The fact he was kept in a cage so small he couldn't even open his wings just breaks my heart. Keeping them that confined and providing no mental stimulation is literal torture. He is traumatized and it's really all down to his new owners that he has recovered even a little. I am so grateful he was given a new life. ❤
Its sickens me thats someone would treat any living creature that way let alone one so beautiful and sweet! I mean why would you get the bird in the first place if you didnt want to take care of it….makes me soooooooo maaaaaad!😡
@@markwdavis I totally agree with you! Hope his former owners get awful karma someday soon!!
Agreed honestly it could be labeled as animal abuse.
Some people need to leave Earth ASAP!
😢😢😢😢😢
What a great story. Thanks to the wonderful people who rescued this beautiful bird. Inspiring and uplifting end to the day!
So glad they rescued this bird. He is so loved and loves in return.
Love him 😍😍
So many people do not understand how intelligent these beautiful creatures are. Mistreatment through ignorance is the biggest problem with these birds. So glad you showed him love; he responded well as they usually do. Patience and love won Edgar over.
Not to mention, this particular breed of parrot can live 40 years. People who get one without any concept of the kind and duration of the responsibility are doing a true disservice to these animals.
They can live 80-100 years!
@@thetoiletgirl2 I don't think that's the case for this particular species of parrot
Cockatoos are the #1 rehomed bird. Because people see cute cuddly cokatoos online not understanding that it's inappropriate to indulge in the cuddles. Because for them it's sexual and causes them to become hormonal and aggressive then they get re-homed.
I've seen a lot of older people getting baby parrots. Like if you're older you should adopt a older bird.
My mom had a Malaccan cockatoo when I was a teen. He basically become mine, I'm the only one who would feed him, take care of him, play with him. My mom kicked me out at 16 for two years. I cam back and she told me stay out of the "bird room". I had to sneak in there and I found him almost starved to death, with his feathers ripped out. I convinced her to give him to a sanctuary while I secretly nursed him back to health. I still cry sometimes thinking about what it must have been like to live locked up in a cage for two years, starving. I wish people would stop buying birds if they're not going to give them all the attention they need.
@jupiterthree5228 Wow! 😀🌸💕👍🦜❗️
Maybe you have a narcissist mother.
What happened to him? He was probably grieving your loss. I hope he gets to see you now and then
That's just horrible!! I'm so glad u convinced her to give him away..that's no life for a bird n that's why I'm going to spend the rest of my life trying to rescue birds in that same situation..well done to u for doing something about it n know u did something really good n special!! It's wonderful so I hope u don't get upset anymore..u saved him xx
So sad thank u for helping that bird.
He's such a sweetheart, thank you for adopting him!
Thank you for rescuing this sweet baby!!
Thank you for saving this beautiful bird and giving him a loving home.
Such a wonderful bird. 99% of people have no clue how to treat a parrot. Be it a Cockatoo, Amazon or Macaw,... they all are perpetual toddlers full of real human like emotions. Have had parrots since I was 10 years old. Over the last 4 decades, of learning and caring for parrots they are as faithful and a dog, as smart as a 6 year old, and as loving as can be.
"as smart as a 6 year old"😂😂😂😂😂
@@internetcensure5849 nothing to scoff at. Dogs usually measure up to toddler’s intelligence….
even a Budgie or Cockatiel... Gumtree bird sales have me crying and wishing I could rescue them all!
Just eat it.. just another beef pork item
❤🙋🕊️😍Every living thing responds to love. Also get depressed sick and mentally ill in bad care. I shared such a loving bond with my Umbrella Cockatoo. She was my baby girl 😂
This is so heartwarming 😍 My friend had 2 of these birds and they would scream , " JENNIFER , JENNIFER " all day long . Her daughters name was Jennifer . 😆 She eventually , surrendered them to a retired truck driver . One day I'm at the park and I hear , " JENNIFER , JENNIFER " . The dude and his wife , were walking them in a cat stroller . Those birds were being treated like royalty . Happy ending , all around .
This is such a cute story ❤
Heartwarming story and uplifting too.
😂perfect happy ending

Sir, you are this bird's guardian angel. And the love you two share just flows out to all of us on RUclips.
Thank you, brother.
For being a miracle in this lovely creature's life.
YOU are a real man. Thought they had all disappeared.
What a wonderful guy for giving Edgar a better life. The more research that comes out shows that birds are way smarter than first thought and that their capacity to feel and to have emotions and remember good things and traumas that happen to them is much deeper than anyone could have imagined. How someone could do that to another, thinking feeling soul is awful. I have a 1 year old cockatiel, and she is the sweetest thing and loves me so much. I couldn't imagine treating her like that. She's like my baby. She's so excited to see me when I come home and wants to cuddle up as close as she can get to me all the time. She's so smart and learning more every week. It's really like teaching a child, and she's treated like one, too. I make a point to spoil and to love on her. If you're gonna have pets that have souls and that think and feel and have emotions, don't be a garbage human and mistreat them.
T O, great comment,I couldn't agree more.

Thanks for rescuing him and giving him the life he deserves. Appalling behaviour from the previous owner, i hope theyre reported for their cruelty.
Animals need so much more than food, they need safety, security, kindness, they need our company. It's disturbing to realize the animal you've adopted has a past that hurt them, but kindness and patience can make such a difference. I wish Edgar and his family all the best 💕♥️
Sadly people forget that an animal is like a plant that just needs water every few days
They often intelligent enough to realize they need companionship
Exactly! This case is like my kitty. I adopted her at 5, don't know anything about her previous owners but she was soooo skittish. I've had to teach her how to play, and that it's okay to swat and nip like a normal cat. Used to be she'd bat my hand or a toy then throw herself down amd cower like she was about to get hurt for just being a cat. She's getting better, I got a love nip the other day lol she doesn't teeth my hand then sprint away from me anymore.
I never expected my kitty to be a lap cat either but she's now a little velcro cat, am typing this with her sitting on the bed next to me wagging her tail impatiently waiting for snoozies 🤣 I've had her for nearly three years now and she's such a sweet clingy spoiled baby, I have no idea how anyone could mistreat her.
@@GrimFelArt poor kitty I am so glad shes ok now.

You guys are the best. What a lucky bird and lucky you for discovering a whole new world. Sigh. I love stories like this 💕
I was having a hard day and this story really just filled my heart. This parrot is so loving and this family is just absolutely amazing in every single way. This reminds me that there are good humans out there! Please let every parrot have a family like this one that loves them so deeply and eternally.
What a cute little guy, all I have to say is thank God for people like yourselves
I can't tolerate people who abuse any animal period
People don't understand how sweet and loving a bird could be until they have one of these. They are sooo loving. They will love you as much as you love them. They are extremely intelligent too. Best of luck with your beautiful cockatoo
So glad this sweet little fellow got the life he deserved with all the love and joy in the World.
Aww, happy to hear he is in better hands, he is such a sweetheart 🫶🏾
Thank you. I rescued a cockatiel from down into Florida keys and I was fortunate enough to have him and his love for 6 years. Once they love you there's nothing better than the love of a pet
I love how he went from nameless to most people knowing his name ❤
Poor baby! How dare his previous owners do that to him, stuffing him in a parakeet cage and just straight up neglecting him. They deserved to get attacked by him. Thank god for you and your partner for rescuing him and giving him the loving and spoiled life he deserves. We need more people like guys in this world.
Correction: he didn't determine he is human, he's been broken by humans and this is the result. People underestimate how difficult taking care of parrots is, so it's good to see that Edgar found a great home in the end.
That tiny cage would barely fit a tiny budgie, that's fookin heartbreakin
@@Adirondaque Yeah, large birds require insanely large cages, even if you let them out every day (as you should). Even small birds need cages far bigger than most think. :(

Thank you for rescuing and taking care of this precious life.
You are birds to him, the flock. Thank you guys for caring about this little guy and giving him the best life!!❤❤❤
We’ve been visited daily by a local flock of sulphur-crested cockatoos for 23 years now, being bestowed the honour of being incorporated into their culture for the last stop before evening, where they can have a drink of fresh water and a snack of almonds and the occasional water cracker (on the rare occasion we’ve run out of our stock of almonds).
They prefer to be handed each morsel and wait patiently for their turn to receive it rather than share from any kind of dish or plate, so this is a quiet and well ordered process.
We had a neighbour a few doors down about 15 years ago who had himself a caged cockatoo who screeched unhappily throughout the day from its cage in the backyard and we suspected the man neglected him. When you get to know cockatoos, being around them daily, you begin to notice that although they all sounded alike in the beginning, the truth is that each one indeed has its very own individual signature of sound.
So for about 2 years, that poor caged cockatoos’ unanswered calls became the backdrop audio to our daily lives…until one day when he escaped. We don’t know how it happened, but we began to hear him calling from the trees in our vicinity, and we worried that he didn’t know where, or even how, to forage for food…as those things are known only by the indigenous wild flocks who spend each day travelling the routes they’ve travelled for generations.
We tried offering him food and water throughout the following weeks, leaving both out for the entire day in the hope he’d help himself to it. We noticed some of the food and water would sometimes be reduced by fractions, but never witnessed him visiting. We strongly suspected he’d developed a logical fear of humans, so only came at times when he’d watched us leave to run errands etc..
Then, as if by magic, we noticed he began to visit when the wild flock came. And this is where we watched him quietly take the last position in line, seemingly shy because the wild birds eyed him carefully and with some suspicion. But as months went by he was slowly accepted as an acquaintance, not yet a member privy to their secret feeding grounds.
And then, out of the blue sky one day, he arrived raucously and joyfully *with* the wild birds rather than from his usual nearby trees he’d lived his most unusual and unnatural solitary life thus far. It was clearly apparent he’d been finally taken in by the flock, having earned his position through his consistent and patient humility borne through an inner wisdom to *know* his place in their pecking order.
Now, years later, he is the one who arrives first and heralds the flock with his indelible and unmistakable call to tell them it’s time to sup before retiring to their private trees and warm spaces for the night..
Cockatoos are incredibly social birds whose strength lies in their structure, culture, and connection to each other. So whenever I hear stories about a caged cockatoo being neglected, I know that bird is suffering on a very deep level…and it breaks my heart every time. 💔😔
Oh, and I forgot to mention this..
Shortly after he’d escaped his cage and captor, we’d occasionally hear a lone beating of wings nearby, but it didn’t sound like it was a bird in flight, rather it was a sound that didn’t move. We were stumped…until one day we caught sight of him gripping the branch he stood upon with his still powerful feet, while he flapped his wings for minutes at a time, revealing that he was exercising them, strengthening them, preparing himself for sustained flight…which is when we realised he was a profoundly intelligent bird who knew *so much* in his inherently wild heart, and was also the moment we knew without doubt that he would survive.😌
Raven, thanks for the great story.

I bought a riding mule some years back. She was well trained but extremely nervous and untrusting of peoples hands etc. I have worked and worked with her and shown her care, attention and gentle hands. She has slowly grown into the sweetest girl. She comes when I show up or call her, she runs to me talking and asking to be petted or brushed and is a real pleasure to ride and handle. Animals are mostly like that, you show them love and respect and be trustworthy and they will respond and return it. They are perfectly intelligent beings with feelings and moods and the whole show.
Bless these selfless souls that give such a sweet neglected baby a home.

Wonderful story. I've read so many horrific stories of people mistreating cockatoos because they require so much. Even one guy left a cockatoo in a closet for years in the basement and hardly fed him. I'm sooooooo glad he has a good responsible home now. Thank you for sharing!
Did someone rescue the cockatoo from the closet?
@@84Mazzy Someone did, after hearing it crying, but only after several 2-3 years passed. He was so thin. Taken to vet, but eventually died due to all of his medical issues. I saved this story somewhere. If I find it, I'll post it. There are so many bad stories that I read. I was doing my research before buying a cockatoo. Most people end up abandoning these types of birds to shelters because they don't realize how much work, time, and financially demanding they are....not to mention how they impact your life as you live for 20-60 years. Most people are not prepared to be responsible for so long and with all of life's demands.
He is just so lucky to have the 2 of you. He is finally getting to live his best life ever.

Precious beautiful bird. My father's name is Edgar 😅
Many thanks to the caring couple who welcomed this feathered beauty into their lives! Edgar will return all that love tenfold; you can tell he's a real sweetheart.
When I saw the cage he was kept in for so long, my heart just broke for him; I cannot ever imagine keeping a bird in cage that small. All parrots are incredibly intelligent, & cockatoos especially are mechanically inclined, so they require a great deal of mental stimulation (think unlock locks, unscrewing your doorknobs, & bolts & nuts; they love that kind of thing). I'm so glad Edgar is with people who will love him, & give him the best life possible. He may not be able to fly, but the love this family will share will make their hearts soar!
What some humans are capable of doing to animals in a way of being cruel and heartless towards them is mind boggling and very upsetting to me because I love all animals. Thank you for rescuing this beautiful bird and giving him a loving forever home!
It's always great to see how animals change as soon as they get a better life after being neglected. They are so grateful.

Glad to see Edgar get a good and loving home. I befriended an Umbrella Cockatoo when I worked at a pet store. He was my constant companion through my day. He would "help" me take care of the other animals. Unfortunately for me he got his forever home a couple weeks after I started working there. The people who bought him loved the way he would sit on my shoulder and hold my ear for balance, as well as let just about anyone pet him. He loved pets and when he was a good birdie he would get a couple of pine nuts as a treat. After he left, I worked on socializing a Scarlet Macaw that lived with kids who would bang on his cage to see him open his wings and stuff. He was not a good bird when I started working with him. I eventually got him to the point that anyone who worked in the store could hold and pet him without getting bitten, and even customers could if one of us were holding him. When it came time to clip the flight feathers he would even hold out his wings to let me clip him. Before this we would have to wrap him up in a towel to get the job done because he was terrified of the scissors. The whole process was really stressful for him, but me working with him and getting him over his fears made him a wonderful bird. I really miss those 2.
Edgar's story made me cry, first in sadness then with happiness. God bless you for keeping and loving him 🙏 ❤️. All animals deserve unconditional love because that's what they give to us 🥰.

So happy you guys kept him! It's obvious he's very loved, and very well cared for. I think people have a hard time understanding that birds like this ( birds period) are incredibly intelligent, and emotional, and playful.
