- Nervous passengers boarded an Air France flight in Rio late on Monday night-- the first to leave after AF 447 disappeared over the Atlantic. It was a lucky escape for some, who had changed their tickets at the last minute. Raw images.
Her travel agent saved her money *AND* her life!
Happy to know some people missed the doomed flight. I crossed the North Atlantic by plane from the US to Europe in 2009 just a few days after this harrowing tragedy happened, and I felt somewhat bad.
All of this is profound in so far as when the jig is up it really is, thus you can be as careful or thoughtful as you want all your life, but being at the wrong time / wrong place will erase ALL of that in an instant.
Life and Happiness are so fleeting, enjoy it while you can as none of us will ever know how long we still got !!

Life is so fragile. Being aware of this instances in the world taught me to enjoy life and do what makes you happy. By the way what airline did you flown at the time? And the destination? AV geek here
Fate is a curious thing. I have heard previously of people who initially cursed missing their flight because they slept in, their car wouldn’t start, they were stuck in traffic, etc. - only to end up thanking their misfortune when the planes they were supposed to be on went down.

In fact I was expecting that the video was posted to report that a celebrity was among those who escaped the tragic fate.. On watching the video I realized that person in thumbnail is actually a female.

I don't believe the story that was given the public was the truth. It's a story which was told to prevent lawsuits being even worse. No pilot with thousands of flight hours would be ignorant enough to hold the stick back.
Well the pilot was on break the the other 2 less experienced pilots were in control

It’s the truth, they panicked. And it happened again with the air Asia a320 exactly the same
Human beings make all sorts of mistakes. The alarm that was going off on Apollo 11 was a direct result of a mistake by Aldrin. Luckily there was no harm done. But it could have easily resulted in aborting the landing had not a young engineer, the ONLY one there who knew what the alarm meant, hadn't been right there in mission control.
Pierre Cedric Bonin held the stick back almost all the time, because he was so stressed and terrified by the situation he had to cope with. In addition, he had not been so trained to manual piloting compared to old, experimented and former pilots, so that he probably couldn't have had the same reflexes as the latter. Even if other young pilots possibly could have reacted well in the same situation.
