UPDATE: Since writing this, Pulisic has won his first player of the season award from Opta as one of Serie A's best XI (picked as the best right wing in the league). That was the requirement I set to give him a 9 on the season, and I've updated accordingly. UPDATE #2: Since writing this, Busio and Tessman have led Venezia back to the top flight. As I indicated, this means I rate the a '9' on the season, tying them with Pulisic and Hurzeler for the best performances by Americans. We ended up finishing 20th among nations of the world in terms of minutes earned in the big 5 of Europe. That compares with 18th in the 2006/2007 season. However, back then the European leagues were less diverse, so the 20th place finish was actually more minutes than the 06/07 season. So yes, this was the greatest USMNT abroad season of all time and finally, after all the years of hype, the players are finally starting to live up to some of the early promise and doing the things that we need US players to do in Europe if we are going to take it up to the next level. The thing I'm really looking for is whether Venezia wins promotion back to Serie A. The reason that's so important is that Tessman and Busio have actually blossomed into real leaders and stars on that team and bringing a team to promotion back to a top 5 league would be one of the biggest accomplishments by American players in a very long time. If they play into the Serie A, they earn 9's on the season. Otherwise, give them a 6. Turner: 2 Reyna: 1 Richards: 7 Trusty: 3 Jedi: 8 (He's playing his way into consideration as one of the best FB's in the EPL.) Ream: 4 Adams: 4 Pulisic: 9 (I'd go to 9 if he wins a player of the year award.) Musah: 4 McKinney: 6 Weah: 5 B. Aaronson: 3 Brooks: 1 Matarazzo: 8 Scally: 5 Pefok: 3 Paredes: 5 Maloney: 8 Hürzeler: 9 (Breakout coach of the year, possibly not just for the USA, but in Europe.) LDT: 3 Cardosa: 8 (Breakout USMNT player of the year.) Balogun: 5 Dest: 6 Tillman: 7 (Great year, but lower league) Pepi: 3 Booth: 3 P. Aaronson: 5 Sargent: 7 (This would be a 9 but he's starting to earn injury prone as a label.) Wright: 8 (Sargent is maybe the better player, but Wright has a better year.) Dike: 1 Horvath: 2 CCV: 4 Busio: 9 Tessman: 9
I want Timothy Weah to stay in Serie A & play for a team like idk Fiorentina or something similar, I think Italy is perfect for him but definitely needs to play consistently as a winger and be done with that wingback role
MOLTO OBRIGADO! Thanx Tac for this year of insight comment and analysis. For an US ex-pat living in Poland for the last decade plus , You have kept me linked up the info I need to be up to date with the Yanks playing in my time zone! CHEERS! ⚽⚽⚽🏆🥇
I think Musah deserves at least a 6 out of 10. He honestly exceeded my expectations in terms of playing time. I thought that he would struggle to get any time at all given his competition at Milan. He was also asked to play several different positions that didn’t really suit his skill base, but he performed admirably. He had a decent season for a 21 year old.
To be fair the 1 time he really went out of his comfort zone and played RB that was probably the worst performance I've ever seen in a professional game. He definitely was on track for a 6 or 7 out of 10 season but after that 1 bad game and being benched forever afterward he just lost all of his confidence for the rest of the year. He didn't play bad at the end but he never even tried to dribble by anybody and just passed back every time he touched the ball.
@@jaegybomb I kind of think his attributes fit the RB position well. Physical, decent defensively, good dribbler, good crosser. Surprised he played that horrendously there
@@symptomofsoulssometimes players have the aspects you’d expect to atleast be a good emergency player for that position and they just can’t do it because of mental reasons or familiarity of position. The stats on Turner are interesting, and I think expose some further mismanagement at Forest: Turner - 17 Apps, 84 Shots Against (4.94 SA per game), 28 Goals Against (1.65 GA per game), 66.7% Save Percentage Sels - 16 Apps, 63 Shots Against (3.94 SA per game), 25 Goals Against (1.56 GA per game), 60.3% Save Percentage Vlachodimos - 5 Apps, 22 Shots Against (4.40 SA per game), 12 Goals Against 2.40 GA per game), 45.5% Save Percentage I really think this shows that Turner was the better GK among all 3, and even under circumstances where he was facing more shots against per game. Given their Save Percentage differences, If Turner would have faced the same SA per game as Sels, his GA per game would have been 1.43 versus Sels' 1.54 GA). Maybe you could argue that Sels was offering something else such as defensive communication/organization that helped Forest limit shots against versus when Turner was in, but I think that would be a stretch to argue. It's more likely that the performance from the field players improved during the second half of the season versus when Turner was initially the starter.
Hey Tac, and Dustin, just want to say thank you for your work and dedication doing the weekend re-caps this season. Started following the channel since dang near the beginning, and appreciate what yall do!
A little harsh for Ream. He's doing great for his age; he's just nearing the end of his career. I think a 4 is fair. Also, I think Jedi is chronically underrated. He's not only a solid EPL starter at his position, but by the metrics, is a top EPL player for his position which is less than can be said for the rest of our squad. He doesn't rack up the goal-contribution numbers like our forwards/midfielders, but if you look at the numbers for his position, he is excelling. I give him an 8.5-9 for the season. He could potentially be sold to one of the big 6. I'd hate to see that happen, but he's that good. No player other than Pulisic has their position in our squad locked down like Jedi. He will end up being one of our all-time most capped players. I absolutely love that he chose to play for us; he's a giant on our team.
Agree with Ream. Was still a team captain while he was playing, and overall played well. Marco has just decided it’s time to transition to a younger CB in Bassey who isn’t clearly an improvement from Ream so far.
The only upside for Gio is that he has had a looong time to recover from injury and strengthen himself. I hope that next year he can find somewhere to actually play and improve his game.
Feel like we have a lot of players that could be better but never the less glad USMNT is growing in talent and thank you so much filipo for all the time you took for these videos and hope we can grow from here although CONCACAF doesn’t help the growth. You #1🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

Hey Tac been watching for a few years and really enjoyed your channel. It might be cool to look back through your usmnt abroad series and track the player ratings in a spreadsheet week to week. Could give some stats that show player performance progression or if a player is truly struggling against big teams.
For the CBs in the EPL, I agree with your ratings 100%, but do have a couple comments: On Ream, I could see him trying to stay in Europe through 2026 to help his odds of a WC 2026 spot. I think the odds are against him at his age, but maybe he could move back to a Championship level team that would be expected to perform near the top of that table. On Trusty, I think it's extremely hard to rate him based on Sheffield's performances. Anyone who has played as a defender on a very bad team knows this pain. When your midfield is entirely outmatched every single game, it's almost impossible to both generate possession and scoring chances, as well as contain the onslaught from the opponent. I'd venture to say you could take an average EPL CB and just swap that person with either of Sheffield's normal CB starters, and they'd probably give up right around the same number of goals. Similarly, you could put a guy like Haaland on the team as their striker and I bet he wouldn't eclipse 12 goals (they had joint top scorers this year, both at 6 goals) because he'd have almost no service coming from his teammates.
I agree. I think people are a bit harsh on Trusty because of how bad Sheffield did as a whole. But the season before he was arguably the best CB in the efl for Birmingham City. I'd be curious how he would look on a better epl team.
Nah I think he's better than the Scottish league. He might as well go to the championship. I think he could play for a low to mid table Bundesliga, Serie A, or La Liga team or a top table eredivisie team.

Assume it's fake...more like assume the affair happened.

Berhalter needs to go, I hope so too
@@choco-une I mean, can you at least admit at this point that you aren't a fan of the USMNT?
I had to endure the German clown for all those years, but I never once hoped we'd lose.
@@celebrim1 he got relegated in Norway, couldn’t win in the MLS. He needs to go
@@choco-une He was not relegated in Norway. The club he was hired by was fan owned and the fans are notoriously fickle and self-destructive. The club is one of the biggest in Scandanavia, but the fans consistently self-destruct. The one year they won a championship, the tried to fire the coach mid-year. The reason for the firing was exactly the same one they gave Berhalter "lack of attacking creativity". It required a Hoosiers style intervention to save the coach to prevent the fans from ruining their one good season.
He was brilliant in MLS, taking a team that was in the bottom three in salary some years deep into the playoffs on multiple occasions and very nearly winning the MLS cup.
His been largely brilliant as the USMNT manager.
glad you mentioned how Puli didnt' preform well against tougher opposition and in must win games. Puli fans never say anything bad about him but hype him up scoring against minnows.
He scored against Newcastle to keep ac milan in europe
