“There’s this committee in your head that has to be silenced by the facts now and then, but the committee will always have a voice and if it doesn’t - that’s complacency.” Now that's a philosophical comment for our times!
Haha. Ya, the best things I’ve said are the things that weren’t planned out. Sometimes words fall out and hit the ground and sometimes they fall out and fly, they always fall out though LOL.
maybe no one will care that you cut a tree down. But the last few moments of this video from your couch, are the very best and most important video I have ever watched in my life. Toys in the boots or stuff put in a hat are such precious events and should be cherished.
A very deep and touching ending thought to this video. I am struck by the humanity and sense of being that you bring to your videos. The love and commitment to family as well as your customers and viewers makes you a top notch person and keeps me coming back to watch your work.
just a radome thought how many of y'all really appreciate the the time and energy put in to the editing ? like the smile face , arrow of directional pull , the cool notes of explanation etc just a question because I really appreciate the time and effect of making our industry look as cool as it feels . the boot thing was heart warming ..
Spend the minimum amount of time on the videos. You have kids: your life belongs to us or to them? Creating a good working environment is great but as you get older, climbing those threes will be more and more difficult. So keep your nose on the grinding stone and keep the "idle" time shorter. Type "A" people do not like decorations. I watch your stuff because it is raw... keep it that way.
As a person who works alone or with a single ground guy a lot of the time I appreciate you sharing your thought process. Thanks August. Nice job on the tree as always. Regards to your family.
Impressive! Not only the tree but your overall outlook on life and family. You may not realize it but in many ways you are my teacher and mentor. I have had to teach myself a dangerous trade and without your video, I honestly may not be alive. Thanks man.
".....the best stuff is waiting at home." Truth! Well said August. Another challenging job made to look easy by you and your crew. Well done! Keep yourselves safe! Randy
Thats was awesome. And so was the message at the end back in 2006 my son was 6 and begged me to stay home from work. I was a coal miner I had volunteered to work extra shift he cried for me to stay home and that was something he never did was cry. Well long story short I was crushed that night rock fell on me it was 9ft x 4ft x 1 foot thick. Almost year to learn walk again wore a turtle shell and was told I'd never work again and wouldn't be able to walk by the time I was 50. He fussed at me for years told me if I would of listened it would of never happened lol. Ive been working ever since except that one year i was layed up. I worked light duty till 2012 now im 41 been welding for a while and getting ready to start my own tree business up. Your so right about those blessings thats what has kept me pushing threw the pain and teaching my kids to keep going never give up.
Thank you and your crew for these wonderful videos, I started watching when I found you about ten weeks ago as I started radiation treatments for cancer. With this COVID mess I was separated from my family and I have spent hours watching. Again thank You very much
I love it if my son puts something in my boot! I usually take it on a wee adventure to work and text photos home of it up a tree or in the chipper or something!
“Love my job but the best stuff is at home”. Amen. Sounds like you’ve got your shit figured out Mr. Hunicke. Love your content. Thanks for sharing. God bless your family. God protect you and crew.
I am continually impressed by how you tackle these jobs. What I find most impressive is that you take the time to do a thorough assessment and come up with a plan of action. It doesn't seem like your trying to rush to next job or thinking about things at home or the office. I also find my kid's toys inside my White's Smokejumpers. A little reminder that we all want to go home and see our family at the end of the day. Your videos always fill me with a sense of community, brotherhood, and love. Thank you.
As a guy starting out in this business - only about a year in, I really appreciate your videos! So many aspects of them... and I like how I can identify so well! The adrenaline rush when you start the back cut way up in the air, the puckered cheeks as the tree starts to tilt, the satisfaction of nailing it (or the relief when things go wrong but people are safe afterward)... and the appreciation of going home safely to a loving family knowing that you are the man responsible to provide - and you're doing it!
Hello mr. August I am from Indiana I never been a professional tree trimmer but I've been cutting trees since I was about fourteen I'm 63 now I still enjoy learning stuff and you show me a lot of things that I've tried and really work well and I enjoy your videos I enjoy you trying to share some of your experience and knowledge with us thank you very much and I seen you on one of your videos that you could make up your mind about the music sometimes just the music out I love hearing the equipment and you all talking with each other well God bless each and everyone of you and your families and see you again on the next video
31 years in this industry and 6 kids along the way. Love the little things in lunch box, boots and the lovins from my kids. Makes my entire day. Or seeing employees get the reminders from their kids. God Bless
Thanks for sharing your thought process, and not JUST the cutting. And thank you for sharing who you are as a human being. Loved the "toys in my boots". If I lived in your area, I'd be honored to call you my friend. Stay safe.
I am 65 years old and have had a bead most of my beard growing life. I totally understand toast and other foreign matter in my beard. My response has always been... The dogs love me and that's all that matters...
Long may you and your crew continue to check your boots. Your final couple of minutes in this video will do more for health, safety and emotional welfare than anyone with a wall full of headology degrees. When I worked on the trawlers it was always said that guys who had a wife and kids to return to survived going overboard or being shipwrecked far more often than single guys. I was graced with a wife and kid and I believe every word you said. Thank you. Regards from Scotland.
You are bringing it home again with your story of the “gift” in the boot....mine draws me pictures with a twine around rolled up...sacred moment unrolling them...extra careful in the tree that day with the feeling a carry all day from that gift...a blessing indeed. Thank for making it real again-toast in the beard or not!! best regards
Great video, August.... the committee in your head...Thanks a lot for all the great sharing of details and your experience. Great ending chat! ... Happy loving family surprises in boots. I remember things sort of similar from when my boys were young. Watching you and your team through the RUclips keyhole......Good-natured, wholesome, manly, work and camaraderie with professionalism, good-humor, talent, expertise, hard work, intelligently planned and executed, safety aware, careful, but with good courage..... Thanks for bringing us along with y'all all these years.
While this was yet another one of your highly entertaining and educational videos... I enjoyed your closing (or should I say starting) comments the most! Right on the mark with your focus on family first!
Thanks for sharing your special gift with us. I’m am learning more to take a moment and really appreciate those little gems from our family. 👍👍. Thanks again. 👋
I just got to say August I love your thoughtfulness you’re the kind a guy I wish I worked with. Sensible and reasonable a thinking man. I’ve had a few good friends and workers like you there far and few between✅👍
I agree you are a blessed man August. You truly are made for tree work. I think you’re the best. Keep climbing high brother. Love watching you do what you do best. Be careful out there. James
Love my job(different field from you), love the work, but I don't do it because of that. I do it to provide a better life for my family. We sleep in a comfortable safe house in a good neighborhood, with food on the table and clothes on our backs, because I do battle every day to keep the wolves away from us. If all I saw it as was a boring office job, I'd burn out in a week, but it's infinitely more than that. I get up in the morning and go do righteous battle against the wolves and darkness that would swallow my family. Yeah, I'm made for this too.
I said it once before today looking at one of your other videos, whatever you charged, you're worth every penny of it for sure! So dangerous, holding my breath once more on this video.
As I'm learning to climb I the Portland Vancouver are just watching your crew work let alone the explanations and visuals have greatly helped and expedited my knowledge and comfortably in trees.. thank you for everything you do for the community and hopefully one day we can work together
Hi August , It's been awhile. I cant wait to see your next video. Professional workmen , tools and equipment working while enjoying the job makes it the best. Love it !
This video needs more than a simple like. 💞💖💕❤ Love your ability to explain the factors that go into why you do what you do. And the bit about your boots and kids is even more precious. ❤💕💖💞
August, thank you so much for all you share! I used to put post it notes in my sons shoes every chance I got. Your video reminded me of that. Thank you!
It is funny the comment you made about shaking the boots to see if an scorpion got in. That happened to me when i use to live in my hometown I forgot to shake the boot and I got stung by a black scorpion. Half of my body got numb for the whole day. It wasn't a good day.
Hi august, I've been blessed with beautiful children all grown up now and I sometimes had to drive up to 300 miles away and then start to do a days work not much fun getting up at 4am and then driving for 4 hours but to keep my concentration on the road I used to say to myself drive carefully don't take unnecessary risks because you don't want your children looking into a grave and grieving for a lost father and it certainly helped me to be more considerate, yes we need to provide but seeing your families smiling loving faces makes it all worthwhile
Great cutting...i didn't really get the size of that tree until you went up and put you hands on it.... Excellent decision making and excellent reasoning behind the decision.....i will be using your committee reference during me daily talks I have with my son...stay safe stay healthy
Hey August, great ending on this one. What we have at home at the end of the day makes it all worth it. Take care and stay safe. Thanks for sharing your videos.
I'm a newer subscriber and have been binging your videos. Awesome stuff. I love how you educate while entertaining. Showing the overlays of branch weight, directional visuals, etc, all help the audience understand your thought process and how things actually work. Keep it up guys!
Yes sir, love the knowledge, passion and the way your crew works. I'm learning alot from these videos and I appreciate that I can watch with my 4 year old . God bless you and your business and family sir....
Words of a wise man. Please continue these words as they come to thought August. Your a badass man. I want to work with you at some point before you retire. I’ve been in it 10 years and share many of the same ideals you speak on. Thanks for the knowledge and encourage brother. Stay safe.
August, you don’t look old enough to be a father to a 40 year old. 😝 love the videos. Keep em coming! Your love of the job and life makes it even better.
Awesome ending...I ride a desk for a living and it’s still true...toys in the shoe or on the dash of my car...”they” were made for this!! :). Great vids and awesome outlook. Thanks!!
August, I really admire your work, & thought which goes into things, something I mentioned as a Boy Scout ( British system ) in tree felling, only axes those days 1950s cheers 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
It just shows love, toys in the boots. Found a mouse in my daughters once. Did not miss a beat and just removed the mouse, and put on the shoe. Now I remember that. So nice. Thanks again boys.
Dirty pine... :) That was neat to see the effect of that grain run-out in the hinge wood. Slow-mo you can see the far side pop first, and the top twist a little as you're pulling it over. A good lesson for a less experienced fellow like me.
Holy hot sauce 😂😂📸🎉 watching this video with morning coffee on a day off is not advised,, he threw his phone on the ground and the screen side landed up ( means heads ) 😳 I think I still have some coffee dripping out of my nose , lol thank you guys were awesome videos. Joe from California.
Good stuff, thanks for your efforts as usual. You probably wonder (if you notice, which you just may) why I just kind of skip around your videos leaving notes like this one, I'm often up all night, I'm watching my mother with altzheimers and I have some health issues myself and don't often get through a night without some YT. That usually involves watching August and his gang take down a few dicey trees. I've learned a lot for a guy who may take down a tree or 2 every couple years, but I like to learn, even though I well know my limits and won't be trying any aerial work, I find it comforting to know more than I did. Thanks for your time, and you guys are truly blessed, enjoy it al long as you can, as I tell my sons, do it while you can, for you can't imagine how fast time moves. Never forget the boots, think of them every time you step onto a tree or start a saw. Thanks again for your great videos.
I don’t know August and you may or may not realize this but the wisdom you speak is beyond your years! Graced and Blessed you are! A loving family and a successful career, what more could a guy ever want in this life. I heard you almost died fishing in Alaska ( was it Kodiak?). Is that what it takes to be humble ? Your humility comes from a higher place; it shows and all those lives you touch ( mine included ) are benefited because of it. Keep on keeping on Brother!
Good to observe the cut and grain that’s how we improve the brain! I have seen that runout happen at the butt and the tree went off lay. This is the reason we avoid making hinges through knots. Love for all the tree people! 👍❤️
I love the action a little scary with that big top right by the boom great inside it in the video I get caught up with work makes me realize I need to pay my kids and family more attention thanks for the video
Hey Augus and Crew. You commented on not being able to have a visual or good visual of the tension when pulling the top of the tree for topping. There was no sight reference. Look at the large branch on the right side around timeline 9:30 "You have good command", and you have a reference point with the other trees. You can actually see how much tension you have on the top. You and your crew keep up the awesome work!!!!
Committees, Coins, Animal Bones (Road Kill, we aren't Butchers) all the little tricks of the trade. 15:45 is a good shot of that dog leg! My dad was a General Construction climber for PG&E. My little brother always put stuff in his boots! Stay safe out there, all y'all!
Loved it , from beginning to end . Didn't really appreciate the size of the top until the camera showed you starting to make the face cut , that put the diameter into perspective . Bonus philosophy too , very cool :-)
Toys in the boots... we did that with Grandpa's whites when we were kids... He was pole climber for Rural Electric in Montana back in the 60's. We thought it was fun.. more importantly, we were just saying "We love You" 💕😎😎
I'm going to need your address August, so I can send your kids some Legos! You're truly one of the guys. I'm sure your kids feel the same about you too. Thanks for another great tree video as well...
Retirement is just the beginning. There is always something bigger than you. Even if it likes to put something in your boot. Be well and enjoy your family. Best to the crew.
Love all your videos August. Wish I could spend some time on your crew, but I'm in the opposite corner of the US in north Georgia so I settle for the videos. I love seeing the work you do, hearing the thought that goes into it and the philosophy of life that you spin into all your stories. I had an idea as you were trying to show the lean of that tree. It's hard to know what's vertical when the camera is moving around, but you could hold a simple plumb bob (any weight on a string) in the video showing it along with the whole tree to provide a good reference for the amount of lean you're dealing with. Keep up the good work. Praying that you and your family and crew will have many more years of blessings.
August I am getting more into tree work. I have enjoyed your videos and the teaching you are doing. I specialize more with mowing, property clean ups etc. I have taken a class and learned how to climb and I took a chainsaw safety class. With this tree I saw that you were able to use the bucket to take down the tree. I do not have a bucket. What would your thoughts be on if I was to climb and cut the branches off. Once at the top what if I would have used a hangman's noose to tie to the top of the tree and then used a rope puller to pull the tree down. I am just starting out and I am learning all the time but what are your thoughts? Bill
Nice video, you made a solid plan! That is always a good idea. If you saw the bark off you can see the grain direction. And felling nodge was a bit wide considering the back lean. Keep up the videos always nice to watch 🤙
“There’s this committee in your head that has to be silenced by the facts now and then, but the committee will always have a voice and if it doesn’t - that’s complacency.” Now that's a philosophical comment for our times!
That is a very wise statement, every voice in the committee is from experience, some good some bad, but every experience is valuable
Yes the boot thing tugs at your Heartstrings. You get it August. Kudos
“Be deliberate. Live your life on purpose.”
Man, I love that quote. Thanks
One of the most humble dude's I've ever seen. You're an inspiration, August. Thank you for everything you've done for this community.
As a person who works alone or with a single ground guy a lot of the time I appreciate you sharing your thought process. Thanks August.
Nice job on the tree as always. Regards to your family.
Ditto
Impressive! Not only the tree but your overall outlook on life and family. You may not realize it but in many ways you are my teacher and mentor. I have had to teach myself a dangerous trade and without your video, I honestly may not be alive. Thanks man.
Thanks Seth
".....the best stuff is waiting at home." Truth!
Well said August. Another challenging job made
to look easy by you and your crew. Well done!
Keep yourselves safe!

That’s rough. I’ve a similar story..with my dad.
Thank you and your crew for these wonderful videos, I started watching when I found you about ten weeks ago as I started radiation treatments for cancer. With this COVID mess I was separated from my family and I have spent hours watching. Again thank You very much
Thanks glen, heal up I pray.
You’ve been doing tree work as long as I’ve been alive. Loved your message at the end of the video much love August.
I love it if my son puts something in my boot! I usually take it on a wee adventure to work and text photos home of it up a tree or in the chipper or something!
I do the same thing man! I have a stuffed rabbit thats been in my truck for a week now, lol
“Love my job but the best stuff is at home”. Amen. Sounds like you’ve got your shit figured out Mr. Hunicke. Love your content. Thanks for sharing. God bless your family. God protect you and crew.
Absolutely love your videos! Especially that sweet nugget at the end, made my day! Keep up the good work August and team!!
Thanks
I am continually impressed by how you tackle these jobs. What I find most impressive is that you take the time to do a thorough assessment and come up with a plan of action. It doesn't seem like your trying to rush to next job or thinking about things at home or the office.
I also find my kid's toys inside my White's Smokejumpers. A little reminder that we all want to go home and see our family at the end of the day. Your videos always fill me with a sense of community, brotherhood, and love. Thank you.
A thorough assessment increases your chances of staying alive. :)
Hello mr. “The best stuff is waiting at home.” Damned straight.
Thanks for sharing your thought process, and not JUST the cutting. And thank you for sharing who you are as a human being. Loved the "toys in my boots". If I lived in your area, I'd be honored to call you my friend. Stay safe.
Corny and cliche sound like heaven to me.
God truly blessed you with Family, friends and hard rewarding work @August Hunicke
I am 65 years old and have had a bead most of my beard growing life. I totally understand toast and other foreign matter in my beard. My response has always been... The dogs love me and that's all that matters...

Nice thinking good to just sit back and think the moves before doing them. Great work August
Love this video. Love the family memories. Keeps us in our toes. Great work brother. Keep honoring God.
One of the classiest guys and crews on You Tube!
Love that ending...
Love my two girls that have given my life purpose for 18 and 15 years.
Wonderful message. Thank you.
Thanks Brian
My wife doesn't know why I sometimes cry or am sad when I watch tree work on RUclips. Maybe I'll play this one for her. Love you guys!
Thanks for the boot introduction. I'm sure it gives you additional incentive to get back home.
The committee ! ! I Now have a way to explain my actions 😄😄I LOVED THAT ONE
Hi August , It's been awhile. I cant wait to see your next video. Professional workmen , tools and equipment working while enjoying the job makes it the best. Love it !
Thanks August for the great videos and sharing the words at the end. A great Dad you must be. Stay well.

The video angle of the final cut really gave a great example of how the hinge is cut and works. Thanks for that perspective!
This fellow is a real man with a blessed heart.
The best is at home, we do what we do for them, always. Great videos and the education, perspective and knowledge is always welcome

Hey August, great ending on this one. What we have at home at the end of the day makes it all worth it. Take care and stay safe. Thanks for sharing your videos.

Yes sir, love the knowledge, passion and the way your crew works. I'm learning alot from these videos and I appreciate that I can watch with my 4 year old . God bless you and your business and family sir....
Always love to watch your tree videos and I sure would like to see you and Buckin Billy Ray get together and cut some trees down
Fantastic execution, as always, well thought-out and well implemented. Blessings to you and your family.

August, you don’t look old enough to be a father to a 40 year old. 😝 love the videos. Keep em coming! Your love of the job and life makes it even better.
"made for this", what a wonderful way to end the video and start my day. Thank You.
One of your most important and goodly, yes goodly videos. And all God"s people say Amen!
I like that you described the thought process behind it.
Awesome ending...I ride a desk for a living and it’s still true...toys in the shoe or on the dash of my car...”they” were made for this!! :). Great vids and awesome outlook. Thanks!!

Great comments at the end. Everyday is a new challenge, when we get home, that’s the reward. Great videos guys
Wow, glad I stayed for the end. Well said August.
Love your videos and how you share the knowledge!
Buzz!
Thanks Shane. Being humble is good goal 😁
Good to observe the cut and grain that’s how we improve the brain! I have seen that runout happen at the butt and the tree went off lay. This is the reason we avoid making hinges through knots. Love for all the tree people! 👍❤️
That is why we are here, most of us. Good words. Thank you.
'It always affects me in a positive way" --- what a great line.
Great video! THE ENDING...AWESOME!!!
A talented man with a beautiful mind and heart.
The boot thing is special. Thanks for sharing it.
Love the talk at the end mate it's really important my friend
FREAKIN big ol pine!!! Nice work guys. Love it. Hope you and your families doin well. 💚🌳👊👍🌳💚
It's reminds you what it's all about, the Blessing that await you at home. Thumbs Up !
We thought it was fun.. more importantly, we were just saying "We love You" 💕😎😎
I loved the story about things being put in your boots
I'm going to need your address August, so I can send your kids some Legos! You're truly one of the guys. I'm sure your kids feel the same about you too. Thanks for another great tree video as well...
Beautiful ending August thank you 👍
Retirement is just the beginning. There is always something bigger than you. Even if it likes to put something in your boot. Be well and enjoy your family. Best to the crew.
Amen for dominoes 💖
I worked in the Phoenix desert and you definitely get the habit of checking your boots for hitch hikers.
Little bit of everything! Toast! Nice work.
Gotta love kids. Great video August
I love the ending you are truly blessed!!!!
