Now I’m not just talking about the most powerful or evil.
Here we’re looking at anyone who worked against Harry throughout the series. Things like how they affected the overall plot, how they affected Harry specifically, and just how strong they were as characters are all fair game here.

She was discovered as an unregistered animagi at the end of the fourth book, and Hermione made her stop writing for a whole year or risk being revealed . All the articles written about Harry were from other people working for the daily prophet.

You know there's this thing in writing where sometimes people will hate the annoying character more than the villain because the evil actions the villain dose is fake but their announce with the character is real. And Umbrage is a great example of people hating her more than the villain Voldemort himself.

Barty Crouch Jr is such an interesting character, reminds me of Snape in a way (double agent for Voldemort instead of double agent for Dumbledore.) Fooling Dumbledore for an entire year, while disguised as his old friend (not just some random wizard he doesn't know), is something I don't think anyone else could have done.

Though Fred's death comes a close second, especially reading how his death affected George :( . And Tonks' and Remus' deaths are so sad too, after a life of isolation and struggle, he finally found his home in his little family, and now poor Teddy has to grow up without his parents. I know this is to mirror Harry's life but it just sucks. I get way to emotionally invested lol.

Goblins in the Harry Potter Universe are irrelevant to the good vs evil trend, because technically the sword did originally belong to the goblins before Gryffindor made it his, and most wizards and witches do not understand that the way goblins do business with their craft is rental business, and they thought that goblin-made stuff were going to be theirs when they buy those kinds of items, so technically it was Gryffindor who paid for the temporary weapon and never returned it and instead enchant it to only present itself to either himself or to those in his Hogwarts house who prove themselves worthy of the weapon itself. We can't really blame Griphook for trying to get the sword back for his people.

And I am not afraid of saying his name. Snape is my #2 because he starts out as a villainous character and evolves into a more heroic character at the end in Deathly Hallows when we read/see his true motives during the memory sequence. Umbridge takes my #3 because I hate her as well, but I understand that she impacts Harry's journey in the last 3 books.

Marge Dursley didn't really do anything that would be considered as truly evil, both she and Narcissa Black Malfoy are equally the least evil out of the lot; the most mean things she ever does to Harry is making belittling comments about Harry Potter's parents and comparing him as to being no more than being as any lesser than a dog to the eyes of society and she was Half-Drunk when she said those things in both versions of Harry Potter year 3.

Damn. I forget how in-depth and problematic the villain/antagonist lore is in the Harry Potter books.
    Makes sense now.
You know I find it really interesting that nobody ever considers Albus Dumbledore as a villain or antagonist when I always have. It would take an essay to explain why but let me just say that ‘mentor’ isn’t the word I’d use to refer to the way he treats Harry Potter. I know I’m not the only one that thinks of him this way, but I am of an extreme minority it seems. But then again - Snape is also thought of and even revered as a hero in the end.
Which I definitely don’t agree with either.
Again - it makes total sense now.
Dumbledore isn’t on this list but he is my #1 ranking villain of Harry Potter because I hate groomers.
Especially ones referred to as heroes because saving the world apparently matters more than saving the life of your son figure.

    • @Dr.MonicaNaik

U have ur opinion which is absolutely fine ... But Dumbledore wasn't a Villian . Just consider few points
      1. Dumbledore Loved Harry that's the reason he tries everything he can in OoTP & HBP to get to know & fight the horcruxes , so that Harry can live . Unfortunately he didn't knew the power it possess and got cursed by the ring .
      2. I know morally this is wrong ... But just put it this way . There is boy on one side & whole Wizarding world with millions probably on other side . Who do u put at risk !???
We know the boy doesn't deserve it 😔 tooo but so does so many other kids & babies of the world. In order to save a whole world , he had to do it ( Mind you this was only upto GoF )
      3. Because at the end of GoF , Dumbledore knew Harry could actually survive this even after killing Voldermort , when Harry told his blood was used in bringing Voldermort back
      4. This obviously can't be explained to a 14 yr old kid , not to mention the amount of trauma Harry deals with in his day to day life.
Moreover , Harry had to believe he was actually dying to kill Soul of Voldy inside him . That's why Dumbledore doesn't even reveal this even when Snape asked... Did he raise him as a pig for slaughter!?
Dumbledore was a great wizard and being great often comes with prizes . Despite his issues... He always cared for Hogwarts, his students , his colleagues & his world .
He might not be Great guy ( fyi for me he is good person) for all this , but he definitely is a good guy with few Gray characteristics!
And also I agree on Snape part . I never liked him nor considered him Hero !

    • @Girl4Music
      @Girl4Music Месяц назад +1

@@Dr.MonicaNaikI know the lore is completely different but consider another show about a Chosen One protagonist in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. When the only way possible to save the world from total destruction and annihilation was to kill her sister, she absolutely refused. Said sorry to all her loved ones but couldn’t go through with killing her to save them all. To save the world.
That’s a hero. A selfish hero but a hero nonetheless because she puts her family first. Harry wasn’t family to Dumbledore but he was like a son or grandson figure to him.
He did groom him as a pig for the slaughter all the while knowing who Harry was, and to me, that’s a really villainous thing to do. Maybe morally grey is the better way to put it on the whole looking at it from a bigger perspective but from the small perspective of a man and his potentially adopted son… yeah.
I mean consider Sirius Black in comparison. He was willing to still be there for Harry even though his own life was endangered as a wanted criminal for the murder of Peter Pettigrew. He still risked himself to keep Harry protected even against the odds.

@@Girl4Music If saving a sister against whole world which basically means a great bunch of people probably got killed ( I really hope they didn't) can be considered as Selfish hero ( which u stated ) ...
Why can't saving a whole world at cost of a boy (mind you , harry would eventually get back to life & Dumbledore knew it ) can't be Heroic !??
And also it wasn't even for his selfish reasons. Dumbledore didn't gain anything from this , infact he died trying to end it .
That's pretty much HEROIC if you ask me .
Sirius & Dumbledore are complete conditions.
Sirius was already miserable for 12 yrs with no hope , losing everyone he loved , everything he had ! He pretty gave up on his life in Azkaban. I think his only source of light /love was Harry . So when he found out his life was at stake ... He did everything to save only thing worthy left in his life .
Whereas Dumbledore had whole school with students, staff & even Minister of magic often relied on Dumbledore. Everyone pretty much believed in him . Not to mention Dumbledore was the only wizard Voldermort ever feared according to everyone. These things actually give a lot more pressure on oneself than we can imagine. Living upto this & still protecting & fighting against evil . That's lot to take in ! So he had to do what he did .
I am not saying He is like Purest man or something but he definitely was a HERO with few Grey characterizations !

Dumbledore is not a villain. He's a man trapped in a very difficult situation and forced to make difficult choices. In the end, he made choices that assured both Harry's survival as well as the saving of the world. And don't forget that Harry would have been Voldemort's number 1 target anyway, because of the prophecy. Harry would never have a peaceful life as long as Voldemort was around, and this is not Dumbledore's fault. "Neither can live, while the other survives."
