I was there last year 2023, and went on Sunday and Monday this time around. If I compare this year to last year, the watches overall across all brands were not as great, but the experience on a visitor standpoint was better. You just have to really plan ahead though. I made a new friend there (who's from Germany) on a Monday who met you and your husband the day before, and I got jelly because I also wanted to meet you both 🥲
True. They are insulting their own customers. People who have paid money to travel to the show and buy tickets are by definition serious potential buyers.
@@valebliz That's not Swiss.. that's PATEK. The guy at Vacheron, I know him still after I came back to the US and we hardly talk about watches anymore... you need people with the personality to sell, build relationships, and represent your brand as you wish to do...
It's great that you mention Piaget. Their sales consultants are absolutely amazing. My 18 yr old son went into the Sydney Australia boutique and was treated so generously, showing him the entire range and he tried on their top tier watches. They certainly are focused on the potential customer. It's what we all want as watch enthusiasts !! Thanks for a great video 👍👍
The problem I have with W&W is that year on year it's increasingly geared towards very wealthy customers, and as Jenni said, you can often see it in the booth design. The warmth of the "mid tier" brand, like Nomos and Frederique Constant, stood out for me, otherwise it's a cold museum-like experience. IMO the best experience is actually to be around Geneva that week (the "pirate" event and brands, as the Rolex CEO just called them). The "Time to Watches" event at the HEAD, see the dozens of independents exhibiting at the Beau Rivage, or the "Masters of Horologie" at L'iceBergues. At those events, can handle their watches, talk directly to the brand reps, share your love of watches, make friends and contacts - it's great!
Hi your channel is the only one that has given the pros and cons of visiting watches and wonders all the others I've just gone on about the new releases as a big watch fan this is very helpful because going to watches and wonders from the UK will cost a lot of money and it's good to see what type of experience you can expect great video thanks John.
This is a great episode, Jenni! Thank you for doing what others don’t on their channels and for your gentle, humble and unassuming way. You’re a pleasure and full of information and insight.
Thanks; of all the videos I've seen about the watch show, yours is the first to have mentioned the "particulars" that I was wondering about, such as, for example, ticket prices.
Such a great video. Everyone always gives highlight on the watches but never talk about what to expect for the common folks wanting to visit W&W. Thank you for this great video.
Ehh, not really. The reason she wasn't treated as a VIP is because she didn't request VIP treatment. If she had, she almost certainly would've gotten it given the size of her audience (a YT watch channel with 331k subs is almost certainly enough to get you some sort of media/VIP pass for the event that would've gotten her into the restricted areas).
Last yr the heinously overpriced Ingenieur, now ‘sorry, VIPs only.’ IWC setting a new standard in how not to grow their customer base. Maybe next yr they’ll stand at the entrance and mock anyone not wearing a watch worth more than $10k
Jenni, thanks so much for this "real" point of view of the event. So refreshing to see vs other youtubers who are treated as VIP and only have good things to say about brands. I agree on IWC, they are more focusing on VIP/Media and rich clients than people looking at their entry level and that's the same after you purchase one of their cheaper watch.
Thank you very much for this! Very useful indeed! Of all youtubers you're the only one who went during the public days and that makes a huge difference to feel whether it is worth it or not when you're not a pro. You answered pretty much all my questions! Cheers!
Thank you for your concise, organized and personalized perspective of the WW exhibition. I really felt it when you described the sensory experience in the beginning and how the use of carpets and sound dampening materials, as well as indirect lighting gave me a feel of being there as you described and showed the different booths and hands on experiences. I’ve been influenced by your opinion on several high end watches I bought based on some of the comparisons you have made with other brands. I appreciate your dedication to sharing your knowledge with the community and your delightful accent.
I had considered going to W&W this year but in the end decided against it. I want to thank you for this vlog as it shows me that as a basic punter I probably wouldn't have had the best time
By far the best video on this year's show - thank you! You didn't call out the 1 out of 10 not so super friendly types - you're a much better person than me ...
Thanks for the BEST W&W video, Jenni and Kai! As someone who was considering going there, I might just save my money for another watch instead. Such great intel!
I loved your impression (8:54) of someone saying, "No, this is just for VIPs." Was that Mr. Talking Hands himself, Andrew Morgan, hugging you toward the end (14:30) of the video? How many people did you meet who knew you from watching your videos? Were there any "wonders" there? OK, enough with the questions. Thank you for that informative video. Most of us are not likely ever to attend but thank you and your husband for doing so in our stead.
Haha, thank you! And yes, that was Andrew Morgan - it was so wonderful meeting him! He's such a gentleman! It was incredible how many people came up to me because they knew me from my videos :'-) So my 'wonders' were all of the amazing people I met! Thank you for supporting my channel!
Well done for another excellent video. I think it's good to talk about the general atmosphere, and in particular the visual and audio aspects of the spaces. It's useful for many people with disabilities - or without! A word about physical accessibility for people in wheelchairs, for example, would be the "icing on the cake".
What a fantastic, honest review of the event. 👏🏻 Much more insight than most of the other breathless videos on the event that are rushed out as fast as possible.
This was so incredibly refreshing. I was planning to go this year but couldn't -- so glad to hear an honest and detailed review from someone so knowledgeable yet also down to earth. Thank you, Jenni! Fantastic. Just encourages me to focus on Nomos as my next purchase over IWC just for the inclusivity.
A great presentation. So full of important and interesting information. Especially if you want to see a specific brand and model with no reservation. And I am sure we all look forward to you going again next year.
Thanks, so glad you did this! My wife and I will be traveling around Europe this time next year and I've begun thinking about scheduling Watches & Wonder into the schedule. Your video makes it even more likely that I'll do that now. Cheers Jenni!
Thank you very much Jenni! You really brought W&W to us. As you pointed this not only about watches. It is an amazing immersive experience in the world of horology.
1:50 (Swiss living nearby GVA) Actually, from the airport, it is a 10 minute walk. Follow the sign to the train station, then l'Arena and then continue to Palexpo.
Great vid. I did the guided tour of Rolex, PP, and a few more. I recommend, especially if you’re newer to watches. I can confirm Patek only letting staff into their booth was a bit sus. There were hella people in there! Yes, you have to be extroverted, be bold! I’m shy so it was challenging getting out of my shell. Looking forward to going next year, and for more days. Also, I’m brushing up on my French.
Thank you! This is one of the best videos you have ever made! I was thinking about going next year, now after watching your video I can plan my trip to somewhere 😂
As someone with a friend into watches who lives within train distance of Switzerland and might plan a visit in the future, this was a useful guide. I appreciate the no special treatment insight. Though not doing a video looking at each of the Nomos special edition Tangentes and demonstrating the correct pronunciation in German for all of them feels like a missed opportunity
I too am a lowly commoner, but I was wearing my Chopard Alpine Eagle Cadence and visited the Zurich Chopard boutique the week prior, and they gave me their number and said to reach out if I wanted a private touch and feel session during W&W...which I did and got! I also just found an employee in the Vacheron Constantin booth and just started talking watches with him, and recommended I check back in a few hours, which I did, and got a private session! So there are ways around it. Also, not every brand did this, but at the info desks you can sign up for group touch and feel sessions and I managed to schedule that with Zenith and H. Moser. I missed my session with Parmigiani Fleurier bc I found Andrew Morgan and we talked for quite a while. Tried on his friend's 5811 too :O
Patek and Rolex are two brands I had gotten out of my sight. Is anti customer. Would not buy no matter how cheap or expensive, available or not available. And would advocate this to my peers.
Very nice video. I would only add that being in Geneva, the Patek Phillipe Museum is not to be missed. I was there last year and thought it was exceptional.
W&W is a bucket list item. I share a love of watches with two old and dear friends. Attending would be epic. Your vid just put wind in my sails to make it happen. Thank you. Great intel!!
Thanks for this great report Jenni! What a great idea experiencing the fair from a regular visitor perspective and sharing this experience on your channel! 🙏 This was far more interesting than all other press reports you see elsewhere. Thanks again!
Thank you for the honesty. These were similar complaints with Basel. Disappointed with IWC as their hands on showrooms have gotten better but alienating customers is surprising.
Jenni, this was the best video of Watches & Wonders. Been planning to visit once and your information was more interesting and helpful than the new watch videos…which I liked too
This year´s experience was much better than last year´s; much more interaction with the brands was possible. I participated in 3 „touch-and-feel“-sessions - with Chopard, Moser and Parmigiani. If you want to handle the pieces of Patek Philippe, you can go to the salon in the city center of Geneva where you would also be able to see the „Rare Handcrafts“.
Had the opportunity to meet Jenni and Kai there (and even made a cameo appearance 😅 in the vid). They are even more amazing in person than behind the camera. It was a pleasure meeting you two and hope to see you next year and chat about our recent watch purchases. Also agree on your commentary about the show. My favorite part (1st year also) was the smaller brands and the touch and feel sessions. We had private showings with Zenith, Vacheron, Tag, and Cartier all of which were great. Zenith and Vacheron especially had really extraordinary experiences and we tried on a bunch of novelties and current catalog watches. Was great to see, touch and try on the limited edition Tangente 38s, solely because of this (and the cards the NOMOS team was gracious to give me), I am actively looking to get two for my wife and I. Also got to try on a Ressence type 1 which I probably would have never been able to do (it’s awesome and now on the “list”). A lot of the other brands (Rolex, Tudor, Chopard, Patek, JLC) left much to be desired as the “behind the glass” experience was only marginally better than just viewing the watches online.
Thank you ❤ it was so lovely to meet you and your friend!! Hope to see you guys next year 🙌🏻 I'll probably be there for more than just a day so fingers crossed ;-D
Hi Jenni: well done travelogue. Question: I know Palexpo is near the airport. Is it better to stay in Geneva for the city life or closer to the airport for ease of attending the show. Any recommendations? Thank you
"Bigger the booth or brand the less they cared" Best comment yet from anyone. This echos shoppers experience going into high end watch stores in the U.S. You go in wearing a Seiko one is almost ignored. Go in next day with Panerai or Rolex they roll out the red carpet. Not a great way to get the next generation into watches.
Jenni, it seems you are really able to request the access on press days. It will be much more comfortable for you to connect with brands and colleagues at that moment. And you really deserve it.
In the US I have tried to purchase Patek Philippe at two AD's in two different cities, and my experience echoes Jenni's thoughts about Patek at Watches & Wonders -- "it is lame" for sure! After all, the purpose of exhibiting is to reach new customers, not to turn them off!
Almost nobody talks about the smaller brands and for me, that's where the fun surprises lie for me. Rolex and co are gonna be everywhere and I want to see new stuff from brands that don't get as much airtime.
The best WW video on youtube so far. Really. CongratulationsJenni! One quick question: apart from the standard snobs from Patek, Rolex etc… can you actually buy the other watches there? Thank you
Great video. Super idea to go in as a regular visitor and give that perspective! Very disappointed that the big brands treat an open day like a VIP day, so the people who would love to see these watches and see what the fuss is about and if one day one is in their future... are put off! Why else would you come to a show if not to see the brands you only get to hear about. Puts me off them. Anyway thanks for the tips!
Overall, it's definitely a great experience. But when I think about the entrance fees, and last but not least the travel and accommodation costs, then I think about whether there is any added value in an active presence compared to a passive one in the form of video contributions. The total costs can easily make up a good portion of a new, beautiful watch.
I like how W&W appears to be noticeably more laid back and casual than Baselworld, which had more of a formal/business casual atmosphere based on attire. Patek, Rolex, and Richemont started it so you may have thought that it would be just as formal. But, it seems like they learned from Baselworld and made it more geared towards the public (?). Not sure on that, as Baselworld was both B2B and open to the public, too.
Nice to meet you there., Great job!. I enjoy the event too and I had the same oppinion about VIP areas. However, provided that normally this event was not open to public there is no need to complain
i went last year and it was definitely much more crowded and the lines were quite long. it's good to see that this year looks more comfortable with less people.
In Indonesia's new capital city,, there are plans for a monthly underwater dive watch show bigger than 4 olympic swimming pools. You will be given special digitallt enabled scuba gear to browse and you will also get to swim with Indonesian marine life and enjoy the floating bar.
Great objective and candid feedback from Jenni. Let’s hope the non-consumer centric brands listen to your comments and be more open on the OPEN days. I don’t aspire to be a so-called VIP for brands like PP who only care about the super rich and well connected 👎🏻
While price will always play a role in purchasing decisions, customer service or a brand's culture is definitely a strong factor for me. Too many options out there to have to deal with those that are pretentious, etc.
Hey Jenni! You can actually walk directly from the airport, you probably unfortunately took the side from the airport exit which seems to be the closer side, but this puts you on the wrong side of the highway! Its only a 400m walk.
The whole concept of VIPs is a joke. Every person or potential customer is a very important person. This reminds me of the tale of King Thrushbeard! Great video Jennie!
Patek, we could actually walk in even though the front desk outside told us the same thing. You can walk in and film the showcases, just not film the booth because of privacy for clients. We walked in anyway and asked the staff inside and they let us in 😅
This is my favourite video of yours. I went on the press-day and still didn't like how you could see that the event was set up for 1st and 2nd class citizens. As such i didnt bother eating the food (which was free on those days) or booking any of the press meetings with brands. I just wanted to look at some nice watches, talk to cool people, and go drink wine in the city. Pretty underwhelmed tbh. I'd maybe go again... but with very curbed expectations.
Have you been to watches&wonders before? Do you plan on going next year? Let me know what you think about the event ⬇
Thank you, going there. So I don't need to.
I enjoy your recount-video.

Patek not letting the public have access to anything about the Patek experience is the most Patek thing I’ve ever heard.

A great original video on Watches and Wonders. Love the b roll. Original b roll is better than press photos and a studio video.
Overall, it's definitely a great experience. But when I think about the entrance fees, and last but not least the travel and accommodation costs, then I think about whether there is any added value in an active presence compared to a passive one in the form of video contributions. The total costs can easily make up a good portion of a new, beautiful watch.
Excellent, very informative on the reality of visiting watches and wonders and others like it. 👍
This is a great video, I’ll have to rewatch this next spring!
There were interesting exhibits at the show. Cartier and Chopard had nice watches on display.
Got a first like for Jeni!
FOURTH HAHA
Loved the video! Very real and constructive! Good reporting! Short question though: Was Grand Seiko present?
Thank you Jenni really helpful. I'm planning to attend next year's conference. Super excited :D
i went last year and it was definitely much more crowded and the lines were quite long. it's good to see that this year looks more comfortable with less people.
Economic reality is setting in even for the wealthy. Not sure how this grossly over-priced watch market will survive in the next several years.
Too many options out there to have to deal with those that are pretentious, etc.
seeing you guys and Andrew meet and hug made me smile:))
Hey Jenni! You can actually walk directly from the airport, you probably unfortunately took the side from the airport exit which seems to be the closer side, but this puts you on the wrong side of the highway! Its only a 400m walk.
V cool overview, never seen it done like this before! 😃
Awesome review done Jennie! For both watch and non-watch lovers who are planning to go to W&W one day!
The way you say 'Rolex' makes ur girl ... excited 🤷♀️❤️
The whole concept of VIPs is a joke. Every person or potential customer is a very important person. This reminds me of the tale of King Thrushbeard! Great video Jennie!
100% agree that the best part is the smaller brands, including even the Lab area with new technologies.
Thanks Jenni best video I've seen on the the watch n wonders experience 😊
Patek, we could actually walk in even though the front desk outside told us the same thing. You can walk in and film the showcases, just not film the booth because of privacy for clients.
We walked in anyway and asked the staff inside and they let us in 😅
Uhmmm can we talk about Jenni's NAILS!??!
Thanks @BrittPearceWatches now I can only focus on those 😂
Great video! I will look into going next year, now 🙂
I am so proud of you Jenni :) ❤
You and your husband faces trying the Piaget was so cute!
