The trend of the internet seems to be that when someone else exposes you and you just straight up ignore it for 2 weeks, maybe a month everyone just forgets and moves on.
Not talking about it is different than blatantly lying and denying it. Probably already feeling guilt from the ordeal itself, faced with the possibility of someone else coming out with it and being asked about it, lying and denying would just be digging the hole deeper and would be worse. So his morals likely started catching up with him. (if this was the situation, no way to really know maybe his wife made him)
