«I am punctual because it matters; is if you are late, then you're saying that your time is more important than everyone else's time.» -- King Harald V of Norway, December 2023.
The King will always be in my heart, he's a good man and has been king as long as I can remember (I was born in 1990 and he became king in 1991). It will be a sad day the day he passes.
I see there are some making youtube reactions from norway, but little from North norway. There are amazing places like Senja, Lofoten, Finnmark, the culture and sami people, midnightsun and nothern lights, Tromsø the city. Værøy and Røst Islands in Lofoten. Senja also called the fairy Island amazing places.
That statement about celebrating with having our next generation show themself and the king waving and recognize them as our future. That's the mindset i truly love. If the national day goes from this to having military parades, then that's when I know my country has changed and it's gone too far.
King Harald V of the Kingdom of Norway is the greatest kind on the planet. Alt for Norge. Just as a note, if all our politicians say "go left" while our King says "go right", we all go right. Forget about the "but he doesn't have political power", he has ALL the power. He has the people.
The King made this speech for us in order to make one thing clear; there will be no laws of discrimination. We are not multicultural; we are together as one culture. It is my job as a Norwegian to explain concepts like the grass is green for everyone, which means that your shadow does not hurt me, so if you take the glory it doesn't matter to me. It's the Norwegian way. The grass will always be green for everyone.
Never thought about this before, but at the end of the video you can see the sign of Freia on top of one of the buldings. Freia (a chocolate factory) usually says: Et lite stykke Norge in their commercials (their slogan) which means a little piece of Norway. I don't know if that was intended or not, but it felt like a nice touch considering what the speech is about. Edit: I don't care about what anyone says, Norwegian chocolate is the best chocolate in the world. I know Belgium and Switzerland is known for that, but their chocolate isn't even good imo.
As a person of this world, strangely enough my birthplace is norway. I could have been born somewhere else. That sat aside and regardless of where, how, why and who. Everyone is alike, but all different in every way shape and form. We have a differences of opinions, we differ also from how we view the world. If we can recognize that we can tolerate differences and flaws in our selves and others, maybe we can cooperate and figure shit out. We can learn from eachother and build on our strengths and with that overcome our weaknesses. Have a little bit thicker skin and accept that, not everyone views the world the same way. Tolerate arguments of opinions and WORDS, not to accept entitlements.....just because.............? I would rather see who is saying what, then forcing someone into rabbit hole of an echo chamber, that can produce a crazy person.
Money is a big problem from becoming "one" in the global aspect the structure or idea of money to buy/sell for demand/supply is among the biggest thing that creates inequality. its a phenomenon that we as civilised human created to make trade / living work. and its gonna hit us back, and it gradually getting worse and worse as the rich and poor divide more and more. As a Norwegian even the poor is "rich" when it gets to the economy structure that we humans created based on luck. but this phenomenon is just gradually becoming bigger and bigger and on a global scale I dont know where it will end. the path seems to gravitate towards dictatorship in a scale of countries (not persons as we are used to today) Norway might be very good at diversity or liberalism to support this.. but thats because we are super lucky with our resourses that is needed in the world and thus becoming very rich (not for sharing, but applying this economy structure that has been made) and we dont share it, we "earn/build" money of it to create power/future savings. I dont think we as Norwegians do the wrong thing here since the world is not ready for being "one" and we have to do what we can do to make our life comfortable. but its not the right path. Norway isnt ready either. its a long way to go and I hope it will happen someday, but we are all walking the wrong path here and I dont see it will happen within the next 300-600 years at the minimum. Either technology and resourse farming will be so effective that we in the end all dont have to work, which will make equality a easier thing to reach. or we will have a global catastrophe coming in that force us to work togheter to kickstart this idea of becoming one to survive as a specie. hard to say what will happen. but none of us here who is reading this comment will ever experience a human population becoming "ONE" globally sadly :(
Meanwhile the English kibg that is the head of australia totally ignores its people. And btw. Norway now has a sovereign wealth worth over two trillion dollars for the benefit of future generations. In contrast, Australia is leaving future generations a massive debt of nearly $1 trillion. Australians never nationalized their mineral resources (not allowed by the king?).
what is wrong with you? nett troll!!! If only politicians where as nice as the Norwegian king, the world have been a better place for everyone. Equality!
We have a very good King, but Norway becomes more and more divided. Poverty going up, crimes going up and peoples educations going down. We survive because of the oil, but some day it will end. Future of Norway is looking bad. Happy im dead withing 50 years...
The future of Norway is not looking bad, what are you on about? We did not survive because of the oil, we survived because of agriculture, the oil gave us abundance but we would still have survived without abundance. Having what you need and not more is not a bad thing, having too much is bad, you won't appreciate anything. PS: Being "poor" in Norway still means you have it better than those that have it best, in worse countries. Our social security net will house you, will pay you money, will try to get you into a job, healthcare is free and so on. We have a great country, the fact that you think it's going south is probably because you have too much stuff and can't smell the dust on the ground.

If my king says it well I’ll follow. Every country need a royalty, a highest authority with the heart for the country.

It was a lot of Norwegians that went to Australia and America in around 1880 to early 1900
The original speech is better than the chopped up and editorialized version you have seen in this video.
