Aileen Wournos asked my grandfather for a ride once. He was parked at a shopping center on Beeville rd in Daytona. He told her he couldn't because my grandmother was inside the store and she would be coming out any time. He said she seemed very nice and that he felt bad for her because it was raining and she was soaking wet. He told me 3 weeks later he saw her on the news, arrested for murder. He never got over that and used to tell people all the time that he met a serial killer and lived to tell.
Aileen had a hellish life since she was a little girl. Everybody betrayed her since she was born. How could this poor woman not to snap finally? She did not deserve to be killed by the government. I feel empathy for her, her life was a nightmare, abused, victimized during all her life. I do not condone the killings she committed, but I can understand her rage, her sadness, she was tired of being a victim and then she went to the other extreme: being a predator. May she rest in peace. This documentary is a real gem. What a shame that RUclips had demonetize this video, there is no appreciation of art, mastery in making videos like this ones. Dan Bell: thanks for this marvelous documentary. A real gem
I’ve always had such a soft spot in my heart for Aileen. After everything I’ve watched with her, she was a funny person, fun to be around and all her life she just wanted to be loved. The life she endured, starting as a young child, I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Her life was a life of simply surviving and keeping hope that one day she’d find someone to love her. You’re a phenomenal filmmaker ❤
The film Monster and anything dealing with Alieen fascinates me. I feel that a lot of female sex workers have had a similar past as hers. The question in my mind isn’t “How could she do what she did, was it really in self defense?” but after knowing the repeated sexual, physical and verbal abuse these women have to deal with-the real question is “Why doesn’t this happen more often?”
Nightmare Theater Because it takes a hell of a lot mentally for a person to kill another. Yes, she snapped but others might not. Some take the bad things that happen to them and grow from it. Others let it destroy them. It's about being strong on the inside. I think most people chose not to take out their terrible past out on others because not only is it wrong, but they want to be good people. When a person "snaps", they only care about their own gratification and nothing else. The general population isn't going to do these type of things. It takes not just the past, but also a special kind of event in the present to send someone over the edge.
True. But, I think a lot of those type of people have a lot of anger and boiling inside of them. And sometimes a person can be sent over the edge very easily.
We know that claiming abuse is a common defense tactic when trying to justify the crime after you cannot argue it away. It has been proven to be a false claim so many times that we have to be skeptical. Even a repentant and already imprisoned person will parrot that narrative for themselves and others until their death. No matter what the truth is, she made dozens of terrible life choices and shouldn't be celebrated for that. Her legacy is that of a murderer. Nothing more.
Nightmare Theater It happens often. There are women serving 60 to life or death row for committing a crime that should be considered self defense. Women are treated unfairly, like Aileen was. Now think of the women of color.
THANK YOU for sharing the sick background of Richard Mallory. I always believed he was the one who really messed her up. Obviously I don't condone her actions, but she did have a heartbreaking childhood. Awesome video, Dan!
She Won Everything He is the one made Her finally made Her snap. She already had Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from Her horrific Childhood. But He not only triggered that, He gave Her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the current. She was having flashbacks with all those Men & felt like She was with Him again.
You haven't gotten the perspective of the victims. It's one thing to be paying for a willing hooker. It's another thing viewing all of them as rapists.@@niccolom4556
dontswin She literally said they were all in the starting stages of beginning to rape her. Notice she didn't kill ALL her clients. She killed those who were going to rape her or did. Do u even know how often or easy it is to rape prostitutes? No one gives a shxxxt! Imagine trying to take that to court? Some people act as if hookers can't get raped because they're selling sex!
I suppose it all comes down to if you believe her words. She still got the death penalty. I never said she should be vindicated because they were rapists. Dead men tell no tales. What makes you think she was telling the truth? Consider the fact that she might be considered a psychopath by killing multiple men. No matter how you look at it, she may have played the self defense card but the fact is the law levied the ultimate punishment. I guess the question really is 'does a rape or attempted rape of a prostitute justify killing them on the spot? I can't answer that one. None of the murders played out the same exact way, no one can verify that.@@niccolom4556
dontswin Well, nothing in her behavior suggests she killed random people, and she was actually charged for killing her rapist. The guy that DID rape her. She flat out said she was raped by him but not the others (they were just going to rape, as in ,beginning to force/get violent). You are aware of her childhood, so you should know what triggers her. She didn't meet those men to kill them from the start. She was trying to make money. She's well aware of which guys are scumbags, and she didn't kill every guy that crossed her path like some psycho serial killer. Its amazing how rapists can literally rape a child and be out of prison in 5-7 years. I'd bet my money none of those sleezebags were upstanding men. Good riddance. There was no justice for her and what happened to her, her whole life.
My mom and I always watch your videos together. This one was exceptionally good. You really painted Aileen not as a monster but as a tragic human being, and she was. Her life was so sad and terrible and I agree with you where you said that one violent rape and assault seemed to be her breaking point. This was extremely well done, Dan.
@@LaLoK955 If prostitution is your livelihood, you do. If I went on a job, had to kill in self defense, and wasted hours of my time where I could have done multiple safe jobs, I sure aint leaving empty handed.
She said it herself that she was a thief and the only reason why she was killing those guys was to eliminate a witness so stop trying to stick up for this dumb b****
@@LaLoK955 she stole because she needed the money, I 100% believe her when she said most of them tried to assault her, especially Richard Malory who was a known rapist and child molester
Coming off of his "Another Dirty Room" series, it now begs the question, would you rather stay in a filthy room, or a clean room that once belonged to a serial killer?
Was in Daytona Beach last month and had to make a visit to the Scoot motel. Mike the owner is such a friendly guy and gave us a tour of Aileen’s room! Surreal experience
Lisa L This channel has already “blown up”. Dan has had videos in RUclips trending, someone posts his stuff on Reddit, Dan has been featured in magazines, internet articles, a Ted Talk and in radio interviews. Dan is practically a star already.
Nightmare Theater I'm glad to hear he's doing well, I've been subscribed since he had around 9,000 subscribers and I don't keep up with his sub count but shocked to see he has over 300k subs, he deserves it.
If you think RUclips (Google, really) is bad, wait until the ISPs start fucking over content creators like Dan. Call your Congressional representatives, and tell them to protect net neutrality (Title II).
Is it just me or is this bar the coolest and chillest thing ever? Idk it seems way chiller than a club with thumping music. Give me a guy on an acoustic guitar and bikes on a tree any day
I cant help but feel as if someone or something wanted your car to break down so that you would have to stay at that motel just because the odds of a car being fine until passing a certain town and then being able to coast into an auto dealership for repairs. great video just something interesting to think about
@Germaine Vorkuta I'm sorry but the term 'start being a man' is so dumb, like do you think you're boosting someone's confidence by 100 by saying that? No. You just sound like a dick.
That's definitely when your instincts kick in full throttle. I was in some woods like that in Texas, but the animal in the bushes ended up being a dopey armadillo 😂
I live in FL and I hear the jail where she was at is now abandoned and haunted. I recommend going back there with friends one night just to check it out.
I saw one, twice. Ghost, spectre, poltergeist, not sure which it was, but it took on the form of my teenage daughter. She is on the autism spectrum, and likes to walk around the house with a blanket wrapped around her head and body, it comforts her. Well one night I woke up and saw her standing beside my bed, close enough to touch. (She usually would crawl into bed with me each night.) It was dark so I could just see her silouhette, with the blanket around her. I said, "Hey Cheyenne, what are you doing?" No answer. I just laid there. I told myself "I'm awake, this is really happening" Eventually I just rolled over and drifted back off. A week or so later I saw the same shape, walking across the bedroom. I figured it was my daughter coming into bed with me. So I reached behind me and pulled back the covers. I didn't feel her get into bed, so I got up, went downstairs, and there she was, sound asleep on the couch. So yeah, it was definitely something.
There is no "Justice" in this system. Period. No reason thank God for anything. Your happiness for what the "justice" system did for those men she killed is ridiculous. You do understand that those men were all cheating on their wives or s.o's, they were abusive to her, and were seeking prostitutes, right? Not to mention the notion of what kind of men they were at home. So what exactly are you thanking god for, again?
In my opinion a big big treat to Dan Bells videos are his expertise at ambient sounds and background ambient music and such. A skill other chuckleheads can't seem to grasp. Thanks again for another great video Dan Bell
That tile and light fixture is from the 50s because when my grandmother died in the 90s I redid her house in Greektown and it was the exact same and was built in 56.The footage of the sound in the bathroom is so legit because the last sound he hears before getting up he is startled. His hands holding the camera shake with the sound.
The most pivotal moments in her life happened in that bathroom. If ghosts are real, it makes sense that they haunt the places they had the highest emotions and biggest connection to.
No matter how bad her life was, she murdered people, abused drugs and sold herself constantly lmao. If there is a heaven and hell, she's 100% in hell my dude. Don't pray for monsters.
IHeartGameplay The REAL monsters were the man who raped her with rubbing alcohol & a tire iron & her Grandfather, Grandmother, brother & mother! She NEVER had a chance! I believe that circumstances CAN & DO create evil. I hope she’s able to forgive herself for her wrong doings & the others who wronged her!
If MONSTER is ever released on the *Criterion Collection* this full Dan Bell Documentary needs to be a bonus feature. I mean, c'mon, this is more thorough than anything a third party Hollywood crew could even hope to make as a supplemental featurette...
She had the saddest childhood. Can you imagine? Doesn't excuse her crimes, but what can you expect from a woman who was raised by monsters? Also, I think I would've taken another room at some point. Lol
Not the saddest. But it rates right up there. Cruel and unusual. Everybody reacts differently in the same circumstances. This poor gurl never caught a break. So sad in the 360. No matter how you look at it, she was surrounded by negative self-serving fucks (sorry). She never had a chance.
the banging/clanking sounds in the bathroom were the old pipes. even if someone in another room is using their water/heat, it affects the rest of the building. I live in an older apt building and hear it all the time. it's annoying!
Sean Gallagher- If he were in a old house with radiator heating, I would agree but that is not relevant here, this is florida, it is not that cold out and I doubt he had the heat on, not that they would have that type of heating source anyways The very last noise he heard when he finally got up was clearly the toilet seat being lifted up and dropped...not the pipes of a 1960's motel in florida
yes, same sound I hear, and sounds like it in Dan's video too. sadly, mine was worse at my apartment..almost sounded like Leatherface or someone banging and clanking constantly!
In a matter of 72 hours I have nearly watched everything on your channel. Never have my interests aligned so perfectly with that of a channels. Keep it coming. I love your stuff.
This film should have been shown in cinemas all over the world. Such a great piece of cinematic art. Despite your success, I think you are the most undervalued filmmaker of these days. Your work is such a great inspiration! This is real art...and so is your other work. From the dead mall series, your photo art, the dead motel series up to ADR and everything else you published. You, Quentin Tarantino, Oliver Stone and Stanley Kubrick are my cinematic art heros.
Scary thing is I have that exact tile, tub, and light in my bathroom, except mine are light blue and dark blue. What style is that? Mid century modern?
Got my snacks, in my cozy bed, and a 44 minute Dan Bell video! Great evening ahead for me! Thank you for all the effort you put into filming and editing, your videos are always such a treat to watch.
My second donation and probably not last just to show my appreciation. You're also proof that quality isn't the main factor here on YT and trash tiktoks or shorts here gain more attention and appreciation as people have the attention span of a five year old these days. Keep up the great work as always, Dan!
Feel bad youtube is killing your channel. This was a great video. Sorry your car had to get messed up to make it happen. I love seeing a motel that should be ADR nice and clean. That Motel is well taken care of. I do love the fact the the old stuff was well cleaned instead of replaced. That is part of Americana. Just replacing stuff that you let get dirty is not cool. Sleep tight Dan.
I was born/raised in Miami and have been stationed at various places. To this day I would say that Miami is my favorite place to be in the United States.
I feel like the majority of people probably feel the same way, lmao. For me, it came down to this: Is a beautiful sunset worth meth heads and psychopaths? And the answer is no. Also, fuck hurricanes, y'all.
So as I was re-watching the creepy ghostly clanging around part of the video trying to hear the ladies voice again at 42:55, a bunch of crap banged around and fell in my closet at the same moment. I was laying on the bed. I screamed and ran out of the room. Literally never have heard anything fall in my closet since I’ve lived here. F that noise!
Am I the only person who, when they heard the noises coming from the bathroom, would yell out to her "Come on Aileen"... you know... like the song... Nevermind Ill see myself out.
@@loxen lol great rhetoric, pretending there's cops, judges and lawmakers who don't kill rape and abuse people but get away with it, or get their problems swept under a rug/paid off to be ignored. Fuck you
I have followed this woman for years. We study her religiously in my police science class. Thanks Dan, a nice little treat to come home to tonight after work.
SupaStah01 Are you studying her because she was a female serial killer? Or are you studying, what happened in her past that could have caused this violent behavior?
I always thoroughly enjoy these kinds of videos. You can't find this kind of quality anywhere else. I hope that if one day you blow up and start creating these on a larger platform, you stay true to this style. It's honestly so appreciated!
This is such a great video Dan! I love most of your work but this has got to be up there with the best. I have always felt sorry for Aileen as she just didn't get a break from the day she was born, I'm just surprised she didn't break sooner. Please do more like this documentary!
I like how your presence there, and your interest in who she was, basically turned into a party. Can we really say Aileen Wuornos was a bad person? I don’t think we can. Just another sad, dark story of abuse, neglect and sickness from the good old USA.
I hate people who call Aileen Wuornos a monster. The real monsters was her mom and pervert grand dad they should have both been killed for what they did to both those kids. I always and still do feel sorry for Aileen Wuornos . I'm so glad she wasn't buried in the prison grave yard, her friend took her ashes home with her. Sad when the kindness thing ever done for her was after she died. And that back stabbing girlfriend needs to die a slow painful death! R.I.P. Aileen Wuornos
The Lazy Cooks Kitchen i agree that she had harsh upbringing, but that doesn’t excuse going to kill whoever you want, innocent blood won’t bring back your innocence, innocent blood won’t make you happier, innocent blood won’t rehabilitate you, innocent blood will only make you want more blood, to fuel a monster, she was a monster, a sympathetic monster, but a monster None the less
I agree with you she had a really horrible life. But I don’t think we should sugar coat what she did. A lot of people go through horrible life circumstances but they don’t kill people. But we also can’t deny that her life was awful and so traumatic. She never got a break from the cruelty of all the people in her life. I watched a documentary of her life. I don’t know if it was on RUclips or Netflix but learning about her life was devastating. It doesn’t make what she did right. But it’s nearly impossible to go through all that and not completely lose your mind. I can’t imagine. It’s not surprising she snapped but it also does not forgive the lives she took.
Whoa! That was your best video yet! Very well filmed and edited- and amazing subject! I've seen the movie and always been interested in her story. She had such a horrible life with little to no love or happiness. I hope she is at peace.
That ending is crazy. Definitely paranormal. You should have left a camera in the bathroom. 3am is considered dead hour where spirits are supposedly most active. Great video!
Paranormal or not that would scare the crap out of me- those were some fairly loud, clear noises coming from the bathroom. Sounds like the toilet handle was jiggled, the door was opened a bit and the garbage can was moved. Almost sounded like someone cleaning in there.....
It's kinda interesting, but another theory is maybe someone just has a speaker hidden in the ceiling and plays those sounds around 3 am..... Makes you wonder... The owner knows why people want to stay in the room.
hey Dan, I found your channel relatively recently and have been watching your whole backlog of videos and I have to say they are easily some of the most impressive and captivating content I have seen. The editing is impeccable and interesting, your own personal style is really apparent in everything you create. Your videos are so varied in tone and subject matter, I'm laughing one minute and crying the next. The documentaries are wonderfully and sensitively shot, whoever or whatever you are filming is treated with the utmost respect. You are shining a light on people and problems which have been forgotten and swept under the rug and you can tell that you care very deeply about everything that you choose to shoot. The videos you create truly rival some of the most professional documentaries out there while still capturing that fantastic hand held and real feel and to top it off, you do near enough everything yourself. It's just a hugely impressive feat and I want to thank you for creating many wonderful, terrifying, melancholic, hysterical and profoundly sad videos, they are greatly appreciated and I wish you all the best.
This is one of my faves you have ever done Dan! So eerie. So sad for her. She was definitely off her rocker but I feel for her as a little girl and teenager being so abused. It is no wonder she became what she became. You are a brave man Dan. NO WAY would I stay in that room! And you did it ALONE!!
I have been around real ghosts and I have also attached audio files to work related stuff and this sounds attached. It has the tape recorder tone to the word Abby. Good work though. Very entertaining documentary.
I spent the last 21 years of my life in Daytona Beach before moving to Dallas, TX. It's so nice to see the area again, especially in a Dan Bell video! Thanks as always.
That is seriously scary, dude. 40:53. I take you very seriously, and you don't set stuff up for views. How can you sleep with the lights off? I won't be able to sleep until the sun comes up now.
I swear this is such an underrated and underviewed channel, these videos are always so high quality and interesting, like an actual TV documentary

Dan wasn’t going to go there. Kinda goes without saying.
Flazé Da It seems like with all the attention that Aileen received after the film and media exposure, it should have encouraged laws to be changed.
THANK YOU for sharing the sick background of Richard Mallory. I always believed he was the one who really messed her up. Obviously I don't condone her actions, but she did have a heartbreaking childhood.
Awesome video, Dan!
Not gonna lie, I was so proud of her for fighting back and killing him
She Won Everything
He is the one made Her finally made Her snap. She already had Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from Her horrific Childhood. But He not only triggered that, He gave Her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the current. She was having flashbacks with all those Men & felt like She was with Him again.
@@UnnamedAndUnindicted Me too
@@UnnamedAndUnindicted Yep, she did the world a favor by offing that scumbag.
You put it perfectly.
Such nice people, this video is so fascinating.
EDIT: Aileen is probably the only serial killer I genuinely felt kinda bad for.
venzan Yea and I wouldnt even call her a serial killer for killing rapists.
"Self defense is self defense. I don't care if it's 100 times" - Aileen Wuornos.
She didn’t kill for defense. She killed because of her hatred towards men and also for robbing.
You don’t steal after defense.

Ghosts aren't real
klutzycutie dead already ?

Sean Gallagher- If he were in a old house with radiator heating, I would agree but that is not relevant here, this is florida, it is not that cold out and I doubt he had the heat on, not that they would have that type of heating source anyways
The very last noise he heard when he finally got up was clearly the toilet seat being lifted up and dropped...not the pipes of a 1960's motel in florida

The Lazy Cooks Kitchen I agree
I agree. She didn't have a chance. I don't agree with her killings but the crap done to her split her mind up.
