Just ran mine, but I swapped out the motor to a 3s Arrma motor. Why? Because I wanted a higher kv motor and not one designed for 4s like the one that it comes with. I hit 44mph with stock gearing off road. I also put a Savox servo and I'm using a spectrum reciever. I changed all that before I even ran it. I'm using a Gens Ace 8000mah 3s battery so I had to buy the bigger 35mm hold down for the battery. I really like it with those changes 👍
It kills me that people take something ment for one thing and hop it all up, making it less dependable and more prone for breakage. Faster is NOT always better. As I tell everyone, by adding metal drive shafts and bigger KV motors, you are begging to explode the drive train. Everything has its limits. The Traxxas designers generally think ahead on their designs, not always, but for the most part. I just picked up my Stampede 4x4 VXL and it is simply put, a well designed, smooth running , awesome truck for what it is.
Thats the same motor as the Maxx which hanldes 4s fine, so it's not overheating. If you're having overheating issues i'm 99% sure it's the ESC. Motor fan wouldn't hurt though.

What are you going to do about the motor overheating after just one battery pack ?
