Hi Steve, after watching this one.... I made a paste with powdered paints (to be mixed with water to make the water paints for children). It's nicer than when I was using the powdered paints like mica powder. I'm really pleased with the new pigments I'm able to get this way. Also, by using this method I'm not getting any gritty grains in my resin!!! Thanks so much.📽🎥🎶🎶🎶💋💖
Absolutely love your videos. I have spent so many hours enjoying your brilliant mind. What blows me away is that it took me this long to find a video where I finally get to see the face behind the voice! You are fantastic and very talented. Thank you for sharing your passion with the world. Much love to you 🤗
As some others have said, the one you said was green looks like an orange/brown colour when you demolded it. At 3:23 I can see the green on the plastic & tools but the colour in the pot is a dark red/brown. Bit confusing. Looks like a good idea for some of the other colours though. Especially white!
Hi Steve, like the video. I have a question. Is it possible to use the titanium dioxide as a powder in epoxy resin? Like you would use a mica powder for instance. And, have you ever tried making pigments from natural materials? Cruhed charcoal for instance. I bet you can get a lot of different kinds of gray and black with that. Or dried seeds of fruit, mix it in the blender or something and add it as coloring. Or dried fruits.. blueberries, strawberries, plumb.. I'm thinking about trying that myself too. haha But I was just wondering if you did anything like it before?
I suspected that titanium white would work well, but haven't gotten around to casting lately. I'm glad you confirmed this! I want to try charcoal powder to get a nice black too.
Steve, this is amazing, and THANK YOU so, so much for sharing this with us! 😊❤ I have been appalled at the general cost of pigment pastes! This definitely what I'll be doing! 👍
I’ve used acrylic paint to color my resin. I usually add it directly to the A/B mixed resin. Sometimes I add to much paint and the resin doesn’t bloom or even (EGADS) doesn’t set. I’m going to try using acrylic and only part A to make the pigment dye. Hope it works. I’m love your videos and I’ve used several of your projects. Watching from Valdosta Georgia, USA.
Thank you Steve once again for the wonderful tip. I will definitely look into powder food coloring. I currently use chalk as my opaque coloring. Unfortunately my 3yr old found out about the huge box of chalk and confiscated the best colors lol. This will help me keep the peace.
great one, Steve! I plan on doing just this sort of thing with my micas and raw pigments I've collected. Planning to make pigment pastes. Who can beat customized color at bargain basement prices? I happen to have some titanium dioxide to use here as well as all other sorts of goodies to try. I also want to try some of that Wite Out correction liquid as an experiment too. And there are folks on RUclips who have done experiments with ketchup, mustard, koolaid powder, and tons of other things. Can't wait to do more playing on my own!
Wow Steve this experiment went really well, I honestly did not know that food coloring came in powder form!! Also I was wondering where to get the white powder you use for the white?
Your green came out as a burnt orange on my screen... The rest of them are just beautiful. I've been experimenting with liquid food coloring in my resin and found that the 2 or 3 drops added doesn't seem to effect it. It Cured out just the same as with any other liquid colors I've used. Just thought I would pass that along.
Steve, have you left any pigmented resin items on the window sill to test color fastness in the sun? Thank you for doing this. Is there any difference between liquid and powder food coloring?
There's a massive difference between powdered and liquid food colouring. Liquid food colouring is water-based and resin and water should never be used together, as the water will stop the resin from curing properly, leaving you with a sticky mess. xx
Hello there Steve! I just found you on RUclips and I have watched soooo many videos! Thank you for your time and effort! I think I saw this question, but how does this effect the measurement of 1to1? Do I add a bit more hardener?
Well a first for me about the colour in powder form I have food colouring paste will I be able to use that as well You green looks like a tan colour and the other orange but I do like the white
Steve, do you use the powdered food coloring for the black too? The biggest jar of black I can find is 3 grams. That's not going to make much resin paste.
Have you tried mixing the powdered coloring in a bit of high percentage alcohol (91% is good, 99% is ideal but hard to get these days) to create either an alcohol ink or just to turn it into the paste instead? I'm fairly certain that it shouldn't hurt the resin since you can use alcohol ink in resin. I think you'd need completely airtight containers or dropper bottles if you use the alcohol though, since it would evaporate otherwise, but it might be easier than your method and you could always add more alcohol if needed as long as the color stays good. Experiment if you haven't, please? I'm curious. 😅
Hi Steve I have been doing resin for some time but I can't seam to get it right with butting flowers in the moulds ( like pots ) . Do you have any ideas to help me please barbie
Hi Steve. A few years ago I bought a tie dye kit which I never used. Can I use the powder to color my resin? I'm still a newbie at this. Thanks for the feedback.
Does it make a difference to use A or B resin ? Because in this video you used resin A and in the video you made colored cement and also made white you used Part B?
I just found out I'm alergerct to resin, n my heart is broken. I ABASULTY luv to work with it. Can u recommend a resin that won't break me out.? Or I can use?
OK - I have FINALLY ordered resin! I am going to try some of your projects - i.e. the dome and the nail foil on cabochons for wire wrapping. This is a great idea. I already have powdered food coloring, so this will work well for me. You are so talented! By the way, have you used your pressure pot yet?
A very good idea! Steve, I know that the colors might be somewhat limited on this, but have you tried the powder from geleton or "Jello"? I wonder........ Cheers, Paige C.
This is awesome Steve But after you make the colors then when or how much of the B resin do you put into it? Or are you using part A only? I'm a bit confused 🤔
Pretty sure Steve only used part A to make the colours. Then puts it on a pot. When he needs the colour, he makes up the resin as usual, so part A and part B, then adds a lil of the colour from the pot to the mixed A&B. Does that make sense? 😊
Wait a minute though, if you’re using uncured Resin aren’t you going to possibly throw off the balance of your resin curing? Why not use something else to add the pigment to?
Steve, I love your videos! I learn so much ! I just want to make sure I understand what you’re saying. When using the powdered food coloring you use epoxy resin part A and when using the colored cement, you use epoxy resin part B? Is this right? I just want to make it the right way! Once again thank you!
Also, did you use part a to make the titanium white? Because in another video you made you used part B to make it! Does it make a difference? I’m not mixing anything till I hear back! lol I don’t want any mishaps! I’m so sloppy!
This is a really interesting idea 😀. Is there an alternative to using part A of the resin? I use quite a lot of ready made pigments and just thinking that if I were to use part A of my resin to make my own custom colours it will affect how much I have left to pour with. I suppose just making up a couple of colours in small quantities would not make much difference but larger quantities would. Also, does the part A resin for the mixing have to be the same brand as the resin used for pouring? I have some resin I bought last year's and don't like it, so I could use that. It is a different brand to my main resin, so there might be a reaction maybe?
I’m new to resin art and I saw a video that used alcohol in their pigments. It melts the powder and it works amazing when you add the resin. Have you ever tried that?

I think it was supposed to have a different base to make it green, as we could see that whatever he was cleaning with turned it green and the bag was labeled as green. Also, he's colorblind and that is why he didn't notice that it wasn't green.
I have used old eyeshadow as well as some from the dollar store in my resin!
Did you hear that? That was the sound of my tiny mind being blown away!!! Thanks so much for sharing x
I thought I smelled rubber burnin.
