Wow I miss the rts Detroit Diesel bus back in the 90 i used to take the bus all on the q35 bus and q22 and q60 I missed the classic green bus line and command bus to bm1 and bm2
no, this is a Detroit Diesel series 50 engine which is a 4 stroke turbo unit... I dont how how many cylinders the bus engines are though. Sounds like a 6. (anyone know?) -Cody
No. The DD50 got cut off as of 2005. Too damn dirty for EPA standards, even though the original DD50 didn't emit so much crap like it last did. When the EGR system was tacked onto the DD50, let's just say that any given 2-stroke Diesel engine emitted less crap than what the DD50 EGR did. Detroit Diesel had no choice but to kill the DD50 altogether.
I did some reserach af found out it's actually an 8.5 liter inline 4... odd, but true! from wikipedia, hp ratings: 890 ft·lbf @ 1200 rpm 250-275 hp govern at 1800-2100 rpm 1050 ft·lbf @ 1200 rpm 315-320 hp Govern at 1800-2100 rpm -Cody
This is my all time favorite bus sounds. Sounds like it's outside because you can't hear the Allison v731's whine. Nonetheless makes me nostalgic!
We used to have those buses here in Cleveland
The infamous fan belt screech. Almost all of Triboro Coach’s buses had either that or a death tick
Holy FUCK! I haven't heard that raw Series 50 sound in YEARS. That's how these sounded when they first popped up! I was a kid then! Damn!!
I LOVE the idle sound on this bus. I remeber the first time I seen and heard an DD50 RTS back in the 90s, I was an instant fan.
Me too, since I pretty much came out the womb. One of my earliest recalls!
The Nabi 416 sounded just like this in Philly
I love the way this 1993 TMC RTS Sounds
My favorite engine of my life!
i wish my car sounded like this
This was a real sounding bus here. That's when the series 50 engine was loud.

Man this bus sounds strong. Thats a Detroit engine for you! :-D
Man I miss the ex-PBL RTSs.
It sounds AMAZING!!!!
I worked on those buses
Thank You
This is an old school sound
A 1993 TMC RTS-06
Intro year of the engine was 1993, according to WikiPedia.
So, the bus was built the year Detroit Diesel introduced their Series 50 drive engine.
Nice! I like the audio
LMAO! You call this old school sound? Check out 1978-82 GM Fishbowls with 6V71N engines still running in Canada! Now that Old school my friend!
that was classic, but the DD50 was just as classic.

damn.
Was this bus on a express run or something? I can't imagine any queens routes with this much space for a bus to get up to speed like this
@metroktransit Indeed bruh
hey, does anyone know if detroit diesel is still selling the series 50?
i have ridden on one of these bad boys
Same
What's the model year of that bus?
Triboro mitch match panels.
Was that bus repowered from a 2-stroke drive engine?
is that bus for sale
Nice video, though I think Allison's B500R transmission sounds better. V731 is bland.
V731 all I can say is RND2 1
No They discontinue in 2005
They may have stopped making them in 2005 but these buses are still servicing 4 boroughs of NY except staten island.
its a screecher
