Reading BAD God of War 1 Reviews

- Опубликовано: 5 фев 2023
- Welcome to today's video and possibly new series where i read bad reviews about a God of War game. Today's game is the first in the series and the genre defining God of War that came out in 2005. It obviously didn't have a lot of bad reviews on metacritic(which is the site that i'm going over) but there were some bad ones down there.
.
Enjoy. Игры

Ain't no way someone called the music in og God Of war games mediocre 💀
Their taste is non-existent, and probably believes Pac-man is the greats of orchestra 😂
ewwwwwww
God of War 1 is timeless, even if someone plays it in 2030, it will still be just as good.
I very much doubt the (modern) gaming industry will have it in them to be anywhere as innovative and great as old gen games were (and in old GoW's case, probably nothing will ever be able to match its grab system **especially since nuGoW is getting the attention now**), so yeah, pretty much.
@@MrWright when games were designed as games and for having fun, they were almost perfect. When gaming has shifted from fun to cinematic experience, it became crap.
Bruh im playing it now, and it sucks so bad, and i love all the other gows, literally suffering
@martinek89 this sounds satire
I still believe to this day, and having played all games, GOW1's music is my favorite. Like, there are some areas in the game where you fight enemies, and then a part of The Vengeful Spartan plays. Everytime this happens, each BUM BUM BUM leaves a huge goosebump and awesomeness whenever I finish an encounter. Truly brilliant.
ZESTY PLEASE MAKE THIS READING REVIEWS VIDEO ALOT MORE OFTEN
YESSIR
GOW1 for 1 has really awesome music, while it does have 3 bosses, only 2 of the bosses are pretty tough, Hydra is just way too easy to beat. GOW1 has its moments of being really fun to play and the levels of toughness escalates in Hades. Honestly, I have GOW1 as my all time favorite GOW game to play.
@Phoenix Gaming I have beaten the Hydra on Very Hard mode. Didn’t lose any health because I blocked a lot of the attacks and when it goes for the bite on the mast, jump and Poseidon’s Rage it. I did that for awhile and it’s a good tactic to use
I started playing Gow1 using as much aerial combat as possible. And It's probably the best way to play the game.
I started a new game a week ago on god mode for the first time. I was expecting to have a hard time, but actually found the game surprisingly easy.
However I just finished the path of hades/underworld, so I know the toughest part is yet to come (the clones).
@@krotos6134 good luck man. They gave me problems and the first time I played it, I died about 300-400 times and took me 2 months straight to finally beat it. I wish you nothing but luck against the clones
Well, the hydra is easy today because of so many videos showing how to kill it. But when we came out, believe most people playing were children with close to none knowledge or skill of timing. I really had a tough time killing the hydra the first time.
6:20 I think the reason for him saying that the music is annoying bcuz he found the game hard and probably spent a lot of time in a level and has mild PTSD. I have a similar thing with Niflheim in GOW 2018.
Oh yes. This actually makes sense :D
Honestly, Zeus Wrath Divine is the best track in the game but it legit triggers me to hear it, the clone fight is one of those fights that was super epic for me when I was playing for the first time on normal but on higher difficulties it's just too much. Although it is super satisfying to murder all the clones with army of hades and poseidon's rage combo and get like 600 hits.
I mean I was getting annoyed when I kept hearing "THANATOS, PRODOSIA!!" after dying many times in the Kratos clones fight.
3:21 bro your expressions here were priceless 😭
Shut bro
The title should be people held at gunpoint were forced to give god of war bad reviews against their will
Bro almost cried from all the blood while 10yo me was feeling satisfied
We built different.

Honestly I think gow1 story is decently compelling. I’m really biased because this is one of my childhood top 5 games, but the epic structure of the story, paired with the awesome narration and soundtrack, really makes you buy into the plot, it feels like you’re playing a parallel universe’s version of the Iliad
I liked the “He just wants to sleep” reference 👀.
Good vídeo

“What’s the use all u do is fight?”
Oh I don’t know, because it’s a FIGHTING GAME? What did the dude buying this game expect? Fucking Tetris? Like I know some people who review games are pretty dumb but this one just takes the cake imo.
Also completely missing the platforming and puzzle sections

I did this once with Mario 64 reviews, it's always fun to see had reviews that don't make sense.

I reckon he/she hates every game made today
im feeling kinda down but seeing a video by you makes me feel a bit better
>GoW is a game that came out in 2018
That's Soy of Wa-
>correction
Good.
>giving gameplay 1/10
>no reasons given
Opinion? Rejected.
>gives the story 7 out of 10
So it's one of those people who values vidya stories over what games are supposed to be about (gameplay).
>average of two 1/10s and two 7/10s is 1/10
Failed basic math. Nothing to see here. Next.
>overrated
Criminally underrated, especially when people always bring up nuGoW as being the better choice (when it isn't by a long shot).
>can't have fun
'Fun' shouldn't even be a metric here. Way too nebulous.
>don't know where the 7 is coming from
Apparently from the 'fact' that it's set within that time period (and that's it).
>button mashing
Know-nothing casual who only played on Normal (or Easy) detected. Another rejected opinion.
>would subjectively prefer this one game from a different genre any day
You're free to be as wrong as you wish. Bye.
>don't know where the button mashing is coming from
It's either:
1. Parroting the same criticism from someone else who said the same thing.
2. Played on piss easy settings (yet complains that the game wasn't hard enough to force him to do something else).
Either way, input from a casual, which is rightfully discarded into the trash.
>can't button mash on the hardest difficulty
Casuals wouldn't know. They never do. They just love making uninformed opinions about everything.
>advertising my vid
Appreciate it.
>no
The best way to react to this nonsense.
>hardest game he's ever played
He'd love Ninja Gaiden (2D and 3D **one for difficult platforming aspects, and the other for being a pure Action game**).
>almost cried when he saw so much blood
HA! HA!
>it is what it is
Took you long enough.
>RE4
Arguably more 'gory' if only because Leon has like... what, a dozen different death animations?
>button tapping comb-
*Glove slap*
>annoying platform elements
I see that here's someone else who jobbed too hard on these.
>nothing new or innovative
Mind telling me how many 3D Action games had a ground to air grab? Oh right, casuals wouldn't know about that.
Also, if he ever played DMC... I wonder how he'd react when he hears the title: Rising Zan: The Samurai Gunman.
By now, I hope people understand how untrustworthy review sites in general are. I have never made a purchase based on these, and never will.
>camera issues
It doesn't have anything of the sort. NuGoW, on the other hand (to a much greater extent)...
Also, while it hurts to say this, KH1 suffered from this. But still, it may as well have been the best 3D Action RPG at the time. And still holds up well enough.
>dull storyline
Why is it that know nothings are picking the element that matters the least in a game? You can almost tell they've never read books (let alone being into them to experience something GOOD for once, instead of looking in the wrong medium **games, of all places** for that).
>hardly offers gameplay time
That's the wrong 'God of War' you're talking about.
>talking about the length
Doesn't matter. What is replayability? What are the different difficulty settings? What are costumes? What is Challenge of the Gods? What are specialty runs?
>lasting appeal
You mean other than having one of the best (if not the best) grab systems in the genre?
>longer than that
>that is a Hack and Slash
Kingdom Hearts? Though that's more an HnS with RPG elements.
>there's also replayability
Exactly.
>all you do is fight
I don't even need to bother.
>birthday
I see.
>what do you want in an Action game? Racing?
Well, Kingdom Hearts has light stealth elements, shoot 'em up elements, minigames, puzzles, 'platforming' (no real fail state, though), etc. and I wish none of that was present. But at least you can skip cutscenes in KH2 onwards.
>unoriginal
Already touched on this (grabs).
>GoW doesn't have Holy Waters
Don't forget that they're selected from a pause menu (so you're 'invincible' while doing so). Yet again, I can't believe that a Disney game in KH did this better (items are used during combat, where you can get smacked if mistimed **but at least you can't nuke entire groups of enemies with any item in the games**).
>give one example
In general, protection missions in Action don't fit well. The Clone War has one intended dev solution (other than the 'vet' intended solution for specialty runs). As GMG says, the fight is rigged against us in a way that it doesn't allow you to do much, most notably when trying to use the one thing that would make the most sense (Lance of the Furies).
But still, the guy said the game was full of this.
>puzzles
The thing with some of these is that devs tried to mix them with combat, which makes them more engaging. Same for RE4.
>ripped off DMC
Took long enough to see this one.
Anyway Zesty, I didn't know DMC had such a great grab/collision system, or that it encouraged you to abuse the environment nearly as much as GoW did. Maybe I'm just blind. What do you say to this?
>has way too many QTEs
Going to take a wild guess and say this is one of those weak-willed people who can't resist the urge to press circle when an 'O' flashes above an enemy's head (even though there's plenty of times where you're better off going for damage kills). Mind telling me how many of those QTEs are *required* to beat the game? Let's see, we have...
- Hall Hydra's, if you don't have a high enough output to kill it via damage (which is the case on VH).
- Hydra King's.
- Medusa's.
- To be generous, let's say Pandora's Guardian's.
- Ares 1's.
And that's it. So much for the game being 'full of QTEs'.
>has you playing as a psychotic maniac
And? Is your willpower so weak that you think you're going to turn into Kratos if you play as him for a certain amount of time?
>DMC resemblance
B-but Zesty, GoW has *red orbs!* A-and... Well the Internet says this, s-so it must be true!
>evaluation
Ayeee.
>glove slap
THIS. This is what we need when hearing these fellas talk '1 out of 10 for the FUN department'
>ground to air grab
Exactly. The entirety of the grab system is revolutionary.
Ground to ground grabs,
Ground to air grabs,
AIR TO AIR grabs.
Grabs on different enemies yields different orbs? Hello?
Grabs allowing us to use an enemy to destroy another enemy (got expanded HEAVILY with GoW3)
>protection missions
Was talking about a flaw in the average encounter.
>DMC with grabs
DMC4 got inspired by none other than good ole' God of War for the grab mechanic that Nero has.
This kinda makes me wanna do video about the whole subject. God of War and Devil May Cry are different beasts.
>DMC resemblance
Still the stupidest argument in humanity. There's just A LOT of different stuff going on for them. DMC is a sword to sword battle while God of War is all about positioning and...
Let's leave it for the video that i might make one day.
>this is what we need
Don't forget to slip a brick in it for your next video.
>grabs doing A, B, C, D, E, F... X, Y, Z
This system is beyond them, Zesty. It's s,s,t or go home, in their eyes.
If you show them Holy Water spam, they'll either run for the hills, or cope with the usual 'U cAn'T GeT S RaNKs ThIs WAY!!' (and the perfect response to that is the fact that no DMC game, other than DmC on a very specific setting **which is why you should specify 'no MAINLINE DMC game** forces you to get good ranks to see the ending credits **which is the actual goal of the game**).
>expanded in GoWIII
BR?
>flaw in the average encounter
I see. Well, not like they can muster the required knowledge to come up with a decent reason to explain that.
>DMC4
Yes, yes, so I heard. As well as the fact that it didn't even come close to matching the depth of GoW's grabs.
>Nero
Zero.
>a video about the subject
You going to get mean and compare one fight in GoW showcasing good tactics, and one fight in DMC3 getting destroyed with Holy Waters?
>leave it for the upcoming video
Noted. So you'll be streaming the Clone War next?
>BR
No. Grabbing enemies starting to mean much more things than gaining orbs and killing the said enemy fast.
You have all gorgon types and their grab kill ends in kratos rasing the decapitated head to petrify everyone around.
You have the 'ride' system where you control a big enemy (flipping the whole script on them). You damage a cyclops berserker enough and you can control him and destroy enemies around, same with the cerberus (not a breeder).
>DMC4 grabs nearing GoW
"Not in a million years" BUT it's actually pretty good in its own way.
The game doesn't flat out tell you "this big enemy is injured, you can grab him", you have to find that out for yourself.
Other than that we have a pretty cool thing and it's grabbing objects (or in some cases enemies) while they fly towards us.
There this boss named Credo and he's one helluva boss. He has a move where he throws spears at you and if you time it right, you can CATCH DAT ISH and throw it right back at him, impaling him in the process.
The grab is also good for using enemies on eachother but then again, not even close to GoW.
>the video
No. The point will not be to point out how inferior DMC is. It will simply point out the HUGE differences they have.
>clone war next
Kinda busy with more stuff now. Possibly in a near future.
@@ExtremeGameplays1 >Kratos raising the decapitated head to petrify everyone around
Oh? That sounds really neat. Haven't heard about this.
>ride system
Think I've seen one or two instances of this. Funny.
>not in a million years
Nice use of that line (from a game I have no interest in playing).
>Zero's grabs
While all of that sounds nice on paper, I'd still have to see their utility in practice. I haven't heard about most of those, so I should probably watch a video or two about them.
>pointing out their differences
That works as well. My proposition sounds more like something I'd do (then clarify on the 'closing thoughts' bit that, while DMC does have good combat, people should have no reason to bash GoW because the former apparently lacks a lot of the issues that the latter seemingly lacks **which isn't the case**).
>busy with other stuff
Understandable. As for me, I have planned a vid where I'll do an ode to Zim (besides that Cerberus RO). After that, I'll part ways (temporarily) from GoW proper to expand my horizons (with DMC, God Hand, etc). I'll come back to do runwork for GoWII later (as well as side runs, such as NGR+ and NBR+). This is partly because that insane testing did a number on me (burnt me out of GoW).
>expanding your horizon
You do what's best to have fun.
I'm planning DMC3 stuff but first i have to git gud at the game. I mean i'm good, but for NUR? I'm gonna have to get VERY good.
Also i will check out UnclePhill when the time comes.
I love how you have a doom, gow and resident evil poster behind love it
thank you so much like before 1 year i don't like gow series but you make me learn combat and story deep in all gow games and now it's my fav game ever 🙌🙌🤝🤝
"Never falls a lot." It seems you don't remember the last GoW 1 stream I seen Zesty.
It is what it is :D
4:19 this is just golden
Now I feel like going on metacritic and write reviews for all the games, very positive reviews of course.
Yes. Please do so.
These outros always giving me goosebumps
I started the Greek Era Marathon finishing with 1 (dont ask me why) I can see the age of the game but GOD was it still a banger of a game.
These reviews truly show us how we should never listen to review
Pretty much
@phoenixgaming7739 same for me like people hated Arkham origins so much i thought of not getting it but then i got it and i am having so much i know it's not good as city but still reviews truly show some other things same for god of war acension
@@darkbrogaming976 reviews only care about the story which is sad
The old reviewes from like 2005-2008 were all weird 😂
Yup
I actually beat the clone part only using square square triangle because doing anything else resulted in me dying and that was a skill problem not a game problem. And even just using square square triangle is still fun and satisfying to see the enemies fly into the air.
Hold square, that combo is very good
Honestly the only thing that is a pain in the original games is the fixed camera view (which for the time was pretty well made) but with everything else with the games is absolutely perfect
Wait a second now Zesty we all love GOW here but you leave DMC alone lol. This was a good idea for a video, great stuff
Why? dmc isn't a perfect game lmao
@@AaronBiswas I guess you didn't see the "lol" at the end of my comment. Very observant 💩 for brains

Gow1 was first and perfection for that time, and still holds up today.
Expect the platforming and the Ares boss, they're terrible.
@@DasVicks63the ares boss is awesome stop the cap
@@lightmohamed5700 it's crap, boring and uninteresting. Any forces you to use the shittiest weapon the Artemis blade.
@@lightmohamed5700 nah, it’s objectively garbage.
@@DasVicks63 it doesn’t force you on anything
It keeps you engaged because Ares has a tons of really cool fast and slow moves and can easily hit you and stun you if you block too much and will absolutely obliterate you if you mash button you have to be careful in using magic because if you use it all immediately you won’t get the most value outta of it
Then he gets you in the clone war which makes in on the edge of your seat and sweating
Then gets you to the must unique boss battle in the series with a whole new weapon only made for this section of the boss plus will take all your magic away so it’s going to be a full on swords duel in the classic way THE ONLY TIME IN THE SERIES
Again Stop the cap
God, seeing that one guy say that God of War """ripped off Devil May Cry""" physically hurt me as someone who is a Devil May Cry lover!
I love devil may cry as well, but people SUDDENLY think that God of War got ALL its stuff from dmc3.
That's far from the truth.
3:24 BRO I WAS WEARING HEAD PHONES I GOT JUMPED SCARED AND MY EARS WENT SHIT
Hi zesty Im really loving the content and the music of God of war is excellent and the reviews are kinda goofy
8:52 apolgoies for doing this, you probably already know this and didn't want to enter a rabbit hole in the video pointing out the individual differences -and the channel you showcase here addresses that in his own findings and experience of the game- but the Darksiders series has some elements of GoW by way of the brutal executions, but in gameplay it's more DMC and LoZ-like dungeons in a more openly traversable world.
There's no style counter in any of the games, but neither is there super wide sweeping whip/chain weapons. Closest you get is the Scythe, and that one's pretty rigid-- *definitely* not as far in reach or flexible in movements as the Blades of Chaos, or Dante's Inferno's Scythe of Death.
Fury in 3 does have a whip, but the main inspiration for the gameplay style there went into another direction.
Ghost Rider goes the opposite route. His hook on a chain seems to be more GoW-like in terms of combos and moves, but there is a DMC-like style meter.
For Castlevania: Lords of Shadows, i'd say the first one has most in common with GoW. More linear progression and WIDE sweeping chain whip weapon. Lots of bosses too. The second title (not the interquel) is *much* more divisive, though still solid in combat-- and allows for usage of two other weapons aside from the whip.
And for almost 1-to-1 GoW clones in terms of gameplay, look no further than aforementioned Dante's Inferno-- as well as Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death. Clones as they may be, they seem to have been competently executed at the very least.
And Dante's Inferno *E S P E C I A L L Y* goes hard in the direction of the art design. To deliberately icky and uncomfortable extent, as the Unbaptized Babies, Gluttons and Temptress/Seductress enemies can attest to.
EDIT: You addressed this game later on. I don't know where your opinion on it lies, i presume a bit on the negative side, but i'd still be up for seeing you explore and give your thoughts about that game more sometime in the future.
I'd say it's worth to look more stuff up about them.
That all aside, thanks for the video, 'twas a fun one.
3:30 I played God of war 1 for first time 1 month ago and when O heard the venguful spartan music my face expresions were the same (the music is epic)
God of War 1 Is In My Opinion The Best God of War Game , and The Boxart Where Kratos Stands Infront of Olympus Looks WAY TOO Beautiful!
We need another one for gow 2 and 3
Awsome video. Those reviews were hilarious. I think almost every review had something to say about the button massing. That is a week argument. There is skill in knowing when to attack, evade, and block. And yes playing it on God mode will challenge you even more but having an understanding of how to use Kratos and understanding the enemy types make it much more fulfilling. Also some reviews complained about the story. The story is a good story. As you go through the game you start to understand Kartos motives and how the God's are really a bunch of d!$k's. Kratos got played so he got pissed. Overall great video, looking for more. PEACE
Aye idk if this is a weird suggestion or not but...
I would like to see you make a video about The Mythology Guy's "Every mythical Inaccuracy in GOW3" video.
My only real problem with God of war is that you spend waaaay to much time in pandora's temple its ridiculously long and it gets really repetitive that's about it for me. I also kinda agree with the 3rd(I think) guys camera issue I noticed that in that room with the atlas statue that as soon as I walked a couple feet the camera switched making my controls inverted so it was pretty annoying to try not to run in the wrong direction when the camera cuts are so fast I would have preferred if the camera just didnt instantly snap to another position but rather gradually changed its perspective to give me some kind of idea where I'm going
9:30 is also a complaint non GoW fans give the newer GoW games as well. Which is sad cause, these complaints occur because they expected an open world type of game but this is more of a narrative hack and slash type of game.
"This is clearly a Crash Bandicoot player." That one got me 😂
Time step
Cant wait for review of psa sitch review.
I like how your arguing with people from 2005 😂
27:14 he just wants to sleep... (and the music comes) this part is very sad man
Let’s argue: Zesty must bring back the let’s argues
Anytime I hear these critics say the game's too hard, I cringe. I always say Git Gud Scrub. Quit being a casual and just git gud. This is one of the reasons why I prefer the older God of War games to the newer ones. I ain't saying the newer games are bad. They just don't have what the originals had. That level of challenge.
16:35 guy is like
"(God of) War, HUH, yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!"
The Button mini games are My favorite Part in all of The god of war games
These people don't know what the hell they be talkin bout good video zesty
The amount of grind you have to do to have the amount of Holly Waters to spam is absolutely insane(considering theres a limit of the amount you can buy and the only game that let you re-pick the ones you already found in the eviroment is DMC1 that IS objectively the hardest one) If you have that many HW on you, you absolutely have the Rigth to spam because you probably played the game way more than us
But... IT being an option is enough for it to be a flaw. It should've never been a thing in DMC in the first case.
An item that destroys a whole encounter that you can simply access in the pause menu easily (meaning you're completely invincible while activating it) is way worse than what you're describing. There's a reason they took notes and removed it flat out from DMC5 (that added another broken item **faust**).
And btw, what grind? What's the use when you can simply BUY the thing?
@@ExtremeGameplays1 there's a limit on the amount you can buy, and the Price aways scales, i'm saying is, It takes way too long for you to hoard them, also theres way more broken Tech that you get for free in the series, you Just need to know How to, also saying its a flaw is like saying poseidon's rage is bad because It can clear some encounters for you
@@petwisk2012 You can carry over your progress in DMC across difficulties, and by the time you reach DMD, you're swimming in currency to buy those. And if you aren't, you can always do it the lazy way: Repeat a Mission and grind out those orbs, buy Holy Waters, then crush the rest of the mob fights this way. Easy. Not to mention that DMC items aren't limited to just Holy Waters.
>PR Lv 3
Has worse cost efficiency than Medusa's Gaze for a good amount of encounters, and is tied to a meter which you can only replenish via limited chests. Unlike in DMC, where you can repeat Missions ad nauseam and skip a bothersome encounter the lazy way. But if you've ran out of MP for the Centaur's Sacrifice in GoW1, now what? Or if you're doing a GoWII General Kratos run, where MP orbs can't even come close to refilling half your bar?

It's weird seeing reviews from around the time the game came out
Honestly, yeah.
all the people that say its just a button masher or that the combat is very shallow are all playing on Normal or Easy.

this video is gonna blow up.
God of war 1 had its mistake like the story taking a back seat in the Pandora temple and the platforming was annoying but other than that the game was absolutely awesome the graphics and story and gameplay all are great

Mainly because of vergil's last fight [I played it on normal difficulty]
Also i don't really understand some of the high standards the people set for GOW1
Also bro Dante's inferno is real fun
I do have to admit it is a rip off
but as tactical bacon said "it is a rip off done right"
What’s wrong with GOW 1?
@@lightmohamed5700 Nothing it's just people in this video set really high standards for GOW1
@@BLAZE..44. oh okay it aged well but not like the others
