- Command Bus TMC RTS-06 CNG #4904 (ex-MTA Bus Company TMC RTS-06 CNG #682) was at the 2007 MTA Bus Roadeo at Belmont Park, NY.
At one time, this bus was part of the newly created MTA Bus Company as TMC RTS-06 CNG #682. However, each depot needed (or wanted) to have a "Museum" bus and this bus was chosen. It's now sitting at the Spring Creek Bus Depot in Brooklyn, which was formerly known as the Command Bus Company Bus Depot. Enjoy!
Can someone maybe tell me the back history behind 4904? Cause I've noticed people mentioned about this bus and they wouldn't preserve any CNG buses
Okay. Late comment but from what I've learned from others was that the L10G in this bus was one of the first engines to be computerized with an ECU, which most likely requires proprietary software and/or hardware to be able to access the engine's operating parameters. There were a few mechanics capable of working with this bus, but all of them have long since retired from transit or passed on. This bus is no longer capable of being started up as far as we know.
Sad this bus is getting scrapped now, was a true piece of history, playing a role in bringing CNG to New York City
It's not getting scrapped. Its staying at Eastchester
Any update on its restoration plans?
saw this unit at Kingsbridge Depot, no idea why it was there, only ideas I got are Maintenance, Cleaning, or Repairs
This didn't age well. Bus still exists today.
They Scrapped this Bus
Music...absolutey beautiful sound. I had the pleasure of riding these bad boys once, and 4got 2 bring my camera!
It's a CNG bus so that tank is needed.
This thing is still sitting in spring creek
@breadandcircuses8127it's at eastchester for about a while now
FIGHTING to imagine a classic FISHBOWL or "ROSA PARKS" bus OLD LOOK with a CNG retrofitted...esp.with a 4-speed stick.
This Bus Had A Cummins L10G With A ZF Transmission
Two negatives don't always make a positive.
@8v71buses yea the ones in the LIB
thats bad they shoulda kept these busses running
Ugh, RTS *anything* with a Cummins engine...
It sucks that Detroit Diesel engines are no longer produced on a larger scale. It also sucks that we have no new RTS models in NYC.
@@antoniojmonetti bankruptcy
no, cummins L10G with a ZF-ECOMAT HP590
Best buses in the city.
Wow she sounds kinda like the Orion 5 CNGs
The Cummins L10G powered ones NYCT and LIB before NICE takeover once had. Yup!
@jeanetdun I sure wish there were more these recorded on youtube
This gem is now sitting @ Eastchester
I heard they scrapped the plan to get rid of it due to the outcry of their employees
Thanks. My memory of these is kinda vague.
I lova those motors and transmissions. I feel bad for MTA, Command, and Triboro Coach for scrapping them. Good thing we still have our Nova RTS RTWFD-82L with a Cummins L10, 280G engine with a ZF-ECOMAT 5HP590 transmission, wich sounds a lot better, hgere in dallas, texas on DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit)
@alexdarkness666 its a CNG Fuel Tank
Sounds like its engine is a Cummins L10G
i guess no one noticed that the rear flipdot sign said CALL COPS
Awesome
thats bad :( We have Nova RTS LNG buses with a Cummins L10, 280G engines and ZF 5HP590 here in Dallas and they're about to retire...we're getting new NABI LFW's..the Generation III
unfortunately this will be scrapped by july of next year as the 3 remaining mechanics that knew how to fix it will or is retired
they tried to fix it and broke it now its going to scrap
no they had their reasons one being the tanks 2 being the frames being bad
Anthony Boyd They should give the TMC RTS CNG ISL-G With Allison or ZF Even Though it doesn't fit it..
it wont work nobody knows how to fix it and its too costly on a old expired tanks/frame
There's still an RTS CNG parked in the back of the Spring Creek Depot. Doubt it's gonna go anywhere for a while.
WHAT BEAVERS MAKE (think what they DO make LOL), for a CNG with (as someone said) ZF trans. that is a GOOD sound..then again, it was the 1970s-originated GMC RTS II style (though made by TMC)..,..too bad in Calif. here all we got is:
ORION
GILLIG
NABI
NEW FLYER
generally
Though the Orions are high floor and have a DISTINCT style and ARE well runing and well built, such can't be said of the other, LOW FLOOR SHEEP we have (SHEEP - replaced with IT lol again).
Great bus (but classic Detroit 671 or 871 diesel's BEST! thumbs up)
damn an L10G with a V731?!
@TEMPLE7D Its Compressed Natural Gas not Clean Natural Gas
They have not ran these since 2006.
does MTA still run these?
nope
