@@redbonetony22 I thought it was supposed to be for Bus Rapid Transit. In any case I'm usually the kind of person who would advocate for more lanes and roads where I think they're necessary, but this is a bridge where a couple of railroad lines would be better.
4:03 I'm more intrigued by the "Long Bridge Ahead, Check Gas" sign. I have family that lives in the Tampa area so I've traveled on this I-275 quite a few times (it makes a close pass by the airport). The Sunshine Skyway bridge is fun to travel over!
75 originally terminated in Tampa at I-4. When they extended 75 south, they got the old switcheroo. You might already know that, but I like providing random facts.
If you go to one of the islands (Anna Maria, Shell Key) the view is so beautiful, especially at night with all the lights on it. It always left me with a good vibe. It’s just awesome
I’ve been to the Tampa Bay Area in the summer of 2011 while my dad was attending a business conference there. Got to visit some major attractions like the Pier in St. Petersburg, the Florida Aquarium along the downtown Tampa waterfront, and Lowry Park and Busch Gardens just north of downtown. Oh, and we took a late afternoon drive through the Ybor City district. Anyways, this spur route is quite simple for me. North Port-St. Petersburg-Tampa-University-Wesley Chapel-Ocala Two of the six probably don’t need explaining, and I’ve made my opinion known on a third, so I’ll focus on the other three. I can’t imagine anyone would take the Sunshine Skyway out of St. Petersburg just to go north, so I default onto I 75 southbound, and go with the next metro over: North Port. It is the same one as Sarasota and Bradenton, but is more populous, and is actually on I 75 proper (but US 19 S being signed for Bradenton is good). I wouldn’t sign Naples until after Cape Coral and Fort Myers. As for the two immediately north of Tampa, I chose them as they are among the bigger population centers in the Tampa Bay metro area, even if they aren’t incorporated. I actually found that in the primary county, Hillsborough (the other metro counties being Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando), only a third of the county population is in incorporated areas. Outside of the obvious implication that they rely on the county for services (my home state of Nevada has less than two dozen actually incorporated cities; everything else is a CDP), this means that (especially along the stretch north of the city), it’d be helpful to know where exactly one is. I usually put together a list of musical acts in these regional videos, but there aren’t really many famous acts from this area. The most that I could find was Rod Wave from the St. Petersburg metro region (Pinellas County), and the Bellamy Brothers from the Tampa metro region (specifically Pasco County).
Thanks! When you get to US 6 eastern, please show the intersection of US 6 WB coming off the Sagamore Bridge with MA 3 which heads for Plymouth, my hometown, and Boston. This intersection is the former Sagamore Rotary, a notorious bottleneck which was replaced in 2006 with the current interchange, a flyover.
For US 6 Eastern, I have 3 Requests: 1. US 6 and IL 171. IL 171 takes you to the town that my Mom is from: Lemont, IL. 2. The Meeting with US 62 in PA. US 62 SB is signed for Tidioute and Tionesta. These two Towns are a horrible choice for 62 as the combined population is 1K. Truly a PennDOT Moment 😂 3. US 6 meeting MA 3 in Cape Cod. MA 3 takes you to Plymouth which has some rich History with the Pilgrims and Thanksgiving.
Until the local airport expanded its routes, we would fly into Tampa for our vacations and take 275 down to Sarasota. Driving over that much water was an experience.
11:51 ok, I had this exact scenario play out last week. I went to st Pete beach on the same day as a Bucs game, so the 275 NB traffic to I-4 was horrendous (staying in Kissimmee). GPS said it would be about the same amount of time to cross the skyway and go back up 75 to 4 as it would be to go 275 NB, so I chose the former as I wanted to see the Skyway lit up at night.
Before they (FDOT) built the new one in 93, the old one was called the Frankenstein because most of the time there was an accident and there were no emergency lanes, so yeah, a monster (for rush hour traffic). Edited because this was originally a Google voice recording.
2:13 this is the part of 275 I recognize, parents had a time share in Orlando and my Aunt lives in Oldsmar.. so I remember this and all the accidents on I-4.. 4:22 This was my Aunts exit off of 275 60 past the airport onto the untolled part of 589 via a shunpike route to Hillsborough Ave which eventually turns to Tampa Rd right at the Pinellas County line in Oldsmar. 5:00 New Channel Idea "Control Station Freak" where we talk about trains and the stations that they are signed to go to" Maybe when Denver starts a commuter train with a control station of Limon 😂
I live just north of here in Pasco County. Traffic is atrocious. No other option. They need commuter rail into the cities. South from Pasco. but also from the east. Brightline has long range plans to Tampa so that's a start. There's a little used CSX line along US 41 from Pasco and Hernando that can be upgraded, as well as the CSX S-Line along US 301.
The Brooksville Subdivision along US 41 and the Wildwood Subdivision along US 301. I know them well. Commuter service would be good for the Brooksville Sub, but there needs to be a major rebuild of Downtown Land O'Lakes. I rode Amtrak from Dade City to NYC on my first Amtrak ride. I was disappointed to find they were cutting back service on that line in 2004.
Agree with you signing 275 and 75 for Gainesville instead of Ocala, if not Atlanta. Also love your pronunciation of Bearss Ave. Da Bears were one Hail Mary away from being 5-2 and all NFC North teams with at least 5 wins already. PS Look forward to US 6 next week. Love highways out west.
The most feasible rail option over the bay would have to light rail. That way it easily climb over the shipping channels in Tampa Bay. Regular rail service would require a draw or lift bridge and that'd be a nightmare for the trains. It'd probably be a nightmare for boats too.
I disagree with your saying having 75 go into town makes more sense. The mainline should usually bypass the city because the long distance traffic we want bypassing the city is less likely to be aware of the 3di than locals are
Yeah, I can't imagine the Gucci Lanes are good for anyone except the people who administer the road. Around here, on the I-66 HOT lanes it costs about $12 to go 6-ish miles entirely within Fairfax County. On a Sunday. I don't commute so I don't know how ridiculous it is during rush hour.
