Thank you so much !!! I´M from chile and I discovered this great talented artist last year, traveling over the most beautiful country in the world, AUSTRALIA !!! Barnes, the best voice ever !!!
17:55 I've just listened to this song 'Brother Of Mine' for the very first time today [17/01/2022]. I have been a die hard Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, and Ian Moss fan ever since 1981-2 when I first heard Cold Chisel on the radio over here in Invercargill, New Zealand - I must have been 18-19 then. A friend and I traveled up to the Dunedin Town Hall to see Cold Chisel play on Saturday 24th September 1983 and wow what a gig. And in 2015 my wife and I attended the Cold Chisel gig at Broadwater Parklands in Surfers Paradise on the GC as part of the V8 Supercars 600 on Saturday 24th October - only a 28 year difference between the 2 gigs...Oh that's right I also say Jimmy Barnes play the Dunedin Town Hall on Friday July 11th 1986...big gig that one - boy did Barnesy have a big sound then with Tony Brock on drums and Chris Bailey on bass - it was so meaty. And I also say Jimmy at the Civic Theater here in Invercargill on Monday 6th February 2017 as part of his 'Working Class Boy' tour over here to New Zealand. So to this song 'Brother Of Mine' and in particular to the lyric: 'Blood is thicker than water, our father always said But that don't mean a damn thing When I look at your empty bed So run back, run back to me Come back to family Run back, run back to me, cause I love you Brother of mine' I know what Barnesy is singing about here as I've read both his biographies 'Working Class Boy' & 'Working Class Man'. And you know what...man did I choke up listening to this song and those lyrics. You gotta feel this song. And feel the love Jimmy has for his older brother John Swan 'Swanee'. Their love is indeed way thicker than water and is the hardest of blood I believe. Read Jimmy's auto biographies to understand it - as I can't even begin to explain it here. And on a different note - I know how thick blood is too as I had my near-death motorcycle accident here in New Zealand in 1990 when I was 26. I instantly amputated my left leg at the knee after falling off my bike on the open road at high speed failing to take a corner - and I slammed in to a farmers paddock concrete fence post. V fortunate to survive. Ultimately my entire left leg was amputated as high up as my hip and left side pelvis after septicemia [blood poisoning] set in to the remaining stump. I only weighed 69kg when I crashed that evening. Today? Around 74kg...I never had a brother in my life - I do have an older sister. I am fortunate enough to have a couple of strong friends who I consider 'brothers'. It is the bond between us that inspires me as boy has there been times since my accident I have been so low I needed their help to pick me up from the 'gutter' I was laying in. Would like to thank Jimmy Barnes for also his music than continually inspires me to live. 'There Ain't No Second Prize' all right...
Tommy Emmanuel is an amazing songwriter in his own right, exposing his own pain creates a connection, an understanding that he knows what your soul is feeling.... And Jimmy? Well he's just an absolute legend!!! The brightest stars shine even after such darkness...
@@michellecollins6827 Excellent comment thank you. I wasn't aware of Tommy Emmanuel's song writing capabilities. I will consult Dr Google and see what I can find. Do you have any recommendations? I browsed your profile and noticed you have a 5 song playlist from The Motels. I bought a CD from The Motels 'Clean Modern, and Reasonable'. It is an acoustic take on their music. I like it however it may not be to everyone's taste. Here's a link to the first song on the CD 'Counting' if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/7Rl6fwXAay4/видео.html
I'm pretty sure Tommy wrote it about his own family dynamics... I absolutely love Martha Davies and the Motels... Oh and I can't resist anything accoustic and live...
