That is very true. I had a brand new Dodge diesel full-size pick up burn to the ground in front of my place and it was quite noisy and had several wall shaking explosions (tires and such). It's not like they were big explosions, mind you, but when watching a truck literally burn to slag in front of you they can be unnerving. Guy had bought the truck two week prior to this and he said the disel engine ran away and he and his friend had to bail. That sucked for him for sure. Hopefully , his insurance paid out for him.
While the horn did freak me out a little, I knew it was just wires burning and melting together causing a short. It’s amazing what fire will do when electricity is present. I’m also totally relieved that a body wasn’t found.
Absolutely fucking insane. Thanks for traveling through Detroit to capture this footage! Appreciate all the work that goes into your content Dan, you are truly one of the best on the internet
It's always interesting to see these abandon homes and neighborhoods and to think they were once filled with families. All of those homes at one point had well kept lawns, decent neighbors, kids running around the block with classic cars driving around. It's sad.
Now what's left? Looted, burned, destroyed, trashed, decrepit homes that are staples and memories of a once decent time in life. Unlike now, where if you go in those houses at night, you'll probably be raped and you'll probably die afterwards, no shit. If the families that lived there 40 years prior could see what is happening in these rundown houses I wonder what they'd think, they'd probably be utterly confused.
Jimiplayscobo democratic control ruined it. Too many restrictions on major companies, too many foreign imports putting said companies out of business. From there the economy fails
@@brucehades6323 North Americans and the big 3 ignored imports at first saying their too small and gutless. The big 3 continued down the same path putting out junk gas guzzlers as they did in the past. Time went by and the imports were getting known to be more reliable and better made and less fuel consumption cars. The big 3 failed because they built crap cars and ignored fuel economy. Detroit was dependent on the big 3 to survive. Thinking imports can't hurt us. Most of the people layed off have no other skills to fall back on. Being in a city based on the sale of autos they end up on welfare. You can go on and on why Detroit is the way it is but that I think is the main reason:) Peace
Two sides to it, there are many roads/neighborhoods that are largely abandoned with nobody around, but on the flip side this means criminals are hanging out/bring their victims/do their crimes because it is so secluded and law enforcement/firefighters would either take a while to get out there if at all.
have you ever watched the Shae Show on you tube? Detroit city man who manages property for people who buy those old houses and use them for section 8 housing and rentals-its very eye opening-those old houses were built during the big auto heydays -its a damn shame
Looks like a 2008+ cadillac CTS and I can tell by the engine oil housing its a gm 3.6L V6 ..definitely a slightly popular car and more than likely a stolen car , you probably witnessed what they do when they ditch stolen cars.
Agreed. Cadillac stolen car #1. Done with it. Torch it. Use stolen car #2, Mercedes, as get away car. Soon they will be done with Mercedes. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
Those were some well built homes, I can tell much work was put into them when constructed, and their architecture was impressive when built. Much care and pride was put into building Detroit's neighborhoods I can tell judging by the styling of the buildings. It's a shame to see what shape they are in today.
Justin McCowan was cheeper to let go. Or that's what one property owner stated who lives in a area where people have stuff dragged out of their house and he had to approach a few of them to stop it. I forget the guys name but when he run up on someone they drop and take off. He never show it on camera but I think he carries a few side arms.
Paul Lewis yep that sounds about right really. If the police cant make money out of you through some fine they are not interested..sad state of affairs.
TBH, I remember it being the same pre-austerity: in 2006/7, I was walking my then-girlfriend home after she had been on a night out and was assaulted for no reason by a couple of thugs. (Luckily, I went to the school of hard knocks, so when they struck me about the head, I fell to the floor but got up again pretty quickly - otherwise I've no doubt they would have put the boot in, and I also think one of them had a Stanley knife in his pocket.) I ended up going to the hospital with concussion, a split lip and a black eye, but when my girlfriend called the police, all we were given was a crime log number. I remember a few other incidents from the early 2000s (ie, pre-austerity), when my father was attacked by a car thief, and another when his works van was stolen from outside my parents' house. Even then, the police didn't have any interest in investigating any of these crimes. Personally, I think the rot set in during the 1990s, when community policing seemed to break down.

As bad as Detroit is, at least it's getting some kind of press (negative or otherwise). I'm from Gary, IN. The city that God and everyone else forgot...........
Unless you drive down there it’s hard to even believe what it’s like, some RESIDENTIAL BLOCKS have one house.... It’s like driving through a war zone, an ACTIVE WAR ZONE. I’m surprised the police came THAT quick!
Pretty sure the teardowns started in 67 after the riots. Unlike la, folks just left after they destroyed the city. The city has definitely suffered urban blight as the former 95% Detroit white population left to to the suburbs of Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb county
Ameretsu Shidori I'm definitely not racist. I'm pretty sure whites were not the ones burning buildings in their neighborhoods in 67. (I was referring to this time period that Dan referred to as to when the city started destroying vacant areas). Also the Milliken desegragation codes led a lot of middle and upper class people to leave the city. 50 years of democrat control also drove out to the city's tax base. (Why live in Detroit if Ferndale or Dearborn has lower property tax)?... You may notice I'm just stating facts here if you actually did some research on white flight. Also I love the city if you can't tell based upon the redwings logo in my profile thumbnail.

Good work and thanks for sharing, but actually I am surprised at how surprised everyone seems to be at this incident, both on camera and in the comments. I get the adrenaline rush at the scene but this is happening all the time out there in the real world i.e. offline. This is the real tragedy. A car being burnt for insurance or to cover the tracks of a more serious crime is not some sort of isolated incident. Particularly driving around the abandoned parts of Detroit after dark, on a scale of 1-10 this is in the very low range for drama.
oh my god what an insane night!! So glad you are all safe. I can only imagine how unsettling it must have been- especially not knowing if anyone was in there. Incredible footage as always! Look at all the waste and garbage. Where is humanity. These homes could of been fixed or kept up. Well some of them. Breaks my heart to see this. And that car , omg, insane!
Most of those homes were foreclosed on in 2008 because people bought them with money they didn't have, which brought down multiple banks and collapsed the economy. Yes, it happened all over the US, but Detroit got hit very, very badly. It's a humanitarian disaster no one wants to talk about.
Nathan Obral That last sentence really hits the nail on the head. No one - especially those in power - wants to talk about the suffering of the disadvantaged.
You are right. I have seen it all over and its a waste of resources. Those homes cost a lot of money when they were built and to just let them lay in waste is ridiculous. Which Detroit is obviously a high crime city and no one would want to live in a place with a lot of crime but it has to start somewhere, fixing these houses and salvaging these neighborhoods will help put a stop to crime, at least I think its a start.

as a Detroiter born and raised, you do NOT just chill. Its not ok and it wont be alright. Even the folks from those hoods dont do the shit you were doin, especially after dark. Incredibly stupid of you, but the bravest shit i have ever seen.
It is fine.....chill
Chill oouuuttttt, everyone's alright 🤷♂️ (if ya get the quote, much love)
The sound of a car on fire is awful. Especially whatever triggers the horn to drone on like that.
I was already unnerved before the horn went off! That just made it more eerie! 😱
Check out charliebo313 if you like this sort of video. He does videos of the hell of Americas forgotten cities all the time
Damn Detroit, you scary
I agree, damm scary
My favorite part of the video was listening to Dan having to calm those poor kids down... nice work Dan👍🏽
@Trantor The Troll It's much more complicated then that. Do some research
it might change your opinion:) Peace
@Trantor The Troll my money was on trump. He said he was bringing back jobs but nothing is showing in Detroit.
Man... y'all are insane.. ain't no way in hell I'd roll threw that hood...
Jaded_one Honestly, the urban blight of Detroit is largely abandoned, to the point where it's not that dangerous.
gallowsgradient it just is a sketchy ass place... a car getting blown up... naw. I'm good.. lol
Two sides to it, there are many roads/neighborhoods that are largely abandoned with nobody around, but on the flip side this means criminals are hanging out/bring their victims/do their crimes because it is so secluded and law enforcement/firefighters would either take a while to get out there if at all.
I second that motion.
gallowsgradient wrong. East side is actually the most dangerous.
I love ADR... but I am so happy to see an old school Dan Bell video of something other than hotel rooms!
I wholeheartedly agree with you. I could never get into the dirty room series
Pretty neat to find out you were within an hour drive of my house.
Having said that, why the hell were you here?! Go away! It isn't safe!
Yeah NEAT!
The horn going off represents the car screaming as it is on fire.
Wow. Holy shit that was crazy. My adrenaline was pumping and i wasnt even there
Pussy
@@britiw be quiet you beta
have you ever watched the Shae Show on you tube?
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
2014 or newer CTS v6. Look at the location of the reverse lights and the shape of the headlights.
That might be the fastest response time from police and fire in Detroit, ever!
Make more vids like these! I also miss your exploration/documentary vids, keep em coming!
He never show it on camera but I think he carries a few side arms.
in the UK, they would have taken about 26 days before coming out..
That's true unless you tell them there is also someone doing 31 in a 30, in which case they will be straight round.
Or they would have just given you a crime log number and left it at that.
Paul Lewis yep that sounds about right really. If the police cant make money out of you through some fine they are not interested..sad state of affairs.
James 1975 austerity....cuts... profitability... the government is to blame though!
These videos make everyone anxious I think lol
I love that Dan is always clear thinking and chill.
I get the same feeling watching your documentaries as I do when I look at photos from the great depression. Thanks for keeping it real.
Dan Bell: "There's a body in the driver's seat".
Jake Williams: "WHAT"?!!
ROTFLMAO 😂😂
Dan has the mind and calm quality of a Director. I like this. Keeps me coming back. Dan, bring people with you who won't freak out as much next time. ;) Sorry guys, but you gotta toughen up a bit if you want to get good action recorded without losing your position or 'scene'. Details.
Purple Crow - TOH LPC
Yes I totally agree 👏
I think they probably agree too, but then they feel like OH, YES -- we're with Dan Bell, we will be fine! Maybe their voices of panic add to the presentation that most would be freaked out. Also maybe they were thinking Dan would try to get out of the car eventually.
Yeah i agree... Those dudes were actin like pussy's
Yeah Jake is always such a little bitch! Lol
it’s clear as fuck that nobody in Dan’s Car has ever spent more than 10 minutes in a bad neighborhood in their entire life. Lmao they clearly been protected from hood shit their whole lifes’.
"Theres a body in the drivers seat" -Dan "I'm really just trying to keep everyone calm" Bell
It was the only thing that got his friend to call the cops lol
Detroit doesn't disappoint. I've lived around Detroit all my life and it definitely keeps things interesting.
As It's been said though, it has gotten a lot better, but it still has a long way to go.
This is absolutely fantastic production quality. I love the way you piece it all together. Very polished, despite the somewhat horrifying situation you encountered.
The rust belt section of America is fascinating for all the reasons that it shouldn't be. A literal manifestation of a zombie apocalypse narrative. I mean no offense to those who currently reside in that section of America, and are fighting to make it a better place.
WarlordRising grew up outside of Youngstown, Ohio...you aren't kidding! same thing down that way too, it's sad.
Justin B I totally agree, the drugs seem to be such an issue too in NEO. GM closing down in Lordstown will only make it worse. I actually grew up in Trumbull County, hopefully good things will come to this area! I understand what you're saying.
I think if he was more popular it wouldnt be as special an experience. Im glad his channel is a slow burner.👍
I like how Dan just says
“There’s someone in the driver’s seat”
so nonchalantly 😂
nat brat was there really or was he kidding?
And probably this video only netted 1k. Shame.
Something tells me you don't have to drive around for long to witness a felony in those areas.
It’s the peoplle in those neighborhoods that scare me. If they were truly abandoned, it would be a safe place to go.
Holy freaking crap Dan! I knew when the guys were yelling to get out of there, you would turn around and go back, that is your nature. Good thing you were there to report all this to the police!! Dan Bell, investigative reporter!!! Lol
That's an orb weaving spider, we have heaps of those in Australia too.. particularly in places with lots of greenery
Glad you're back Dan Bell.
Jake: "LEAVE NOW!"
Dan, who is steeped like tea in Baltimore's nonsense: "Let's drive back."
Sigh, I'm both these people lol
If you are, your ass must be sore
As bad as Detroit is, at least it's getting some kind of press (negative or otherwise). I'm from Gary, IN. The city that God and everyone else forgot...........
slapyasak such a sketchy looking city even from the skyway driving by.
It suffered a similar fate as Detroit. Just replace the auto industry with the steel industry
slapyasak so what are some pros and cons of Gary?
The Jackson family (MICHAEL) small house before they got famous. Con's Criminal Activity.
house of 1000 demons is there
There's something so haunting about your documentaries. I love them. Keep up the amazing work. And, PLEASE, be safe!
I love that you take time to make smooth transitions in the audio, thanks!
Unless you drive down there it’s hard to even believe what it’s like, some RESIDENTIAL BLOCKS have one house.... It’s like driving through a war zone, an ACTIVE WAR ZONE. I’m surprised the police came THAT quick!
Dan it’s like you knew I was doing an essay on Detroit and wanted to help me out. 👌🏼👏🏼
Dan delivers!I swear Dan..you are a RUclips cinematic legend...you capture ever aspect that makes film amazing... + you are one funny dude!
Bob Wood, racist or not racist, it is a fact, you fucking idiot
@@beitie No, he's right. The riots were literally called the Detroit Race Riots. It was an attempt to push out the white majority and it did work
@@Evedupree1998 The comment I replied to was removed months... maybe even years ago. Sorry to sound odd, but what you read from me is now very much out of context.
@@Evedupree1998 what was their goal with pushing out whites?
Dan, thanks! I have really missed your videos like this! Please do more abandoned and crime videos :)
The first street you went down looks like my grandma's old street. (St.Marys). You're petty brave to drive around Detroit at night.
Thank you Dan for bringing content like this to RUclips really interesting!
This video deserves way more views. I forgot what the title was and I was looking through Dan's library of videos, and I thought sorting through the "most popular" ones would get me here but it didnt.
Just when my life is fokding me up like a beach chair
I can type in "Dan Bell"
and then its better
Thank you for that!
Folding, was the word .
Nice metaphor
Okay, the music, or at least the initial track, reminds me of Ennio Morricone's score for The Thing. Love it.
This was on the edge of your seat stuff great work dan. Loved it. And please tell me that the 4th episode of another dirty room is coming soon. 🤗😜👍👌👏
being from detroit and watching this is absolutely surreal
So you don't use a dashcam with acceptable night capablities?I didn't expect that!
Hell you guys were lucky , that was so so sketchy , glad ya all got out in one piece
WOW this is incredible. There's something about the cold, tough streets of Detroit that are so intriguing to me. As weird as it sounds, I really want to go up there and visit.
Dan this is one of my fav videos you did what are the chances you would see this you were so calm all of you guys are the best thank you for sharing this video
Detroit and areas of Memphis make me so sad. I feel overcome with a weird sense of lost history/erased existence.
Kept me on the edge of my seat once again! You have THE best videos
Exceptional work Dan! You never disappoint! Thank you!🤘🏼👍🏼
Good News Everybody. Today you will be delivering a package to Farnsworth St in Detroit.
That intro kicked ass...
oh my god what an insane night!! So glad you are all safe. I can only imagine how unsettling it must have been- especially not knowing if anyone was in there. Incredible footage as always! I'm amazed but not surprised that you were able to pull it together and film and get those really great close-ups! I wonder how Rick would have reacted :O
Yes, these are your best videos ... the atmosphere the loneliness the silence and the night, more videos like that and thanks
Dan, I want to let you know that I really enjoy your videos. And I thank you for taking the time to entertain us. But risking your life is not worth it. Your safety is worth more to us than placing yourself in a very dangerous situation to entertain.
Look at all the waste and garbage. Where is humanity. These homes could of been fixed or kept up. Well some of them. Breaks my heart to see this. And that car , omg, insane!
P.s. awesome video like always dan. 😉
stacy graves I feel that. The city has so many homeless individuals. Fixing the homes up and making affordable housing would be so simple, but no.
Love Dan and his work. Shows parts of the country and the people that are largely ignored.
Such a great video!!
You need a safer hobby 😱
Dan is one ballsy dude!
I love all of your series Dan. Every week I anticipate a new video. Stay safe all of you guys. It doesn't matter if your going through bug infested hotel rooms, or on the crime infested streets. You keep your viewer on the edge of their seats.
Dan telling his children to simmer down is the greatest thing ever hahaha
*2:21** I’ll have two number nines*
Bailey and Addie I hope this is a San Andreas reference 👀🤔
T M yup lol
Dan Bell will have the Best videos for Trump's apocalypse!!!
Pure intensity, Dan. Someone was still inside that car?! Whoa! Excellent footage. Dan, you were truly calm, cool, and collected.
It seems that the car didn't have anyone in it. It just appeared that way initially. To Dan anyway.
This is where starscape was held but the last festival was in 2014. People kept O.D. and it's now moonrise at pimlico
