Another lovely update Dora ❤ Those First Tunnels hoops look really sturdy. Always a good idea to cover over newly planted onions and garlic otherwise the birds would have a field day. Your allotment is coming along nicely. Have a great week ❤
Thank you Linda ❤️ they really are! My big netting has arrived finally so looking forward to getting them covered properly now 😃 have a lovely week too!
Hi Dora. I used to use blue plastic water pipe for the hoops which fitted into short sections of slightly larger diameter pipes hammered into the ground . I've gone over to the simpler method of old cane supports with inferted drinks cans on top to protect the net which is mostly inexpensive green debris netting. For any sets or direct sown seeds I just start by protecting them with a loose thermacrop cover laid on the soil like you've done with the environ mesh that you have handy.
Thanks David! Do you suffer with allium leaf minor at all? It's another reason I'm planning on trialling the netting this year... however I am torn as I'd like to let the pollinators and ecosystem work its magic too
@@doras.allotment fortunately not suffered from allium leaf miner up here near the Lake District. .... yet . I'm trying more poly culture too but seems to end up growing onions where they have space and not get too overshadowed.
Wow Dora… what a busy episode. I came looking to see of there was a new video this week and realised I hadn’t finished last week’s video. Whoops, sorry 🙏🏻😭🙈 I love that you’ve bought some first tunnels hoops. I love them. They’ll outlive me, for sure. Mine are only the 1.2m wide ones. Yours look huge. The bag of manure looks good stuff.. but a fair push from the bag to the plot. I did smile when you’d lost the coat for the second barrow. You’re also pretty strong for a petite girl, lifting the barrow in to the compost bay. I was very impressed! Girl power 💪🏼 Hope the onion sets do well for you and the broad beans too. Must say, I LOVE the directors chair ❤❤
Thanks Clare! I didn’t realise how much I got done until editing 😃 it was a long allotment session looking back! They seem so so sturdy! I’ve got the 1.2m ones to go on another bed so looking forward to seeing how those are too 😃 Haha love this, thank you 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 the allotment work definitely helps keep us keep fit! It’s such a squeaky chair but I love it 💚
I use a crow bar to drive a hole perhaps about a foot into the ground each side in our windy location. Works well. Very sturdy. Hammering a shorter metal spike would work also. They are certainly good robust hoops.
Oh I love “pumpkin seed” roasted and they are very good for you. Only a gardener gets excited about a pile of poop 💩 😅😅. You definitely got a lot done and saving some seed as well 👍. Have a wonderful week ahead, Ali 🌧️🥶🇨🇦
I will never throw out the seeds again! Haha it’s very true, it’s golden 🤎 thank you Ali - and a huge thank you for the seeds, they’ve arrived!! Have a lovely week ☺️
Welldone for slumming it with us lot Dora, using FT hoops 😂😂 you're a real youtuber now! ❤ I've never bought the larger hoops! How they look huge! You can push bamboo canes into the soil then slot the arches down :) Danny 🌱😊
😂 slumming it. They really are huge!! I’ve had to order a LOT of netting which will be fun to get over. Yeah I may have to do that, so far so good with the body weight method lol. Thanks for watching Danny 😃
I'm so glad I found the time to fit your video into my day! Dora, you've come on so well on RUclips, and your plot is looking fantastic. Well done, you! ♡
Put a layer of compost over the runner bean bed Dora ,they're actually perennial. Next spring they will reappear when mother nature decides it's time to start growing again. Your bag of manure seems to be well rotted and ready for active service . Only 47 more wheelbarrow journeys to go .
Ooh that’s good to know! I’ll get some of the manure onto the area asap then 😃 it does seem so, I’m really hoping the soil enjoys it. You were right, there were a lot of barrows!! The poor thing is squeaky now
Hi Dora great Vlog you should be doing cooking shows not gardening 😂 recipe looked really tasty.Youve done so well as time is at a premium with the dark nights my beans are coming up but i planted them directly into the ground this year had a really productive weekend planting more fruit bushes also ive even got a kettel set up in my shed so nice to have a cuppa while you work keep well and keep posting 😊
Thank you! That’s a big compliment… it’s so rewarding cooking what you’ve grown isn’t it. Really makes you appreciative. Thank you so much! I think I’m going to get some beans in direct too. Well done! Very productive 😃 I wish I could have a kettle in my shed. Maybe I can get a camp one… once I’ve tidied up the shed!
@@doras.allotment Hi Dora hope youre well if you dont mind me asking do you have a previous knowledge of gardening or is it just something you picked up ive always pottered about but never had an allotment before its just the tips you have seem very good thanks Aaron
@@doras.allotment I need to grow more onions this year.....for some reason we've just plowed through the stash more quickly this year. I like a variety called Patterson for storage.
Dora ..Lovely video.Very beautiful farm.. Your work is great. I am getting guidance from you. I like your planting technique..I am waiting for your video. I get to know something new in the video
I’m hoping they’re still standing 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I used my body weight to get them in the ground 😂 otherwise I may have to try something like that, or some rods. Thank you for watching ☺️
Hi Richard, I’m not as my mission next year is to just successfully grow onions at the plot 😂 I only had one successful one at the allotment this year, the rest were eaten by slugs. Thankfully I had a few in containers at home but I’m really hoping I can get some for the cupboards next year!

Saying that, I try to remove any netting asap once sparrow attack diminishes, then let the blackbirds do their bit feeding on the slugs and snails.
