Threadripper+1080 Ti+top of the line mobos and ram and case easily fits into a 6000$ budget build along with top of the line keyboard and mice that are way better than the crap pre-packaged with the iMac pro. No number pad? And it's for professionals? Jeez. You could add a professional monitor in there too easily.
Everyone: "And how much does it cost?" Apple: "oh about 100 bucks" Everyone: "But, we can get other wireless mice with much better ergonomics and... you know... a SCROLL WHEEL for about half the price!" Apple: "Naaah, buy this one! Who needs a scroll wheel when you can just use the mouse as a touch screen which makes it way more annoying to use and more expensive!"
I wish my Core i9, TitanXp and 64GB RAM with SSD could run iMovie or Final Cut Pro. I'd love to see how my performance compares to the Mac's. That Mac cost WAY more than my desktop even with the 3 monitors.

I agree, I'd totally use Apple hardware and software just for toying around with it. But even if I had an actual use case for Macs, which I do not, they still wouldn't be worth the price. Apple clearly doesn't care about people who are A) not uber rich and/or B) not uber stupid enough to buy hardware based on the Apple on the back rather than actual performance.

You should see his vids on the Red camera systems. Over 100k on two cameras and batteries. He was freaking the eff out. His camera people wanted them apparently. He must have given permission to buy them and then had sticker shock.
*Make a video where you slice it open and upgrade it as much as you can and a video where you build a hackintosh with better parts or the same to see the cost*
Do you consider it unethical for Apple to continue selling their Mac Pro at 2013 prices when the iMac Pro outperforms it in every way at a lower price?
Say what you want, I do think that trashcan is sexy af and the internals are making me moist. Specs be damned, 95% of the viewers would never bring such a machine to its limits and it can easily run you 7-8 years. I certainly wouldn't either since I do audio work.
This versus a Threadripper. You can get a 16 core Threadripper system with equivalent or better parts in every category, a 5k monitor and other knick-knacks. Plus, there aren't many benchmarks of the low core count Xeons.
Exactly. As a reminder, threadripper has support for ECC memory. You could get a 1950x and a Titan X for dirty cheap compared to this system. And if you really wanted to , you could also get 64 gigs and some thunderbolt cards, as differently from the Xeon, Threadripper has 64 pcie lanes, which would barely be occupied by thunderbolt , even if you really wanted 3 ports. overall, you could get a better setup for 1 thousand dollars less, with 5K, a beastly threadripper system with 16 cores and 32 threads, 64 gigs of ECC mem and , if you may, internal storage. The most pathetic thing is that some websites are advertising this as less expensive than a regular setup with those same specs. Pathetic.
Yeah it feels bad. Just imagine the apps you are going to be losing on for 3D rendering when compared over to Apple. Or the fact you have apps that actually matter for high end video editing. Final Cut can only take you so far. The skill ceiling for it is pretty low, but so are your possibilities. Same with 3Delight.
MKBHD said that this is actually fairly priced at a base price of $5,000, compared to a custom built pc. Direct quote " for the hardware outside and the spec your getting its actually a fairly priced machine, that a roughly equivalent pc would cost $5,100" thats without a 5k display don't forget. MKBHD'S spec is 3GHz 10 core, 128GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB SSD and a Radeon Pro vega 64 16GB. The spec they got here obviously has had some change done to it so its $6,000 or does linus live somewhere else ?.
Just a question in general, why are macs often used for Adobe products, front-end web development, other stuff like that. I never really understood why tbh
Per Karlsson Or maybe it's because you get your opinion of Apple products from circle jerk sources that only praise Mac's and downplay their faults. To the eyes of most Windows or Linux users, the iMac looks like a waste of money.
Once again you show us all that you know nothing about Apple... iMac Pro is nowhere close to being overpriced considering the components that sits in it. Apple's tech support is rated as one of the best in the biz. Thermal throtling occures in most computers not jus Apples.
as far as looks, ive always like mac hardware. the packaging is really sharp and high quality. but i dont like the non-modular hardware. and the questionable pricing that we often see
Josh Hust but I think the whole point of iMac is to be a all in one desktop, you buy one product and you have a full computer experience, maybe you will like the future modular Mac Pro instead.
Josh Hust I agree with your point, but maybe if you made it modular, the design won’t be as sharp. Btw in this case, I don’t think the iMac Pro is overpriced though, compared to the MacBook Pro🤔
The pricing is actually very comparable to an equivalent Windows rig. As for modularity: this is sort of a stopgap machine until there's a Mac Pro sequel later in 2018, although this is *very* alluring for movie/TV studios that need a production machine on set.
Don't put Windows on it. That would hurt. Build an equivalent Workstation PC! Level 1: Rebuild using the same hardware specs! Level 2: lvl 1 + Put it in a modern All-in-One PC "Case"!! Level 3: lvl 1 + lvl 2 + Make it a Hackintosh. Run OS X on it!!! *Footnote: Can it run crysis? *EDIT: I meant macOS (formerly OS X (formerly Mac OS X))
"Oh no, we don't use back slashes in the Mac." All *nix environments use forward slashes for file paths. It's just Windows that uses back slashes for file paths.
Ibraheem Al hadede since they can get a 80000 red cam what is this? And they probably have all the components they need lying around in collecting dust somewhere so why not
Yeah, Windows is the *only* OS I know that doesn't use backslashes*. And don't forget URLs in web-browsers. And Windows actually accepts both, because someone must have realized a while back Windows *is* the odd man out and people were having troubles with the switch. *That I personally know of, but that doesn't mean others don't exist. If you are aware of any, I'd actually like to know.
I equally cringing at the hotkey complaining. CMD+F for fullscreen makes more sense than ALT+Enter. CMD+Q for quit and CMD+W for close window makes more sense than ALT+F4 (and then you're still not sure if you're closing the program or the GUI). CMD+R for refresh makes more sense than F5. etc...
Angry Bulldog Gaming If you seriously want to, dont mine Bitcoin. mine an altcoin like Zclassic or Bitcoin Gold. also dont use Nicehash. 3% fee is way too high
thedrkjones11 That's actually something that the machine does really well with final cut pro, even the raw footage straight out of the camera if your using something like a red cam
with the dedicated nvme controller (basically an iPhone cpu) (stuff like encryption ext does have not bottleneck on the cpu) this will do that no problem at all.
IRockerbacon in Canada yeah. Buying computers in Canada sucks. You’re not paying a massive premium for this compared to a windows equivalent, like maybe around $200?
I love how the windows/pc overlords completely ignore the fact this is an all-in-one with incredible engineering and visual appeal. Yeah, you could make a powerful pc with 6k CAD, but maybe some people don't want a fucking tower, maybe some people want an incredibly sleek, all-in-one, with complete warranty and quality that is going to last you more than 3 years
I looked into it. Somebody made a wrapper for crysis in 2013, and all the comments on the forum seem positive. I assume that paired with a vega 56 or 64 you could probably run it, probably. I don't own a mac, because I'm not a fart huffing hipster, but if you have 6 grand lying around you're free to give it a try.
Alright so I went on PCPartpicker and I made a PC that featured a top end 1080 Ti (You could 2 way SLI some standard 1080Tis for almost the same price though), a Threadripper 1950x with a top end AIO water cooler, a 2TB SSD, 32GB of high end RAM that is Threadripper compatible, a good mechanical keyboard and decent mouse, along with a massive 4k IPS monitor, high end PSU and everything else you need, and it came to less than $5000 and is far far better than this Apple product.
Oh excuse me, a threadripper 1950x, 2TB SSD and 32gb of ram isn't workstation worthy. My point still stands, you can make a much better computer for less money than that product.
Nope. To begin with, getting a 5k screen is pointless as there are far more 4k screens which have a lot more compatibility and are cheaper. You can buy a good 4k IPS panel for a fraction of what your £1500 figure, giving you a screen that more things are designed for and practically no difference. Secondly, the AMD Threadripper 1950x is 16 core, which in case you haven't noticed, is more than 10 cores, the 1950x having a Passmark score of almost 22k when the Xeon has a measly 15k, all that performance for only about £100 more. Thirdly - why on earth have you picked a Radeon Pro WX9100 for this? The build in the video has a Vega 56 which costs 1/3 of what you said. It sounds to me like you picked that card just to add another £1000 pointlessly. Furthermore, if a 1080 Ti isn't a "workstation" card, then how the f*** is a Vega 56 a workstation card? I could go on but I don't see any more reason to with this. You can build a PC that is equivalent or better to this Apple computer for a lot less; the build I suggested was using some of the most high end components which could easily be switched out for a cheaper version with little loss in performance and a great reduction in price. This Mac *cannot* compete against a PC with components picked carefully by somebody who knows what they are doing when creating it.
I’ll keep holding my breath for a separate tower. I prefer an independent screen as well. My maxed out 2014 Mini ($1,700) was and is still fast and solid enough for my graphic design work, and it drives two 2k screens!
Looking at what you picked for parts. I would just but an iMac Pro. Cheap ass MoBo not even workstation grade. No 10Gbps LAN No ThunderBolt 3 ports. No M.2 yeah on. clearly, you don't know PC.
the ssd in the imac pro is nvme as well. So add on another $400 for that. And you have hit over $5000 as Alien guy said. Now remember thats $5169 USD. Linus bought this for 6K CANADIAN!. So do the conversion and it comes out $6500CAD.
Why everyone thinks Apple's iMac Pro is overpriced? If I did movie editing for a living & I use FCPX then an iMac Pro is the way to go. With all of the overkill PC's Linus build why is an iMac Pro killing you all so much? To me this is not for me my 2017 MacBook Pro 13" works just fine for the video edits I do & very fast. I don't need an iMac Pro. Now if it was given to me for FREE you damn right I'll take it. LOL
Because it is. You can do literally all that on a PC desktop for a third of the price, and you can do it better. Literally, the only benefit over PC you could possibly have is if you liked macosx better than windows. Which you can put onto a PC anyways.
keco185 well duh it would perform better. I hate to be that guy, but I put together a PC part list for the same price. It had a 16 core, 32 thread Threadripper 1950x, Asus rog strix x399 Mobo, a Titan X Pascal for its GPU, and 128gb ddr4 ram at 3200mHz. It had an 850watt titanium 2 evga PSU. 250gb ssd. 4tb Seagate hard drive. Corsair h110i. Cooler Master cosmos 2 because it's fancy, and expensive. Also included windows 10 pro ($100) the total cost was $6001.99 This machine would smoke the Mac shown off in this video. The "price to performance" ratio is non existent with most Apple products. Especially not this one.
A top spec Imac Pro is £12,500! I'm pretty sure you can build a dual Xeon 6140 rig for that kind of money, and without the space limit you can have some big spinners for bulk storage instead of just 4tb of SSDs
But then you are comparing a self-built desktop with a pre-built AIO. Not a fair or realistic comparison at all. At least wait for the new Mac Pro.....
Lapn no it is not you moronic know-nothing. Comparing a self build tower versus a pre-built all in one? They don't match the needs of a huge part of the market, they don't match the convenience and time saving and they don't match the warranty - all pretty damn important to the target market. Try again.
Michael Garry because it's really convenient to have to send your entire Mac away for repair when something goes wrong (and it will). Something broken in your tower? Take out the offending piece and replace it all by yourself, five minute job once you know what it is. Not to mention that OSX runs that much better on any tower because of this one little thing that any all in one lacks... Airflow...
Is it actually in RAID 0? Since the T2 houses the SSD controller, I think it's just accessing both banks of NAND as it would multiple NAND chips, since there's one controller I don't think calling it RAID is quite right. Think of, I don't know, one GPU powering two monitors, that's not two GPUs.
First of all I agree, the looks are amazing on the most of the Apple products (if not the best). But a lot off companies just want great computers for their employees and don't care a lot about the looks. I just want to know how much they overprice their products in name of aesthetics! It just was an idea for a following up video, like he asks at the end of the video...
@Samuil Dichev: de gustibus et coloribus non est disputandum! (Even the Romans knew that) And a lot of people spend loads of money on their car or house, just to make it look good. Maybe you're not that kind of person - which I think is great - but other people find it important.
It’s stupidly expensive but it’s not meant for normal everyday use. There’s pc’s that cost that much, granted they will probably have more power than the fully speced our iMac.
The reason Apple uses forward slashes is because it is easier for developers to navigate to certain files within the terminal or in their code. The '\' character indicates an escape sequence used to format strings. Using the '/' makes it easier to write code and use the terminal. All Unix based operating systems use forward slashes because that is what is standard.
The internet uses backslashes. I don't think any iOS, Linux, etc community can top that. I mean it's brave to swim against the stream, but it won't get you far.
My dad is a website and graphic designer plus coder and he uses an older 2007 model on Mac OS X 10.6.6 I think. It still works like new and never lags for work use. (Of course no way you’d do any gaming on it. Probably not even cuphead. However half-life and fallout 2 play flawlessly when installed as .exe files in wineskins.)
it depends on what you do. 7GB PSD files with 200+ layers are not so funny anymore with a 2007 imac. I switched to PC a year ago. Apple systems are not optimal configured for graphic design in overal. PS, just a little detail... graphic desingers dont need an Apple.
Tbh would be awesome if you guys would revisit the Mac from a Windows user perspective series. I guess that they haven't fixed stuff like only 4k on Windows and worse gaming experience when not booted to Windows and stuff. In general that series was very helpful to see the pros and cons
Why are these so expensive? Is it the aesthetics? I just don't understand why its $6k for an all-in-one with a 1TB SSD, a GPU that's just OKAY, and 32sGB of RAM? I have a PC that's so much more powerful that cost me $2.4k. This is a genuine question- can anyone tell me why Apple products are so expensive? Especially their Desktops and Laptops?
Go spec up an equivalent pre-built desktop from Dell or somewhere else a professional environment would purchase their computers from, and then tell everyone how the iMac Pro is overpriced, because the equivalent workstation from Dell is very similar in price and doesn't include a 5k monitor nor does it hold resale value as well as the iMac will.
TheMrWillje I think PCMasterRace tried building a 5K computer with the same specs along with a 5K monitor and the iMac Pro just ended up being cheaper to be honest. Sure you can go on PCPartPicker and attempt to build the same computer yourself but it’d be more building it yourself, due to having to include a 5K monitor.
Still using my Mac Pro from 2009... 8-core back when 2-core was amazing, upgraded to 32GB RAM and 2xRX470s, SSDsx4 in the slidey drive bays... Upgradeability has kept it relevant for all these years, and it still handles all of Creative Suite open at the same time. I may check out the new Mac Pro when it debuts, but I will never buy an all-in-one anything ever.
I would and think other people would love to see what you could do with a $6000 budget as far as buying an off the shelf windows PC. Then put it against this Apple computer. Then a $6000 custom built PC and see what is truly the best "professional" computer. In the production category, gaming and other typical use comparison.
You have to admit one thing. Its freaking beautiful. I wish it had the option to be used as an external monitor so i could connect a desktop to it as well.
How is it insanely overpriced? You get a 5K display that's probably worth 1500-2000 dollars alone and an Xeon processor that costs about 2500 dollars and that isn't even including the peripherals and the actual all in one case
7:26 I spent a lot of time these holidays on my knees
Thats how he paid for the Mac!
At least his wife is happy.
im not gay, but a $20 is a $20
I thought he said on my neice
Isn't that common for everyone buying Apple product? They sold both kidneys ages ago so now that's all that is left...
kumbandit tru
$6000 imac vs $6000 homebuilt pc would be an interesting comparison.
Dux Ducis Hodiernus I agree, just so we could see a PC destroy that over priced paper weight.
Pc would be a water cooled monster fingers crossed for that video
with the same parts, it would be the same machine (but the pc would have much less ssd bandwidth when running encrypted)
Don't forget to put all the components into a thin monitor :)

its a shame if something happened to this iMac
LOOOOL.
LMAO
Aw the foreshadowing

Talking about the devil 😂
Apple: "our mouse is perfectly designed"
Everyone: "why... is the charge port... on the bottom...?"
Apple: "perfect"
Jordan Eilbert it does look nice though
Everyone: "And how much does it cost?"
Apple: "oh about 100 bucks"
Everyone: "But, we can get other wireless mice with much better ergonomics and... you know... a SCROLL WHEEL for about half the price!"
Apple: "Naaah, buy this one! Who needs a scroll wheel when you can just use the mouse as a touch screen which makes it way more annoying to use and more expensive!"
Feels shit tho
But lots of mice are $100... my MX Master was $100. The Magic Mouse has horizontal and vertical scroll just like other mice...
mfw I would buy the Razer Naga Croma instead and save $40
Number pad! thats an easy 2k$ extra to the price obviously.
$30 more when you buy it standalone
Also, It Comes With No Mouse Buttons, Easily A $80 Difference!
TheNightJackal I’d hope the keyboard had no mouse buttons: they belong on a mouse.
*'It' referred to to the computer is general.
starting off a video with a distressed moan...

He moaned at least this loud..

Bigtruckseriesreview Motorsports nice bullshit specs lmao
You stupid idiot.
Maybe if you weren't living on welfare checks you'd understand.
You should get one of your editors to do an iSwitched to it for a few weeks. See how it actually performs in a content creation environment
Agree
I would definitely be interested in this!
And ruin output? Don't do it Linus, noooooo.
put that on tarans place and make him use it! it would make a good channelsuperfun episode as well.
Do an extensive thermal test, haven't seen one yet!
tipoomaster like it would last long in the first place lmao

They don't have that many fire extinguishers.

The base model in Australia costs $7300 and the top tier costs $20,600!
surfie007 apple prices are just ludacris in Australia but they’re still so popular smh
What's up with computer prices in australia in general?
Lex probably shipping costs although it is a bit overkill with the prices
Nah USD wise, it's similar excluding the tax they put on

Apple is expensive. I find Linux a viable alternative.
I agree, but thats all very well until suddenly one day you have $6000 to spend on a computer. Would you buy the iMac pro? I wouldnt.
No. I have one of their 13" laptops, but my pockets are not deep enough for an iMac Pro. :)
To be fair though an external 5k monitor costs about the same as a baseline 5k imac so you have to give them credit there.
No RGB = dealbreaker
We need Apple to be sexy _and_ cool.
tokekkk they should replace all the metal parts with see through rgb plastic
But is whoops H 265.
rgb is dead
the screen is rgb
Its so funny. As soon as Linus spends any of his own money on any product he sure does let you know.
people still love knowing when it's not sponsored and when it is
Umm.. have you seen his nose?? Of course he complains about spending his own money..!
what?
Spending 6000$ for a review? he sure should let you know he bought it himself
Well there are times in his life where he has to do things without being sponsored like the rest of us.
Is Apple gonna slow this down too?
Michael Albanese yes
No dummy...it is plugged in....All the big RUclipsrs will have this
Lol, Apple haters always take clickbait and repeat it like the shills they are.
Yes, of course, we here at Apple love money, so if you wanna use your product more than 3 years then: fuck you (!) for not giving one of the richest companies in the world more money. Kind Regards, The Apple Team

"Half of the money went towards the packaging."

no. 3/4 of the money went towards absolutely nothing
well, gotta have those sky high profit margins
Golden Eagle, the packaging is ridiculous but Apple has to do all that to keep it from breaking in shipping while at the same time giving it a luxurious feel or vibe.
I like how he didn’t give a crap about the space grey keyboard and mouse that every other RUclips is calling home about.
Because its just a color change and not a whole wide design shift. Most RUclipsrs who are content creators are Apple fangirls while the computer enthusiasts know that Apple is overpriced shit which is mainly just the OS.
Well they are pretty unexceptional. The material design and hardware update is what's awesome
Apple mouse is the worst mouse ever created, it's beyond me how someone can use it. I get cramps in a minute with it.
Do a tear down...i wanna see what's inside!
If I remember right, the entire unit is completely sealed, and to get inside they'd have to basically destroy the screen.
I could be wrong though.
Hell yeah.
Spoilers: I still want Linus to do one but there's already a teardown on MacSales. It might surprise you.
appleinsider.com/articles/17/12/28/teardown-of-apples-imac-pro-shows-ram-upgrades-possible---with-extreme-difficulty
Linus is cheap, he'll probably gonna sell it soon
ilovecatweazle buyer's remorse
I did not expect the audio jack Apple. I am impressed!
They're catching up, pretty soon they'll have a right mouse button too!
They've had a right mouse click since 2005. Its just hidden. On the old 2005 Mighty mouse you just right click normally.
Have Apple sold a computer without an audio jack?
JayJapanB I am making fun of the removal of the audio jack on the iPhone
I was surprised it had a port for it's power cable
The first time Linus cared about how much money was spent.
That is sarcasm right?
Watch his red 📷 rant
It’s fucking 6000$ of curse he will!
You should see his vids on the Red camera systems.
Over 100k on two cameras and batteries. He was freaking the eff out. His camera people wanted them apparently. He must have given permission to buy them and then had sticker shock.
Of the console from apple
$13,926.98 for maxed out version
NavalNation You can buy car at that point
around
$21,000 in Australia
And you can build $5000~6000 pc that will be much better than it.
I can buy a freaking house with that amount of money
$13,200 in America. Not including tax. However, a similar specd PC would cost around $11,000, so it’s not too bad
*But can it run Crysis?*
Jay Rao im early and this will probably be top so just replying
Nah
Barely....
No
No it cant
It looks amazing, but I would never buy one.... It is crazing how much it is worth!
Chase Schrader for a similar spec pc, it costs the same amount
Chase Schrader no?
Its not worth its price...
it is not 'worth' that much, apple decided it could charge izombies that much
How much would a comparable high quality 5k display cost? That would be worth factoring in.
He handles this iMac pro like it’s a everyday computer
lmao I was thinking the same thing! had me dying 🤣 the PEEL(s) !!!I was waiting for him to smash his thumb on the fresh back apple logo
*Make a video where you slice it open and upgrade it as much as you can and a video where you build a hackintosh with better parts or the same to see the cost*
Bhavik Singh And get sued by apple easily
why sued?.. he bought it himself.. so it his property now.. it just void the warranty thats all
YES! PLEASE! PLEASE DO! OR A GAMING HACKINTOSH!
Hackintoshes are illegal, in one way or another.
And find out that this is more cost effective? Fuckin' nerd.
For sure would put windows on it
Kyle ._. lol Windows is pure shit compare to OS X
Maicon Afonso you're a dumbass
Maicon Afonso agreed, Windows is Sh*t
virusboy07 lol you are hardcore apple fans
macOS is just more refined than Windows. At least when we talk about video, music or just look and feel of the OS.
Put windows on it
BammySammy thats not how you do it bro
Ahhh helll nah, shitiest OS
AlchemistGamer nope its not. A good amount of applications isnt applicable for IOS.
The question is flawed, why would you spend 6k on a mac period.
It only seems right
Do you consider it unethical for Apple to continue selling their Mac Pro at 2013 prices when the iMac Pro outperforms it in every way at a lower price?
Of course, but it would be completely off-brand for apple to turn down even the slightest chance of squeezing more money out of uninformed consumers.
Christian Stout
Actually many configurations of MacPro is cheaper than the iMac Pro and its still a good computer.
They actually have cut the price of the 2013 Mac Pro... slightly.
Christian Stout I dont think they care, nor would I
Say what you want, I do think that trashcan is sexy af and the internals are making me moist. Specs be damned, 95% of the viewers would never bring such a machine to its limits and it can easily run you 7-8 years. I certainly wouldn't either since I do audio work.
I was hoping Linus dropped it
I agree this can’t be a “classic unboxing” as there was nothing dropped.
Boytie boy Vlogs but the box dropped
This versus a Threadripper. You can get a 16 core Threadripper system with equivalent or better parts in every category, a 5k monitor and other knick-knacks. Plus, there aren't many benchmarks of the low core count Xeons.
I think they went the Xeon route because AMD systems don't support TB at the moment. Hopefully that will change soon.
Cooling though?
Pathetic.
Mateus Albuquerque the most pathetic thing is that you are not gonna get Finalcut Pro on PC. How sad.
"I spent a lot of time this holidays on my knees..
like.. not like that Brandon..."
Macboi it was all to get an iMac Pro.
Mohamed Alfalo whatever works
MKBHD said that this is actually fairly priced at a base price of $5,000, compared to a custom built pc. Direct quote " for the hardware outside and the spec your getting its actually a fairly priced machine, that a roughly equivalent pc would cost $5,100" thats without a 5k display don't forget. MKBHD'S spec is 3GHz 10 core, 128GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB SSD and a Radeon Pro vega 64 16GB. The spec they got here obviously has had some change done to it so its $6,000 or does linus live somewhere else ?.
hes from canada
Idunnohuur dude iMac Pro doesn’t use lga2011v3 it uses 2066. The CPUs are newly released Xeon Workstation chips
Canada
I want to see linus use final cut X to edit a video
Tony's Tech
It is the reason why we love macs
You mean Taran. Man I'd love to see him give an opinion on that piece of software.
Just a question in general, why are macs often used for Adobe products, front-end web development, other stuff like that. I never really understood why tbh
Draco
Because of the operating system...
The simplicity and the cleaness
oohhh, yes please
$5000 was the Mac. $1000 was the shipping cardboard box.
Welcome to Apple.
+
Owh, I thought it's $2000 for the computer and $4000 for the badge.
Unknown Blogger try building a pc with those specs please. Oh and try 5k monitor packed all together with light thin monitor.
Unknown Blogger 1500$ for 5k monitor. 1500$ for cpu. 500$ graphic card. 600$ 1tb ssd. Final Cut Pro? Space grey wireless keyboard? Power supply packed? Cooling system? WiFi card? Bluetooth card? Speakers?, try yourself
you could get all that under 6k easily.
Drop test the Mac
HitDaLick bullet proof test the mac from the U.S army
This channel is honest. Other channels only talk about what's amazing about it. Thank you.
It is mostly amazing so Linus maybe isn't so honest? Or he just doesnt understand macs?
Per Karlsson Or maybe it's because you get your opinion of Apple products from circle jerk sources that only praise Mac's and downplay their faults. To the eyes of most Windows or Linux users, the iMac looks like a waste of money.
Once again you show us all that you know nothing about Apple...
iMac Pro is nowhere close to being overpriced considering the components that sits in it.
Apple's tech support is rated as one of the best in the biz. Thermal throtling occures in most computers not jus Apples.
@oofpacito "bad tech support". What other company has dedicated stores?
epic gamer I don’t think Asia is poor, it really depends on the country. China and Japan and Korea should have a lot of Apple stores.
as far as looks, ive always like mac hardware. the packaging is really sharp and high quality. but i dont like the non-modular hardware. and the questionable pricing that we often see
Josh Hust but I think the whole point of iMac is to be a all in one desktop, you buy one product and you have a full computer experience, maybe you will like the future modular Mac Pro instead.
same, I have a MacBook Pro and a windows custom built, I really wish apple made computer cases lol
I have an iPad and I really like it for some reason. Wouldn't buy a Mac or an iPhone, but will probably by a new iPad when this one goes.
GoWadka It can easily
No, crysis don't run in macOS.
After installing windows on it, it will easily run crysis
GoWadka name one reason why a "professional" can't use a tower + monitor
"Oh no, we don't use back slashes in the Mac."
All *nix environments use forward slashes for file paths. It's just Windows that uses back slashes for file paths.
Warp yes even your fucking Browser!!!!
"is it the base model?"
"Not quite, but almost"
👌
The cheapest way of getting hold of RX Vega at the moment.
Built a very similar spec hackintosh and compare!!
Michael Wang Wht a waste
Ibraheem Al hadede since they can get a 80000 red cam what is this? And they probably have all the components they need lying around in collecting dust somewhere so why not
7:48 "No we don't use backslashes on the mac, we use forward slashes!"
You make it sound like the Mac is the odd one out here...
Reed Harston I think you mean Windows is the only one that *uses* backslashes; I'm not aware of any other OS that does.
I cringed at this. In many aspects macOS is far cleaner and closer to *nix than Windows, so hating it for that stuff is kinda strange.
I equally cringing at the hotkey complaining. CMD+F for fullscreen makes more sense than ALT+Enter. CMD+Q for quit and CMD+W for close window makes more sense than ALT+F4 (and then you're still not sure if you're closing the program or the GUI). CMD+R for refresh makes more sense than F5. etc...
in true...it doesn't.
Linus is one of many people who says beautiful on downloading files...
Difference beetween Vega 56 and Vega 64 IMac Pro= 800€
lol... well in italy tis all overpriced for FUKEN SHIPPIN FEES ( dioporc....)
Drop it like never before!
Into a trashcan full of lava!
Do a comparison with top of the line build vs this Apple Pro.
Forward slashes > backslashes
Windows is the exotic one there.
next video: How to set up your very own Bitcoin mining machine.
Angry Bulldog Gaming 1 month ago...
Brandon gill it was kind of a joke comment but now I’m actually interested lol
Angry Bulldog Gaming If you seriously want to, dont mine Bitcoin. mine an altcoin like Zclassic or Bitcoin Gold. also dont use Nicehash. 3% fee is way too high
powerplayer75 Alright thanks for the advice I’m gonna do some deep research in those alternatives.
Step 1, buy bitcoin ASIC. PC/GPU mining of bitcoin hasn't been a thing for years and it won't be again.
Try editing red 8k footage on it
thedrkjones11 That's actually something that the machine does really well with final cut pro, even the raw footage straight out of the camera if your using something like a red cam
with the dedicated nvme controller (basically an iPhone cpu) (stuff like encryption ext does have not bottleneck on the cpu) this will do that no problem at all.
matthaus woolard apple fan boy here, in short this is shit I could build a pc with double the processing power for the same price.
7:24 I spent a lot of time this holidays on my knees... That's what she said !
Charles Huot thats ehat he said ;)
Charles Huot nah that's what Linus said
Sarcastic review in the sarcastic mood!! Justified.
Happy Unboxing New Year 2018, Linus!!
Go nuts!! Go unboxing techs!!
literally got goosebumps from this unsatisfying unboxing at 4:25
AAHHHH!!!!!! QUICK, RETURN IT!!
iMac, uWallet
3:35 When you can't rant about the iMac since it's actually good, so he rants on the packaging. lol
To be fair the display itself is well over $1k.
ktfjulien
They go for $1100
IRockerbacon in Canada yeah. Buying computers in Canada sucks. You’re not paying a massive premium for this compared to a windows equivalent, like maybe around $200?
IRockerbacon Nope
Ares $200? Try $2000
Ares please link to a 5k monitor for 200$ because I want that shit
The salt in here is spectacular
Alden Mor i got some sea salt in my cupboard of you need any more.
I should have stopped scrolling at this comment.
The salt is strong with this one
I mean, it looks sexy and all, but for $6000 I can do a lot better
Go on then. Same or better parts, in an pre-built AIO with the same or better warranty. We are all waiting....
Michael Garry It s clearly that you are an apple fanboy and you now SHIT about PC s
i dont think you realize what godly PC you can make with less than 6k. obviously you just an apple fanboy who doesnt know good products
I’d get a new camera, laptop, and accessories under $6000 lol (obv the laptop isn’t as powerful, but still...)
I love how the windows/pc overlords completely ignore the fact this is an all-in-one with incredible engineering and visual appeal. Yeah, you could make a powerful pc with 6k CAD, but maybe some people don't want a fucking tower, maybe some people want an incredibly sleek, all-in-one, with complete warranty and quality that is going to last you more than 3 years
8:08 yeah, that screen really is gorgeous. so much depth and clarity
*can it run crysis*
Tom's Gaming4k maybe lowest settings and 144p
Tom's Gaming4k the better question is:
Can it play minesweeper
Cutedu *overpriced piece of shit
No
It can barely run minesweeper....
Can it run Crysis?
First time I've ever laughed at this joke, And i don't honestly know the answer.
Jack Boes it can barely run Minecraft on low 😂
Holly Chan calm down
Alright so I went on PCPartpicker and I made a PC that featured a top end 1080 Ti (You could 2 way SLI some standard 1080Tis for almost the same price though), a Threadripper 1950x with a top end AIO water cooler, a 2TB SSD, 32GB of high end RAM that is Threadripper compatible, a good mechanical keyboard and decent mouse, along with a massive 4k IPS monitor, high end PSU and everything else you need, and it came to less than $5000 and is far far better than this Apple product.
But it doesn’t run macOS, therefore it is inferior
Good joke
That's some professional level trolling
I’ll keep holding my breath for a separate tower. I prefer an independent screen as well. My maxed out 2014 Mini ($1,700) was and is still fast and solid enough for my graphic design work, and it drives two 2k screens!
I would like to know how much it would cost to build that exact same system as a normal desktop that runs Linux/Windows
This PC is a lot cheaper than the new iMac: pcpartpicker.com/list/xDQcQV
You should've gotten the 10 core Vega 64 version
keco185 why? Still not worth it.
It's the sweet spot in money vs performance. It starts at $6400 I believe and would perform way better than this one.
keco185 well duh it would perform better. Especially not this one.
keco185, That also included 2 4k monitors
"Top tier gaming PCs are the best PCs in the market for every use case". This is basically you.
Airflow...
Michael Garry on almost every pc part you buy you'll get 2 years warranty
Michael Garry and it's much cheaper. And if some part of your pc dies. you know how to replace it because you build it
That moan at the beginning probably has my family wondering wtf I am watching, my speakers were turned up all the way, thanks.
7:47 Windows is the only OS that uses backslashes.
If linus responds, I'll send him a Titan Volta.
I would like to see a Windows dual-boot and gaming performance on both. Also thermals would be nice.
Make a same spec Hackintosh! :)
Stijn De Bruyn good idea😂
Sorry for you you didnt get the point. It's not the specs. It's the whole. More professional looking than any PC I've seen in a freaking while!
(Even the Romans knew that)
And a lot of people spend loads of money on their car or house, just to make it look good. Maybe you're not that kind of person - which I think is great - but other people find it important.
GREAT IDEA
mining on the imac
$6000 - 1 iMac Pro or 471copies of Shrek the Third. Make the right choice
Are the 6000 bucks themselves an option?
Gimme Shrek
I'll take shrek
Linus is the only RUclipsr who unboxes an iMac exactly the way we would feel
How about Editing Red Footage on Final Cut Pro X
MKBHD uses one for that exact task, and apparently it's great.
Jonathan Morrison did it as well, he had a great experience
alien guy please stop
The highest version with actual quality specs is $14,000........***slowly kills himself.....***
It’s stupidly expensive but it’s not meant for normal everyday use. There’s pc’s that cost that much, granted they will probably have more power than the fully speced our iMac.
What is essentially your argument? Technically you just contradicted yourself subtly..
hans vidrio With all the "best parts" it's *_20k€_*
Mrbomben LP how?
But can it do this?

The reason Apple uses forward slashes is because it is easier for developers to navigate to certain files within the terminal or in their code. The '\' character indicates an escape sequence used to format strings. Using the '/' makes it easier to write code and use the terminal. All Unix based operating systems use forward slashes because that is what is standard.
Yes. We use forward slashes. Everywhere. Bar windows...
The internet uses backslashes. I don't think any iOS, Linux, etc community can top that. I mean it's brave to swim against the stream, but it won't get you far.
Pardon, i genuinly thought "forward" and "backward" would indicate the starting point of the slash, not where it's ending. My bad.
Is so expensive!!!!! 18 grand is the max model! (With final cut pro and motion pro)
Tax write off for most Youbuters
Cpu alone for the max model costs 12000 dollars. Fair priced at 18000
Based on what information? A 18-core 2.3 GHz processor with turbo of 4.3 aka Intel® Xeon® W-2195, costs only 2553 USD according to Intel...
MrEskoS its different with each region. Here in Greece this cpu costs THIS MUCH. You're lucky it costs 2500
0:00-0:01 when you step on a lego
$1600 mac
$1000 of hardware
$600 of packaging
I wanna see an apple ecosystem overlook and how all their products work of together
So tell me the truth
Is it going to turn into a 2 core after several months?
only if that power cord gets degraded.
And why would that happen? I'm still rocking an 8 core Mac Pro from 2009 that is going 110%, no matter what I throw at it.
It's cool... but can it run crysis?
Also my ISP blocks tunnelbear ._.
GamingMad101 Which country are you in?
England, vodafone is bad tho
GamingMad101 why would they block it?
GamingMad101 Vodafone fucking sucks... Even here in Czech republic, we used to have it.. It was pure crap
Ironic haha. Surely there must be some way for you to acquire the client, then Vodafone won't be blocking anything anymore.
Maximilian M they fixed the 4k on windows in a driver update for the iMac 5K. I am running Windows with native resolution.
Oliver Flanders well thanks for the reply, but you didn't really answer my question
He explained how to answer it for yourself.
BixbyConsequence no, it's like I commented on a video about cars asking how a car engine works, and he said "my car engine works"
Make a hackintosh that rekts this
This
Still using my Mac Pro from 2009...
YES! compare the iMac pro to a high end PC, cost preformance etc the whole spectrum!
My dad: spends £3000 on an iMac
Also my dad: questions me paying £250 on a decent PC
I would and think other people would love to see what you could do with a $6000 budget as far as buying an off the shelf windows PC. Then put it against this Apple computer. Then a $6000 custom built PC and see what is truly the best "professional" computer. In the production category, gaming and other typical use comparison.
Josh Needham good idea, would enjoy watching that

Enjoy paying hundreds of $$ every single month for software

One more thing:
Exclude pirating
You have to admit one thing. Its freaking beautiful.
I wish it had the option to be used as an external monitor so i could connect a desktop to it as well.
"Spent a lot of time this holidays on my knees." xD
love the classic unboxing vids, keep them coming!
6000 USD!!!!!!!
canadian dollars
still insanely overpriced
i wish stean sales get on imac pro!!! like 90% off
How is it insanely overpriced? You get a 5K display that's probably worth 1500-2000 dollars alone and an Xeon processor that costs about 2500 dollars and that isn't even including the peripherals and the actual all in one case
Yeah, plus a $100 mouse. Worth it.
Linus's reaction to all of the product is amazing.
