Watched your 1st video (Bersa 380 FTF) with great interest. I have a Bresa 380 FireStorm (basically the SAME gun) with the SAME problem ! I love this gun and it has been my EDC for many years. Very reliable, accurate and easy to carry. But then one day at the range, Ready, Aim, Fi... CLICK! A sick feeling! Can't trust it anymore! I'm not a GunSmith, not very experienced with guns in general, but I do have a GOOD understanding of mechanics and how things work and I recognized that it was a light hit on the primer. Shot it a time or two more and it worked but failures were getting worse & worse. I also noticed that the firing pin was sloppy and not exposed to the hammer (which would account for light hits & mis-fires).
The Internet is a WONDERFUL THING. I found an exploded diagram in a parts catalog which enabled me (and gave me the confidence) to perform "exploratory surgery" on my BABY. When I removed the firing pin I found that the inertia spring had began to wind down past the stop on the firing pin and was no longer positioning the firing pin back toward the hammer. The firing pin was just randomly positioned somewhere after each shot (which might explain some comments about how you hold the gun). I ordered a new firing pin and inertia spring from (I really can't remember where). The new firing pin looked like it just came out of a casting and was so rough looking that I put the new inertia spring on the old firing pin and reassembled the gun. Took it to the range and VOILA! fires great! Inspected the shell casings and found nice SOLID hits. Also, the firing pin is positioned rearward and exposed to the hammer. SUCCESS !!!
    Months Later ... New problem:
Random FTF's. Gun works, but random FTF's with all 3 magazines (mostly with various mfr. FMJ target ammo). This problem sounds EXACTLY as described in your FTF video. I took it to a GunSmith (who is a personal friend) and he could see no reason for these FTF's. He polished the ramp but gun is still finnicky. I was on the edge of my seat watching your 2nd follow-up video after you got your Bersa back from the GunSmith in Texas ... WTH ???
I LOVE this gun but I'm starting to think NEW gun for EDC (been un-comfortable carrying it this long). I was really hoping to hear a resolution ! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience on this RUclips channel. If ANYONE has a cure for these FTF's please let me know.

I love the Bersa Thunder 380. I’ve owned 5 Bersas including the little cc version and all worked great. I gave them as gifts to friends. Wonderful guns. You did a very good review of the gun’s ability to function and Bersa should appreciate your professionalism. If a Bersa doesn’t work well, send it back to the factory for repair. Great video, friend. I will watch all of your vids now. Thanks.

@@buffalosoutdoors Whenever the gun is presented with light primer strikes, we change the springs and while we're at it do a trigger job at the same time. We charge the customer for 1 hour of labor plus the parts. 90% of buyers are happy and we never see them back, but 10% (maybe) come back in with some sort of small problem. I still like them.

I own the same gun. The slide flew off in the first 50 rounds, returned to Bersa gunsmith who replaced the slide lock (lever mechanism to remove the slide). Next the C clip broke shortly thereafter which I replaced myself. Gun has more than a thousand trouble-free rounds thru it, and I trust it for carry. My wife already has the standard Bersa Thunder 380, and I just bought the combat model. We love all three and I find the combat to be the best shooter for me because of the rubber grips with finger grooves, and slightly larger beaver tail compared to my CC model. We have the more name brand guns, Kahr, Ruger, Beretta, Glock, and SW, but love our Bersas' the best. Any gun can and will break (like my Beretta Nano which after the sixth repair, and a major failure had to go because of reliability issues). Bersa guns have an excellent reputation, a HUGE loyal ownership group, and can't be beat with the original owner lifetime warranty. Great review.

I sent my Bursa BP9CC in for warranty work recently. The pistol shot fine, but the mag release and slide release were hard to work.
I sent it to Bursa's repair center in Indiana, American Arsenal Armory. It was a bit slow due to COVID restrictions, but they were easy to work with and did super repairs. I can now work the pistol in all respects with shooting hand only.
This is a fine pistol at a reasonable price. Good luck finding one anywhere today.

My guess would be there was a bit of machining grit in the firing pin assembly that worked it's way out. I've seen that twice in a pair of Beretta handguns. Since then I do a full dis-assembly and clean of any new gun when I get hold of it.

@@buffalosoutdoors It may have something to do with factory policy. As of right now, you have over seven hundred likes. That's seven hundred possible customers, not to mention those who saw the first video. Nothing to sneeze at. I doubt, however; that a reputable gun smith would lie to you for the same reason. The gun "community" (I hate that word) on RUclips is quite large, and the likelihood of you mentioning his name is pretty good (you did). So, in the process of examining the weapon, the stray gremlin fell out unnoticed and that was that.

The slightest bit of debris or even carbon from firing one of these can cause light primer strikes. My best guess is he cleaned it out better than is usually possible for the average shooter, or he would even think of doing.

Very interesting video I've owned many Bersa thunder 380's over the years and have never had an issue but not saying it can't happen to any gun for that matter, I'm guessing when you sent it to be repaired the gunsmith completely disassembled it and maybe didn't notice but some sort of debris came out that was causing the malfunctioning great video 👍👍

I have been seriously pondering the purchase of a Bersa 380. Contrary to interpreting the first video along with this one and thinking I should shy away from a Bersa, this has convinced me to go ahead and buy one. Why? Because it shows that Bersa stands behind its guns and warranty and will actually fix any lemon. That means a lot and I am pretty sure a Bersa Thunder Plus Combat (15 rounds) will be coming my way soon.

My Bersa Thunder Plus runs flawlessly and I really LOVE the gun ... 16 rounds of whup-ass in my pocket, and ACCURATE. I do not understand why some jerk would dump on you for posting video of a flawed gun. Every manufacturer has a lemon now and then. But some are a royal pain in the asterisk to get to make a bad gun right. Bersa is not, they stand behind their guns!! They made this gun right.

    • @jimkubitza3820
      @jimkubitza3820 5 лет назад

Gunsmith said he didn't do anything to the gun, that it was fine. But I'll bet he at least field-stripped it and put it back together. I am thinking that originally the recoil spring was in back-asswards. There is a skinny end and a looser end. The skinny end has to slide on the barrel FIRST.

    • @buffalosoutdoors
      @buffalosoutdoors  5 лет назад

Many have suggested the recoil spring was on backwards but it wasn't. The pistol ended up going back to it's old ways after a few hundred rounds and the owner ditched it. I don't really blame him as I have no use for a gun I can't trust either but I wish he'd have let me do one more follow up video first. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hmmmm. What was the temp when it was failing? My Taurus (yeah, I know) was very reliable everytime i got it out. Then I took it out in 30 deg temps and it would have light primer strikes on just about every round. I brought it home and took apart the slide and striker mechanisms (for the first time) and found a thick grease packed in and around the striker/firing pin. cleaned that gunk off and lubed with regular gun oil. Took it back out in -30 temps and it ran flawlessly.

A friend of mine works as a warranty repair place for a brand name scroll saw (expensive product) and sometimes he fixes the things and does the same thing because it doesn't look good for the company to have to admit that something slipped thru their quality control. That loose screw was a clue. You can tighten the grip screws too much and induce malfunctions (ie.too much pressure on the trigger bar). Be sure when tightening the grip screw to look into the mag well. If you see/feel the tip of the screw, back it out until flush. If it is still loose, put on a rubber o-ring under the screw-head like you would a washer.

Now I shoot a lot and I carry my S&W Centennial Airweight very often... well now maybe I might switch. This gun is very easy to get good hits with.
And just to let you know... 5 yards.. one ragged hole 8 shot groups!! Not just once but every time!! And the shoots dead on with those factory non-adjustable sights!!! Winchester 95 grain FMJFP and Speer Gold dot HPs. NOT A JAM!!! Yea... I'll put the Centennial in the safe if, after the two mags I ordered, are tested and the gun still shoots 100 percent! And I am not kidding.. ONE RAGGED HOLE GROUPS consistently and right where the sights shoot.

I’ve owned quite a few Bersa firearms and pretty much all of them have run great. I’ve had a couple that the firing pin channel had to much oil in them to point it was almost like grease. Bet they tore it down and it was either a burr on something or the firing pin channel gunked up. I’ve heard the story several times of sending a gun in and they say they couldn’t find anything and it would run fine when customers get them back. I will say most of the Bersa’s I’ve owned has a break in point of about 200-300 rounds through them to loosen up and smooth out.

Most 380s, like this Bersa, are of blowback design, which often results in a snappy recoil. While most 9mm pistols use some type of delayed recoil, which tends to make them more comfortable to shoot. Of course, all the variations in design, grip materials and weight can make a big difference. If possible, it's best to visit a range and try different pistols in 380 and 9mm before you buy.

Never had a light strike problem but the FTF is common with mine. Thus far I've only shot around 200 rounds so I'm still considering it a breaking in period. I believe the FTF problem is in the ramp. Last time I went out I put a drop of oil on the ramp and had no problems at all. Coincidence? Maybe, but I plan on going out again soon and will try it out again. Also grip plays a major role with this gun. Limp wrist will give you all kinds of problem. This is just my take on things.

95 % of problems with the .380 are due to recoil sping being installed backwards - tight end go's on barrel first keeping spring from falling off , if installed with loose end 1st the tight end will drag the barrel in both directions, mine is at 600 total round count without any failures ......... thanks for the video

Just because one gun doesn’t run properly doesn’t mean there is something fundamentally wrong with that type of weapon. Other reports state that it eats every brand of ammo.
Problem with this one identified, light primer strike, and rectified (not sure how)so don’t get your knickers in a knot people, it’s not personal.

I’m guessing you had some sort of grit or burr that was restricting the hammer or hammer spring.
For the life of me I cannot understand why you would receive a death threat for mentioning that a mechanical device was malfunctioning. It will take a whole lot more than a gunsmith and softer primers to repair a guy like that back to proper working order.

Here is a video on cleaning a Bersa with a lite primer strike problem.
      ruclips.net/video/fQJ9aXJA_I0/видео.html
I suspect the Gunsmith took the gun apart, replaced springs just because it was taken apart, and when it went back together it worked fine. Springs are cheaper than labor so it is cheaper to always replace them.

Oh man, I truly understand you! This fucking Bersa! My worst purchase ever. I actually understood why their crap is so cheap. Because quality is terrible and material they use in manufacturing are of very poor quality. After several magazines fired out my new Bersa Firestorm it stared to light strike. There is this extra safety feature located in the slide that due to its malfunction it prevents firing pin from traveling all the way and striking the primer properly. The spring under the piston that that provides extra safety bends inside and the piston does not move evenly. How can this pass quality control. Bersa is such a disappointment. This gun can fail you at that very moment when you need it the most. What a bummer.

Thanks Buffalo. Great follow up video. I plan on getting one in the future. Hickok 45 has a good video on the Bersa .380 cc as well. Shit happens. Gun owners are a sensitive bunch, to put it mildly. Like any manufactured product they don’t always come out of the factory perfect. It’s not an indictment against a brand nor should we ‘kill’ the messenger, in one comment case, literally. How absurd. Anyway, keep up the good work !

I have a bersa firestorm which is basically the same gun I was shooting it one day and suddenly the trigger wouldn't move far enough back to fire. I took it home, took the slide off, and the hammer would then fall, I messed around with it some more but couldn't get it to work. I sent it to the SAME GUY in Texas and he sent it back to me in a few days. No explanation as to what the problem was. I emailed him and he responded that the gun was extremely dirty like it had been dropped in the dirt. The gun has never been fired outside and never dropped in the dirt. His fix was he cleaned and lubed it and it was working fine. It is functioning fine so far, haven't shot it yet, but I'm seeing a pattern here. The gun wasn't dirty, I had cleaned the gun prior to going to the range, and only had a few rounds through it when it malfunctioned. He had to have done something else to it besides cleaning. It seemed fishy at the time but after seeing this video it appears that John is not being truthful for some reason. Any gun can have a problem so why pretend there isn't one?

Hey David thank you for tuning in to my videos. I don't know if they cleaned it or not. I didn't talk to him directly but my friend (the owner) did. He said the guy was very blunt about it being an ammo problem and that the gun was fine. Maybe when he disassembled it to look it over he cleaned it up. I am not sure.

My first bersa Thunder 380CC in nickel plate in 2019 was a jam-matic. It keep having fail to feed and fail to eject so i sold it. This year 2024 i decided to buy another used Bersa 380CC in nickel plate that i saw at my pawnshop. I bought it and put 150rd of .380 winchester 95gr fmj through it with no issue.
