Dads never want animals and yet they end up loving them the most.
It's just people in general who do want them. I hated cats and when I was a kid my mom adopted a giant cat (big as a small dog) from this old man who died. The sob was a miserable prick and you couldn't touch him. One day he climbed on me and layed down so I tried petting him and he purred for the first time in a year. We became inseparable after that but nobody else could go near him without him hissing and fluffing up. He died after 8 years and I cried at the vet. Mind you I've never even cried at a funeral of a loved one.
I found a tiny baby bird w almost no feathers, outside of a drugstore. I couldn't find any other birds or nests, so I went home and got a pillowcase to pick him up (I was hoping he would be gone when I returned). I took him home to my boyfriend who didn't want to get involved, bc he thought the bird wouldn't make it through the night. The bird thrived and I did everything for him, feeding, playing, filling a bowl of warm water for baths (he would stand in the empty bowl squaaacking, until I filled it), and especially treats. Every evening the bird would fight sleep as he awaited my boyfriend's return from work. Once my boyfriend got back and spent some time w Perry the catbird, the bird would relax and go to his bedtime box. The bird had an incredible personality and I dreaded letting him loose. At the end of the summer, I took him to a rehab facility where the owner had 3 other catbirds that she was readying for their trip south. I still wonder if he did okay, I loved him dearly even though he seemed to love my bf more.

But unfortunately what a lot of people don't understand about these birds such as cockatoos and all kinds of parrots and other social birds, they truly look beautiful when they are happy mentally ,when they are stressed out or in a place that they do not like they will pull their own feathers out and literally starve their selves .it's so sad that some of these birds people get thinking it's going to be a great pet, but they truly don't know how to provide care and love with the right amount of daily interaction for these animals
@@evansmcnerney6328 You're right. They're social. I can't understand how The Dodo thinks that showing people who keep single parrots/cockatoos is in any way okay. Some of them might still be happy more or less, but it's a scientifically proven fact that social birds need company of the same species because they're... well... social. Here in Germany you're forbidden to keep one of these animals alone, as long as there are no very important reasons why you have to do that. I don't understand why in the US, people think that having just ONE bird is in any way okay.
If you want a cockatoo ask yourself this: Are you prepared to live with a 2 year old for the rest of your life?

My ex and I had a macaw, one that he had before me, and she would literally attack me if I got to close to him.... The second one we bought, (back in the 90s learned how bad that was later), was still too young to choose her "mate" when we had to give her to a new family... Funny thing was his dad bought the bird originally but it was my ex who she chose...
Because birds are looking for a partner. Don't keep single birds., Their attachment to the owner might be cute, but the bird is miserable every time the owner leafs. Birds need a bird partner of the same species to be truly happy in the long run.

My cousin had a roommate who had an intelligent 🦜 bird like this . He(bird) didn't really like my cousin very much .one day I went over to visit my cousin when his ROOMATES was at work and we were getting drunk and I started making fun of my cousin and we noticed when I was laughing at my cousin after insulting him the bird would laugh his head off with me. He(bird) was so happy to get his chuckles in against my cousin 😂 LOLOL ever since then I really loved birds 🦜

This is a treat! I've never heard Dad's voice, nor seen Mom's face, nor did I ever know their names: Ken and Jennifer. I watch Buster at least once a day. If I see him on TikTok, I just keep scrolling. He always makes me smile, and often makes me laugh out loud. He's also touching at times. One day he was watching Dad working outside from the window. He either wanted to be outside with him, or wanted Dad back inside.. At one point he turned to the camera (Mom always holds the camera) and said, "It's not fair." He said it so clearly, and his voice was sad. So many people think parrots just mimic. Not true at all. Cockatoos especially have actual conversations with their humans, though it's not always easy to understand what they're saying. But you can tell from the back and forth from bird to human that there's a lot going on in that complex bird brain. I love all birds, but Cockatoos have long been my favourite. If I didn't live in an apartment in a house built in 1298 in Italy where sound travels in the oddest way, I would rescue one in a heartbeat. Cockatoos are the most re-homed parrots because they can be extremely loud and require the same attention as a two year old intent on sticking a fork into the electric outlet. I was once "chosen" by a huge Cockatoo in need of rescue, but there was no way for me to take him. That was 36 years ago. I still think about him, and about that missed opportunity. I hope someone took him home and loved him.

Buster is like having an infant to teenager all in one. Alllll day looonnnggg.
Friendly reminder that cockatoos live between 40-70 years in captivity and are a full-time commitment. They latch onto one or two individuals and require constant attention and time outside the cage. They become depressed and neurotic if left alone for long periods of time / if they have to be separated from their owner. If you have a job that keeps you away from the house, and you can't bring them with you, you probably shouldn't buy one of these birds. They're a lot to handle.

Yes, it’s so beautiful to see but you have to be realistic. My grandma had one who adored her. When she passed my uncle took the him, but he was always working and busy with his wife and kids. They never had time for the bird who was already mourning. He began to behave wild; yelling, banging the cage and eventually plucking his feathers. It was soo sad. We were upset my uncle gave him to a friend because then we never heard about him. We would have taken him in because that was my grandmas pride and joy- he was never wild or violent. It was just the circumstance in which he became depressed mourning for a loved one the way we were. They were both such loving pure souls- miss them so much 🙏🏼💙
No they dont need 24/7 attention and no they dont bond with one person only this isnt even a good thing its more stressful for the bird than owner all bird have to learn to get along with other people if they dont then tuff luck it be a cage bird anyway it just thr harsh truth if my parrot became a one person bird snd only liked one person from my family i dont care it still my parrot and id just keep it with my caged bound wither it like or not as i am the owner

I would have loved to give him a hug and show him kindness, love, acceptance and understanding but he probably would be so depressed he would not want to know about it.. 😥. @@KAHHHH8548 Aww thank you so much for your kind words and compassion. Yes, at the time my mom, sister and I were so distraught. Our world was turned updside down. We visited my grandma (mother’s mother) weekly and spoke on the phone everyday. She was the glue that held the family together, there was always food and love when you went to her home. She also often fed the homeless and cared for the neighborhood kids. We didn’t even think to take in the birds because there was so much going on and we were told they would be taken care of. It was amazing how much heart these beautiful intelligent creatures have. As I mentioned this particular bird, Blanco was never violent, he really just lost it consumed by grief much like we did, but as humans and with the fact that we had eachother, we found ways to cope. Unfortunately, Blanco didnt. His loyalty to my grandmother still amazes us and pray he has been put in better hands 🙏🏼💙

Cockatoos are so possessive ...he's not telling dad about his day, he's fussing at dad for leaving him. They are ecstatic when you return but will give you a piece of their mind for leaving in the first place. They are so cute but they require absolute total commitment.

Whatever floats their boat. It's a big commitment, having to replace an entire flock of birds as a family unit. Even dogs want to be left alone sometimes, but not these guys. If done improperly, you have a stressed out bird plucking all its feathers out (they do not grow back). They are intelligent and can find ways to occupy themselves in a rainforest for hours, but if you raise one, it's on you to do it. No rest for the wicked.
My understanding is that all it’s of the parrot family are like this, they mate for life on the wild and similarly they bond closely with one human and that’s THEIR human forever!
Think I saw it on one of those vet shows on animal planet. Kinda sweet but sad if they have to be separated.
