Just to clarify for anyone wondering: there is no color correction or filtering applied to this video. That’s all costumes and makeup. So many audible gasps in the theater when the lights came up. This performance was a joy to see live.
It was a joy to see it live! When the lights came up, we couldn't believe what we were seeing!
I was in it and it was a pain to get the makeup on
It took me a while to realize this. Absolutely incredible!
YoYo Kid Hey which Section are you in?
@@Cursetinc the pirate section on the right fourth row third person
In the auditorium, the opening was met with gasps (folks couldn't figure out why a black and white image was on stage) and the closing was met with sniffles of emotion. I will never forget this experience.
This is one of the most beautiful performances I've seen. To do costumes and full make up in gray scale shows their dedication to the story they wanted to tell. And they executed it perfectly.
I agree Tom! This was definitely my favorite performance as well, even though I did not attend the convention last year.
As much as westminster's performance was flashy, I think this performance will stand the test of time in a whole different way. Beautiful & moving
Idk, if you were to compare what's more flashy I still think this is more flashy just because of the use of props and so.
It’s kind of appropriate that they only won silver🥈 tho. Gold 🥇 doesn’t work in B&W. 😀
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm, did anyone else get the joy of hearing and not believing their ears that the sound of this video captured a SCREAMING OVERTONE at the end of the Chaplin Medley!?!? Holy Cow! That's something that we rarely get when viewing a video. Thank you!
Overtones really all over the tag. "All in black and whiiiiiiite...." has a screamer around 4:20-4:26.
Absolutely phenomenal set. If it was any other year, it would have won hands down.
*If Westminster didn't launch a man to the moon.*
The Barbershop Harmony Society agreed to upload the entire set because there was a single story line that ran throughout the performance and continuity was critical to appreciating the narrative.
Around the time of the lockdown, RUclips started putting these barber shop Videos in my feed. Before then, I had no idea that these type of performances existed. I’ve enjoyed many of the ones I’ve seen but I thought that this one was a true piece of art.
Wow!! I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying!
This was absolutely incredible. The commitment to story telling from every man on stage brought tears to my eyes.
A class act, and truly heartfelt performance. There are so many good groups out there, but this one has been tops in my book for years. They consistently elevate our beloved artform year after year.
Well done all!! Regardless of the color of medal, you're still Champs to many of us!
It’s amazing to think that a few years ago me and my fellow theatre nerds brought Chaplin the Musical to the US and to see this makes it all worth it!
I love the Ambassadors of Harmony so much, and this just strengthened that.
I didn't know that was even possible.
This performance got my eyes tripping out man, I was trying to figure out how they accomplished the greyscale soooooo well. absolutely stunning
That whole movie montage though!!
Wow you guys are really amazing! I cant imagine the work that went in to this 👏👏👏
The makeup alone must have taken SO long! ;-)
@@HappyTrailsHiking According to a comment from one of the people in AoH, yeah. Makeup was a huge pain, I can imagine.
@@HappyTrailsHiking More than an hour (total; most of it was being in lines for those that finished the final phase about when I did.)
@@HappyTrailsHikingwe had to hire a team of people and volunteers to get the make up and extra details perfect. But the gray scale, we did ourselves.
YoYo Kid I enjoyed watching it all come together. Matt happens to be on stage with you. 😄
Stunning artistry, magnificent singing. Bravo!
Oh...my...goodness. That was beautiful!
And True Colours brought tears to my eyes 👀 😢
So beautiful ♥️♥️♥️
they did such a great job telling a story!! :)
My eyes sting with tears. . .
This is my best performance ever 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
My Favorite Performance of all time! I did not attend last year but I was there in spirit thinking of all the barbershoppers
Literally cried at the end of the set. So moving. It’s wonderful! Greetings from a close harmony fan in England :)
This puts a smile on my face.
Thank you for brightening my day
In going from gray
And end in a colourful space.
That little thumbs up at 0:54 makes my day. This was such a fantastic set!
The chord at 4.20 made me melt!!
Man, major 7 chords need to be utilized more in barbershop. Yeah, they are very hard to tune, but when the context is right, they glow.
What a beautiful, emotional, and inspiring performance. One of the best I’ve ever seen.
Amazing singing and stage presence! The black & white was a stunning change from all the groups that came before, and then the color pops with True Colors... I was amazed and deeply moved. Wish they would have won. Bravo guys!
What a magnificent, creative performance. This is why we love AOH!
That was SPECTACULAR. Great dedication from all performers to make that happen. Just awesome. 🤠🤠
One of the best. Very well done.
Now that was a performance. Respect!
So awesome to be in audience for this one! Loved having half of our team on Stage for this! Way to go Matt and AOH!!
Wow. Just wow. What a beautiful set.
Brilliant!💖
Just fabulous!
Simply amazing performance! I bet it was wonderful live!
I was able to see the first ever performance of this in my hometown St. Louis before they went to competition and even now watching it over again it still moves me. It is just breathtaking and a piece that will never be forgotten. Seeing it live is just bonkers and incredible
Another fabulous performance! Congratulations!
So entertaining and so much fun to watch! Bravo!
Fantastic - always a joy to watch.
I love it! Wonderful
This is such a beautiful performance and I can't tell you how happy it makes me that songs from Chaplin: The Musical are still being heard years after it failed to make its mark on Broadway. If the rights ever go public, I would love to direct it. Wonderful job AOH.
Beautiful job!!
WOW!!!💜💜💜
Outstanding! Very interesting how the tag kept getting quieter rather than being one long crescendo. So effective.
What an incredible group of talented musicians! This is so fantastic! How clever you all are!
I still get chills at the end.
Thank you BHS for posting all this awesome stuff. You've literally changed my life! (That reminds me. I need to go practice...)
I just watched this set back-to-back with Westminster's set. All I can say is that I'm glad I'm not a judge. I must agree with others: any other year this would have won. Full stop.
@rogerdotlee my favourite was Zero8, I find the top two sets distracting, too much going on.
I love this! At least 50 times I have watched this masterpiece
We can't wait to put on our Ultra 4K HD set in a couple of years. ;)
Amazing! Thanks for releasing this!
I can't believe this is 5 years already
This has gotta be by FAR the best ever chorus set that didn’t win
Not saying that Westminster didn’t deserve it, cause their set was legendary, but just saying that this set is as good if not better than the majority of the winning sets over the past 15 years
Um.....WOW.
Brilliant!
Choir: All in black annnnnnnnnnd whiiiiiiiiiiii--
me: 😳
Commercial: RAID SHADOW LEGENDS
me:😑
Choir: ite!
🤦🏿♀️Really
The overtones @4:45 - 4:56 are off the charts.
Beautiful!
Unpopular opinion barbershop edition:
Ambassadors should have won
I like to think of anything above 95, or anything that moves me or pulls me out of my chair as a gold medal performance. On the one hand competition is good for driving excellence, on the other it minimizes the high level of artistry in the to 2 or 3+ groups.
Any other year this set would've won. This year Westminister pulled out a rare diamond, star-shattering performance that was better. Can't wait what AoH will come up next year.
As a member of the Ambassadors of Harmony chorus, thank you very, very much. But I believe it to be pretty much consensus opinion among my chorus mates that Westminster absolutely deserved their gold medal and the judges got it right. We are so proud of what we put on stage and are thrilled with the response our set received from those in attendance and from the comments here.
@@ericdrennen5570 I did hear that the judges were very close to the stage, and it was pretty difficult to see everything you all put on stage, which could have affected your performance score. Either way, both ensembles were brilliant
I wish I could donate but I cannot unfortunately cannot but I’ll watch videos for ad sense
I genuinely can't tell if that D6 at 4:46 is an overtone or someone singing it, wow!
Can anyone pick out the special characters portrayed in the set?
Here are most of them: The Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy, WC Fields, Keystone Cops, Charlie Chaplin, the Kid, Erroll Flynn. There were one or two more but can't remember their names. All of them were movie stars when movies were only done in black and white, and then transitioned to color; that's why the bit of color at the end of their set.
I was the guy who played Buster Keaton.
@@pomloverly The fellow on the treadmill with the straw hat and round glasses was imitating Harold Lloyd. One of the costumes might have been a take on Rudolph Valentino as well.
Even better in 240p xD
Anyone know why AoH got to have their whole set uploaded, but Westminster didn't? 🤔
It's ok, man.
To be fair, Westminster's set can be separated, whereas this set works much better together.
The characters are beautifully set up in the first song and the story continues through the second song.
That’s what you come with, Dom?
its becasue W won, the winning chorus has their strongest song uploaded, but W's balled is not up yet
Ad in the middle of the last chord. BOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I don’t get it
It is a marvelously thought out and executed story with some very talented actors and dancers. But... aren't we supposed to be a singing society? Yes, the singing was awesome, but it was delivered as background music. And the young newsboy/waif - is that a girl?
No. The "kid" is played by a very talented young man.
