His highest point of his coaching career was ending the 1940 curse. His lowest point? I'd say benching Dale Hawerchuk with his dying grandmother in attendance.
Glenn Healy was wrong when he said that Al Arbour had won 6 Stanley Cups. He actually won a total of 8. He won 4 Cups as a player, and another 4 as a coach.
The story of Keenan haranguing Dave Manson in Chicago is great. Keenan went too far and Manson lost his mind. If Stu Grimson had not been there, Manson might have brutally assaulted Keenan. Grimson managed to prevent Manson from getting to Keenan, who was terrified by Manson’s reaction and immediately began apologizing.
@@brando7266 Keenan didn't know how to win. He knew how to sell himself to general managers. He had a couple strong regular seasons and decent playoff runs with Philly in the mid 80's and then became an expert at leveraging that for the better part of a decade. Keenan knew how to talk himself into a position behind the bench of stacked rosters, and he knew how to convince others to look past their instincts that he was a bad coach. He also knew how to trade an overabundance of talent for a smaller amount of talent that was still capable of competing. That's what he knew how to do.
