Anyone watching in 2024, I can confirm that m3 pro 12 core is just marginally faster than the 10core iMac Pro. But iMac still renders in keyshot faster.

I agree with you that, for iMac systems sold without a built-in DVD super-drive, there were none better than a 27-inch iMac Pro (the ports, the power, the display, the cool space "gray" color with matching track pad and mouse, etc.). This is why, I plan on adding one to my collection after their price drops below $2,000 on the used market (smile...smile).

Tests were done with the final intel iMac. The 27 inch from 2020, and its maxed out model with the 128gb of ram, the i9-9900K, and the Radeon 5700 XT actually performs much better in GPU intensive tasks. If you want to do stuff like play games on mac that is the best way to go. Only get the iMac Pro if you are doing CPU intensive tasks, aka actual pro stuff

By the time I had saved enough to upgrade my system in early 2020, the 2020 iMac with the i9 and RX5700XT outperformed the iMac Pro by a lot, so I got that instead. I still had Space Gray envy, but I fixed that with some gray gel film that It attached to the chin and it looks exactly like an iMac Pro from the front! Definitely wish I had 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports though.
Still happily using it today, 4 years later.

I still use one till today. The 5K display is still one of the best you can find, try finding a similar one and you'll quickly end up with a Studio Display. The Pro's speakers are simply great, best sound quality on any computer ever. Even though it's Intel, it's still plenty fast in 2024 for most tasks, including video editing in FCP. It's hard to find a compelling reason to upgrade, which for me will be the Mac Studio down the line. Best of all, it is still supported by Apple’s latest OS version, including the upcoming Mac OS Sequoia.

Have 2x 2013 iMac 27 i7 32GB, Geforce GPU 4GB, 2x 2010 5,1 MacPro Dual CPU, 128GB, Vega64 GPU rebuilt, 2019 MBP 16 i9, 2021 MBP 16 M1 Max 64, 4 TB (pricey at $4400) and SW has improved as new versions tuned in on Apple silicon, and will serve well long term.
All my old Macs are still useable in many ways... Love the 5,1 MacPro's still even if not near the 2021 MBP. Been pondering a Studio M1 Ultra nicely equiped, but for the high-cost ($6500 + $1500 Monitor) it'll be updated soon with M2 or M3 architecture for nearly same cost.
Considering an iMac Pro 18 core, 128GB 4TB for about $3K... looking more like a nice investment the longer time goes by... may let the Apple Silicone get more advanced before a hefty new investment. In the meantime, the iMac Pro with essentially the same Monitor as the Studio monitor... if used for 2-4 years it'll be a great package for a super buy in comparison.

Still happy i bought the Mac Pro 2019. Yeah, it cost a lot of money. But for what i do with it, it will last me years and that's good enough for me. The modularity will keep on going existing. Even though it might not be from "Apple itself." PCI-E is third party in most cases anyway. That being said, i remember Craig saying the Mac Pro will be supported for years to come, and yes, when it comes to that, i believe him. Look at the old 2009 cheesegrater, in a lot of cases, it is still being uses. If i can get anywhere from 5 to 10yrs out of this Mac Pro, that would be incredible! Meanwhile, i will lookout of course for what Apple has to show with the new upcoming Mac Pro. The only thing i can hope for is that it's at least a bit cheaper. I'm looking out for a new Apple XDR display as well with Promotion and mini led!

    It's really surprising to me...
I used to have Macs and iOS devices...but the games vanished from the platform with Apple killing 32-bit and OpenGL. I've since moved to Windows and Android and I've had so much more fun.
I remember the ads about Macs being about fun and Windows being about work, but...to me it seems that's changed.
Macs are even going the way of appliances that you can't even upgrade. It's insane to me that I can buy a gaming laptop for $800 and have upgradable RAM and storage
but spend $1000+ on a Mac and everything is soldered to the board. Just doesn't mesh with me tbh.

I don't get the argument that a new Mac Pro probably won't be as upgradeable just because it's more powerful? That doesn't make any sense. And I don't think Apple will ditch this functionality on the Mac Pro. It's way more likely that the just keep the design and just remove the dedicated GPU since the GPU is already integrated in the SoC. Same goes for the RAM most likely but besides that the still can keep it upgradeable in form of you can still add your stuff you may need for music production etc.

My person guess: it will have four USB Type C (Thunderbolt 4/USB 4) ports, possibly three USB Type A (USB 3.1) ports, an SD card reader fully compatible with the latest standards, and now (more likely) a circa 28" mini LED display with ProMotion. And will support up to two M1 Max SoC's. It will likely be thicker than the current 24" iMac, possibly 50% more, to accommodate the cooling system for the dual M1 Max SoC's.

      @mendodsoregonbackroads6632 3 года назад

Apple has two other desktops, one of them being the Mac Pro, and the other one is the Mac Mini, which is a pretty decent middle of the road desktop. However as far as “All in ones” go Apple also makes some very good ones in that category as well, and I think you would be hard pressed to beat even the 24” iMac they released last year, let alone the iMac Pro from 2017.
I paid 2K for a 24” iMac with 1TB & 16GB. It came with the mouse & Touch ID keyboard, 4.5K display, very good built in speakers, 1080p webcam, two thunderbolts & two USB C ports, in a very nice aluminum enclosure, not that plastic crap other PC makers ship. Of course it comes with the standard Apple software which includes office apps that Microsoft charges for, and work seamlessly with iPhone and other Apple devices like watch and HomePod, Car Play and iPad. (That alone is worth at least $500 over the course of a couple of years)
Plus it’s fast. Not quite iMac Pro fast, but still pretty fast. And the thing is the M1 SOC will end up being the slowest Mac chip apple will ever design. There’s a pretty good chance the 27” iMac will come with at least a basic M2 design, if not one of the M1 Max designs.
Meanwhile Windows all in ones are stuck with intel or maybe AMD and have to get rid of all that heat.
