several cameras, but all one performance. Some of his videos have a cut/edit in them, but many don't.
I heard that it took only 4 takes to get what they wanted in Hi Ren. Perry-Falvey said in an interview that it took 183 takes to get Money Game, part 1. Haven't heard how many takes for Money Game, part 2 yet
Magnificent reaction! I have watched scores of people react to Ren's masterpiece, and you managed to pick out a few nuances all the others missed. Great job, and congrats. You have just reacted to the greatest piece of performance art, so far, in this millennium. Please do more Ren and look for Ren/Chinchilla.
What an awesome reaction! I’ve seen most of them and yours was so insightful, beautiful & genuine! Thank You! Ren helps me evolve as a human being and his artistry gives us so many blessings!
I’m a 56 year old man and cried too. I’m sure millions have this kind of internal dialect. Writing this just as you cried. There’s no shame in that; it shows empathy. But just wait til the end when he stands up.
A Ren song without emotion is a Ren song with the volume too low. Thank you, I cried too which I don’t do much to Hi Ren anymore but your raw emotions were so real I could not stop the tears. Ren does this to me. Thank you so much.
This was my first time seeing one of your reactions. Great job. I have watched probably 100 Hi Ren reactions. I look for the emotion in the reactor. Plus I love when you can also analyze the music and guitar playing. So this reaction gave me everything I like. One thing the crying is exactly what makes me really feel the emotions. So don't be ashamed and cut it out. Will check out more videos.
Didn't write a comment earlier, but decided I needed to. I have watched a lot of reactions to this song (your reaction like 10 times already) and yours is my favorite. Don't ever feel the need to apologize for reacting to a song emotionally, it happens to all of us. I cried like 6-7 times watching this song when I found it. But I also love it. It is so raw (as is your reaction). I know as little about Ren as you do, but damn, this song man. So clever and so honest. Wow!
Absolutely loved your reactions. Subscribing for more Ren reactions. I think before you react to any more of his songs, you should react to Ren's " what is success, getting one million you tube followers." You notice that at the end of hi ren, another one of his videos/songs "Sick boi" is advertised. That song is a naturally continuation of "Hi Ren" or vice versa depending on your perspective. Lots of reactors have done that one as their 2nd Ren song. And while, no doubt, you will come across, react to,and be suggested a lot of his "heavier" songs or subject matter, I think it's really important for you to expose yourself to his lighter, simply "fun" music so keep tracks like "Humble," "Ocean," "what you want," Losing it," "the hunger," "Uninvited," "Loco," "1990es," "Love Music parts 1 -4 " etc. The themes of mental health appear often but not allow his music is depressing. As you hopefully go down the Ren rabbit hole, you will come across another artist "Chinchilla" who Ren calls like a."musical sibling" that I think you'll like which hopefully become its own separate rabbithole to go down. Keep up the great work
Wow - I've been a Ren Reaction junkie since Hi Ren first came out, have likely seen hundreds of Hi Ren reactions and this was one of the Best🎉 So observant, insightful & sensitive - I felt all you felt - don't apologise for the tears - us Renegades seem to have a perverse love for crying with you, the Reactors - it's a validation of our feelings too. I'm here as this was posted as a highly recommended reaction on my RENactions! FB group I set up for Renegades like myself who can't get enough of watching, and re-experiencing vicariously, the impact of Ren's genius artistry. I do hope, if you wish to delve into Ren's vast back catatlogue of multi-genre music (please, please do more! Chalk Outlines (Live), The Tales Trilogy (full) in particular), that you will join us there and promote your Ren Reactions as you do them (we have a few other Reactors there too) - members are very happy to support the algorhythms of the Reactors there x
Empaths and just empathetic people .... I watch Ren reactions because it's good to see that the world isn't as cold and calloused as it usually feels. To me it makes me feel validated that... Idk... that I feel too much sometimes. Idk... Thank you for your honest and raw reaction
Girl, I don't know anyone who hasn't gotten emotional listening to Ren's stuff! Never apologise for being real! You can appreciate it in him. We appreciate it in you!
I think this masterpiece is so powerful and masterfully written and played out that it could be considered as powerful and impactful as some religious texts. The difference here is that this is relatable to every single human on the planet bar psychopaths as they do not possess the ability to feel empathy so they wouldn't be able to relate to this dichotomy. This piece i would argue is the most accurate and well done depiction of the age old eternal inner struggle of the human mind. Regardless of the severity of our struggle it is still so spot on and i believe most people connects with it on some level. The level of that connection is ofc as subjective as our struggles are.
Young lady, I have listened to this masterpiece EASILY 100 times. Reactors, Official, back and forth. Yours was one of the most profound, sincere, and touching reactions I have seen in the year since I first became aware of this video. In addition to your strong musical knowledge and experience, you showed a deep and meaningful connection to your (and our) humanity. As many times as I've heard it, I was crying right along with you! Warm tears, flowing freely. You're great! I am SO glad I found and subscribed to you months ago. Quite the artistic distance between Dirty Loops (my introduction to you 3 months ago when I first subscribed) and today with Ren, huh?? They may be similar in their mastery and their artistry... but they're styles are so vastly divergent!! You rock!!
Don’t ever apologise for crying at Ren’s music. You are the first reactor I’ve seen mention the “choose if you die, choose if you survive” section. If Ren sees this reaction he’s going to absolutely love it.
She has picked up on things that I’ve held all along and never heard anyone before and I have watched maybe 100 videos and reactions
@@ldlisonbeeTrue, I was surprised as well.
And Ren does watch reactions... he loves reactors
@@gabrielstratton1775 someone should send him the link, I honestly think he would love her reaction and analysis.
@@sirluis5043 It's "I was made to be broken and twisted" as we all are.
Yes same here. Hands down most intelligent and moving reaction yet

Love your reaction enjoy the Reniverse it's full of surprises every track 🔥✌️❤️🏴.

Perfectly & beautifully said 👏👏❤️
I love your comment. It sounds like you've become a wise young man and finally learned to dance the dance of just being you after all these years.🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
What ships were you on?
Do not apologize for crying; That just shows you understood what this was.
Well read the comments😂
Exactly the same here with me.
I'm 62 and this young man is quickly becoming the artist of my lifetime 🇬🇧😊
At 69, I discovered a talent, the like of which I had neither seen nor heard before - REN.
same here 61
The "spiraling out of control" on guitar during the dark part, is actually really brilliant.
Simon . You Are The Reason That Love
Reading Many Of The Comments . I ' m
Researching " " Tritones " " Right Now .
W O W ! ! ! Very Enlightening .
I love that you have mentioned this, it is truly brilliant 👏👏

The mashup/retake he put out recently "Back on 74/Message in a Bottle" is another gorgeous vocal track, easy to recommend.

to see Swan Song by his old band The Big Push.
Speaking of proeess with tech-in-art, he's also recorded and produced the bulk of all his music, including samples and beats, or however rap folks talk about "all the stuff that isn't the rapper rapping."
As if THAT isn't enough, he enjoys creating music and video so much he and his main videographer Samuel Perry-Falvey (who was behind the camera for Hi Ren) are hoping to make a multimedia TV series of short-format films for something like Netflix.
(I mean, I hope you do All The Ren lol, but I'm interested to check out what else you get up to here).
You missed a few things in your observations, read my comment .... it explains it, see above ...
Wow, what a great write up. So knowledgeable. Ren's fans are the best and so talented. 😊

Thanks for not using "limes..." I suffer more from the mispronouncafacation than the actual disease 😪
I have watched 100s if not 1000s of reactions to this (and others by Ren). You are quick to pick up stuff! Upper 10% at least. I've not seen anyone pick up on the "failing courage" of "good Ren" right before the "evil takeover."
If you don't cry during something Ren does, your probably a robot. The absolute humanity in much of what he does is undeniable.
I absolutely LOVE this reaction, always such a gift to have a musician share their breakdown.

Ren's catalogue could probably be an entire course of music education.
*Edit: I appreciate your empathy and respect your courage in showing it.
Ren reactions are a form of group therapy. His music is incredibly powerful. ❤
That's how I use it. I Need to cry? It's almost like a shoulder.
This is the guy you think you see way off in the distance between you and a million people jumping up and down waving his arms and yelling everything is going to be okay. And you say thank you, I needed that.
Oh my goodness young lady, you totally belong in the Reniverse ❤, you understand him like we do, it frustrates me when others go 'meh' when they hear him, I truly believe that when you react to Ren with a 'meh', luckily for you, you haven't experienced any stress in your life, whether that be mental or physical , this young man is beyond his years, which besides his utterly raw talent is why we adore him ❤
Welcome to the world of Ren. You're in for a wild ride. He has such a huge catalog and it's all great.
I have seen a ton of these reactions and nothing compares to yours, such a poignant and honest discovery.
Danged spellchecker. Ren, not ten. Falvey, not valley
You cried just as hard as I did watching this. Thank you for being so vulnerable and sharing
Welcome to Ren,enjoy the ride,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I've seen so many reactions of "Hi Ren". You by far picked up more details than anyone!
A very powerful reaction to REN. You are right on point with this response. Hope REN leaves you a message. He often thanks his reviewers. Serenity!
You sharing your true reaction and emotions with the world is beautiful. Never apologize for that.
I’m a 48 year old man with a business and this song never fails to make me cry.
Never apologize for feeling. Express yourself how you need. ❤❤
Aah. My two favorite songs. He and Chinchilla are beautiful together
Thank you.
I’ve watched hundreds of reactions to Hi Ren and didn’t stop crying until after at least 50 of them
This is why we come to watch reactions for his music. We have all gone through that first initial reaction. We can never get that back. Your reaction was exactly how I reacted to it first. I cried for like an hour after watching it. It's raw, it's relatable, and it's a truth we all know inside of us.
From one musician to another, this was a great reaction!
Please don't ever stifle the emotions that Ren draws out. We are all crying with you. Great reaction video! New sub.
When I started my work as a therapist (30 years ago) I was taken in by the idea that we had to be positive at all times; and, in the circles I moved in, people would even pick me up on the word 'but'. 'You should say, "and" instead, Alan.'
It seemed ridiculous that if I said , 'I want to go for a walk, but it's raining' someone would say it should be, 'I want to go for a walk, and it's raining.' It didn't make sense, and it didn't convey the message.
Peace
✌️
Beautiful reaction, thank you for feeling so much and sharing that with us. Really enjoyed the musical insights. Would love some more Ren reactions (I'm a bit of addict). 💙 Keep stepping forwards.
I have a stand alone private playlist just for my favourite ren hi ren reaction videos, had it for over a year. But i just made a new one, for only your reaction, titled "hi ren reactor that truly gets it like i do". Thank you for your vulnerable and authentic reaction, it is beautiful. Xx
Very cool. 😎
If Ren doesn't get the emotions out of you then you're not listening. Beautiful reaction.
Thank you for reacting to this song. I had the same reaction as you when i first saw this video. Ren is phenomenal.
Beautiful reaction to this important masterpiece! I hope you continue to explore Ren and his music. He's a revelation! ❣️🦇❣️🦇❣️🦇❣️
You got it exactly. I feel your own pain and I've felt it too. This song has been so helpful to me, especially the idea of it not being a battle, but a dance. That you can't fight or get rid of those parts of yourself, but you can learn to accept and live with them and dance with them so you can move on and find joy.
I think almost everyone has cried watching this powerful performance
And it doesn't matter if you hear it the first time or you heard a hundred times before.
Never apologize for crying. As a slightly emotionally damaged being, I truly, honestly appreciate the raw emotion you are sharing with us.
Don't apologize... I'm pretty sure Ren has made us ALL cry at one time or another ❤
Makes me cry too. Beautiful soul, so proud of him from the UK, Respect.
You are amazing and it was a beautiful reaction allowing yourself to be vulnerable. Be blessed.
I think everyone who seek for REN reactions definately expects you crying. Because we all cried
If you want to see just how each of his songs can vary from one another and they all be fire, check out his "Back on 74/Message in a bottle retake"
Keep up the great work
Losing It is a masterpiece but in a totally different way compared to Hi Ren. He's so very talented
I’ve watched @ least 50 full reactions 2 Hi Ren. None have been as thoughtful and heartfelt as this! I stopped what I was doing 2 cry wit u! Thank u!
❤ renegades mount up ❤
Saddled and ready.
I'm 10 hrs late and this room has exploded with Renegades...love it. 🤗
Reporting for duty…😅

Hi, I’ve watched a bunch of reactions to this song and yours is the most real, beautiful and insightful.
Bless you
Girl, I don't know anyone who hasn't gotten emotional listening to Ren's stuff! Never apologise for being real! You can appreciate it in him. We appreciate it in you!
Well done.....
Yap that's life
Young lady, I have listened to this masterpiece EASILY 100 times. You rock!!
